We've enjoyed their fish fry and went tonight (Wed.) for the meatloaf. They make their own and it was excellent. For some reason, I enjoy meatloaf and most restaurants buy theirs for cooking. Pop's makes their own, I was told, and it the taste was and consistency is proof that's the case. As usual we go early to avoid the crowds. We came with a group of 10 on a Saturday night. We were told 60-90 minutes but then the owner thought we could fit in a booth which we took. It was very snug in the booth but we made it work. They brought us out relish trays. Our server was amazing. He was constantly checking on us since it was a birthday celebration. I ordered a 6 oz filet with twice baked potato. It came with soup AND salad. My steak was perfect. My husband had a 16 oz ribeye and said it was very good. Since it was my friend's birthday they brought us out a cupcake with a sparkler for her. WE WERE TREATED AMAZING THE ENTIRE NIGHT. Our bill came to $168 for our 2 steaks and 4 drinks. My ONLY negative thing about this place is they don't reservations. Love the ambiance and over all vibe. The staff is warm and friendly. Everyone makes you feel welcome and that your business is truly appreciated. We went 2 nights in a row. Love the relish tray, harkens back to my childhood. Drinks are well made with quality liquor. Nive variety of wine. Friday night we went for the fish fry. Pop's hit the nail on the head with this one. Batter wasn't heavy but came with a good crisp. Fish was cooked perfectly and the tartar sauce was spot on. Went with the house salad which was very good. Returned on Saturday for the prime rib. Again, a great vibe with a welcoming staff. The prime rib was good not great. While cooked to the preferred temperature, it was a little dry. Some work is needed on the horseradish as it lacked any oomph. We will be coming back to try some regular menu items. If the prime rib was as good as the fish fry, I would have run out of stars. read more

We've passed by this restaurant a few times and looked interesting and decided we wanted to make the trek out and try it. What we found most interesting is that it was packed the moment it opened. So naturally, we had to try it. My wife was the one who really wanted to go, despite it not having many options for her, but we went anyway and had another couple join us. First you enter the lot and there seems to be plenty of parking...that is, until you start driving around the building looking for parking. It's all perimeter parking. Not a parking lot. I parked in the last spot with a traffic cone next to it. It had lines on both sides designating it as a parking spot. Anyway, after entering the restaurant and getting comfortable, an announcement with my license plate is asked to move their car as it is in a spot that's not a spot, but a pass through from the adjacent lot. What? I go out to move my car (G-d knows where) and see a car facing mine with his brights on (I'm not in the car) and honking incessantly (what a jerk!) I get in and find someone on the opposite side of the building backing out. I race and grab it. The other guy was behind me and was mad he didn't get the spot. Who cares. Screw him. I go back in and mention that they need to let people know that the lot is full as that was the last spot. And I mentioned that the jerk who was honking at me to move now parked in the same place I was and that they should tell him to move his car, too. I sit down and instead of your normal bread basket, there's a sectioned out tray with dips for the crunchy breadsticks. There were not enough sticks for the dips. It seems the restaurant didn't want you to really enjoy the dips as they rationed the sticks. Weird. Anyway, I order the broasted chicken for dinner. It came with soup, I opted for the cream of chicken. Again, not a sommelier of cream of chicken soup, but I know a good one from a not so good one. This was the latter.. Just meh. It was pretty thin and watery. I also upgraded my salad to a wedge and replaced the blue cheese and blue cheese dressing (ick!) with ranch and got rid of the tomatoes. I was left with the wedge, bacon, and ranch. That was perfect. It was good too. Lastly, I ordered the chicken. It was a little underwhelming. A little on the soft side (not that crispy), but juicy chicken nonetheless. She got the French onion soup, which she said was not very good and just a big ball of melted cheese in some broth, and the BBQ salmon, which she said was easily past its due date and the BBQ sauce was off. We all tried the sauce and it seems the chef doesn't know what bbq sauce is not how it's made. It was gross. Our server took it off the bill and brought her the appetizer crab cake. It was just one cake, BUT it was the size of the saucer it came on and easily 4 inches thick. The server brought it as we were finishing our meals. It was not pushed as a priority to get back out to our table (a kink they need to work out). She took most of it home. It was huge! Our friends got the "underwhelming" walleye