Always like these guys. I always go and buy a lunch from them if they're in my area. They were by my work today so off I went. I haven't bought a lunch at work for 6 months so that says a lot. My go to is traditional beef empanadas. The salsa golf is fry sauce but tastes delightful, wish I had fries to go with it. We visited Porteña at the Taylorsville City Hall on a Friday evening. The Hot Beef and Beef empanadas were flavorful and tasty. The Ham & Cheese was okay and seemed lacking. It cost $22 for three empanadas and a side of potato salad, which seemed pricy to me. read more

Putting a hot dog with cheese in a flaky pocket does not make it ' gourmet'. Our potato filled one was only filled a 1/3 of the way and the potato salad was yuck- you cannot convince me it didn't come straight from the grocery store. Yikes. Will not be eating here again. read more

Pretty good empañadas, only complaint is they are a little pricy at around $6-7 per, but at least you get a sauce with each empanada and a side of potato salad (which is good but odd). I personally think I would go to Arempa's for bigger and cheaper empanadas that are just as tasty, but if I'm out and about and happen to see em I'd still probly snag a few. read more

Let's put it this way--if you have an option to eat empanadas, why wouldn't you? Mama-Lau was the food truck of the day at our office, and it was a very welcome sight. The beef and pulled pork empanadas were excellent, but my banana and Nutella dessert stole the show. I'd absolutely recommend the chimchurri sauce for your meat filled empys. As for the dessert empanadas, I would suggest asking them to hold the whipped cream--that way, you can pick it up to eat it and not lose precious Nutella by cutting it with fork and knife. But, regardless of how you decide to down your empanadas, Mama-Lau is a tremendous lunch time choice! read more

POSITIVES: Great local company, legit argentine empanadas. The sauces were awesome! (Golf sauce, chimichurri, and criolla). NEGATIVES: Pricey. It's $12 for 4 empanadas and 2 sauces. Hard to find the food truck. I know it's next to Start-Up crossing in Provo on Thurs. nights. They didn't have piononos (sponge cake with dulce de leche) PRICE: 3.49 per empanada, plus .50 sauces. I grew up in Buenos Aires and have eaten my weight in empanadas many times over. And I can definitively say Mama-Lau's beef empanada is the best and most authentic Argentine beef empanada I've had in the United States. The meat is high quality and perfectly seasoned, and the 'tapa' (or shell) is the perfect, thin consistency. They had several delicious sauces to choose from. Their chimichurri sauce wasn't just the best I've had in the USA, but the best I've ever had in my life, including Argentina. I would like to buy it by the case. Their other sauces salsa golf and pico de gallo were good. I did realize that salsa golf is basically fry sauce, I guess great cultures think alike. The men running the food truck on the day I visited in Fruit Heights were from the neighborhood of Belgrano in Buenos Aires. The authenticity of the food truck rang though to me. The chicken empanada had good flavor, but I thought it was odd that the chicken was diced instead of shredded. I'd never seen a diced chicken empanada in Buenos Aires, and it does seem a little less than classy. The pulled pork was ok, but nothing to write home about. All in all, though, Mama-Lau serves the best beef empanada and chimichurri around. Definitely worth checking out for a taste of Argentina. read more

We tried them at the food truck roundup in Provo and were not disappointed by our choice! Very yummy empanadas. We got chicken, beef, sweet beef, and caprese empanadas. They were all good, but the beef and caprese were definitely better. We got two sauces as well and both tasted amazing. 4 stars because when they gave us the empanadas we had no way of knowing which was which until we actually started eating, which was a bit irritating. read more

Good food but kinda pricy and not super filling! Got a ham and cheese empanada last night and it was good. The flavors were good and the service was friendly. Like some of the other people reviewed though is that it's kinda pricy and they are very small. It's just really hard to buy one empanada that's the size of your hand and a sauce for almost $5 when you could spent $2-$3 more and get a full meal from one of the other trucks. I admire them for being different and not the usual truck but I don't think I'd get a savory empanada again. Maybe a dessert one because I think perfect size for a dessert but for your meal I'd go else where. By the way Sauce is tiny and expensive and I didn't like it nor use it. read more

I have to give Mama Lau credit for giving the customers options. You can get a 1, 2, 3 or 4 empanada meal. I would however say that they are just ever so slightly overpriced for what you get. I would suggest something like fries as a small side would really set these meals off and make them worth it. Its always nice to have an Entre and a side. If you have read any of my reviews you know I can't resist ordering pulled Pork. It wont be winning any competition BBQ awards any day soon, and the crust wasn't anything to write home about, in fact the crust was almost raw in the middle. The flavors though were pretty decent, unlike some other pulled pork entrées I've had, you can definitely tell its BBQ pork, and the flavors are there. It didn't say " smoked Pulled pork" So I wont' judge it for not having any bark or not being smoky enough, though if it were, then it would put it into a completely different category of good. I got a bacon empanada, and this one appeared to have properly cooked crust. They suggested their "golf" sauce which by the ingredients basically looks like fry sauce with some seasoning in it. The empanada itself kind of tasted like a bacon cheese and herb quesadilla with lots of air in it. The combination of this with the golf sauce was not a good combination, it was a very unusual combination, I don't think I'd go this route again. My apple empanada was an interesting sight, drenched in powdered sugar, swimming in a sea of canned whipped cream. I was delighted to not cut into it to find canned apple pie filling. Some of the crust remained crunchy which made me thankful for the sea of whipped cream. Inside there were raisins, nuts and apple slices with a cinnamon spice. Mine was cold, which I am not sure if its the intended eating temperature for this dish. My palette was dying for that apple pie alamode contrast from the empanada and the cream, but this could just be my inner American speaking. All in all it was a decent meal, I would go there again if there were not more favorable choices available, but unfortunately doesn't make my favorites list. Solid 3. read more

The price is a little higher for catering orders than some other companies I looked into, but the quality of the food as well as the customer service makes the difference well worth it.
