Unfortunately for Navy Yard, this potbelly is just taking up space. The food at Potbelly's is never an issue. My personal fave is the uptown salad. However, the staff and management are just poor. The staff will hold conversations in front of customers as if the customer isn't standing right in front of them. I went in on a Sunday around 12pm. I ordered a Salad. When I went to grab utensils, they had no forks. When I asked the cashier for some, she said they were all out. My first thought was, maybe she didn't hear my question. So I repeated it. When she said they didn't have any again, my second thought was how are people dining in right now? Is a fork really too much to ask for at a sandwich shop that sells salads? Clearly management needs to keep better track of their inventory. read more

Good sandwiches, but I'm giving it 2 stars because EVERY SINGLE TIME I come in here, I see an employee ok their break surrounded by 2-3 of their friends and they are obnoxiously loud and aggravating. Management needs to fix that. read more

The Navy Yard Potbelly is a welcome change. The salads are fresh. I like the FarmHouse. Recently I visited there order the salad and after my long walk back to the office found I didn't have the grilled chicken. Aah grr!. I wasn't walking back. I emailed the company and they responded the same day. In a few days I received two coupons for free salads. I will be going back. There skinny sandwiches are very good. I like the skinny hammie. Always warm even after my long walk back to the office. Today 23 Jan. The manager called and was going to walk a salad over to me free if charge. Is that amazing or what? Potbelly and baseball are a great match. I'm so used to getting a sandwich before Orioles games in Baltimore. In DC, I have the option of getting the same Big Italian sandwich on wheat for Nats games. 800+ calories works for me. read more

Everything's about the same as any PotBelly but the off duty staff hangnout running around like elementary school children yelling, screaming, literally throwing things around banging on the furniture like small children making as much noise and mess as possible. You don't go to potbellys expecting world class service or small business charm, but even by moderate franchise sandwich shop standards, the service was terrible. The ordering process was confusing, with no obvious signs saying to order in another location than the register, and we were sent back and forth multiple times to accomplish our order. The servers were apathetic and appeared almost irritated to be interrupted by the expectation that they serve us. The food was uninspired and bland but whatever. It was the abysmal service that will definitively stop us from patronizing this location again. You're better off at a subway. read more

One star for TERRIBLE service! With four people behind the counter, you'd think you could get a sandwich in a reasonable amount of time, especially at 3pm on a Thursday. Even after we got our sandwiches, we probably waited five minutes while the woman behind the register made milkshakes. Somebody else could've prepared the shakes or checked us out. It's your standard Potbelly. This one does a good job of getting the lunch crowds through it fast, though since more options have opened up in the Yards area it is not as busy. Still high quality sandwiches, the staff are nice, and they usually have a good selection of drinks too. One of the better chains for lunch. Only gripe would be they close at 7...for a growing neighborhood, there has to be a marked for a bit more dinner service as well. read more

Like other reviewers have said, this is your standard Potbelly's. Given the location and the fact that you only really have 2 other places to choose from (Subway and Five Guys), I bumped it up to 4 stars. Lunch time get's crowded, so keep an eye open for seats. It was nice to have live music at this location on a weekday. I don't typically see that at other Potbelly locations in DC on weekdays. Not to mention he did an impressive job with his Jack Johnson, etc. mix of songs! Line moved fast with an employee running through the line to speed orders. Typical employees which were prompt and friendly. My wreck sandwich was made consistently as expected at every location. Glad to have this option in this part of town. read more

I like potbelly's. I get the same exact thing every time: big Italian on white with all the fixins and extra hot peppers. It never disappoints. This location has live music sometimes during lunch, which is a plus. The negative though is that it's only open until 7PM? I barely made it when I was visiting a friend who lives right above it. Also, the water dispenser hasn't been working the last two times I've been there, forcing me to steal some lemonade...and get my sugar high on. Hopefully once more people live down here they will expand their hours, and fix their fountain water. read more

The service is generally terrbile and one guy on the staff looks at me each time I order like he hates me for ordering food, while I stupidly smile. Had to walk out today after they ignored me and my sandwich sat there getting cold on the conveyor for way too long...and nobody else was on line. The food is fine, normal Potbelly. Not going back until there is a change in some of the staff. Thankfully better options are starting to open. read more

It's Potbellys! Sandwiches are the standard Potbelly just like everything one, good food but nothing to write home about. I have been when there is a small line and when the line is out the door, you just have to show up and take your chances. The seating here is limited. During a big rush there is easily not a seat for everyone. One thing about Potbelly is that you know what you are getting when you go into one. read more

Great place to go to for lunch, there are a lot of buildings around it with people going in on their lunch break. The lines can get long but they are very quick for the amount of people coming through, they bring around an extra person with an ipad and speed up the ordering process during lunch time. read more

Potbelly is good, because even though there are food trucks aplenty, I'll pass them up to go here. The shakes are really hard to pass up, fresh and delicious. Which is too bad, because they'll do other things, like slice out excess bread, which lowers the calorie count into reasonableness. Giving this place a three! Service is horrible every time. Ordered online & went to the pick line only to be cut off by two people because there was only one register. Then the lady didn't have my order in the system only to find out they already made it but removed my name in their computers before I even came in. Now I know it gets busy in there but c'on now. Acting like I'm the stupid one because my name wasn't in their system. Paid for a smoothie too but was already peeved that i just left. Food is good service needs a lot of help. read more

