The customer service is impeccable at this location. The staff are friendly and professional. This may be a small detail to some but I love that they ask me if I'm a rewards member and they always remind me that I have offers I can redeem. During this trip, Brianna (who was extremely sweet) informed me that I had a free slice of cake which made a perfect dessert after my meal and Steffanie let me know that I could fill out the receipt survey to earn free fries. She was super helpful. With me being a native, I can vouch that the food tastes just as good as it would if you were ordering from a location in Chicago, which is important. The dine in area is super clean and everything is neatly placed down to all of the chairs being pushed in. read more

My friend and I were originally headed to Pluckers Wing Bar, one of our favorites, but the wait was 45 minutes to an hour. He suggested Portillo's instead. I asked what they had, and he said burgers... which doesn't help me since I don't eat beef. I told him if they had chicken sandwiches, we could go. Not only did they have chicken sandwiches... they had SPICY chicken sandwiches. And whatever that sauce is? Delicious. This is one of those places where you can order at the kiosk or with the staff behind the counter... we went with the staff. Customer service from everyone was top tier. I loved how the whole team was engaged and actually providing real customer service. The vibe gives classic bar-and-grill energy, and the food? Really good. I didn't expect it to hit like that, but it did. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with fries and a Dr. Pepper... and yes, the Dr. Pepper was on point too. Overall, the experience was great. I told my friend if I ended up liking this place, I was going to resent him... Well... resentment felt. P.S. The bathrooms could've used a little attention. Cmon' it's Portillos! Beautiful building. Teams quickly engaged and process order with speed. Need sauerkraut which I thought was a hot dog staple! Still having order all three variations all very good. But this is a hot dog place on steroids and a landmark in Chi-Town. Mathew was our front of the house contact that dropped the order and was polite and friendly. Sorry no bathroom checks but assume spotless like the rest of the place. read more

I got 2 Chicago Dogs with one being their Garden or vegan version. Both delicious and juicy with numerous little flavors in each bite. I hate relish, so that was the only topping I requested to not be on them. The beef one was great as usual and the vegan one was also very good enough for me to get it again. It had a subtle sweet n earthy flavor profile to it and paired very well with the tomatoes, onions, mustard, peppers, celery salt, etc. The buns on both were so fresh and those seeds add taste to them too. There is plenty of seating and sat our party of 12 very easily. We ordered through a kiosk, and food came out pretty fast. I went with the italian beef meal with the au jus on the side. While it tasted okay, it's definitely not something I would seek out again. My friend who didn't get the au jus on the side commented that the meat was still quite dry while the bread was too soggy. The fries were very crispy and salty, which is probably the only thing I'd go back for. Other friends who got the hotdogs and polish sausage said that they were all just okay. read more

I only had time to go through the drive thru but I was not disappointed! This was my second time coming to the location. No employees outside to take order with tablet. Just straight to the second window to order. Quick, fast and decent sandwich. No wait in the drive thru (like last time) . Inside the restaurant looked steady with business (for lunch time). This location kind of surprises me because I feel even though it's off the freeway it feels to me like it's easy to miss. It was only when I was driving back from Sugar Land that I randomly looked and saw the Portillos sign. I immediately got off the freeway and stopped by. Beef sandwhich with mozzarella did not disappoint. I usually get it dunked (wet) but forgot. Even though, sandwich was warm , mozzarella semi melted and bread was soft enough. I will be back. Normally when I visited a Portillo's days out of state I immediately assume that the food is not good at all. Thankfully with this location I could tell you that this food is really good and it tastes like a Chicago staple and this is coming from a Chicagoan himself. This place had great chicago style hot dogs, amazing gravy bread and Italian beef. Prices here were fair but overall not too bad compared to the Portillo's back in the Chicago area. The drive-thru is shockingly empty as well as the parking lot itself. Service here is unfortunately very slow but if you dine in it's at least very quiet and it's full of the great charm and Nostalgia that Portillo's has inside to look around at while you're dining in read more

