I'm not one for chain-sandwich places. I'm a Jersey girl where family-owned delis are on every street corner. I grew up with fresh sandwiches made from guys who learned the craft from their fathers and the fathers before them. But I've gotta admit, the owner of the Potbelly franchise must have grown up in a deli or at least appreciated them before taking on the task of creating a reputable chain of sandwich restaurants. The aura of all Potbelly restaurants is down-home American and old-fashioned, and classy in it's own way. From the wall decor to the hand-chalked menus, Potbelly knows how to make you feel like you're in that quaint corner deli. Plus, the service is always great. I've only ever had the chicken salad sandwich with provolone, and it's delicious (add pickles for amazingness). My man loves the pepperoni sandwich. It's saved his life. The broccoli cheddar soup is out of this world, way better than Panera's very similar version. The cookies are a must, and I've heard the shakes are great too. As Yelp so conveniently puts, "Yay! MOLD-This review is just for this one time that I had a bad experience. I only have a 30 min lunch so I have to be fast. I ordered my sandwich and when I got to work I opened the paper only to realize that my bread had mold growing on it :( I love Pot Bellys there sandwiches, there shakes,there cookies I just really wish someone would have been a little more careful and noticed it. Much like any average Potbelly, but no soda fountain. Great location, very near both the Majestic and AFI theaters, in the very heart of downtown Silver Spring. I had a tuna sandwich with hot peppers and was delighted - it was delicious, and my leftovers were the same hours later. Would definitely be back and eat there again. Inexpensive ($4.44 total for the tuna) is a big plus in an area somewhat lacking in real budget eating options. read more

I'm merely giving 2 stars because I liked the food. And taking off 3 stars because of the unfriendly associates that they employ. As we approached the ordering section, the associate didn't even greet us. She just asked "what you want today?" When we ordered, we asked for cheese and onions on our chili soup. The cashier just poured chili and put it on our tray. When I asked for cheese and onions, she seemed bothered and mumbled in her mouth and took away our chili to put cheese and ONION. when she came back, she only put cheese in there. Ymmmm I asked if its ok to get onion too! And she was more bothered so I told her don't worry about it. Tables are always so dirty that we have to clean it on our own before sitting. Mac n cheese was unbelievable! Very creamy and well cooked, best thing on menu. The hot peppers were delicious. The Italian sandwich was good but tastes like Jersey Mikes, typical kinda place. The potbelly vinaigrette was eh, bleh, too sweet. The Mediterranean sammy was good but I needed more filling. Bread was good though and nice and goid service. Cozy booths. What can be reviewed in a chain? The Tuna Sub is as it always is, at every Potbelly in existence, because that is how a chain works. This P'Belly always has Really great Customer service though, and that seems to set it apart. The employees act like they Like working there, and that makes me want to eat there as well. Clean for the most part, though they don't hit there tables to wipe them fast enough. All and all, I do like to eat here, when I am strolling one of those 'Fake Main Streets' And honestly, cheaper than most mom and pop sandwich shops, so when the wallet's not producing as it should, an easy remedy. read more

Note: this review is only of the shake that I received here. I have tried the Oreo shake at many different Potbelly's, and this place, by far, had the worst shake. I have always gotten a thick and creamy shake with chunks of Oreos, and it's terrible for your health, but I love it anyhow. Unfortunately, the shake that I got here did not include the mini Oreos on the lid (but not a big deal), and the shake itself was a liquidy mess and the Oreos were blended so finely that there were no discernible chunks. It was basically an Oreo-flavored chocolate milk. I was very disappointed. I'll admit that I haven't gotten the sandwiches here, and I'm going to assume that the sandwiches are the same at any other Potbelly's, but what's the point of getting the sandwich without the shake? read more

I like Potbelly's. They are efficient and they have great tomato soup. I have had their turkey on the skinny bread with extra lettuce. I may return here today for lunch because of how quick I got in and out last time. There is almost always a line and customers loop inside and past the drink cooler with has Pellegrino sodas and Perrier. Their cookies are as large as my palm and look quite appetizing. Prices are super cheap, food is always amazing, line is always quick and staff 9 times out of 10 are always super pleasant. There are 2 employes in particular, a young tall white guy with a deeper voice and shaggy hair and a black girl with glasses and piercings who are ALWAYS so kind, quick, and professional and make me smile whenever I come in. For a chain, I like their sandwiches, generally higher quality meats, nice chewy and crusty baguettes, and I do love the condiments (tons of mayo, vinegar dressing, spicy peppers). I went to Potbelly during a recent Japanese festival that was in the area. Good location, easy to find, and a good variance from the heaps of other restaurants right around it. Atmosphere - very fun, nice and spacious, walk up to and they make your sandwich as you move down the counter. Service - very friendly. The selection was great, offering the "Original" for $4.50, "Bigs" for $5.50, and "Skinnys" for $4.00 (which was described to me as a reduction of bread). There are also salads for just over $5, soup/chili, and extra stuff (including shakes, malts, and smoothies), all at very reasonable prices! I ordered the signature "Original Wreck" which I would recommend. Overall, very satisfied, and definitely would return if I were in the area of a Potbelly. read more

