This is the 4th or 5th time I have ordered from this store and they have COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN THE CHEESE FOR MY CHEESE FRY. The food is what it is...been the same for decades.... My complaint is why ask what we want as toppings if u are just gonna put whatever they want? I get pick up a lot and they NEVER have the topping right. I get a hot dog for me and one for my mom and get us a fry to share. We like different toppings and I customize the topping on both dogs..... they always get them wrong. Why even ask.... I hate onions and always have to pick them off and half the time there is mustard when I ALWAYS indicate we don't want any. I order each dog separately so not even the combo that they would maybe assume that both would be the same.... And sometimes it's not even close to what either of us wanted. Basically I never get what we want when I order pick up or drive thru. So I'm not getting the food I pay for which is the whole point of buying food. read more

"Way understaffed and unprepared" were the words of their manager tonight when having to go inside after waiting in the FRONT of the drive through for 45 minutes AFTER placing my order. Why do I keep coming here?! Because I love their chopped salad but after tonight, I may have to rethink that. I didn't use the drive-up after hearing about the Niles location drive-up employee who took someone's credit card and tried to make several fraudulent purchases. Location Portillo's ( portilloshotdogs ) at Rolling Meadows Cleanliness due to COVID I was not able to go inside to see if this location is maintained like the other's. Ambience just like the other Portillo's location, I am sure this place has a lot of neon and retro items inside the store. Cute place to go for a quick bite with friends and family. I'm sure the kids will love the decor too. Service I had a bad experience with this location, I asked for my sandwich to be dry and sauce on the side. But they forgot my sauce and when I tried to call, no one was picking up. There was no way to complain in the app and the drive-thru staff was rude and made me wait for a long time. I was just asking them for my gravy sauced and was given some resistance. Pricing the Italian Beef here is pretty reasonably priced at $6.49 + taxes without fries and a drink. Taste this is one of the best Italian Beef sandwiches you'll find in Chicago. The bun has a great texture that mixes well with the marinated Italian beef. The gravy sauce taste so good with the beef. Tips there is always a long line in this place. I recommend to download their app and order ahead of time to avoid long wait times in pick up and drive-thru. If you are going to order the Italian Beef, definitely order it to be DRY and sauce on the side. This way the sandwich doesn't get too soggy while you wait. read more

It almost hurts me to write this about ANY Portillo's. I've eaten in several locations in IL, FL, and AZ and I haven't seen a location this bad. I've been coming to this location off/on for nearly 30 years and sad to see how much has declined. First thing we noticed this time was how dirty the floors were--garbage and general grimy-ness. There were small puddles of water on the floor even though it had not rained. Service was slow even though it was only 3:30 and there only a few customers inside. We usually order the usual things when we go to Portillo's. Everything was fine except the chicken sandwich was dry and overcooked. We tried to order the family order of onion rings and were told we can't since it was a 'catering item' (even though it was on the regular, not catering menu). Um, ok. Whatever. One guy behind the counter looked like he was on something and/or hated his job. Next time, I'll make the extra 5 min drive to the Schaumburg location where it is cleaner and will get better service. read more