In a galaxy not so far away, specifically, Stafford, Texas, stands a large, shiny structure known as Portillo's Hot Dogs. From the outside, the building has the presence of a Star Destroyer hangar, and inside, the décor and vibe are welcoming enough to make you think you've landed in the Mos Eisley Cantina (minus the droids, thankfully). After placing my order, I grabbed an unsweetened tea with lemon, which was decent, refreshing enough to quench a Jedi's thirst after a long pod race. But then came the dark side: the ketchup cup dispenser. Whoever engineered this contraption must be a Sith Lord in disguise. You have to twist, bend, and practically use the Force to get a single cup out. It's about as frustrating as the person who invented the automatic start-stop feature on cars, and trust me, that guy belongs in the Sarlacc pit. On to the food: Chili Dog: More beans than meat, as if the cook forgot which planet they were on. Chicago Dog: A standard trooper in the hot dog army, not bad, but nothing that makes you want to write back to the Rebel base about it. Fries: Krinkle-cut, crispier than those from Cane's, a small victory for the Resistance. All in all, Portillo's offers a decent meal but doesn't exactly earn Jedi Master status. The Force was okay with this one, but not strong. Final Verdict: 6 out of 10 stars. A quick stop on your journey through the galaxy, but not the chosen one for Houston's best hot dogs. read more

We have come to really love Portillo's! It is in our regular rotation of eating out. I love that their fries are cooked with tallow - which is a lifestyle change that we are trying to make. Plus the flavor of fries cooked in tallow is so delicious! We need more restaurants to get on board with us. Also love that you can do your burger and a lettuce wrap, they do a great job with this. Super tasty/tender Italian Beef sammy and fries. I got mine dipped in gravy, you can get it dry, with extra gravy or dipped....I went with dipped and it was very good....Don't like a mess so I ate it wit' a knife and fork and I left very happy! The fries are very good, crisp and salty. I may not be able to come and not get the Italian Beef...it was that good. Lots of oil and gas memorabilia which I like....no Phillips 66 though. Portillo's has THE best backyard burger of all local fast food in my opinion. It's the perfect size, perfectly charred, juicy and saucy but not too messy, good amount of toppings and cheese. Shout out to the fries as well, for being fried in tallow! We also love the ambience. It's so glowy and American. Something about it feels like eating at Disney World. I've been to Portillo's in Chicago and told my cousin about it. We came here for a late lunch after shopping next door at Costco Business Center. We got the two hot dogs with crinkle fries for $13, so affordable. Hot dogs were Chicago style (which I love, tons of veggies - pickles, onions, relish, tomato) and seeded bun. The menu isn't as extensive as the ones in Chicago (no vodka penna which is my fave) but has the classics (hot dogs, chocolate cake milk shake, and Italian beef sandwich.) Another con about this location was the lack of cleanliness. Our booth had crumbs and water on it and the floor was wet but the drink station (someone just plopped a wet floor sigh there). read more

I usually go into depth when I write reviews but this was not actually a food experience but more toward customer experience. I usually have good things to say about Portillo's because of how the food is every time I stop in no matter what I order. The restaurant is nice and fits that Texas gas station theme which I appreciate the uniqueness. But one interaction when I called the restaurant about a confusion on my order really stood out. I had gotten the salad and was asked if I'd like to have the house bread to go with it. So I agreed. When I arrived home, I noticed the house bread was not in my bag. When I called, a team member picked up and explained my order. I was put on hold for a bit and when the team member got back on the phone, she told me "the house bread is not sold at this location and it is only offered in Dallas." "The team member that took my order was new and he wasn't trained right." Now I can forgive the mistake and it's not a huge deal over some bread/rolls but to tell a customer over the phone another team member is new and not trained right, I find poor communication and not so cohesive. I hear this response as "throwing a person under the bus". Not very pleasant for today's trip but I hope that interpersonal communication can be resolved. read more

I was in the area and needed a snack before shopping & decided to try this new restaurant that Ive sen before on TikTok. Xenaia who was working the drive through was soo helpful, patient, sweet and steered me the right way for my order. She even upsold me on the onions rings. She was right theyre really good! Chicken tenders 4.5/5 Small fry 3.5/5 - they were cold Onion rings 5/5 Cheese sauce 4/5 Spent $14, would return when in the area again. Sorry no pictures i aint on the car :-( read more

I'm from chicago and visited this location twice. both times great food great service. This evening I decided to get Uber eats. The workers at the restaurant treat online orders so bad because they know you're not going to bring it back. This order was horrible. Itilian beef dry as dog food, the fries were burnt and it was only half of an order, chili dog cold and soggy. Go dine in, don't trust , don't trust delivery. read more

