Beautiful place. Rustic, romantic. I'm kinda digging the East Bay. The house salad Insalata Mista was very good. Spinach Salad was fantastic. We were very happy after the salads, but the Fettucini was the highlight of the evening. Fantastic! Highly recommend. Entrees...eh. Rabbit had a beautiful puff pastry top but the stew was clumsy. Salmon was OK but uninspring. Server was fantastic. Pre-warned us that they were super short staffed b/c a few people were out sick then apologized profusely about the mid-course being late. We didn't even notice, and she claimed that it took 20 minutes and kept apologizing. Overall the ambiance makes this a worthwhile experience and the salads and pasta give me hope that we just chose the wrong entrees. I use Yelp a lot, but never really review, only when I feel it's absolutely necessary. Anyway, after serving 10 years in the Marine Corps my boyfriend decided he wanted to go to culinary school. He went here for a class trip and was so impressed by what the owner had to say about his food and service, he asked me to meet him there after work for dinner. Not a single server approached us, not even to take our drink order, though we locked eyes with a few of them. We waited for 30 minutes and left, no worries, I wanted sushi that night anyway... *The one star is for the bread and butter, which were already there before we were seated. read more

Food was great, service was ok. It was packed on Saturday night. Came here as a party of eight for a birthday celebration for one of our friends. We had reservations for 8PM but our table was not ready for at least 15 min. Seemed like the hostesses had some issues with seating and I overheard them scrambling to get people seated who had been waiting for a while with reservations just like us. We were finally seated and food came out at a good pace. We got a wonderful bottle of Cabernet and Chardonnay for the table that was a hit. Found a little fly in my boyfriend's wine glass but luckily I wasn't having wine that night so we switched glasses. All of our food was amazing so compliments to the chef! We had given instruction beforehand to have a cake we brought to be served later on. When I asked our server to serve it, he questioned if I really wanted to bring it then since our table wasn't cleared yet. Listen, I understand that I am 26 years old and look probably 16, but I am the one who made the reservation and had the whole dinner planned out so please, I beg of you, take me seriously when I speak to you. I needed my cake served before the birthday girl got too full. So when I say I want the cake to be served, bring it out. Another thing that was frustrating was that I had called ahead a few days prior to our reservation to make note of the birthday. I called to ask if there was anything special they did for birthdays and was told they gave a complimentary dessert. This never came out or showed up so that was pretty disappointing. Someone who wasn't even our server took a picture of us at the end which was very nice of him! But overall, the wait time to be seated and part of the service kind of killed my vibe on this review. My new favorite place in WC/Lafayette. By far the most inviting interior in the area. Walking in you feel like you are walking in the backyard of a swanky mansion. Nice grass area on one side with outdoor patio seating and fire pits on the other. Inside is a mix of casual and contemporary making this a perfect date spot. Our server Rick couldn't have been more kind. His pride in the restaurant showed as he gave us some background info and a detailed description of the menu. Apps were the tomato soup and the burrata. I'm not normally a fan of tomato soup mainly because most are simply a bowl of heavy cream. Rick explained to us that this one was made with chicken broth instead giving a lighter texture. That was certainly true making for a very refreshing soup that was also nicely seasoned. The burrata was some of the best I have ever had. The balsamic reduction on top gave it a nice sweetness. The addition of the artisan salumi gave this dish a nice complexity that I had never experienced before. Truly amazing. Entrees were the halibut and ricotta ravioli. The star of the evening was the ravioli. The pasta was an absolute perfect al dente. The ricotta was the perfect amount of salty and rich without overpowering the other elements. The addition of the crunchy tomato pieces and crumbled queso al fresco combined to create a truly refined dish. Both in texture and taste. I will remember this dish for some time. At this point we were both stuffed but couldn't pass up dessert based on the quality of the rest of the meal. We chose the "crisp of the day". This included blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Very refreshing though served in a rather large bowl. Between the two of us we couldn't finish. Definitely on the pricey side even for this area. Though given the excellent service, ambiance and of course the food, this should be on the top of the list for an elegant dinner. read more

