Before, I would order online, receive an accurate time when it would be done, walk over and it would be ready. I would tip generously even tho there was no table service and all someone would do was hand me a bag. The greeters were super nice, and brought the food out to me while I waited outside with my dog. Then I would walk home and enjoy the best food in Asbury Park. But now you are making it harder for locals to order your food. I guess it's busy enough that you don't need to provide the call-ahead service, but I can't say I'm not annoyed. read more

The bottom of their receipts say "Eat. Drink. Be honest" so here is an honest review. The rating would be higher but there was what we felt was fairly bad service. We sat down at 2pm. Ordered pizzas to share, then server came back and let us know they were actually out of one of them. Ok, no big deal. But the pizzas came out and server did not come back to check on us (we wanted additional water and to order another side/inquire about dessert). Until, that is, approximately 2:26pm -- not even a half hour after we had sat down -- to lay down the bill. I've never had a bill set down that fast, we weren't even half done with the pizza. Would have been nice to ask us if we wanted to order anything else, but the meal was basically over anyway, so we just got out of there. While visiting Asbury Park on a Saturday, my girlfriend and I were in the mood for some pizza, so we decided to stop at Porta. We have been to the Jersey City location before, but never this one, so we were familiar with the food. We loved both the outdoor decor of this restaurant as well as the indoor decor atmosphere. This place has an awesome setup. The staff were very friendly and always checked up on us throughout our dinning. I really like that. We ordered a salad and pasta lunch combo to start. We had the three trees pasta with bootzin (orecchiette). The salad was so good and the pasta dish was even better. Everything was so fresh tasting. I especially liked the spice level used in the pasta, as anything a bit spicy is my favorite. Loved the sausage inside here too. This was great meal choice. We then went ahead and ordered 2 pizzas. One Margherita and One Meatball. Both of these pizzas were excellent. We both really enjoy some brick oven pizza, and these definitely hit the spot. The meatball topping they make is so good. And they put a very good amount of it on the pizza too, which was awesome. The Margherita pie was a perfect classic choice to get as well. Again, everything was so fresh and tasty. We had some extra pizza, so we took it home to eat later in the evening, and it was just as good. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had went there to escape the toll my job was putting on me (I brew and distribute coffee) and needed a break. I walked up to the bar, ready to deal with some ditzy bartender trying to make me drink some new, funky IPA but instead met a rather handsome gent (J name, not exactly sure what it was.) We got to talking, and after telling him about my career, he offered to make me an espresso martini. The second the first sip touched my lips, it was like i was transported. None of them wear masks and have an annoying habit of leaning over your shoulder while talking or serving food. They barely look at you, don't smile, take your order as if doing your a favor and then vanish. Many reviews are complaining about their service, and we experienced it to full extend. Ehh not a huge fan of this place. My review is very negative. Half a vent session on how annoyoing the staff is here. It's comical how entitled some of the bartenders, waiters/waitresses are. Positives: Food is delicious and the place is decorated very nicely! Negatives: The staff is atrocious hahaha it honestly amazes me how some of these (mainly girls) staff members have such horrible attitudes. I get it, you're working in a town that gets lots of visitors of all types and it gets exhausting... but you chose this job! GET OVER IT! The high number of rude a$% employees, ruins it for the others that are constantly busting their buts for their customers. There are some employees who are amazing and deserve a huge pay increase. Even most of the young bus people work hard to clear, clean. and set up the tables. Tip them if your waiter/waitress/bartender is a poo head! The owners need to be way more involved and hold their employees accountable, rather than not caring because they are making money regardless. I would be embarrassed if I owned this restaurant. Proud of the cooks and the interior designer, but ashamed of how entitled, bratty, and rude their staff members are. I've worked harder, more intense food service jobs and non of my co-workers would ever act this way. Called self-respect. This Restaurant and Nigh Club has also had a long lasting reputation of hiring shady people. Especially the night staff. There was a time where girls were getting their drinks spiked by bartenders who were paid off to do so. I even had my drink spiked here 5 years ago when I was 21. We had my son's rehearsal dinner here and it was a great experience. The event planner, Chandler, was an absolute pleasure to work with. We had the Monk Room. My friends and I all ordered margherita pies. They were good, pretty