Some positive aspects are ample parking and large tables for group gatherings. Beautifully decorated hot spot location on Long Island with a shared parking lot. The staff are very friendly and the bubble tea we ordered was delicious! The sauce bar has a lot to choose from but is on the way to the bathroom, so sometimes a line builds up. I especially appreciated the high quality chopsticks because sometimes the types you snap off at restaurants are prickly. My favorite hotpot restaurant!!! From the outside it may not look too appealing but once you walk inside it's beautifully decorated. They have a make your own sauce bar with recipes of recommended combinations. I like to mix sesame seed oil, sugar, soy sauce, garlic, and chili peppers to make mine. We got multiple combo 1's which comes with a variety of meats and veggies. With a herbal soup base and a hot butter base. I recommend not getting anything spicy past mild unless you can really handle spicy food since it's oil based. BEST FIND - Potasia is one on my best finds in 2022. I am glad I found this. I would highly recommend this place for groups. The restaurant has 3 variety of soup bases mostly pork based and trust me there are DELICIOUS and very limited options for vegetarian. The sides like peanuts, scallions, cilantro, sesame seeds, sauces, garlic on the dedicated section and it is unlimited. They have ton of meat options and my personal favorite is dumplings . She, of course, found Potasia. It is a clean, spacious place with large comfortable booths. Each table has individual hot pots. You choose your pot of broth, choose your protein and assorted vegetables and noodles, let them cook in the broth and enjoy. The food is a la carte. The broths are very tasty and can be customized to taste. There are vegetarian options and an extensive dipping sauce bar. There are set menus for lunch and dinner. If you are looking for a different kind of a food experience, just step right up! If you have never been here or to a hotpot place it can be confusing but I will try to break it down simply. The tables have heating elements and you order a soup and raw ingredients to cook in it. Order a small for one person and just so you know, the spicy soup is hellishly hot if you order the medium! Like so hot, it makes you cough, sweat and cry. Anyway I'm glad that I did not order that but my son did and liked it! After deciding on the right soup, you get to pick your ingredients. There are so many to chose from and it is very easy to over order. I got the vegetable platter which had cabbage, spinach, potato, carrot and bok choy. This could have easily fed 2-4 people depending on what else was ordered. I didn't know that each order was going to be gigantic so I also ordered yam, frozen tofu, tofu puffs and hand pulled noodles. I thought each was going to be one serving and I was dead wrong!! My son ordered beef, chicken, ramen and dumplings. There were quite a few very interesting things on the menu but we just couldn't order any more than we did. This was enough food for 6 people! The waitress must have been laughing inside when we ordered all of that! So while you wait for everything to come, you go to the back and make up your sauces. There is a whole wall of ingredients! They have 3 "recipes" you can follow to make different kinds of sauce. Spicy, hot & sweet etc. which are a jumping off point. I made the hot & sweet one, a vinegar based one and a peanut sauce with scallions. They also have some things that you can have as an appetizer. So you cook and eat, cook and eat. When your soup put gets low, they fill it up again. My favorite things were the bok choy, spinach, noodles, the frozen tofu and the tofu puffs although I wouldn't get both tofu's next time unless I was there with a bunch more people. The dumplings were good and so were the ramen noodles which were called egg noodles on the menu. I would definitely revisit Potasia and be much smarter about ordering! read more

I was visiting some friends on Long Island on a Sunday night and we decided to give this hot pot restaurant a shot. Nassau has zero options for hot pot so I got excited to try it. Restaurant is colorful and has cute decor. Had some pop music playing inside. You definitely have to call in advance for a reservation because the seating is somewhat limited. Also, it's not All You Can Eat. You have to individually pay for each of your ingredients, which can be very pricey if you order a lot of them. Wasn't a fan of $5.99 for half an ear of corn. Now as for the ingredients, they all tasted good for the most part. Udon Noodles were my personal favorite. The corn was nice and sweet. I also loved the fish and beef balls. Tofu was tasty. The Sliced Beef and Lamb were okay (not great). Shrimp Dumplings - pass. These tasted off. As for the broth base, unfortunately the spicy mild broth was pretty underwhelming. The spices overpowered the broth and it didn't have much flavor other than the spice. I would say if you can't handle spicy, avoid it. Considering that this broth is mild, it really should not be that spicy! The service left much to be desired. We were brought over beef tripe, though we did not order this, and our mussels were never brought to the table. We told the server that these were not mussels. The server tried to convince us that it was seafood! We told him we never ordered this. Then he later told us that it was beef tripe and it was taken off our bill. However, the mussels didn't come to our table. Very disappointing. Considering the price point and quality, I still prefer hot pot restaurants like Spring Shabu Shabu in NYC. I suppose this gives an experience of what hot pot is like, though a weak one at best. If you're going to advertise yourself as the "first" hot pot restaurant on LI, then your product and service better be extraordinary. You would think? Great Hot Pot Experience! This is my favorite hot pot place. It's perfect for a hot day. I enjoy the hot and spicy butter soup and my friend enjoyed her tomato broth. My favorite thing to cook are the bean curd skins, omg, so good. The lamb and beef combo is good, the meat is fatty, which I love. I like the pork dumplings better than the shrimp dumplings, but both r good. The shrimp paste is so yummy and so are the crab sticks. I also love that they have measurements on how to make different types of sauces at the sauce bar. I love the dim lighting, the seating feels private, and it's always clean. I would have given this place 5 stars but to be honest with you, with their prices ... I just couldn't. The portions aren't big for the price but the fact that their customer service is spot on and the sauces are