Adorable place right near the boardwalk in Carolina Beach! It was after 1:00 when we got there so we're not too hungry and shared a half basket of fries (more than enough for two) and I had grilled cheese (3 cheeses) and bacon and Hubby had a single burger. Both very delicious. Only complaint was way too much ice in my cherry coke and we did not have enough room to have dessert. Also, not open for breakfast so no eggs on the menu. Told Hubby this is a 50's diner and not a Jersey Diner so no all day breakfast

We stopped in at Pops Diner and ordered a spread that really showed off their menu. The chicken wings--both BBQ and mild--were crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The cheeseburger was cooked well, juicy, and satisfying, paired perfectly with the sweet potato fries that had just the right crunch. Classic fries were golden and crispy, while the onion rings were thick, well-battered, and tasty. Service was another highlight: our server was friendly, polite, and attentive throughout the meal. The only drawback was the automatic 20% gratuity added for our party of five, which felt a bit unexpected. The atmosphere brought an old-time diner feel, with a nostalgic charm that made the experience memorable. Overall, Pops Diner delivered on food quality and service, with just one small caveat on the gratuity policy.

Where to start with this restaurant? First off, the location is in a great spot and the interior took me back to the early days of diners. I loved it. We were seated very quickly and Angela was very friendly and attentive to us. It was 4 of us, so we ended up sharing a few things just because everything sounded good and we couldn't make up our minds. We started with wings and they were good, just on the smaller side; if they were just bigger, it would be perfect. We also got the mac and cheese bites and they were a hit; not a single one survived. As for our main meal, we got a Philly cheesesteak, a chicken Philly cheesesteak, and a blackened chicken sandwich. Now the reason I put them all together is because they all tasted great, good flavor and everything, but their downfall was the bread; if they would have toasted the bread on them, it would be one of the best Philly in the area. And now for the Cuban sandwich, it was built right and the bread was toasted on a ciabatta bread that was just right, but they used their BBQ pulled pork for the pork, which is what it should be, but not with the BBQ flavor. Other than that, it would have been a great sandwich. Overall, the meal had potential, but a few tweaks could elevate it to the next level. I would definitely return to try more items from the menu, especially if they improve the bread situation. The atmosphere was lively, making it a perfect spot for a casual night out with friends. I left feeling satisfied but also curious about what else they might offer that could surprise me.

I was excited to hear about Pop Steiner. It's located on the main strip in Carolina Beach. It looked like an old school 50 diners from the outside. When you walk inside, they had nice comfy booths and there seem to be a lot of room. It's not what you think from the outside thinking that it's going to be tight. I brought my youngest with me at the time and we ordered some burgers, a milkshake and sweet tea. The food was average. It wasn't anything to write home about. I was kind of disappointed thinking that I found maybe one of the old school type diners that you would find up north. But it was suitable for where it was. It is at the beach frankly so I shouldn't expect anything more or less lol. It is decorated as if it's a 50s diner they didn't have the typical things you'd be used to like the music and all that good stuff the waitress was nice. The staff was nice. The people that were local eating. There were nice. My little one ironically, did not even like the milkshake which I found to be really ironic! But it could've been his mood more so than the taste! The burgers I don't know I've had better, but it was edible lol

My mom and I had a great time at Pop's Diner! Fun setting inside with great food and service. Angela was our server and she was delightful. I had their bang bang shrimp tacos and shrimp bisque; both were fantastic! Looking forward to returning here soon!

Pop's Diner was a highlight of my trip to Carolina Beach. The restaurant just has street parking and not a dedicated lot. I could walk from my nearby hoteI so that made it easier. When I saw there was a diner in Carolina Beach I needed I couldn't pass that up. Pop's Diner has a 50s decor. Service was friendly and I was given plenty of time to look through the large menu. I was planning to go with a burger but ended up with the flounder basket. I was expecting it to be similar to fish and chips but it was more like chicken tenders (but with flounder) The portion was very generous as I though I had one more piece and found three more at the bottom of the basket. A sauce was provided but I preferred the fish without the sauce. I had the sweet potato fries and corn on the cob too. The sweet potato fries were not a favorite but the corn was delicious. The hush puppies were also included. I did not have room for dessert so that will need to wait for another trip. :-)

I love diners and there vibes and this one was great for the vibes, was able to take a party of 10 without reservation pretty easily. I ordered the scrimp BLT with spicy mayo on the side and the spicy mayo had hair in it so I asked for a new one and she walked to the back and then came back out and handed me the same bowl with the same hair in it like I wouldn't notice. I lost my appetite after that so I couldn't even try the sandwich

Love this retro diner and its diner food. This is where you come for comfort food. It's like you're transported back in time or you feel like you're in an episode of Riverdale when you sit in the dining area. We tried the sweet potato fries, fry dip sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, chili, chicken and pastry, and corn chowder. Everything was overall good, but my favorites were the fry dip and chicken and pastry. The sweet potato fries were seasoned with cinnamon and sugar so it was like a dessert. They were fried just a little bit too long. Fry dip- you really can't beat the combination of french fries with shredded tender beef and cheese in a sandwich. And then top it off with a salty au jus. Heaven! The grilled cheese sandwich was big, on Texas toast, about 1.5 inches thick and 4.25 inches long. If I could change anything about it, it would be to add a little bit more cheese. But it was still filling and the buttered toast was delicious. The soups were served with oyster crackers. I could eat the chicken and pastry soup all day long. It hit the spot on the coldest day of the week. The chili was like any typical chili. The corn chowder was creamy and sweet from the corn. Our server was nice and checked on us throughout the meal. High chairs and kids menu are available. There is parking right in front of the restaurant. Parking rules are always changing, but currently for December 2023, it's free parking 5 PM and after.