Went in to grab lunch this afternoon and the young girl at the register over charged me and got upset with me when I showed her my receipt. She asked me 4 times what I had ordered and still rang my purchases up wrong. She then keyed something in and handed me another receipt saying that she charged for a beverage that I did not order and that I would be refunded a different amount (much lesser) than what was printed on the receipt and when I brought that to her attention, she started rolling her eyes and sucking her teeth and then she snatched the receipt from me and pointed out what she meant as if she was speaking to a child. She also bawled up my original receipt which made no sense especially because it was mine to keep and because I paid for my purchase with debit card. Now surely I am old enough to be her Mother so the disrespect was definitely uncalled for and unprofessional. 99% of her role is customer service and she is doing a horrible job at it. Seeing a Manager on site and aware of what's taking place and not stepping up to proactively assess and resolve the issue as expeditiously as possible is baffling to me to say the least. The Manager had her usual unpleasant scowl on her face and seemed as if she didn't want to be there. This is a huge disappointment and a waste of my money. This WAS one of my favorite places to grab a sandwich or salad for the past 7 years and this new employee who definitely needs customer service training is the reason that it is no longer. I am a pot belly regular, which is why this pains me so much. My current experience as I'm still in the store, for the last 20 minutes with 4 customers. I've never seen such disregard for the customers time. I will never visit this location again and pot belly needs to seriously reconsider the staff at this store location. Going on 25 minutes now and they just put in my milkshake. I'm utterly befuddled by this experience. read more

I live in Navy Yard, and I've been to this Potbelly SEVERAL times. Each time I've gone there the staffs' minds seem to be on vacation. The service is ridiculously slow, sometimes staff go missing - one time I was waiting at the cash register for ANYONE to come over and ring me out, and then the staff starts yelling for someone to come out to handle a customer and 5-8 minutes later I finally check out. There clearly cannot be a manager EVER present for this type of behavior to go on repeatedly. I go there mostly on the weekends, so I'm not sure what week nights are like, but I'm sure it's no better. Yesterday afternoon is another example of their dysfunction. I asked for an original turkey on wheat w/provolone cheese and bacon. This is the SECOND time the SAME KID forgot to put the bacon on my sandwich. The first time I got all the way home and didn't notice it wasn't on there, so I had to walk six blocks back to the place. This time I specifically asked the other kid, who lackadaisically made my sandwich, if the bacon was on there and he said it wasn't so they put some bacon in some tin foil on the conveyor belt and added it to the sandwich. Both of them have zero idea the significance of their error and couldn't care less! (If I'm paying $1.25 for bacon...I'm GETTING MY BACON. Not to mention that their prices are quite ridiculous generally for the amount of toppings they have. Subway is definitely a better option generally.) The KIDS who are working there need a serious attitude adjustment and need to be retrained. In addition, management needs to take a more hands on approach at managing these folks. It's a Potbelly. What do you expect? A better than average chain sandwich that doesn't cost $14 and won't make you violently ill. Toasted bread (but not mouth-ripping like Quiznos), decent meats (unlike Jersey Mike's), and fit for human consumption (unlike Subway) all delivered in a clean faux coffeehouse setting. Competent staff with segregated duties: the first one takes your order and toasts your bread, the second adds your toppings, the third takes your money. Bonus points for actually serving soup that tastes like it was prepared by someone other than the Campbell's Soup Company. Louisiana fans will enjoy the Zapp's Potato Chips, and they serve IBC Root Beer as well. A somewhat isolated location, but there is a strong Navy Yard lunch crowd that will only get bigger once the condos are fully leased. So grab your sandwich and take a walk along the waterfront before the hobos discover the garden lounge chairs. read more

We have repeatedly been to this location and have left infuriated by the level of service provided. Five employees, two (total) customers during the calm hour of 2:30pm and a half an hour later we received three vanilla shakes after ordering 3 fruit smoothies (which were listed correctly on our receipt). We were ignored at every station, no tomato soup, and no apologies for the wait or the mistake. Deja was the person working the cash register and she was a ball of negative energy...just a ball! I hope the manager reads this because we ended up leaving after they took the charge off our credit card so we didn't have to wait another half hour and get stuck in rush hour traffic! I can't imagine that place at lunch and how disorganized it must be! There just didn't seem to be one person on the clock who a. was sharp b. cared a blip! Stick with the food trucks. read more

I love getting my lunch from this Potbelly location. I usually order online and pickup, so that I do not have to wait on line. The staff has always been courteous and my visits have always been very pleasant. Special mention to Team Lead Chanel!!! Last time I ordered a pickup, I asked that my hot peppers be 'on the side'. Since my order has always been correct, I didn't check it at the counter, but a few seconds after I left the store, Chanel came running out with my 'peppers on the side'. She could have just kept moving right along, but she was determined to ensure that my order was correct. This kind of customer service is seriously lacking, so for me, this was a big deal. Thank you Chanel, for making customer service a priority. I recommend Potbelly Navy Yard. And did I say their sandwiches are awesome??? read more
