My friends and I have come here a few times within the past couple of months, and we like this location a lot. The staff is always nice and helpful, and for the most part, it's been pretty clean. Some stickiness here and there, but they always notice or clean when told about it. The last time we came here, a customer was screaming on the top of his lungs about how bad customer service was. He was being derogatory and told a Latino worker to go back to his country. It was awful. I'm mentioning this because although that specific worker argued back with the customer (for justified reasons), the other 3 workers on his team tried to de-escalate the situation to get the man to leave the store with his food. After 10 minutes of the guy yelling, they were able to get the guy to leave. Once he left, the workers were great friends and coworkers to the guy who was targeted and had him go on his break to cool down. It was nice to see them taking care of their team. Foodwise, I have never been disappointed with my sandwiches. I usually order an Italian sub and the ingredients have always tasted fresh and delicious. I've been frustrated the past couple times I've came here. I just come for Mac and cheese yet, everytime it's a different consistency. I don't think I should request that Mac should be made fresh, but these past three times it's clearly been dried out from sitting in a pot awhile. The Potbelly Schaumburg location continues to amaze me as they really strive for quality. When I do visit this location I always get a top notch sandwich that tastes really good and is made perfectly the way I order it! Service is always really good too. The sandwich techs really put a lot care into making their creations correctly and tasty. It's a simple thing to make sandwiches but you'd be amazed how many places get it wrong. It's my first time got Potbelly sandwich after consistent recommended by my friend for almost a year. Got the Turkey sub. You can select the sauce & customize toppings if needed. Honestly I think it definitely tastes better than Subway. I felt clean and healthy after eating the sub. However, I wanted to knock out one star because it's not cheap. Great experience at this Potbelly Sandwich shop near Woodfield Mall. Manager Alex took great care of me during last visit! I had a question and he handled the situation very professionally. Potbelly makes great subs which begin with an excellent sub roll which is a partially baked roll that gets finished baking when they make your sandwich they use quality meats and vegetables to make your sandwich and the fresh bread is great and unique. Every sandwich is great. There. I get A Wreck mostly. But love all their different ones. Excellent soup and chili shakes and peppers. Potbelly's has finally opened near my work! Woohoo! My coworkers and I checked it out for lunch yesterday and it seems the word has spread very quickly of it's opening as it was packed to the brim! Most of the workers at this location are awesome! I especially liked the super friendly bearded guy who greets patrons and takes their initial orders in line. Some workers were a bit aloof but it was super busy and I get it. The line got extremely long while we were dining and at one point, I saw a group of 5 guys walk out due to the wait. They must not know about their promise of "8 minutes through the line MAX". Potbelly's food is always yummy and I love that they have some sandwich options under 350 calories which doesn't make me feel horrible & gross for eating out. Yesterday I had their mushroom melt skinny for 348 calories which hit the spot. Also love their ham & cheese skinny. Potbelly's has some of the best friggin shakes and I ended up bringing one back to a coworker. I love that Potbelly's has live music while dining. Nothing gets me quite like a man playing acoustic on his guitar (cue: More Than Words). This location needs more tables though! For the amount of people coming through here, there simply are not enough tables and there is space to add some. Plus, all tables are up to 4 people max with just one table that seats 8 people. My lunch crew is 5-8 people on any given day and we had to sit in two separate tables yesterday due to no other seating. Sad. Probably the best thing about this location is the drive thru! Stopped in for a sandwich for my fiance. Upon seeing a promotion, I got a chocolate malt, & she got a strawberry shake. Her sandwich was an original TTL. Everything was tasty! Sadly, we were overcharged. There was an advertisement poster in the order line. We saw "$2.49 for a short shake". We ordered shakes because of this. On our receipt the price rang up at $2.89. We questioned about the price and the lady behind the counter pointed to the board, which showed $2.89. Well ok, but, we went back and picked up the small poster advertising the shakes for $2.49. She took it and threw it out, giving us no explanation, or, price change. You would think they would honor the advertised price. The poster was right where you start your order. Be careful when saying yes to hot peppers on your sandwich. Though this is the first time we had Potbelly in several years, we figured there would be a few