delicious, I'll come back for more. Side note ... What a delicious hot pot meal! What is "hot pot" you ask? Hotpot, also known as steamboat, is a Chinese cooking method, prepared with a simmering pot of soup stock at the dining table. At potasia, each person gets their own hotpot. The process is simple. You chose your spice level, broth, and then protein, carbs and veggies. Each add-in is priced accordingly. They offer three different levels of spice. Spicy, medium spicy and extra spicy. I chose a spicy chicken broth with sliced chicken, udon noodles, spinach, tofu and pork dumplings. Once everything comes out, you can put things in your pot. Just don't do everything at once because you will overwhelm the pot. My hotpot was tasty, but not at all spicy. Not even a hint of spice. There is a "spice" bar. You can visit it as often as you like. There are different spices, both dry and saucy. If going with a group, I highly recommend getting a few things and then sharing your add-ins together. Overall, it was a yummy experience. For the first time having pot i was a little uneasy going into it. I made my way out to Hicksville, NY with mixed feelings. The first thing you notice when you open the door is the smell. absolutely devine. I said to the people i was with. "This seems promising." So me and the group discovered the Buffet if you will and we made a plate for ourselves. The problem is it's in Flushing and sometimes you just don't want to drive out that far! I was happy to finally see a hot pot place in LI. I told my fiancée we have to check it out. No menu online but thought that's okay I know what to expect. Not too many customers so we were seated right away. $4.99 for the broth, I went with mild spicy and wow way to spicy! The issue I had is all I tasted was spice no deep flavors just spicy. I like my broth spicy and flavorful which I did not get. They had to take my broth back to the kitchen I don't know what they added but it came back less spicy but still lacked flavor. Two of our friends had their tomato base the only vegetarian option. Their mushroom broth contains pork bone. They really enjoyed their broth. This place was pretty pricey as everything is a la carte. So for 4.99 you get broth and everything else is an add on. Except for the sauces which are included, peanuts, cucumbers and cantaloupe. The two small soups and our add on options of veggies, noddles and 1 order of beef came out to 85 dollars no alcohol. I don't mind paying top dollars for an amazing meal but all I received was a bland spicy broth. I won't be back. At Spring Shabu Shabu you pay 16.99 but all the veggies, noodles, eggs, dessert and etc are unlimited and included. The only thing you pay extra for is seafood and meats. We were super excited to go to long island's first hot pot joint!! We came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't super packed which was awesome. It took a few minutes for someone to attend to us when we entered, as the waitresses were also the entrance hostesses. Once we got to our table, we got our menus and were really pleased with the variety and prices (wait for it). My husband and I ordered the spicy broth, mild, and my sister ordered the milky pork bone broth. We also ordered shrimp, shrimp paste, sliced beef, fish cakes, puff tofu, broccoli, potatoes, green mung bean noodles, cabbage, enoki and wood ear mushrooms, and rice. They mentioned having some free apps and a sauce bar in the back, which we scoured and enjoyed the variety of sauces, but the apps weren't really apps, they were seasoned cucumbers, salted peanuts, oranges, and snap peas. Overall, the food was really great, an excellent swap if you're in LI and while I would certainly go back, there were a few things that made this place lose a star. -subpar service, no one had come to check on us after we got our broth add ins, and if we needed anything extra like extra broth when our pots were running low, we had to flag the waiters down. In addition, there was no one in the front of the restaurant when we came in. -similar to previous reviews, the prices did end up being steeper than flushing. For three of us, after tip, our bill was over $160. A comparable meal in flushing with the same add ins typically won't cost us more than $100-120 including tip, and the portion sizes were also smaller than other hot pot places we are used to. BUT all that being said, the broth was flavourful, seafood and meat was so fresh and delish, you could tell they used high quality ingredients, and another huge plus was a clean restroom. I've tried a few of the broths. All except the vegetarian are pork bone broth. You can get it spicy, spicy butter, or plain. There's also a tomato broth I've not yet tried. My go to is the spicy butter. I can handle heat, but I get the mild spicy broths and it's plenty hot. The meats are fresh and presented beautifully. Decor is nice and the place is very clean. Located right off South Oyster Bay Road in the heart of Hicksville, Potasia gives the residents of Long Island a viable option without having to trek into Queens to get their hot pot fix. The decor is really nice - very classic and retro Chinese. They have both individual pot and communal pots for dining so you get to choose. Broth choices are numerous - pork bone broth, spicy mala, spicy mala made with beef fat, tomato and more. The pork bone was subtle and a bit creamy, perfect for those that like light flavors. The tomato was tangy and light, really flavorful. The spicy mala was very spicy but had a deep flavor profile. There's no sauce bar here. They pre-make their sauces here and you get 3 choices - universal (mostly sesame paste and nutty flavor), sweet sesame and hot and spicy (really hot and spicy with a bit of vinegar - excellent). It's a bit of a bummer that you can't make your own but the ones they give you are really good. Meat and seafood here was fresh. Veggies here were also very fresh. Service here was decent. Prices are probably a bit higher than Queens but its worth it when you're the only option within 20 miles. Also, it's a la carte so there's no AYCE option. As an avid lover of Flushing hotpot, I've been struggling this whole pandemic to satisfying my craving! Stumbled upon this place as it allows for indoor dining, being in Long Island. Definitely make reservations ahead of time so you can get the side tables with one fire! The waitress was nice to seat us but advised that we make reservations the next time. They have all the hotpot staples, duck blood, shrimp paste, beef/lamb etc. Since we couldn't get one large pot, we got two individual pots to share, one pork bone and the other hot butter soup, medium spicy.
