I haven't had a Potbelly sandwich in a really long time. I've been eyeing this location and finally had a chance to try today. Everyone was friendly when I came in. The menu is extensive and I've always loved all the toppings you can add. The sandwich was great. Maybe next time, I'll get a soup or a milkshake. The space is really convenient for downtown. I love the casual yet modern vibe of the cafe. I love the country cafe type of feeling as well. The customer service has always been good as well. As a Vegetarian, I always have the veggie melt sandwich with added toppings. The sandwich is always full of flavor and toasted to perfection. I also enjoy the Mac and Cheese. Service at this location is shockingly terrible. I say "shockingly" because they are within walking distance of several hospitals, and after sitting in my mother's hospital room being told she is going to die, the last thing I am worried about is carefully reading signage. When I attempted to pay, the cashier gave me a rude look and abruptly told me We don't accept cash. No explanation, no courtesy. I stepped out of line, went to get my credit card, and returned. When I reached the front again, nothing had changed--same attitude, same unwillingness to help, and she seemed visibly annoyed by any questions. I understand policies exist, but there is absolutely no excuse for treating customers with such coldness and disrespect, especially in an area where people are often already dealing with extremely difficult situations. Great sandwiches! Our sandwiches were nicely toasted and full of great flavors. My friend was craving a ham and Swiss and I went for the chicken club with cheddar. I thought the cheddar was going to be weird, but it was great. I opted for a small handful of the hot peppers on my "big" sub and it added a nice, manageable kick. I love a good sandwich, but the steakhouse beef I had was at best "meh". It really didn't seem to have very much meat, i could see a little bit hanging out the sides, but it was definitely overpowered by the veggies and condiments. Likewise, the flavor was dominated by the blue cheese and never really tasted like anything else. The restaurant itself was very nice, not busy for time (around 5 o'clock), but it did look like they had several to-go orders. So although it felt a little slow to be served, it wasn't because they weren't busy. There was only two working at the time and they seemed to be busy keeping up with orders. I'm in town for the week and will probably give them another shot as there were some other items on the menu that looked good, I just didn't care for the one I chose. Actually, 3.5 stars. While I've always enjoyed chicken salad sandwiches at potbelly (I get chicken salad, sometimes with cheese, grilled, then add tomatoes, pickles and hot peppers), I have to admit that paying $14.66 for a large chicken salad sandwich (including tax and a 10% tip) seems excessive. Not long ago, at the same store, a regular sized chicken salad sandwich sold for $5.99. And there is no way that the big sandwich was twice the size of the standard sandwich (at least not the one I got). So, I like the convenience and quality (far better than Subway or Quiznos), but it's not a terribly healthy meal, and for the price, quite expensive. It's handy if you're at Swedish (First Hill), but not an easy place to visit if you aren't paying for parking (on-street parking was nearly non-existent, and that was on a Sunday). read more

Great place for lunch! I would recommend! This place is little pricey compared to the other places near by but I would only eat here. It's clean and somewhat fast! But if you come right when everyone else is on lunch the line gets big. I've never been to a pot belly before this was my first experience and I've ordered a few sandwiches. Only one time they messed up my sandwich by putting blue cheese but I ended up coming back and they gave me a free sandwich which was really nice. I always get the roast beef, adding avocado. This was my second visit to a Potbelly Shop, different location but all of the same quality and service. This time I selected the Pizza Melt, and WOW did it deliver! Lots of meat on this one, including smashed meatballs, which somehow had enough flavour to stand up with the deli meats and sauce. What a great combination of ingredients, including mushroom, that really channeled a pizza for me. The marinara sauce has a nice balance of tart and sweet, and was generously poured over the sandwich before heating. Nice gooey mozzarella kinda reined in the other goodies, but definitely grab a few napkins, cuz it's a bit of a gusher to eat walking. I added hot peppers to give a little tart and spicy pop, and they weren't too spicy to the point of distraction. Like everything else, it's a lovely balance that left me satisfied all around. The place is spotless, well lit for daytime eating, and the servers were all courteous and friendly, making me feel invited and welcome there. In short another big winner for me. The food is always good. I did the app order at 11:00am for the wreck sandwich and chicken put pie soup combo. I selected a time of 1:00pm. I get there it is not ready. I waited and never asked if I could get help or even acknowledged. I had to walk up to the counter and ask...where my order was. The person said we would get trigger to it and it depended on what time the order was placed. Lol. 30min later I got my food. This is horrible service to have a online system saying it would be ready at 1:00pm and have to wait 30min! I am updating this to 3 star. I was emailed by one of the district managers and promised some giftcards. It has been over a month. Now I have been going here quite often. The wait times were good until last week. Again my order was not ready, but understood they were busy. This was a better interaction. They apologized and it only took a couple minutes after. One thing is that the food is great here. I'm not sure how to put this but here goes.... I have literally bought food at this place just so I could use their restroom. Fine. There it is. I've said it. One of the best semi-public restrooms on first hill! Don't get too excited- the restroom is only for customers. And even then, you have to be polite and decent to get the secret restroom code of the day. (Seriously, they change the code every day.) But if you are a nice polite person looking for some delicious lunch and a clean well stocked restroom - this is your place! I've come here quite a few times over the past couple of years. Each time it's pretty much the same great experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They ask about my day genuinely and give great suggestions of add-one to the menu. For example pickles. I would never have thought to add dill pickle slices to a meatball sandwich. But people do and after trying it- I have to say it's downright delightful! I have a hard time eating meatball subs without dill pickles now. They make that much of a difference being a sweet but tangy flavor to the already savory sandwich. I also love how consistent this place is. No doubt it's a service quality benchmark with each restaurant in the chain. But when you walk into a Potbelly Restaurant Los Angeles or Seattle, you know it's going to be the same great taste and dining experience.... the staff is going to make you feel like a valued regular and the meal will be delicious and satisfying. This place is to subway what target is to Walmart. It's better but it's still a corporate sandwich chain. I'd still prefer it to subway tho. The sides are pretty decent and specialty sandwiches are creative and pretty decent. And the soups are pretty good too. I like the avo Turkey and the chicken club. The sandwich is WAY less industrial than Subway, and I think I liked this food even better than Corner Bakery in the Los Angeles area. Super easy to spot along Madison, thanks to their bright sign. The layout is pretty straight forward, you get in line and pick your sandwich, and move down the counter to build your sandwich. I like their menu and felt they had decent selection of items. I went with the A Wreck sandwich, it was packed full of meat and had nice crispy bread. The prices were decent and service was ok. Wow so glad a nurse recommended this place! It sounds like you can even have it delivered to the hospital. Decor is great staff was all friendly and they have signs up letting customers know if you are disabled or have small children just ask for help. Everything is made pretty clear on how ordering works and what options you have. It was hard to pick something everything sounded good!