It's good, could be better. Had a reservation for last night, walk in, very beautiful ladies at the counter but not much in the way of "welcome, how are you folks doing tonight", etc. Just "hi" and "follow her". No problem, got seated with menus, except no drink menus and no waiter for longer than expected. Then the lady that seated us comes back, thought we were getting a drink menu, no, she wants to ask us if we can move. Didn't offer a drink comp, etc, just sat us somewhere else. Ok, whatever, we are over by the fireplace and got our waitress who was great. Great help from her on wine selection and food. After all that we were happy from that point on. As for the food, seems like the same menu for many years but still good stuff, not great though. Nice ambience, guitar player, nice setting. Final conclusion: A big hearty "Meh". This is the place I go for a local splurge or special occasion as the restaurant never fails to impress. The food and ambiance are slam dunk crowd pleasers however you cannot be in a hurry! The wait staff is friendly and helpful however they lack a sense of urgency on attentiveness and bringing your order to you (if you course it out). We had the soup, a caesar salad, the octopus salad, and for entrees the duck, the lamb, rabbit pasta and pasta bolognse, 3 sodas and no desserts. The caesar salad tasted of only the heart of the romaine lettuce, very light green white...bland. The duck breast was good, though a bit fatty. The lamb was very tasty as was the rabbit. It had been a few years since my last visit. I suggested the this place for a nice business dinner. Time: Wednesday evening at 6PM. Location: Easy to find from the freeway. Drive slow it can be easily over looked on the busy street. Parking can be found on the street and there is a lot right next to the restaurant. Place: It is tucked away from the street compared to the other businesses. It has a beautiful front garden area. Inside it has an old red brick Italian charm. It is dimly lite with a cozy fireplace right where our party of 7 was seated. Menu/food: So many delicious options to choose from. We ordered the calamari app and it came in a white funnel paper with a metal holder and dipping sauces on the side. It was a unique presentation and everyone enjoyed it. I ordered the baked salmon with steamed veggies and rice. Wow the portion was huge cooked perfectly and was fresh. Wait staff: Was top notch our glasses were never below the half way point, we were always checked on and they made sure we all had everything we needed. It was very busy for a week night and we weren't rushed at all and we were there for almost three hours...like I said it was a business dinner. Price: I luckily don't know the total since the owner picked up the check but on average it was around $25-30 an entree, apps and dessert were $8-12. We came here to try out a new restaurant. We came here since my parents had come here years ago and wanted to see what it's like now. We left feeling "Eh" about the meal. It wasn't delicious but it wasn't the worst thing we'd eaten. We're not going to drive out of our way to come here but it was good to try something new. The decor is really nice and looks like a couple old cottages converted into a restaurant. I loved the ivy growing on the outside of the building and the outdoor seating area. Inside they have a couple rooms to rent out for events with plenty of seating for dining. We sat in the main area near the kitchen area which was nice and bright. The food was alright and the mixed drinks were not that great. I did enjoy the bread they served. The service was great though and I do say they have nice staff members. read more

Probably one of my all time favorite restaurants. I love love love this restaurant. The indoors and outdoors has a relaxing and romantic setting. It is perfect for both the winter and summer time. In the cold weathers, it feels cozy having a nice glass of red wine and enjoying your company. The food is always spectacular. There is not one dish I have had that was not less than amazing. I went here for a private party for work. When I arrived, my husband and I were greeted and walked immediately back to one of the private areas. The wine selections were great. We had a private menu but everything, including our dessert looked beautiful to our eyes and our taste buds. I will definitely go back with my husband as a little date night because I look forward to taking advantage of their pretty front patio area on a nice summer day! I hosted a party last night at Postino. Being somewhat of a novice at actually hosting a party of this magnitude in a restaurant ... I honestly had no idea how to really order and proceed. I emailed the manager and basically said here is what I want to spend all in and here is the number of folks we expect. He did the rest! I was so thankful - he pulled together a tasty menu and wine. When I arrived - I asked to speak with our server (she was phenomenal!) Cheerful and intelligent - I changed out the wines and she was all over it. They delivered a wide array of wonderful heavy apps and allowed us to hang out in our room until the last person left. It was very easy and relaxed. What stands out from the dining experience at Postino, as other reviewers have said, is the ambiance. It is a beautiful gem of a restaurant, nestled in tall bushes, like you're walking into a restaurant straight out of the hobbit. The food was good, but not striking enough to warrant five stars, and unfortunately, my take on the ambiance was a bit spoiled. I had the duck breast, while my significant other had the braised short ribs. His short ribs were amazing, while my duck breast was a bit bland. Perhaps it would have been a better experience if I had ordered the short ribs. To finish, we had the chocolate souffle, which was quite good. Another thing that seemed strange to me...we were seated in their hallway/walkway, as were other tables, which meant that there were a lot of wait staff passing by regularly, and this became a bit distracting and took away from the dining experience. Also, the hallway had very low ceilings, which gave me a claustrophobic feeling and subtracted from their overall beauty of the place. I guess it's more important for them to maximize profit by cramming in as many tables as possible. I told her it's not what I ordered and in order not to start an argument I let her be right. Know this. I know the diff between the 2. It's the atmosphere, not the food that's the real draw here. That about sums it up. Sitting by the fireplace on a rainy day for a nice lunch is what this place is all about. The bar is a throw-back to the 60' (if you ant the 50's, go around the corner to Petar's), the food adequate, but not likely to knock your socks off. They try a little too hard on some dishes (the Cesar salad in a tall glass, for example) and could lighten the dishes up a tad. But, that's not the point, you go here for atmosphere and you will be well rewarded - just don't expect to see this pl;ace get it's first Michelin Star any day soon. read more