However the service I endured today was enough to make me never step foot in the restaurant again. I was unable to catch the manager with the ginger hairs name, as she acted completely unprofessional and flat out rude. She is a shinning example of the employee you shouldn't hire to represent your company. And on top of her condescending tone as well utter uproffesionalism I witnessed her while on the clock, smoking something over by the dumpsters that looked like an illegal substance. Unless you are in close proximity, NEVER order your food through the mobile app. Once prepared, your bagged order gets placed out in the open on the "ORDER PICKUP" shelf. From here, you must hope that customers, delivery pickup drivers, and other passersby will be both trustworthy AND be double checking to ensure they are grabbing the correct order. Full disclosure, I'm a Portillo's fanatic. They make great food, the dining room was clean, and the staff is always friendly. This location holds true to all of that. Where it veers is the physical structure and décor. Most locations are pretty large with a bunch of old crap on the walls, etc. This one, however, is more of a retro 1950's feel with neon lights and booths, etc. It was a nice change of pace from the stereotypical Portillo's. And, like I said, it didn't affect any of the normal functioning I've come to know and love. It is a bit on the small side, but most people seemed to eat rather quickly and move on. Although they're known for their hot dogs I thought I would try a chicken club sandwich with bacon. Everything was very fresh and hot. Really great sandwich that I would get again. Chicken was crispy and bun was toasted. The dining area was clean and not very busy but it was 11am on a Friday. Wait was very short. The restaurant has a 50's retro style with neon lights and colors all around. The corresponding music pulls it all together. Only down side I had was that my food was considered "for here" yet was all thrown in a paper bag. My sandwich was in a styrofoam container with mayonnaise smeared a little on the outside and was pushed to the bottom of the bag that wasn't any larger than the bag itself. The chicken was fine, but the lettuce was not only wilted, it was old. I ordered it without the dressing because I know how much crap is in that stuff HOPING to get some vinegar, but as usual, this place doesn't have any because it doesn't have a Barnelli's! Fries are never fresh , you have to literally tell them no salt so you can get fresh fries. My Girlfriend loves the Chocolate Cake Shake and I have given Portillo's a chance twice now. But both times we came away with just a blah meal that was way overpriced. This time I had the Italian Sausage with Cheese Fries. The Italian Sausage was way overcooked and I felt that it had been sitting there all afternoon. The Chees fries was basic fries with a container of cheese provided. My Girlfriend had the Beef Sandwich with Peppers and Onion Rings. Rings were good but basic and the beef was OK at best. Very polite Food is fresh and its always packed no matter what time you go. I grew up eating this so I think im biased but I moved away to live on the east coast for the remainder of my childhood and adult life. I came back today to eat my italian beef sandwich dry, with gravy on the side and I can say with complete confidence that it is the same, delicious sandwich I remember from my childhood, which says a lot considering nothing ever stays the same. Then, as I got closer to approaching the order people, I got a phone call from my Andres D, and I decided to take it as a sign that I shouldn't be eating this way since I wouldn't be able to both talk to Andres and place my order with the drive-thru man at the same time, so I turned the wheel and decided to leave my spot in the drive-thru queue and go somewhere healthier. Maybe Whole Foods. And then I got to talking to Andres, who's absolutely one of the kindest, sweetest, happiest guys I know - also a lover of fast food - and told him what just happened with my feeling guilty and leaving the drive-thru and what my order wsa going to be, and the first thing he said was, 'Mark is out of town again, isn't he?' and the second was something along the lines of 'Treat yo se'f!'... so I did. Because he's right. So while I continued to discuss not-so-urgent life matters with Andres, I found myself at another Portillo's location just up Golf Road and I couldn't help but laugh as I placed my order with the girl standing outside the drive thru lines. I honestly couldn't hold it in. So much so that I felt bad, because I started to feel like either the girl who was taking my order would think I was having a go at her, or that I was on something, so I apologized and just explained that I wasn't laughing at her, I was laughing because all that food was for me. All of it. And i just had to laugh. She didn't judge. Just smiled and told me I could move up in line. Sweet thing. When I finally got up to the window to pick up my cake shake and food, the girl handed me a cake shake with no straw and I was like thinking, 'what the sh*t is this?', so I calmly asked for a straw and she replied that the straw was inside my bag with all my fries. WHY U DO DIS TO ME, PORTILLO'S? You know damn well that no one orders a cake shake and leaves without sucking half of it down before they get of the parking lot. It's like you're trying to make searching for the cake shake straw the new texting and driving. Also, my fries here weren't the freshest... which was sad since I'd gotten an almost literal boatload of them, but ain't no thang for me because I've got a damn fine microwave that was more than happy to assist in saving my happiness, er, dinner. i mean dinner. read more

Love Portillo's it's everything great about Chicagoland area!! Super cool place it's like a 50's Diner very retro. They have a drive thru that is pretty quick or you can eat inside and the service is fairly quick inside as well. The Chicago dog is my fav here I have had it at other spots and by far I love it best at Portillo's. I grew up eating Portillos for most of my life. 10 years ago my family moved way down south to the desert. I finally had the chance to visit my favorite Portillos from my childhood the other day. It looks just as I remember it. We went there during lunch time and the drive thru was very quick. The crew had it running like a fine tuned machine. I ordered my favorite beef with mozarella and sweet peppers. My friend got a chicago dog. We shared a strawberry malt and cheese fries. We took this delicious goodness back to the hotel. I sat down at the table and took my first bite. Instantly I was transported down memory lane as flashes of well spiced beef, chewy and wet italian bread and melted cheese over delicious sweet peppers bombarded my taste buds. The malt was a sea of creamy, fruity goodness. The cheese fries were salty and cheesey all at the same time. Oh I was so satisfied after this meal. My friend, who is not from Chicago, is begging me to take her back there before we leave. I don't need any convincing. This place is great, no matter what location you frequent. read more

Payed $23 dollars for a beef sandwich combo and a beef and cheddar, lg fries and a reg coke... When I opened up my beef and sausage combo, there was like no beef at all, I went and talk to the manager and asked him why they would serve such an item that had literally no beef on the sandwich... his answer was they only put 4 ounces and beef is expensive. My answer to him was there wasn't even 4 ounces on the sandwich and he was willing to do nothing about it. It looks like somebody grabbed a little handful of Italian beef and slapped it on,it was so sloppy. This is not how a professional restaurant should be. I am always excited when the option to choose the lemon cake comes during the spring/summer months. My experience today has made me very upset however. I usually order from the door dash app for my favorite restaurants. Today was no different except I was excited to order the lemon cake with my meal. I did not see the option to order the lemon cake just the chocolate. I decided to call the store and ask them why if was not on the menu and if I could simply order my meal and they could swap out my chocolate cake for the lemon cake. The manger who did not give me his name said that it should be in the menu and that he could not help me out with swapping the cake because it would mess up his inventory. Huh??? Are you serious? So I had to get in the car and drive there to speak with the manager. Upon arriving there I spoke with two managers one of which name was Juan and they all played dumb like they never spoke to me but did admit that it was not a problem to swap the cake for the one I liked. I asked the lady at the register (who turned her badge backwards so that I could not read her name, ) , what was the young manager's name next to her and she said she doesn't know even though she works with him on a regular basis! The manager's all had in bright orange vests so that's how I knew he was one and he was young like the guy I spoke to over the phone. I usually order from PORTILLOS quite often but the service at this restaurant has changed significantly!!! I'm disappointed because the managers didn't seem to care about the customer at all!