basic and standard to me. I think next time I'll pick something more original to the menu. I love the trendy, aesthetic atmosphere. It definitely keeps the crowds coming -- we did have to wait, but I think it was worth it. I'm looking forward to trying more on the menu. We were visiting Asbury Park for the day and needed a dinner spot with vegan/non-vegan options. I was intrigued by their vegan pies and kombucha offerings. We waited a while for a outdoor table. I had the Snawzeech vegan pie. It had San Marzano tomatoes, garlic, cashew ricotta, broccoli rabe, vegan sausage, crushed red pepper, and olive oil. We loved the cashew ricotta! But the pizza needed more flavor and more ricotta. We also had the Rita and Mark vegan pie. It had San Marzano tomatoes, vegan mozzarella, vegan parm, garlic, dried oregano, basil, and olive oil. I really didn't care for this pizza... had no flavor and the vegan cheese was pretty bad. Porta, please start using a higher quality vegan cheese and make your pies more flavorful. As it goes for the quality of the food, It was amazing! And the server we had was an absolute delight. She was very sweet and knew what she was doing. I tried to order linguini with vodka sauce, and I couldn't. The only thing with vodka sauce I could get is the Monday Gnoochi- Which is a good dish but not what I wanted. So I sucked it up and tried to ask for linguini and butter, but couldn't get that either! So I went with a bland, spaghetti with butter.. Another thing to keep in mind before coming is the high wait times, especially on a rainy day. Last Saturday (7/14), a group of 8 were celebrating a birthday when a server dropped an entire dish of hot oil over 2 people while placing it on the table. We understood it was an accident, but we were told someone would come over to the table. No one ever came until someone from the group went to find a manager. When the "manager" came over there was no concern about what had happened. It is well known that oil stains are not going to come out. The response was "what do you want us to do?" All they offered to do was pay for dry cleaning. There was no regard for if anyone was burned by the oil or if clothing was ruined. Another manager approached the table and proceeded to have an attitude when we asked for additional accommodation, such a discount off the bill, since the night was ruined and the 2 individuals couldn't go out with their clothes soiled. We proceeded to get aggravated and the managers responded with their own elevated attitude and told us that we needed to pay for everything or they would call the police. We told them to do that and 4 police officers came. While the police were supportive when they saw the clothes, they said it's up to the restaurant as to what they want to do. This was an embarrassing situation for a group of 8 professionals out for dinner (with very little alcohol drank). We simply wanted the management to treat us with respect and appropriate customer service. This was absolutely not the case and none of us will ever return to Porta in the future. We have frequented this restaurant in the past including previous private parties. This team of "management" provided the worst customer service any of us have experienced and should absolutely not be representing your brand and restaurant. read more

Porta ia a good restaurant with fair prices in Asbury Park. Now that they take reservations, it is much more pleasant to go for dinner. I recently hosted a family lunch there and everyone enjoyed the food. My only complaint is their current charge for $4.00 for 4 very small slices of plain Italian bread with oil or butter. I had the Aunt Gail appetizer which was jersey tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, strawberries, and ricotta. The ingredients were fresh, and it was good. For dinner I had the Summer Betty Pizza. I thought the flavor was really good, but the pizza dough was too soggy. I had to hold it with two hands or the pizza would fall apart. I was a fan of the flavor just not the pizza dough. For dessert I had the ice cream sandwich. It was drool worthy looking at it, but unfortunately it wasn't good! The chocolate cookies tasted like gluten free chocolate. There was no chocolate taste, but the cookies were nice and soft. It was filled with chocolate peanut butter gelato which was just ok. I ate at Porta on a crowded Saturday -- the wait for walk-in customers at dinner on weekends is at least an hour but luckily we got bar seats!! Came here to check out what many consider the best pizza in the area. In fact Porta claims to be on the list of best in the country by state. So the pizza is very good - fresh ingredients - charred crust - just not as crispy as I like it but nothing to complain about. Indoor and outdoor seating on community tables. Our bartender was super friendly and attentive. Maybe I was just starving but everything in the menu looked DELICIOUS!! We ordered a pizza and a pasta dish and believe me both were super yummy!! For pasta we got Bootzin: Orecchiette, san marzano tomatoes, fennel sausage, cherry peppers, castelvetrano olives, parmigiano reggiano, basil, fennel pollen Our Pizza was Pizza 14 1/2 : San marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, homemade ricotta, hot