First time eating at this restaurant and I was blown away by the amazing customer service and the quality of food. Very clean restaurant. Was greeted right away and seated. The waiter took my drink order and was quick with refills. I ordered the chicken tenders meal and my colleague ordered the flounder. The prices are great for the amount of food you get. There is a wide selection of food to choose from. Certainly there is something for everyone. Will definitely be back again! read more

I waitress recommended the chicken and waffles. The waffles were cold and tasteless and the chicken was little bits of tenders that were so breaded and over cooked I couldn't tell if there was any chicken in them or not. read more

No. Just... no. This is one of the places that my grandmother apparently frequents, and she wanted to take me because she said they have this delicious "Jamaican relish" that they put on their hot dogs. I was game, and I love a good hot dog, so off we went. The first thing that struck me when I walked into the restaurant was the smell. The entire place smelled...musty. Horribly, horribly musty. We were taken to a table in the side room on the left, and all I could think was that the flooring must not have been cleaned in FOREVER. That's what smelled! I mean, I know that you're by the ocean... dealing with the moisture and the salt in the air and whatnot... but that's no excuse. Gross. A waitress came over after a short bit and took our orders. She didn't really seem at all interested, or like she cared about being there... but whatever. My expectations for this place had plummeted from the smell of the carpet alone. She brought back our drinks (including my Diet Coke, which was filled to the brim with ice and making it so there was barely anything in there to drink) and took our order. Besides the hot dogs that my grandmother and I ordered, I ordered pickle chips. The pickle chips were pretty much the only saving grace for this place. After a while, she came back with our food. To be blunt, it didn't look appetizing at all. While my pickle chips were fine (at least they were fried decently - not burnt or too coated with oil or anything), everything else looked pretty unappetizing. My hot dog roll looked like it had been stuffed in a cabinet, or had stuff piled on it, before it was taken out of a package for use/to serve. My hot dog itself was burnt on the outside, but still fairly uncooked on the inside. The Jamaican relish was bland, and didn't really have any "Jamaican" flavor. Everything was just really off-putting. TL;DR I would never opt to come back here, and would only return if I visited my grandmother in Carolina Beach again and I couldn't talk her out of a visit. All in all? 2/10, but only because the pickle chips were cooked decently enough. read more

we went there last night and my family and I all agreed that it was really bad. dad got a sandwich, and he said it was gross. my brother got the chicken tender basket and said it was also pretty bad. i got just chicken tenders and they were too filling and kinda gross. i also got ice cream and the cone was really gross and stale. the waiter we had was very sweet and was working hard. the ambiance was creepy. i didn't really feel safe. read more

Do not order the chicken tenders and fries, I ate too much and it made my belly hurt. Liquid poop, mrs m got the burger and it was bland and burnt. Sweet tater fries came with cinnamon and sugar, that's wonky. Marilyn Monroe was starin me in my soul, that's also wonky. Never go here, place is bad. read more

I have heard a lot about this little place. Finally decided to try take-out: 2 flounder platters, 1 flounder Po-boy. 1 soup. $82.00! Wow...that sure seemed like a lot. Oh my gosh Pop's diner is such a lifesaver. My friends and I came here on a desperate search for food post-drinking and we were sooo happy we did. The restaurant is on the main strip in downtown Carolina Beach and it's open late most nights. There's plenty of seating so definitely okay to bring a group. The food is exactly what you'd think a late night diner would have - greasy burgers and fries. We ordered a bit of everything and it was all delicious. I ordered the veggie burger and it was surprisingly good despite it being from a diner. The staff were so sweet and friendly and SO patient with my drunk friends. I'd recommend this place for families, friends, whatever. Stop here late at night or after a long day at the beach! read more

Everything we got here was (extremely fattening) excellent! We had the fried mac and cheese bites. My husband got the philly cheese hero which he said was really good and I got the blt. For dessert I had he fried Oreo sundae. It was good, some people go nuts for the fried Oreos at fairs and I wanted to try them but now that I had them I wouldn't have them again. read more

This diner is an attempt to throw back to the 50s. The menu is plentiful and the desserts are very enticing. While I didn't try anything unique, I did have the hotdogs and tater tots. They were average and nothing particularly special. It's a good place to catch lunch if you aren't sure what you want. Nothing bad to say, nothing over the top. read more