Whenever Mom and Dad come to town, they insist on taking us to Postino. Not that that is a bad thing, mind you! Free dinner? Check. Awesome restaurant? Check. What's not to like about that? This update finds Postino in great form. The hostess did her job and even smiled. The table was fantastic. The service was friendly and professional. How about the food? Excellent. Mom and my better half wanted to start with the Vongole (Manila clams & sausage). I had a few, and they were tender and tasty. Everyone was happy. Mom thought they were incredible and sopped up most of the broth with the yummy bread that was delivered to the table. For my main, I got the Salmone with finely sliced asparagus scattered on top and a lemony sauce. Honestly, it may have been the best salmon I ever had. Cooked just right, it was juicy and so flavorful, and not raw. My foody son selected the Anatra (duck breast) and it was the hit of the evening. I would have been happy with just the spatzle and the sauce, but it came with duck too! All of us ordered desert, which is a rare occurance, but speaks volumes to how much we enjoyed dinner. Postino has a wonderfully interior designed that builds a somewhat intimate and romantic ambiance. The bar is small, yet a good place to eat and relax if they are full and you can't eat elsewhere in the restaurant. My review is based solely on the bar, so that's where I'm coming from. The drinks are very good and the service is excellent. The Frito misto is done with ground arborio rice flour and is adds a crispy texture to the sliced lemons, beans, onions and calamari. Very well executed and presented vertically in a paper cone. A good choice if you don't know what to get with drinks. The hummus, peperonata and relish with pita appetizer (postinos antipasti) is bland and tasteless. The hummus has way too much tahini and not enough garlic and lemon. The relish should have exploded with flavor but was absolutely tasteless. How you could have such an epic failure on such a basic appetizer is beyond me. The drinks are nice and cold. They have nice live music outside on weekend evenings. The bar service is great, they have a pretty good wine list. Read the other reviews for the dinners. read more

I was just there for lunch with my two children and Mom. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out, only one person said hello which was the lady who showed us to our table. The waitress hardly smiled and was not personable at all! I was waiting for our experience to get better but it did not. The lunch menu is quite limited. I ordered the salad verde with grilled chicken for 8 dollars more. What I got was romaine and a spring mix with cubed chicken...That was it. No tomato, no cucumber, no croutons, no cheese etc. For $18, I thought I was ordering a decent salad but I was very disappointed when it came out. I gave this 2 stars since I really liked the location. Lafayette is awesome and I wish we had a better experience here :( read more

I'd much rather have a burger from In n Out.. There was a waiter who was extremely attentive and definitely worked his toosh off! Because it was Valentines Day, the restaurant was extremely busy. The servers were running around like madmen/women. Service was minimal; our server was very busy but still nice. Nonetheless, we had a great time. Our two appetizers to start were perfect. The caesar salad was extra yum. The freshly grated parmesan with the garlic bread stick atop the crisp romaine lettuce was a nice start. We were impressed with the mussels as well. The white wine sauce was well prepared and tasty enough to drink. Both of the entrees were excellent and highly recommended. The chicken was crisply roasted yet moist inside. The portobello mushroom fries were so amazing. I would go back and order the mushrooms by itself if I could. My bff and I ate half of our entrees and switched. The short ribs were extremely tender and came right off the bone. It was atop a cheese polenta, which tasted exactly like cheesy mashed potatoes. The short ribs were very rich. The first thing you notice upon entering is a sign at the door that alerts you about the possible lack of seismic safety of the building! I was surprised... However, the restaurant is beautiful inside as well as the patio section. Although from outside it looks like a very plush special occasion restaurant, after eating there a couple of times, you will find out that it actually is a very comfortable neighborhood restaurant with good food, and average service. I had one of the best dining experiences I have ever had at Postino's this past week for dinner with 4 friends. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and comfortable, everyone who works here is super nice and polite, and the food is seriously delicious. Appetizers: - Cantaloupe and honeydew with prosciutto: This was one of the specials for the night, and since we love fruit, we tried it. The melon was sweet and refreshing, and the cracked pepper on top made the dish very interesting. - Frutti: "peaches with housemade vanilla bean scented ricotta cheese, mache, olive oil, toasted almonds and some really good salt." AMAZING and genius appetizer. Who ever though of putting these ingredients together? The peaches were perfectly ripe and very sweet, and the vanilla bean ricotta was out of this world. Together? Mind blowing. - Schiacciata: "Forno-baked flat bread with prosciutto di parma, crescenza cheese, white truffle oil and wild arugula." This was probably my favorite dish of the night, and I would come back here just for this appetizer. It was so flavorful and with the perfect texture--toasty and crispy on the outisde, and warm, soft, and chewy on the inside. Absolutely delicious. Entrees: - Rigatoni: "Tube shaped pasta with sautéed chicken, roasted roma tomatoes, basil, extra virgin olive oil,garlic, wild arugula and pecorino cheese." This was my order, but this dish was good, but nothing extremely special. The chicken was breaded and cooked to juicy perfection. - Gnocchi: "Basil pesto potato dumplings in a rustic tomato sauce with onions, bell peppers, garlic, and parmesan reggiano." I'm not a huge fan of gnocchi, but this was definitely one of the better gnocchi dishes I have tried (probably because of the basil pesto, which I love). - Coda di Bue: "Brasato of short ribs atop provolone polenta with onions, english peas and veal reduction." My friend who got this RAVED about it. He said it was perfectly cooked to the point where the meat was practically falling off the bone, and he would get this again and again in the future. - Agnello: "Grilled lamb sirloin over risotto primavera- asparagus, fava beans, fava leaves and spring mushrooms, finished with taggiasca olive oil and baby herbs." This one was also a winner. The meat was tender, perfectly pink, and juicy. Dessert: We all split a whole bunch of different desserts from the menu: cherry bombe, pineapple tart, warm chocolate souffle cake, and the cookie plate. All of it beautiful. All of it delicious. An extra plus about this place is that they try to be very sustainable and buy from local farmers. I feel like this restaurant is always trying new things and trying to make something fantastic even better, which is exciting. Overall, an amazing and delicious dinner with great food, great service, and great company. Postino is AMAZING!!! We recently hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner here and were thoroughly blown away with both the food and the service! Our guests stayed in Oakland, but when seeking a location with a private room, it seemed that Oakland location options were either really limited or really over-priced. We had expected Postino's pricing to be out of reach for our budget but found that it was surprisingly competitive, and the short drive to Lafayette was WELL worth it. Our guests left saying that it was perhaps the best rehearsal dinner that they had ever been to. Thank you Postino for helping make our night carefree and enjoyable. Highly recommended!! read more