fried fish fry special and the other got a salad. I don't remember which, but she thought it was meh. I think I was a bit disillusioned with the place after having to deal with the parking situation. It all slowly tumbled downhill from there. Where do I start?!? We had such a great experience at Pops! From the service to the meal to the ambiance -- amazing! The one consistent thing we heard from others that recommended Pops was the wait time because they do not take reservations but our wait time went from 30 minutes to 5 minutes which was a plus even though, after just walking in and seeing the vibe, we had no issue waiting.. we were greeted with a relish tray, had the shrimp cocktail and crab cakes - delish! I had the fish fry which was FANTASTIC! My husband had the ribeye which he could stop raving about! Menu was extensive with a large selection in every category; appetizers, entrees (meat, fowl, fish), desserts. Bar was gorgeous with a wide range of specialty drinks. Soft music was piped in and live entertainment on the exterior patio (this night there was a Billy Joel cover singer was doing a great performance). This restaurant is what I have been hoping for in Antioch, Illinois for 15 years and they did not disappoint! The owner, Chris Khayat was gracious, attentive, and enjoyable to speak to. The veggies were ok the salad had no flavor the dressing was lacking flavor and it was mostly iceberg and the cheese on top was a lot and just off. The saganaki was good but seemed kind of greasy. We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, and they were absolutely delicious. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, they set the tone for what turned out to be an outstanding meal. For my entrée, I chose Pop's Favorite Roasted Leg of Lamb, and it was spectacular. Tender, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection, it was easily one of the best lamb dishes I've had. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert. We tried both the cherry pie and the strawberry cake, and both were unforgettable. The cherry pie was incredible, but it was the buttery crumble topping that completely won me over. I'm officially addicted. The strawberry cake was simply out of this world, light, decadent, and the perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. Everything about our experience was exceptional. I'd like to give it a 3.5/4 star rating. We arrived on a Friday night, they don't take reservations so we waited over an hour for a table. Parking is also a little challenging on busy nights. They have a tented outdoor space with a heater that was set at 66 but didn't seem to be heating much of the space. Once inside had a seat at the bar for a second round of drinks. When we were finally seated we were sat in the back room that seats 3 tables. This room doesn't seem to have been remodeled like the rest of the restaurant and also has the grill and a view into the kitchen. The fryer is by the doorway so you smell the fryer and grill in this room. There is also a door to the outside that staff used to bring out the garbage etc. but when it's cold like this the room cools down very quickly. The corner of the room is used by the servers to roll silverware, fill salt and pepper shakers etc. Our server Stephanie was nice and attentive. We ordered the saganaki appetizer. There were 4 of us. We each were able to eat 2 naan pieces each and it was an $18 appetizer. I ordered the filet medium rare with blue cheese crust. My filet came a little dry, no blue cheese crust and borderline well done. The salad was a house salad with feta and strawberries and vinaigrette, it was very good. It comes with soup and salad and potato. My husband ordered the smash burger and said it was good. One of our other guests ordered the 18 ounce ribeye and it did not look like it was 18 ounces but he said it was cooked ok and tasted fine. Overall I would go back on a night during the week when it's hopefully not as crazy busy. I do think they should invest in some sort of reservation system. I think that would cut back on all of the people who were complaining about a wait even though you could clearly see they were slammed. I also gotta hand it to the staff. So happy we decided to stop in early for dinner. Staff was great, friendly and on top of everything. Our server Izzy B was fantastic! Our meal was awesome we had: Cheese Curds (so tasty) Ribs - fell off the bone 8oz sirloin with Parmesan crust and mushrooms - so well made and the mushrooms in particular were delicious. Coconut cream pie Chicken wild rice soup was great and the side salad was perfectly portioned. The crudité plate with breadsticks I loved and appreciate that it's complementary. We've tried a lot of restaurants up here and our biggest frustration when eating out is when the food or service doesn't match up with the cost or effort to get out. Oct. 31st. We arrived at 06:15ish and were seating immediately in a booth. We may have been lucky. Service was excellent. We enjoyed the Old