Plan to get here early! The seats fill quickly. Luckily we were seated almost immediately. I felt like all the people in the town gravitated here rapidly once we entered the diner. I overstand why. The food is affordable while some items are overpriced. The menu has plenty of options for whatever you think you'd like. The waiter was swift and prompt with bringing our food. They're open late and is family friendly. read more

Greasy Not so great service Had to ask several times for plate and silverware to go with meals. Very expensive for what we got Sandwiches do not include sides of fries or tots or whatever, it's extra. Skip this place. read more

Want a fresh burger? They hand-pat their patties daily from their own fresh ground beef. The diner has a fifties-style decor with the appropriate music playing - Paul Anka while I write this review. Most meals are greasy, but fried correctly. I don't mean served looking greasy, just that fried mac-n-cheese and tater tots have to be dropped in a fryer, but they were dropped at the RIGHT temperature. Burgers are awesome. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I definitely love this restaurant when i come down to the beach we will stop here every now n then and YALL THE GRAPE KOOLAID THEY HAD THIS ONE DAY when i tell you it was BOMB i wouldn't lie to you!! We were anxious to try Pop's because of the unique desserts. Too bad we went after a big meal. We should've gone on an empty stomach. One ordered the homemade apple pie which came with a generous portion of soft serve vanilla ice cream. The entire plat3 was cleaned! Another ordered the deep fried Twinkie with a side of caramel sauce and soft serve vanilla as well. Delicious, but too much on a full stomach. Our server was outstanding! read more

I want to start this review by saying we've ate at this place multiple times usually takeout but today we decided to eat in the restaurant. The restaurant was empty besides 1 other table when we got there. It was me my partner and our three children. We ordered a seafood combo basket, an appetizer of flounder fingers, two corn dog kids meals, and two hotdogs. I totally missed on the menu that they would add a 20% gratuity if it was five people or more to be honest, I would've paid more gratuity if they wouldn't have added themselves. I just want to say I am terribly disappointed because all the sauces were sour the ketchup sour, cocktail sauce was sour, ranch was sour. The onion rings were so hard they were not edible the hotdogs were shriveled up to where my son could not eat them. The corn dogs were the same ones I buy at the grocery store and make it home so they enjoyed those. I counted up the price of everything with the waitress and got to about 65 and that was rounding up so when they added gratuity I ended up paying 97 and change which is far greater than 20% gratuity. So dissatisfied and disappointed! This will definitely be our last meal there. read more

This was the first place my sister and I ate at during our vacation in Carolina Beach, NC. The food was delicious and the service was quick! The whole atmosphere of the diner is adorable & clean. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, and we felt very welcome. The corn and potato salad is to die for- so tasty!! My sister ordered a burger, I had a BLT, and we both got the fried corn. I came here once and absolutely loved their foot long hot dog. In fact, I loved it so much I came back my next visit to the beach. When I opened my to go box I was very disappointed. Not only was the hot dog undercooked, but was not what I asked for. I wanted mustard and ketchup but somehow they misheard and but MAYO and ketchup on my hotdog. Why would anyone eat a hot dog with Mayo on it. Even if you weren't sure what the customer said, wouldn't you go with something that sounded like something common? It was the the worst hot dog I've ever had. 2/10 just because I liked it the first time read more

So if you want to eat here on a weekend, or the weather is nice, proceed with caution and be prepared to wait (standing outside--there is no seating while you wait).

We came here last year, and the service was so slow, but we decided to give it another chance this year. Not only was the service ridiculously slow again this time around (it took over 30 minutes to bring out our food), but two of the burgers given to us were still fairly pink inside. When we brought it to our server's attention, she said that it was the standard to cook their burgers medium well. I don't know why that would be the standard, but if that's the truth, they aren't consistent with their "standard" style of cooking, because the other two people in our party who had ordered burgers, received burgers that were cooked well done. They did take our burgers back and provided us with burgers that were cooked more thoroughly, but I still was very unsatisfied with my burger. The beef seemed low quality, and the toppings were scarce. I love a good burger, and that's what everyone in my family expected when we came to Pop's Diner, but we were all sorely disappointed. The only praise I can give is for their fries - their fries were pretty delicious, but that definitely doesn't compensate for the slow service and low quality food. read more

During my most recent visit, I ordered takeout and was pleased with the prompt dispatch of my order. Unfortunately, my excitement quickly turned into disappointment when I discovered mold on the burger bread while consuming it. At first, I tried to dismiss it as sauce or some other condiment but upon closer inspection, it was evident that it was indeed mold. Needless to say, this was quite unpleasant and left me feeling disgusted. I have enjoyed the quality and taste of the food from this establishment before. Was even excited for my family members to try it for the first time after recommending it. None of the other burgers ordered by my family members had any such visible issue (thankfully). However, this incident has shaken our confidence in the overall quality control and cleanliness standards at this establishment. It is crucial for any restaurant to prioritize food safety and maintain high standards of hygiene so their consumers can feel safe eating their food. The kids and I love riverdale and even though this isn't the real pops chock lit diner we were still excited to go to this 1950s nostalgic place. I thought fries were a little too salty and tea was OK, but overall a really good experience for a very affordable price!
