This place is legit - we tried the roti/beef rendang, nasi lemak with chicken, and mee goreng with a fried egg (definitely add that! The gooey yolk nom). Very impressed with the color that they got on those noodles, the flaky layers of the roti, the funk of the beef, and the generous helping of anchovies with that nasi lemak. Went here many years ago and remembering that it was just ok, but I decided to give it another shot since a Malaysian-born friend of mine said that it's one of the better laksa places in the area. Unfortunately, I was still disappointed even after all these years because the broth was pretty watered down and not creamier like I'm used to. It could have also used more spice or even sambal on the side for more flavor but that was not offered. The roti was nice and flaky but no sauce or small bowl of curry was offered, making it really expensive for just $5/pc of plain roti. Price was extremely high especially with tips included (despite having to bus your own table AND no free water provided!). The restaurant would greatly benefit from having a free water dispenser for patrons given the saltiness/heavy flavors of the food. My dining companions were not happy having to spend extra on drinks they did not want - bottled water was $1/each while sodas were $2-4 each. It's a decent option if you can't find Malaysian food anywhere else but I doubt we'll be back until the prices are more reasonable with complimentary water offered. read more

This spot is an unassuming gem; it is tucked away in a small strip mall and is casual and family-run. It offers traditional Malaysian dishes, such as laksa, nasi lemak, and rendang. The Set A ($25), which consisted of Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with egg and other sides) paired with Beef Rendang (spiced beef stew) and chicken, was wonderfully flavorful and beautifully presented. Our family has Malaysian roots, so I brought them here excited to have a taste of home. Food was overall pretty good and flavorful, though portions were a little small compared to the price. Hainanese chicken rice was not as plump as expected. Unfortunately, the major let down was the service. They did not serve water at all (not even tap), which just doesn't feel right for a place with mostly salty and spicy food. Buying bottled water was the only option. You had to order at the counter and tip ahead of time, however it turned out that there was essentially no service. The employees mostly stayed in the back of the store on their phones, and we had to bus our own tables. Most of all, I was sad that the staff did not want to engage with us at all in any sort of chit chat. Most Malaysians are happy to share a bit about their hometowns at the very least, but we were left feeling very ignored and not welcomed at all - which is the opposite of the name of the restaurant. All in all, if you just want pretty good Malaysian food then this is a quick in and out. But I would rather eat at home with my family. read more

