This is a super cute, neighborhood market and deli tucked away in a residential pocket of Kirkland…read more It has a wonderful local community feel to it that makes it an incredibly inviting spot to drop by. The food here is always fantastic. They serve up really fresh, great quality dishes, and their desserts are amazing, especially their massive slices of cake. I have been here multiple times for lunch now, and every single time the food has been really good and consistently hits the spot and people I take always have great things to say about it The setup is charming and comfortable, featuring a nice indoor space as well as a great outdoor patio area that's perfect when the weather is nice. It has a lively, casual marketplace energy that makes it a great environment to sit down and enjoy a relaxed meal. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in the Kirkland area and looking for a high-quality food spot. It's easily one of my go-to recommendations!

Anytime I'm drinking vinho verde, the chances of a 5 star review go up, up, up. Thankfully, my Yelp…read morefriends didn't steer me wrong on this one. We started with the fresh garden salad with pepitas. greens, herby dressing and pickled carrots at Deru, then dove into two wood fired, blistered pizzas, the mushroom and the pepperoni. Add a bottle of vinho verde and who could complain? The ordering process was a little confusing at first, but the second visit should be easier. Pro tip: don't stand in the long line unless you're ordering to-go. Find a table, scan the QR code, and order. Fun atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, and genuinely good food. My main complaint? One bathroom. Rough. Deru Cafe has an extensive menu that covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with outstanding baked goods, pizza, and nightly dinners to go. The long line of cars outside speaks to its popularity. Last year about 1,500 loyal customers picked up Thanksgiving meals here, a testament to the quality of their offerings (and to convenience.) After eating here, I get it.

We arrived around 5pm on a weekday and was maybe the only other party in the restaurant. There's an…read moreunderground garage below the restaurant. There's a sign that says parking for Island Soul. We mistakenly went to the adjacent underground parking garage. You tell the waiter your license plate to validate parking. The chickpea curry was a bit bland. The tostones were good garlicky and crispy. The coconut cake could have been moister and less sweet.

I have always…read morewanted to dine at the Island Soul in Columbia City, but it was always crowded requiring some planning. We made a reservation the day before easily. The interior is superb. This place would be great for date-night or get a drink or have a family meal. Our server was attentive and helpful, making a change for us last minute with a 'I gotcha ya' attitude - LOVE! Thank you! The food is so, so good! The Seattle area doesn't have enough 'soul', southern, creole, 'island' type of foods. This place fills the perfect niche. I have the urge to say 'hmmm, hmmm' dining here! Yum! Parking is free under the building, and nearby street parking tends to be available, too. The Food: Blackened Salmon, $33 - 5 Stars Menu: Salmon, corn soubise, fried plantains, fried okra We both wanted this as our main dish, so this is a 2X. The salmon is perfectly seasoned and grilled. You can SEE the seasoning on the fish. So glad they included pieces of okra. The frying/searing gives it the perfect chew. Fried Green Tomatoes, $15 - 5 Stars Menu: Green tomatoes, panko, egg, onion, Buddha's belly seasoning This dish is known as their must order. I have no clue what Buddha's belly seasoning is, but I can tell you it is tasty. Fried green tomatoes is a perfect southern dish (and I will always think about the movie). Wings, Jerk seasoning, $18 - 5 Stars Like many, we're suckers for wings. Even better if the seasoning is different. Jerk wings is rightfully popular, here. The sauce is generously applied, and every bit is delicious. The flavorful foods will have me returning for sure!

I saw that Hearth was having a Valentine's Day 3 course meal! I made a reservation a few weeks in advance and they messaged me a couple of days beforehand to let me know the menu offerings which I thought were really nice and showed quality impeccable preparation! We truly enjoyed the wild mushroom tartlet, both entrees (lobster saffron risotto and the chicken roulade) followed by the desserts of chocolate crème de pan and the basque cheesecake! We also loved the wine pairings with all the courses! My favorite was one of the dessert wines. Our server was fantastic and the team is so friendly! The ambiance is dim lit but very pretty inside. It was a full house by the time we were eating! It's my second time at Hearth but bf's first and he really enjoyed it :) We'd love to stay at the Heathman one day too! We will be back!

I ordered a glass of wine off the menu, and their choices of wine by the glass were not good. We also tried a few appetizers; they were okay enough that we finished them, but there was absolutely nothing memorable or worth ordering a second time. The actual setup of the place is nice, it has a beautiful bar area and an outdoor seating space for nice weather. However, the vibe just wasn't incredibly welcoming. To make matters worse, the staff was very mediocre and not super friendly, which really dragged down the whole experience. I really wanted to have a better experience here given how perfect the location is, but based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it. With so many other welcoming spots within walking distance in Kirkland, you are better off looking elsewhere for good drinks and a friendly vibe.