Fav Spot! Come here multiple times throughout the year. The food is always tasty and the wine is superb. Calamari is always a hit as well as any steak dish served. Let's not forget about the simple treat, house made butter and fresh bread!!! (Drooling) multiple baskets are requested at each visit. I think the main appeal to this place is it has a very nice atmosphere. It's has an old-world feel style. It's a brick building with this nice vine all over it. Inside, has a bit of a wine-cellar feel to it. There's a nice bar. open kitchen, the ceiling is made of glass so you get a lot of sunlight, etc, etc, etc... Anyways, fancy looking Italian restaurant. The staff have almost to a man been there for a long time so the feeling is that it's a great team and a great place to work. that makes it in turn fun to eat there. Their Burrata is a phenomenal as are the papardelle, but really, all the dishes are excellent. Their wine selection is also very comprehensive and it's great to just have a night sitting at the bar, snacking and drinking. On warmer summer nights the fire pit outside is phenomenal. I had the prawns and scallops ($30). The predominent taste was the angry pesto sauce followed by very salty quinoa. I wasn't impressed. My wife had the pheasant. It was a bit of a challange to eat, since it was new to her. We were flanked on both sides with two families with young kids. Needless to say, it wasn't the atmosphere we hoped for. When we passed on dessert, our waiter returned with a free dessert for my wife. That was nice. With prices in the $30 range per person, the food and atmosphere need to be great, and it was a bit of a miss that night. The overall atmosphere was very nice. Had an awesome lunch today on the outside patio with three friends. The waiter and busser were perfect! Chose a nice glass of Italian wine for me and did a great job describing items on the menu. All of us enjoyed our meals. Loved the minestrone soup prepared with green tomatoes. I had the rabbit garganelli. It was very fresh, flavorful and surprisingly light. The vongole was also very good. Wife and I went here for an anniversary dinner and couldn't have picked a better spot. The atmosphere was very charming, the wait staff was very attentive, and the food was fantastic. We started with a glass of wine and a beer in the very small bar. The wine selection seemed very good and had several nice choices by the glass. Went to our table, and our waiter, Brian, quickly showed up to run us through the menu and some of their specialties and favorites on the menu. We order the Fritto appetizer (deep fried calamari and shrimp) which were very good. For dinners, we ordered the yellowfin tuna and the short ribs. Both were excellent and highly recommended. We ended with the Chrisp of the Day, which ended up being a nectarine and blueberry chrisp, which we sharred and both very much enjoyed. In listening to the patrons around us interacting with the staff, I would say there are many regulars to this resturant, and many high end luxury cars in the valet service. People with that kind of disposable income don't continue to visit a restuarant unless it has excellent service, food and attention to detail. read more
