The service, food & drinks were great! So glad we took a chance trying out this local restaurant. The appetizers were fresh and tasty- fried pickles, green beans and buffalo shrimp. The specialty drinks were delicious we tried the vodka and tequila house specials. For dinner we tried the tasty crab cake sandwich and even the fries were seasoned deliciously. My husband and I learned of this new Black owned restaurant and wanted to support. We were greeted by a lovely person and advised that there was a 2 hour dining limit. Our server was Andre S. He was warm and friendly as he asked for our drink orders. I ordered a mango margarita. I asked for a Tajin rim and was told that wasn't available. Understandable. I then requested a sugar rim or salt. Andre placed our drink order only to return to the table and explain that the bartender refused to add sugar to the rim. I was nearly speechless. To clarify, I asked Andre, are you saying that the bartender doesn't have the adequate supplies or inventory of sugar/salt is low or he is actually refusing to do the part of the margarita that is standard? Andre replied 'he said he doesn't do it...he has the supplies but if he does it for you, he'll have to do it for everyone.' Am I crazy or wouldn't that actually be the point? Isn't the goal to make drinks as a bartender for everyone who orders and pays for them? I explained to Andre that this is a horrible first impression and this shouldn't be a hill that the bartender kills the restaurant on. Andre explained that the bartender was experiencing many hills this day. I got the impression that the bartender is problematic to not only paying customers but to his coworkers. Then low and behold as I go to write about my experience, I see some other reviews complaining about their bartender experience. On to the food: We started with an appetizer of wings. They were perfectly fried and my favorite part of the meal. My husband had the blackened catfish and macaroni and cheese. You get 1 filet. He thought it was salty. I liked it. The macaroni and cheese was ok. Not truly southern home style. More like a step up from frozen that you spruce up a bit by adding some cheese on top. Popeyes actually does a better Mac and cheese for a southern home style flavor. I tried the slow cooked beef short ribs. It was flavorful but not as tender as I prefer. There is no complimentary bread for the table or salads on the menu. If you would like a veggie, there was an option of Brussels sprouts on the menu but not available today. Also, fried string beans. Neither of those were appealing options for me. I truly hope the owners find another option in a bartender. As they grow, I am hopeful that their menu expands. I have included a copy of my receipt showing that my server did make an attempt at my ordered margarita. It only served as a reminder of what was refused me. I doubt my husband and I will be returning any time soon. Too many other options with accommodating bartenders to give our money to. read more

This is a hip spot with good food and drink. Had a good time on a Saturday night with live music. All of the people that work there were very friendly. The buffalo shrimp were a nice size and fried well. The spinach and artichoke dip was decent. Wife had the salmon with mac n cheese. I had the blackened catfish with asparagus. I enjoyed the catfish but it didn't have that crisp on it like other blackened catfish I've had before. The asparagus were cooked perfectly. Ended the evening with the delicious sticky toffee cake. I went to Poppin. Corks during the 2023 holidays and I had the catfish, macaroni cheese, and the fried string beans and a tall glass of Moscato. my experience was not the same as others because I went with a group of 20. First of all no one told us that we needed to get our menu's online as we sat waiting for a menu. some of us ordered catfish and it tasted more like swai. it was definitely not catfish. When it was time to pay the bill we were told they were adding $4.50 per person service charge in addition to gratuities because we were a large group. Mind you the website says that an 18% gratuity would be automatically charged for large groups. When we refused to pay that because it was not on the website nor was it told to the person making the reservation. Finally when they brought out the bill they charged us 22% Instead of the 18%.. We were tired of complaining so we decided to pay. Though most of the food was good our group had a terrible experience and we will never return nor will be ever endorse or promote this place. read more

Bartender is rude and not accommodating! Mean and arrogant should be his first name!! Standard cocktail garnish such as a sugar or salt rim should not be denied because the bartender doesn't want to accommodate customers. My hubby and I decided to support this restaurant when we learned it was minority owned. Based on reviews, we were excited and our expectations were high. Sadly we were extremely disappointed. Ambience was blah. Our server was friendly; however everyone else on staff were unhelpful and seemed to be unbothered about doing their job. Service is everything regardless of how good the food may be, so additional training of the staff is needed. And speaking of the food, disappointing as well. We ordered the spinach dip and green beans for appetizers, both just ok, mediocre. I will say the spinach dip itself was tasty but it is served with toast points sprinkled with cheddar cheese which is strange and overkill with all the cheese already in the dip. It took forever for the entrees to be served. My entree fried catfish was greasy and the Mac n cheese side was stuck together instead of creamy and did not seem freshly made. My husband's entree, short ribs were served cold. The broccoli side was cold as well. We sent my husband's dishes back and asked for the check. Unfortunately what we thought may be a new neighborhood gem turned out to be a one time visit for us, never to be repeated. read more

The service was non existent. When we walked in there was no one at the kiosk so we could be seated because the waitress was too busy talking to a patron for a good 2 minutes. We asked if we could sit on the lower level but we couldn't because of they were short staffed which was understandable. After we were sat we waited a good 10 minutes while we literally watched the waitress talk to everyone else in her section and even ppl sitting at the bar. Then at one point she even got behind the bar like there wasn't already a bartender there that had ppl who were already served. The food itself was pretty decent I had the buffalo shrimp (which was literally fried shrimp and buffalo sauce, it's nothing special you can make this at home if you wanted to). It was also pretty evident the waitress was mostly catering to the patrons that she probably knew prior and we didn't get as much as an introduction or anything as she didn't stick around to give the experience that i guess is exclusive to returning patrons but i digress.
