KEVIN IS BLESSED! I recently went to Posh Studios specifically to get a permanent color with Kevin by recommendation from a friend. told him I would give him a review and I am an honest reviewer. So, I felt the need to wait until I had time to style my hair to see what it looked like so that I could post a review about my entire experience with Kevin - from the consultation to styling. I have now styled my hair after his coloring....AMAZING! I have gone to two highly recommended natural hair stylists and was disappointed with the coloring (and out of over $100 both times). I said I'd try Kevin based on a friend. I chose to do the consultation (I recommend it). We talked about what I was looking for in color. He showed me some light colors that had me a bit concerned (being honest). But, it's hair...I live on the edge and went with his explanation that it wouldn't come out that light. I came for my appointment, reiterated the vibe I was going for: noticeable lighter brown with some depth, but nothing too drastic and odd. He took that and ran with it. I had no clue what he was doing while coloring, but he took my 'vision' and threw on a couple of colors to get this AWESOME look! Here's my color! Hair feels fine; no dryness, no breakage so far (and no bleaching). I have no problem paying big bucks for color as long as it's GOOD! This was money well spent. I have been to Posh Hair Studios multiple times and in reading the two reviews am shocked at what I have read as I have never had a negative experience. Kevin B., Head stylist and Owner of Posh Hair Studios is a true master of technique and is one of the only people I will allow to cut my hair in the state of Texas. Regardless of the location (which is in the "galleria" area per the map) the service, diverse clientele and level of professionalism are never compromised. I have never seen a customer walk out unhappy, beautiful yes, unhappy no. I mean they offer you a glass of wine while you sit under the dryer.. hello... could it get any better?! As Kevin always states "The proof is in the visit" if you are looking for a new stylist, a new look or simply a consultation on how to upkeep and maintain your own healthy head of hair, Posh Hair Studios is the place to visit. This salon is in a great location: very close to the Galleria area. I've been in the salon a few times and it's clean, spacious and vibrant filled with abstract artwork. Kevin Bolivar aka "Posh" has a large diverse clientele. I have a few friends that go to him and they have always been so happy with his service and professionalism. Great location. Salon is pretty big, has a waiting area with vending machines and my stylist has a private area which is nice and convienent. This was my first time being serviced by Koko but it definitely wont be the last. Shes amazing and talented and makes every effort to care for your hair regardless of style. I was so impressed that she did not have to cut my virgen extensions and was able to give me the look desired... but better. I'll be back around V-Day for fresh install. Can't wait. read more

I was excited when a friend mentioned this place to me as I've been in the market for a hair salon that specializes in ethnic hair but is also more on the upscale side, ala Azur or Ceron. This place is described as "in the heart of the Galleria area"...it's not. It's on a ghetto part of Richmond Ave in a decrepit office building. Speaking of that office building- it sits back from the road, behind a fence with no signage or anything. I actually passed it up several times. However, I ignored my mounting hesitation and dove in (this was a birthday present for which I was thankful). The salon was okay looking, nothing special and expected after seeing the surrounding area. Kevin Bolivar seemed to know what he was doing during my consultation. I wanted my hair chemically straightened and then style in a 40s style bob since my party the next day was a 40s theme. I'd sent him pictures of what I wanted AND pictures of my hair. The relaxer process went well. I was served a glass of wine, which was nice and since I was the only one in the shop I was under the dryer and out again in no time. However the styling was an entirely different story. Kevin started curling my hair with a flat iron, much like I do myself at home. But he started with NO products. Not even hair spray, a moisturizer, nothing. I kept asking how this style would hold with nothing in my hair but he assured me it would. 