So update. I placed an order online. I got my hotdog same day that they said they were out of hotdogs, turning off the outside lights and dining lights WHILE people were still inside dining. This left a bad first impression on our first time trying Portillos and while the staff was on board I don't understand why turn off the kiosk, go to the counter and order all for them to say they're out of all hot dogs to my partner. I wish they opened earlier with a breakfast dog and some Lake Michigan coffee. I've tried the Maxwell sausage dog (savory, snappy, I'd like a little Char on the skin) and an Italian Beef, Dipped (all-the-way has a nice balance of beef : onion : pepper!) and both hit my Happy Food button. Ordering and pickup are smooth and clear. There's a kiosk option that grooves with their app and coupon rewards, but skips some customization condiments. If you don't sit with a view of the order tracking board, no worries they're calling them, Cicero Bingo style. I actually have no idea if there's such a thing as "Lake Michigan coffee," but I'd be up for it. Portillo's is delivering to Stafford foodies a truncated but tasty Chi-town palette. The service was horrible. Been coming since they opened. Today, my cashier Melayia was rushing me to place my order. When giving me my cup for soda, she grabbed the cup from the inside. I asked for another one and her attitude got worst. Then she rung up my order wrong. I asked for a cheese burger ONLY extra mayo. Easy tomato and onion. You see from the picture, I got something totally different. Then my fries got cold waiting on them to remake my burger. Just ruined my dinner!! The manager Danesha had to show her how to ring up my free large fries from another survey I submitted. I asked another manager (Caucasian male) if this location would be selling fish burgers like other locations. It seems like I disturbed him and he answered sarcastically "no". First time here. They have those tablets at the front door. Which I don't really like. I like counter service. The tablet kept asking me to upgrade. And I wanted to eat inside and afterwards I got it to go in a bag! Was going to order a polish dog but after the little problem with the tablet, I skipped it and ordered a double burger with small fries and a large drink for over $15.00! At Freddy's Steakburgers that's $13.00! Burger was good but there's no salt and pepper no where! You have to go back to the counter and ask for some! VERY STRANGE FOR A RESTAURANT NOT HAVING SALT AND PEPPER OUT FOR CUSTOMERS. And it's a pressure machine pre-Made sweet tea machine pump. No fresh made tea of any kind! I am originally from the Chicago area and very familiar with Portillo's. Both the Chicago style hot dog and Italian beef sandwiches are exactly how I remember them. Service was good as it was place your order and pick up at the counter when your number is called. Wait time for food was about 10 minutes. Casual feeling and was not a peak time to eat lunch or dinner so there wasn't a problem of hearing a conversation at our table. read more

This portillo's is as good as Chicago. The roast beast dip is great. Chocolate cake is a must. Some people swear by the chocolate cake shake - yes they put cake into the shake - didn't wow me. Not bad, just no wow. But I am a purist on shakes and malts - vanilla is the best. read more

Lacks flavor. Like a lot of flavor. The "gravy" I believe is the water they use to boil the Italian beef. Why boil? Because there is no other way to achieve that bland flavor other than boiling. Just go next door. read more

Hallelujah!!! No more drive bys or trips to Richmond. Whatever!! "A piece of home is finally close." Missing nothing at all. The taste is just like suburbs of the "Chi" Lawd, lawd, lawd, I love it. You have to try a beef sandwich, dipped with mayo and cheese. My mouth tingles when I bite into the juiciness. Get it dry if you don't like wet sandwiches. Five out of five thumbs up. read more

I waited a very long time for Portillos in Stafford to open! Since i am originally from Chicago, i know Portillos and what they serve.... in Chicago!. But i don't know why the food here in Stafford doesn't quite taste the same as the food in Chicago or Naperville. Their fries here is not served hot, the Chicago hotdog is full of too much relish, but the italian beef is about almost the same. So i think i will wait till i go visit my sister to have some Portillos in Naperville. read more

Established in 1963.

In 1963, Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo's hot dog stand in Villa Park, IL, which he called "The Dog House." I personally do not enjoy eating a burger and grease running down my arms. That is just my personal opinion, but the burgers were really greasy. The french fries tasted stale and not very fresh. They were edible, but I would've liked to have had fresher french fries that were really fresh. The drink drinks were actually very good and very fresh and perfect on the combination of syrup and carbonation. I think I would possibly try this establishment again and try their hotdog, but as for the burger, they were way too greasy and weren't anything real special.

I go to a table, circle a few times, and sit down to eat. Make no bones about it, the weiner is cheap. What do you expect for that price? This mall's clientele probably dictates that limitation. But I would like to see this place elsewhere and upgrade the ingredients, fur a higher price. As it is, it's better than James Coney Island. Occasionally, they sponsor a salsa band. I suppose after dancing too much, you would get dog tired, and maybe not get a lick of sleep.