sopressata, calabrian chiles, oregano, extra virgin olive oil After dinner we went to check out the club and was also a good time. We picked Porta for a quick lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Thankfully, we were able to be seated immediately inside for a party of two. There is a really cool atmosphere inside, but it was so dark it felt like I was in an Abercrombie and Fitch circa 2007. We were sat at a really large picnic-style table. I felt safe being spaced out from other guests. We ordered a small Three Trees salad (radicchio, Belgian endive, arugula, roasted prosciutto, toasted almonds, pear, rosemary-shallot vinaigrette). There was no prosciutto in it. We also ordered a Margherita pie and an Italian Stallion pie (San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella, gorgonzola, housemade Italian sausage, long hots). The Margherita was way too charred for my liking but the Italian Stallion was perfect. The gorgonzola was a great addition to the pie, and not something I would normally think of having on a pizza. It was the perfect combo of slight spice and saltiness. Our server was curt and hadn't checked up on us after we received our food. Why 5 stars? Because this ended up being a great place for a rehearsal dinner. --- --- --- We were in town for my wife's friend's wedding and this was the site of her rehearsal dinner. I'm not going to lie, when we first walked in, I was kind of shocked that this was the place she chose. It was absolutely packed from corner to corner with a sea of humanity and looked like the opposite of what you picture in a rehearsal dinner venue. And it was loud. Oh so loud. Fortunately, we were placed in a private room, off to the side from all the commotion. And inside this room, we entered a different universe. It was quaint and tranquil inside - rustic in design and beautifully decorated. I'm not how much of that was Porta and how much it was the person getting married, but either way, it came together very nicely. We were served a bunch of different things: charcuterie, mozarella cheese, cesar salad, margherita pizza, meatball pizza, pizza with some kind of spicy pepperoni and spaghetti. They finished things off with a nutella pizza and I sipped on the house white wine all night. The charcuterie was just okay, and I've had better wine, but outside of that, I really loved everything that came our way! I'm really glad I was able to try so many items on the menu because if it had just been my wife and I, we definitely would not have discovered so many gems. What was most surprising to me is how private this room was. Once the doors shut, you could practically hear a pin drop, which was amazing considering the volume coming from the main room. I heard that off to the side of our room was another private room that's actually large enough for weddings! Again, this is not what I would have expected after my first impression of this place, but Porta has proven to be quite versatile! read more

First time here, the place is huge with ample tables and chairs. Great location and outdoor seating. I looked to see where I can order my food and walked up to pizza counter which they said I would order from the bar. Ordered my margherita pizza, took some pictures while I waited. I engaged in conversation with hostess. She was telling me on weekends this place gets packed. I got my pizza went on my merry way. Opened the box, I figured I can eat and drive. Boy was wrong, this crust was barely a foundation. It was almost like a flatbread with tons of sauce. I couldn't even bring to my mouth without two hands. It was bending every which way but towards me. I'm a huge fan of crusty crust, not mushy crust I didn't mind paying the price but this was a project to eat. Better off with fork and knife. Original review 2016: I liked Porta very much. Very cool spot with the latest trendy pizzas - cooked in wood or brick oven style becoming the fav of many people over the more common pizzeria fare. Nice salads, sides and pasta too many with local farm raised items and home made ricotta and mutz. The pizzas are very modern mostly, creative with great ingredients (a bit chincy tho on some tho), crust is very nice but needs an upgrade in more flavor (maybe a tad more salt and better yeast?). Cool names - ie Fava Gardner (do hipsters know who Ava Gardner was?) - (Fava bean purée, fresh Fava beans, ricotta, mutz, fresh peas, etc. which was very nice and Lemon Preservation Society with mutz, preserved lemons chopped in small prices , pea shoots etc wonderful. I also had the Carbonara which was pancetta on mutz with an egg baked in center. Very good except way too skimpy on the good stuff. Ordered 4 buck olives for table and a huge bowl of fantastic assorted ones came - I may do my olive grocery shopping here as they are better and cheaper than Whole Foods. We sampled chocolate gelato and it was crazy intense, deeply flavored and rich. Lots of other nice dessert choices too. Beer garden atmosphere across from beach - nice beer selections and mixed drinks. It's nice to see NJ getting some modern, hip touches here. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. We had a group of 20 people and a last minute special food allergy request and everything was seamless and the food was amazing.