30 minutes later, he announced he was done. My hair looked exactly like it looks every single day of the week when I do it myself. I was stunned and horrified. I am used to going to a hairdresser at JC Penney's but, as I mentioned before, was looking for a more upscale experience. At that moment I wished with all my might I was back at Penney's. If I'm in for a special occasion, heck, for any occasion my hair is moisturized, straightened, curled, what have you, until it is a beautiful silky creation of sexy. 90 minutes at Posh Hair Studio and I looked a hot mess. It was a humid day in April and the amateur curls were already starting to droop. I was so disappointed. I tried to tell Kevin but I could tell he didn't posses the skills to create what I was looking for. Thank goodness it was a gift and I didn't have to pay otherwise I would've been out of $80. He assured me the curls would stay until the party point. I'd stopped believing anything that came out of his mouth at that point. He told me to "sleep pretty" that night and it would be fine. The next day after "sleeping pretty" (which involves sleeping on your stomach to avoid your head touching the pillow) my hair was flat as a pancake. At JCPenny's my hair would've held up several days, through tossing, turning and the nasty. But my hair was the result of using NO products and an unskilled hair stylist. I will NEVER go back to Posh Hair Studio. read more

Starting my day by thinking of how GREAT my stylist is, and was in awe when I saw the previous posting!! I'm in total shock, as I have been a client of Kevin's for 10 YEARS!!!!! He has been threw all my major milestones in my life and keeping me looking stylish on every occasion. My surprise engagement which started out as a nice dinner with my then boyfriend, and all the wedding planning events, my wedding day for me and several of my bridal party, both baby showers for my daughters, and every other special occasion that one can image. Of course my biweekly maintenance and styling appointments, and not to forget when something came up and I was in a pinch and wanted to look extra together for something that just came up! Over the years I have refereed Kevin to several friends and family who then and still now get to experience such wonderful talent and a moderate price in Houston!!! I know everyone one has their own thoughts and preferences on what and how a stylist should do their hair, but lets remember they are the ones who decided to take their craft and desire of doing hair to the level of becoming a professional!!!! I'm so grateful to have found a stylist who not only can take me in on my standing appointments, pop in's, but I finally found a stylist who is really knowledgeable about hair and how what works for me may not work for someone else and vise verse. Kevin could tell by my hair texture changing that I was pregnant with my first child, and I hadn't even told him yet! I wanted to get through the first few months before sharing, but as a true, experienced stylist can notice that things are changing for you by just your hair texture changing. I credit that to a true stylist, and not someone who just does hair cause they used the profession as a employment back up plan to get a paycheck. I had an horrible experience with one of the stylists that works at Posh. I wanted a ponytail hairstyle, and was informed by the stylist that it could hold up for at least two weeks. The ponytail only lasted for 3 days so I spoke to the stylist to see what she could do to accommodate. Her response was unapologetic, and it led to her ultimately calling me out my name. Her exact words to me was "cheap a** h** and a scammer". I was very upset about this, since I had tried to handle the situation calmly. I spoke to Kevin, the owner, he apologized and seemed sincere for what I had experienced. Kevin told me he would not escalate the issue and to just let it go. She rents out a space, so he could not "fire" her, but he did have the option to evict her and chose not to! Overall the stylist was unprofessional and threatened to fight me. Ummm, I don't know which Posh Jasmine H. visited, but this sounds nothing like the Kevin at Posh who has been taking excellent care of my hair for several years. I constantly have people approaching me to ask who does my hair and wanting to get his contact information. He is one of few stylists these days who is passionate about his craft and knows what each head of hair needs to look amazing. Come spend a minute in his shop and chat with the women who are his long-term and loyal customers. You don't build up a client base like that doing things Jasmine described. Nobody does my hair like Kevin. I love his work - cut, color and style. When dealing with long un-permed Black hair he doesn't even flinch (note-I've have had a few stylists flat out tell me no). I don't go to the salon often, however, Kevin makes it easy on me. He gets me in and out and I love the way my hair looks, feels, and smells when I leave. On the personal side - He's good folks. The atmosphere at Posh is enough to give 5 stars. Once you enter the salon, you are greeted by vibrant colors and beautiful artwork. Christmas, Kevin's assistant, greeted us. My mother and I were referred to Kevin by one of my linesisters. My mother was getting a wash and flatiron. She was very content with her hair afterwards.