Love Love Love POTBELLYS!!! I have been here multiple times and it never fails. The customer service is good, they are very friendly. The line goes by pretty fast during lunch. If I wanted to get a good sandwhich - THE WRECK with almost everything in it is so good. You can tell them LIGHT on the toppings (for example: light mayo, light oil and italian seasoning). For salad, I normally get the chicken salad salad. The salad is pretty big and the chicken salad with the raisins give it a sweet taste. Other sandwhiches that are really good is italian, meatball sub, TKY. .. I guess I just love this place. Make sure to let them know if you want to order soup or shake in the beginning when you order your sandwhich/salad. Their COOKIES are some of the best cookies I have tried. All of them are so good ... of course high in caloric count, but are you surprised? Plenty of seating inside and sometimes they have someone sing at the restaurant which is unique. read more

Being a picky vegetarian who doesn't eat much spice or variety of sandwiches or even vegetables makes it hard to rave about a sandwich shop.... however, the Mediterranean sandwich is delicious, and Potbelly milkshakes/smoothies are the most amazing cold drinks you'll ever have, so sweet you'll wish they could last forever. If you want to become more community-oriented this is a great place to eat seeing as it not only holds a community bulletin board, but hosts open-mic nights, and occasionally donates percentages of sales to local businesses such as Lumina Studio Theatre. read more

Rudest management I have ever experienced. I absolutely love potbelly shakes...I waited in line and upon reaching the counter I was curtly told "No shakes, maybe tomorrow. MAYBE." The guy, who I found out was apparently managing, had such a sour attitude. I then suggested putting a note by the shake menu saying they were out (I have seen this courteous gesture at other Potbellys and greatly appreciated it as it saved me from waiting in line), and the guy's reaction was "Alright, BYE." My suggestion, double check that they have what you want before you wait in line for disappointment and rude, brash treatment. I wish I had his name but will forward this on to corporate because it is a disgusting example of customer service. read more

One of my favorite sandwich spots. The place has a great vibe and it always seems to be filled, whether for lunch or a late night meal. I usually get the Italian with extra hot peppers, and it's my absolute favorite. The tuna is pretty good too, but I usually stick with the favorites. The cookies (during a cheat day) are amazing. Especially the oatmeal chelate chip! Yum! The staff is pretty fast, sometimes it can take sometime if there's a rush. The prices are convenient. Super quick, delicious and good service. The two people making the sandwiches were very friendly and my Italian was made perfectly (none of the goodies were falling out). The cookies are to die for here! My boyfriend and I were in downtown Silver Spring for a concert and stopped in to eat before the show. First and foremost I would like to note that I have always been an avid Potbelly's patron. The wreck is my favorite and my Dad and I have been coming to eat at various Potbelly's with my family for many years. That being said I've never had a more awful dining experience at any establishment in my life ! What's worse is the staff Victor and Shaquana are actually super friendly, helpful and accommodating. BUT the manager Stefan (maybe wrong spelling but this is how he said it when he spat at myself and my friend who were looking to sit down for lunch) is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! I do not know how he got the position but he was extremely rude to us, very abrasive unnecessarily, and threatened my friend and I for making conversation with the cashier. He also made several disturbing racial slurs towards us that are not only inappropriate to state on this site but were beyond unprofessional, prejudicial, and unbecoming of any decent human being. Needless to say, I don't think I have the stomach to come back to Potbelly's especially this location again. Which is a real shame.... I hope he does not have the opportunity to ever treat another person the way he treated my friend and myself. RESPONSE TO POTBELLY's: I understand that you guys self proclaim as being committed to customer satisfaction, but didn't even take the time to spell my name correctly, and are requiring me to be take further steps for an unfortunate situation that my friend and I were the victim of. This has to be by far the worst potbelly in the franchise. I live in the area so I frequent this area and I normally pop into this location for dessert which ALL other stores have plenty of. I have stopped myself from leaving a negative review for this store but it has gotten ridiculous as to how often they do not have cookies after 8pm and they close at 10pm. Today I walk in at 9pm 1hr before they close to get a shake (cause I was positive they had no cookies) and yet again, all chairs are up so it would have to be a to go order. The manager of this location must leave extremely early because this place is ran by a bunch of "I'm not the manager/owner employees" after 8pm. I hope this place goes under new management ASAP. Their dark chocolate cookies are pretty good and very fairly priced, but their chocolate shakes are sadly flavorless. I ordered an apple banana smoothie which was suppose to only cost $2.69. The cashier was rather rude and ended up charging me $3.38. I thought tax was really expensive so I didn't say anything. Turns out the cashier overcharged me because tax should've costed only $0.16. The smoothie was way to sweet that I got a headache after drinking it. The place was filthy. The tables and seats needed to be wiped down because food and drinks were everywhere.
