For a lakeside bar, I guess it's okay. It isn't horrible, but it also isn't going to blow you out of the water. We went during trivia, and before you continue to read, the trivia was FANTASTIC! The dining area is slightly dingy, with sticky tables and run-down seating. The dive-bar aesthetic is cool, but don't expect cleanliness. The bathroom had all types of broken things, but again, it's what you sign up for. Service is always awesome (expected at a place like this). People are super nice, and even helpful during trivia! As far as the food goes, we ordered pizza. It is your typical bar pie, with nothing pushing it to the "above-average" mark. If you are expected fine-dining, this is not your place to go. If you are expecting a lakeside bar, friendly people, and a crisp, cold beer, then Portside Pizza is the place for you. read more

Port Side Pizza is a must try if you like finding quaint-out of the way places to try. This place is tucked away in Whitley County near Tri Lakes. It's an old house converted to a bar-restaurant. It's not easy to find so use your GPS. Upon getting here you may have to park in the grass parking out on the side. There isn't much gravel parking. Finding the entrance is a bit confusing as well. Once you get in you can pick sitting in the dinning room, bar or outside. The dinning room decor is very basic but comfortable and welcoming. The bar is a classic no-frills area with lots of TV's and Pull tab machine, small juke box and cigarette machine. The outdoor area is very basic but also welcoming and good for a large group. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming to a non-regular. We started with the Bosco sticks. The bread was glazed with a butter-garlic sauce. The bread was baked a bit firm but still had a soft inside with a slight crunch in the outside. The inside had a lovely mozzarella cheese presence. I love it when you break the stick and pull the cheese for a good 6" before it snaps apart. This came with a small cup of creamy yellow cheese with didn't really add much to the taste. I had a half garden salad and my wife had the full Chicken Bacon Ranch salad. The lettuce is chopped ice berg. It contains a small amount of side vegetables. While there weren't a lot of them...the quantity was appropriate. The salad was pretty good - better than you'd expect from a bar. I had the White Rock roll based on the waitresses suggestion. The roll is very large. The bread was a bit tough when hot. The white sauce was very tasty and creamy. It was not an Alfredo type sauce but more of a plain white sauce. The small pieces of chicken and vegetables almost gave the dish a pot pie type taste. I found this item to be very tasty. Next time we come it will definitely be for pizza. The deep dish pizza looked fabulous. They other pizzas definitely said come back and try me. Go find this place and give them a try! read more

I scored a take out pizza and wings from Port Side. The pizza, with lots of meat, was excellent. One of us did and one of us did not not want olives on the pizza so they solved the problem and gave me olives on the side. If I was rating Port Side just on this, they would get a 5. However, the wings were not as good as the pizza. The staff was very friendly and helpful, parking is a snap. If you are getting take-out use the front (marked) door. read more

Tried the titanic deep dish. It's an excellent example of Chicago deep dish style instead of Detroit deep dish style. The crust reminded me of oleys. Removed the olives and green peppers. Absolutely worst place I've ever been, entire restaurant smells like mildew mold inside, bathroom smelled so bad I couldn't even use it, food was garbage, salad was warm, so was the ranch, ordered fettuccine Alfredo, absolutely the cheapest version of a store-bought microwave meal ive tasted, and was cold on the bottom. This place is a hole in the wall place off Tri-Lakes, Shriner Lake. I'd categorize it as a dive bar, that serves some awesome pizza. We started with the "Crazy Dough" and it was greasy, garlicky goodness. My only complaint is that they should have offered a dipping sauce like marinara or something. I tried to find our waitress to request it, but she was no where to be found before we had ate it all. For dinner, we ordered two medium pizzas for the four of us. We got the Portside Pizza (similar to a supreme) and a White Rock (similar to a chicken supreme, with creamy white sauce). All of the pizzas come with thin crust, which I appreciated because the crust doesn't overtake the toppings. Very generous portion of toppings & not too greasy, considering the amount they give. Also, if you are looking for some late night fun at the lake, karaoke was going on & there is also a dance floor, shuffleboard & pool tables. Quite a fun dive bar! read more