hot peppers sprinkled on. Not so. Both sandwiches in our order had so many we couldn't escape them. It seemed like they poured them on because the sandwiches were filled with peppers and seeds and the bread tops were soaked in pepper juice...so much so we had to stop eating them because we got nauseous. Service is horrible. We have ordered a few times from this location and will not give them another try. They continually mix up the order and just the most recent example dropped off a bag with two bottles of water, for and order that was over $100 worth of food. They couldn't even address that situation, so we had to send someone to go pick it up. I would avoid this location if you like Potbelly food, they don't do a good job and cant even help you out when there's an issue. If you happen to wait for someone to answer during normal business hours, often the phone just goes dead. Not a good experience there at all. read more

I give this a three star rating for the reason of the drive through. Let's go over their good traits first. They have quality food and they always zip the line. It's fast and friendly. I like their hearty salads and, my favorite, the turkey regular sized sandwich on wheat. The cons: every time I go through the drive thru, it's always during lunch time, so it's busy. But, I can't eat any other time. So when I ask for "add pickle" or something that's different, they only include what I wanted additional. So I tried another way. I would say I want everything with easy mustard and pickle. I would then get a sandwich with only mustard and pickle. It's weird. Instead of saying "everything" on your sandwich, you have to literally tell them everything you want. It's not that it's a big deal, but I would love to know the secret message to getting my food right when I go through the drive thru. Had the rudest experience at this potbelly's. They are so unorganized. I was waiting for my shake at the end and I was waiting in-front of the cash register and the rude manager with the glasses and sass was rudely like "can I help you?" First the lady making the sandwiches before they go into the toaster picked up something from the floor twice and didn't change her gloves before continuing to make customer's sandwiches. Eww. Ordered a Turkey Avo and Vitamin water and that is exactly what I got...Turkey on multigrain with cucumber, Swiss, avocado...no one of the additional toppings I asked for: tomato, lettuce, mustard, Italian seasoning...none of that. This place is hit-or-miss, but when you hit... yum! The Big is split into two halves, so you can eat one and save the other for later.... or just eat 'em both right away. It's a little bit smaller than a Subway footlong but much more delicious and better quality. Their sandwiches keep you FULL. My favorite so far is the Turkey Big on multi-grain thin-cut bread loaded with veggies and, sometimes, cheese. It'll run you about $6.50 after tax, which I think is completely fair (even a bargain), considering Subway hiked their prices a few months ago, and I don't think you can get a footlong for less than that anymore. The drive-thru here is killer -- avoid it at all costs. My friends have taken me through it a couple times, and it was always painstakingly slow and resulted in incorrect orders. It's completely worth battling through any ounce of laziness you're feeling to make sure your food is correct. "Hangry" is my least favorite emotion; discovering my food is wrong when I'm about to eat it, most likely miles from Potbelly... No, thank you! Long-story-short, good food. Order inside. I ordered my favorite sandwich through drive thru as a pick me up around 7 pm on the way to Ikea. My favorite sandwich is an Italian on wheat/flat bread, no cheese, with ranch, hot peppers, lettuce, extra pickle, and seasoning. Generally, it comes out the same, regardless, but this time it was... disastrous I ordered it on flatbread, and ingredients rained down onto my shirt as I tried to eat my sandwich, even though it was still "wrapped" with just one end exposed for me to bite. It was like lettuce was raining inside my car, for invisible rabbits to nibble on. Since I get both ranch and hot peppers, my fav sandwich has a definite flavor profile and kick. As I bit into the sandwich of disappointment... it was just soggy, and disappointing. I tasted no ranch (and every time I've ever this sandwich, some ranch comes out and the sandwich "juice" is white because of it), and the juices that leaked out smelled like pickle and pickle only. It was like I was chewing on day old soggy cardboard that had been left out in the rain. It was not only "not good," it is one of the most disgusting things I've ever eaten in my entire life. I'm not sure how you screw up an Italian, but they did it. They completely ruined the Italian for me - now whenever I think of my favorite sandwich, I'm just reminded of the tastes of failure and disappointment. The next time I try an "Italian" - I'll make it at home. I actually haven't been back to Potbelly since, because it hasn't been convenient, and while I can't picture myself ever getting the Italian again, I'd get something else. I also would have written in