fashions for two, made at the table. The relish tray needs some work. The Curds were terrific. We had the Friday Walleye (2), Beef tenderloin over pasta, and the Pork Schnitzel. The Walleye was terrific but could have used a lemon wedge. I would have chosen a wider noodle for the beef tenderloin. The Schnitzel was good. Desert was Beignets and the Apple Pie Skillet. Both were delicious. Next time the Door County Cherry Pie and a Grass Hopper. We got our food promptly. The Wine selection needs some work. Overall 4.5 stars. My friends suggested we try a new supper club. So last night my friends ,my wife, and I ( four of us) decided we would try Pop's Uptown Pub&Grill. We were told when we called that we couldn't make reservations so we decided to go up there and the hostess said there was a half hour wait.From the outside this place looks appealing and on the inside it has kind of a Old Vegas vibe.It took us about 45 minutes to get seated if you can call it that ! They walked us through to the back of the restaurant into a section that looks like it was an afterthought and had none of the charm of the restaurant that we just walked through . Kind of like we were in a movie sitting in a 1950's southern restaurant in the blacks only section because we weren't good enough to sit in the restaurant to eat. To describe the ambience there's a row of plastic fake bushes separating you from the actual grill, the cooks are cooking on and the dining area. Beside me was a table full of napkins where the waiting staff wrapped the silverware, there was articles of staff clothing sitting on the table and chair next to me. From this point on the meal did not go well. It could've been the mindset of where I was sitting and the fact that it shattered my expectations a fine dining experience. If you're worthy enough to sit in the actual restaurant, I'm sure it would be an absolutely wonderful experience. The owner actually came over and acknowledged how poor the seating area was by joking about the dining in the kitchen (this was definitely not the Kitchen Table at Charlie Trotter's )and offered us free wine, unfortunately I don't drink and neither does my friend, My wife ended up getting a cheap glass of white wine which she said was bitter, so to sweeten the pot, the owner offered us an appetizer 'shrimp cocktail'. This little cup comes out with a spoonful of ice and four shrimp the size of my pinky. This was a Saturday and they have a prime rib special, unfortunately they had run out of the prime rib so ...I settled for a fillet, medium rare and a baked potato. The steak was medium, and the potato was raw.. My wife had a pork chop, which was quite large but she said it had a funny taste to it and she kept trying to see if it was cooked correctly.She ended up taking it home and today when she went to go reheat it she realized that it was bad and decided that it would be safer not to consume it. I ended up telling the waitress that my steak wasn't cooked correctly but I would just take it home and let my dogs eat it. A manager (not the owner) came over and insisted that he makes me a new stake and it would only take five minutes. 20 minutes later a steak did come back to me cooked correctly but was over seasoned with salt and had a taste of tenderizer to it . Our friends ended up going with a chicken dish and an Italian sausage dish because there was no prime rib. They both enjoyed their meals, but I think they were saying that because I was having such a bad experience. this dining experience cost me over $300. I did pay for my friends meals. I felt bad because they could tell I was having a really bad time. my wife and I will never step foot in this place again. i'm giving it two stars because my friends said they enjoyed their meal. read more

This was our second visit in. The first time was the first week they opened. I never judge a new restaurant during the first month. Last night we sat at the bar and and ordered a late dinner. My wife ordered the shrimp scampi, the shrimp were over cooked and rubbery, and the garlic in the dish was almost raw, so in turn quite bitter. $28 for 6 shrimp and spaghetti noodles. I ordered the tenderloin tips, there were 6 small pieces of meat, and a lot of sauce with a few potatoes, $29. I did mention to the bar tender about my wife's dish, her comment was "I will let the chef know". I was not looking for something free, just an acknowledgement from a manager. The most shocking thing was $17 for a scotch on the rocks, not single malt, not high end, Dewars. We get it, the world we live in is more expensive, that being said, this place at this point does not justify the cost. read more

Parking is a challenge as the lot fills fast. Food was good to excellent, but the whole meal was rushed as it is clear that volume is the name of the game there. The whole vibe is a little off: loud, tables are very close together, big screen t.v.'s a "casino" all this going on inside an interior set up to be a supper club. It's a miss on that front.