We grew up in this area, but live out of state now. While visiting family, we decided to go out for lunch and try this place. When we arrived, we weren't sure where to enter...The bar entrance was marked for 21 and up, but the other front door had no sign on it at all. We decided to walk around back since there appeared to be parking behind the building too, but there was no sign on the back door. An employee carrying things inside asked if we were looking for the family dining area, and told us we could go in the back door. We seated ourselves and went looking for menus, as there were none on the tables. There was a paper lunch menu at one counter and my SIL found a comprehensive menu at another counter when she went looking for a high chair. There are plenty of good options on both menus, and everything sounded appealing. The one high chair in the place, however, was in terrible shape--sticky, of course--as most restaurant high chairs are, but literally falling apart at every joint, and the buckle was broken. It is nearly impossible to keep an 18-month old seated in a high chair without a buckle, which increased my worry combined with the danger of the broken chair. We ordered a medium cheese pizza, a small bbq chicken pizza, side salads, and a small specialty pizza. SIL ordered a stromboli sandwich w/ chips. Several other customers came, even though it was afternoon, and our food arrived in a timely fashion. The cleanliness of the seating area could be improved, but definitely wasn't the worst of any place we've been. When our food came, the cheese pizza was a little overcooked and the cheese was dark brown, but we were offered another if it wasn't to our liking. The kids were fine with trying it and thought it was very good anyway...not a problem at all. Hubby said the bbq chicken pizza was good, and my specialty pizza was yummy as well--tasted a lot like Pit Stop's sausage roll (patterned after the old Papa Roll from Papa's Place in the 1990's). SIL said her stromboli was great too. We were pretty pleased with the food. We were definitely pleased with the prices. SIL's sandwich lunch was $5 including chips and a drink. And our medium pizza, 2 small pizzas, 2 side salads, and 5 sodas was barely over $20! We can't eat at McDonald's for that price! We would come back again. :) read more

I'm in the process of relocating to the Ft Wayne area from the Chicago Suburbs and am staying with a friend in Columbia City until I find a home. I have to say that even though this isn't Chicago Pizza it is very tasty and the staff have been very friendly. On most nights I have sat at the bar and they were more than accommodating in changing the channels so that I could watch the Chicago Black Hawks Playoff games. The beers and food are inexpensive compared to Chicago land area and would recommend this neighborhood bar/pizza place. Décor is old school dive bar but that is part of the charm. They also have an outdoor seating area but you will have to tolerate the smokers as that is where they hangout. All in all this is keeper of a place to relax and hang out. read more

Really a 2.5, but I will round up as that is probably the fair thing to do. This place services the tri-lakes area, so if you a visiting one of the lakes and need a pizza fast, this is probably the go-to place. Just don't expect a really good pizza. We've ordered from here a few times, and the results are usually the same: - Overly browned cheese makes the pizza look overdone. - A firm crust that is slightly gooey where the sauce meets the crust (underdone.) - A flavorless crust and a sauce that tastes like bland tomato paste. If I was at the lakes I'd be torn between popping in a cardboard-like frozen pizza or ordering one from here...the results are about the same. read more

Portside is our go to for pizza with the kids! In the summer months we like to sit on the patio out back and let the kids play in the fenced in area behind Portside. We recently bought a weekend property on Shriner Lake, which is near Portside Pizza. We are able to walk to the restaurant, which is great, because the food is so good, we usually stuff ourselves silly so we can walk some of it off when we're done. This place definitely caters more to locals. It's not the kind of place one would travel a far distance to go to, but they do serve great food to those who are lucky enough to know about it. Their specialty pizzas are incredible and they certainly do not skimp on the ingredients. They also usually have a couple good imported beers to go along with your tasty meal as well. Although the place isn't super clean, it has its' own ambiance and character. We have never walked away disappointed! read more