to corporate, but because I forgot to that night, it's been so long that I don't have any specifics (and even that night, I couldn't have told you how they messed up my sandwich, just that it tasted BAD when there's no reason it should have). The food is good but If you use the Mobil ordering option thinking that it's easier and quicker think again. I place an order at 11:00AM for pickup at Noon. It's was for two sandwiches. Got there at noon expecting to grab my bag but it wasn't ready. Not only that but it wasn't even started. I finally got my order at 12:15 and while 15 minutes late didn't sound like a lot. It is when you have a limited amount of time for lunch. It turns out that if I had gotten in line at noon I would have had my order done and out the door before the mobile order was even ready. Oh dear. I'd been waiting to write this review, first because I love Potbelly's...seriously love them, and second because I have never had a bad experience at any other location and was hoping the Schaumburg location would turn things around before I wrote this. We've been here almost weekly since they opened. I honestly don't know why. I am not a glutton for punishment or crappy service or for paying for the wrong food, yet, I continue to visit. Maybe, again, because I keep hoping "this" time, they'll get it right. Well, they got it wrong yet again this weekend and I'm a little more than irritated now. In the last 6 visits here throughout the last 4-6 weeks, they have gotten it wrong 6 times. Usually it's because they never get the mushroom melt skinny right - extra mushroom. It seems pretty simple (I worked food service for over 5 years throughout HS and college, hence my opinion on simple). Put EXTRA mushrooms on top of the usual portion you dole out. Yet, I keep paying extra for the SAME amount of regular-portion mushrooms every time. But sometimes it's not just the mushroom melt...I've also received a completely different sandwich from what I ordered (i.e., my skinny hammie on regular bread was replaced with a TKY skinny on mult-grain...too bad I was on the way to the airport before I could do anything about it). We emailed them after the 4th time, and received a wonderfully apologetic, handwritten card in the mail, along with 2 vouchers for free sandwiches. How great is that? Well, it would be great, if then, the next two times when we used the vouchers, they wouldn't repeat the same exact mistake which got us the vouchers in the first place. But, yes, sure enough the next two extra mushroom skinnys did not have extra mushroom, and the last one ordered Saturday, seemed to have not even the normal amount of mushroom. I should also mention that we always use the drivethrough. Perhaps it'd be a different experience to actually come in and order and watch them make the sandwich, but our orders are usually for lunchtime when we're in a hurry...which leads me to the next issue - Why am I always in line for more than 10 minutes in the drivethrough, even when I'm the only one there? If you have a drivethrough - shouldn't service be expedited a bit...or at least the expectation be that it's quicker service? Or am I missing something? Should I anticipate at least a 10-15 minute wait even in the drivethrough? Because last Saturday, when I received the less-than-the-normal-amount of mushroom in my 'extra-mushroom-mushroom-melt' order, I was the ONLY person in line, yet I waited with my car idling at the drivethrough counter just waiting and waiting for more than 10 minutes. Even the drivethrough cashier was irritated. I heard her ask about my one-sandwich order a few times, and then saw her walk over to check on it herself. When it was finally ready, she apologized sincerely (having noted I was paying with a "you-screwed-up-my-order-voucher") and I appreciated her apology for the wait. I did not appreciate that my order was wrong...again. Btw - I like to think I'm not only the only one experiencing issues. The time before this, last week, the car in front of me was also paying with the "you-screwed-up-my-order-voucher"...I saw her hand it over (because we were stuck in the drivethrough for an eternity again...and I was blaming her for the wait wondering what the heck she ordered, but I'm prone to believe it's the Potbelly's Schaumburg service now). Potbelly's in Schaumburg was like a dream since it's like a location in our backyard...add to that the drivethrough option and we just couldn't wait for it to open. Now it's more of a bad dream. Still, can't give a Potbelly's a one-star, so I'll give them 2, and hope that if I do make my way back here, they'll get it right sometime. Our kids are in SD54 schools and Potbelly's Schaumburg helped fundraise for SD54 activities when they first opened. I was hoping to give them a lot more business because I appreciate them giving back to the community. But honestly, it's a tad ridiculous that they just can't seem to get it right - at least for us. It's a chain/franchise restaurant, and one that we frequent (usually in Rolling Meadows or in Chicago-University Village, without issue). Hope they can turn it around, but I won't likely be visiting Schaumburg's again anytime soon. read more