We came here on a Friday night, but the place was quite empty. Even though they welcomed us warmly, the place is a self-serve place. My hubby got the Set B (Nasi lemak, roti canai, beef rendang), and I got the Biryani Ayam berempah, which is basically Malaysian Spiced Fried Chicken. The menu was written in a way that it took you a while to understand what is what.. and it was not very intuitive either. I strongly suggest changing it since it'll decrease their turnover rate.. The meal came after 10 minutes, and my husband's beef rendang was good. I didn't enjoy the rice, and the roti canai (Malaysian pancake) was not impressive either. It tastes like something I can make at home. They also didn't provide the curry sauce that usually comes with roti in Malaysian restaurants, which is depressing. The mixed greens on the plate have no dressing, which is odd as well. Our friend ordered the fried rice, and it was super bland. Overall, this place could have been more impressive to me. We were in the neighborhood and decided to check out this place. Parking was convenient and you could park in the front of restaurant or street parking. Kirkland library and PCC supermarket were nearby. We came in right after they opened in the evening and atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Staff were friendly and efficient. We ordered Coconut Pandan Latte, Kopi Tarik coffee, Nyonya Laksa Special (seafood + pork belly) and Combo set A at counter. The staff brought it to our table when it's ready. There's a table where customers could get utensils and plates. The dishes were delicious and we really enjoyed. Keep in mind that customers are to buss their own table. The parents are in the back cooking and their daughter is up front running the cashier. It feels more like a home cooked meal in someone's living room rather than an actual restaurant, so make sure to have the right expectations. In fact, this place is reminiscent of Kedai Makan before they sold their soul. When the owners heard my partner was from the same city they were from, they immediately offered him a secret item : Sarawak Laksa. My partner confirmed it was pretty authentic and almost similar to how his mom cooks it. I loved the Kaya brioche. I usually eat those for breakfast back home in Singapore, so being told it was a dessert made me laugh a little. The prata was great. Parking can be a little tight in the small lot just outside the restaurant, but if that's the only non-5-star element I can think of, so you know Renunion is going to be great! We've tried so many of the items on the menu, including the more difficult to find drinks and desserts. When you combine that with the family-owned vibe there, it's a really great experience. Nasi lemak chicken, good lord the chicken is cooked to perfection. Excellent flavor on the skin and through the meat. I wish I had the recipe, if you like Hainan chicken, this is next level. The paste with the rice and chicken is very flavorful, a must with every bite. You can buy the paste on its own, I believe there's anchovies in it, which I personally like. Not sure if I would get the laksa here again, a little bland in taste. I've made laksa at home from a packet it has more flavor so that's what I'm used to. If I were to review this place on the chicken and rice dish alone, it would be a 5/5. Restaurant has mom and pop family owned vibes. Having only tried Malaysian food once before, I'm not no expert and this food is good, in my, again, non-expert opinion. I tried the National plate. I finally managed to pay this place a visit after having bookmarked them for months! I'm pleased to report the food is decently authentic with the only variations making things inauthentic being limited to the specific types of ingredients used in certain dishes that were modified, probably due to availability issues in the US. For example, using rice vermicelli (aka dried mee siam noodles) instead of fresh laksa noodles, or using clams instead of blood cockles, etc. Despite this, the overall dishes still hit the spot, and the teh tarik was frothy and properly "pulled" as the name implies. I also appreciated the staff coming over to check on us, proactively bringing us a bigger spoon for the laksa, and even offering to take our photo. The laksa was good and it came with two types of noodles, the prices were what you expect from Kirkland. I wouldn't recommend the chicken and rice because what you don't see is it's on a rack of ribs and very boney it was a lot of work just to eat it. The food: Laksa: the broth was salty but somehow it lacks depth. The toppings were delicious and plenty. However, I didn't care for the spinach. Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang: lots of spice from the sambal, but Idk why the toppings on rice tastes bland minus the heat even with the dried fish. The rendang beef is soooo dry despite being in a stew. Kaya butter toast: the kaya jam is sweet but has no pandan fragrance even though it's green. The bread is an interesting choice. I only had this with white bread before. Service: I was surprised to see many disposable plates and utensils even for dining in customers. Coupled with the fact that the restaurant offers no tap water for drinking, I thought oh maybe they don't have a running water and/or dishwasher. But the laksa bowl was served in an actual bowl, so Idk. It just seems wasteful to use paper plates and bowls for everything. No one checked on us. It wasn't busy, but the owners were busy chatting with other customers. It would have been nice if someone asked if we needed anything. No drinking water is so strange. This place had me reminiscing HARD about the flavors and COST of Malaysian food. The docking of the one star is really around the price. All I have to say here is that money in America just can't get you the same amount of food as you would get in Asia... The amount paid for this meal would have been more than enough to provide a full on feast in Malaysia... Anyways, to the environment. I did enjoy their attempt at recreating a "hawker" style atmosphere. Although DEFINITELY much cleaner than any hawker stall I have been to in Malaysia, the seating situation and the utensil setup definitely reminded me of Malaysia. And the food. Although it definitely was not, quantity wise, as much as we would have gotten in Malaysia, the food was pretty decent. We got their Mee Goreng, Nyonya Seafood Laksa, and National Plate (basically Nasi Lemak with rendang, ayam and roti canai). We split this across four people, and I would say that it was a decent amount of food. I really enjoyed their Mee Goreng. It could have been spicier but as they are trying to cater to Westerners as well, I can understand why they did not make it more spicy. The ayam in the Nasi Lemak was also fairly good. The beef that they used for the rendang was slightly too chewy. Their Laksa portion was definitely a little small, but they did provide ample toppings to compensate. This meal was a good reminder of one of my favorite cuisines, and cheaper than the $1000+ cost for a plane ticket to Malaysia. read more

All of these dishes were so flavorful but a tad on the pricier side for the portion size! The roti and chicken was my favorite but I'm just addicted to roti! But seriously, they have flaky and butter roti here, it's a must get. Chicken was super soft and skin was crunchy. The noodles were good but there was a weird after taste I didn't love!
