I've always meant to stroll into Potsticker House ever since I moved to Bridgeport but never found the time. Last week I was able to and glad I did! The staff here is extremely kind and helpful with the menu. My girlfriend and I ordered quite a bit from the menu, as it is quite large and we couldn't narrow down our options. By far the best fish we ordered was the Kung Pao chicken. If we had ordered 3 of those plates we would have been more than satisfied. Having lived in Chicago for the past 7 years, this is hands down my favorite spot for authentic and home-cooked Chinese food. The menu is a great balance of crowd favorites and more hard-to-find mainland dishes. I've never been dissapointed when I've sat down or ordered out. We had a great meal for nine persons to celebrate Chinese New Year. Every dish was fresh and delicious. I especially loved their Northern style pancakes and beef stuffed pancakes which were fabulous. I ordered their tianjin bao zi from chowbus lol along with bao zi from a few other restaurants. But because chowbus waited 3 hours to deliver my food I wasn't able to taste the baos when they are hot but I was still impressed. It has a good dough to meat balance. The meat is nice and has a good bounce on the teeth, thats a good thing. The juice is flavorful and is soaked in the inside lining of the bao. Tastes just like what a great bao zi should taste like. the outside dough is has a nice chew and a good dough flavor to it and paired with the juicy and well seasoned filling, every bite is a joy. Definitely want to go back and try their other snacks. I kind of wish I had ordered everything from them today instead of trying baos from 3 different restaurants. But now i know lol very very authentic baos. Word of advice, i hate wow bao, and love the baos from this restaurant. Good food, free parking lot, so-so service due to language barrier, will probably come again though! Came here with a few friends to catch up who wanted XLB in the city. As far as that goes, wasn't too bad! Wish they had the ginger soy sauce/vinegar to go with it but only gave us chili oil and soy sauce (still good though). We also ordered their special long potstickers with a very good pork flavor and crispy skin. The garlic fried string beans were my favorite - very flavorful on their own and even better eaten with rice (we loved it so much we forgot to take a picture). The noodles were okay, nothing to write home about. Sesame chicken was pretty good/standard. We had two of our friends bring their infant and toddler kids and they were able to provide high chairs thankfully! Not too small and not too large of a place, definitely a whole in the wall off Halsted across the police station. Their menu is pretty extensive but will probably come back to try some more items! I think they mainly spoke mandarin and luckily one of our friends were there to help us translate some things. Wow. I can't remember the last time I had xiao long bao that were these good. Each and every single little package of meat-stuffed dough was -so- juicy. Even with careful, delicate nibbles... more than one of our party ended up spurting fatty dumpling fluids all over the table! Beyond their vaunted tang bao, many of their other dishes were noteworthy. I really loved how tender and fresh the do miao were. Similarly, I'd go back again for the salt and pepper shrimp. Whilst not disappointing, I was unimpressed with any of their typical Szechuan cuisine - mapo tofu and dan dan mian barely caused my nose to break a sweat. I'd even specifically requested the dan dan noodles to come with ma la spice, but that order must have gotten lost between our server and the kitchen. Similarly, I'd shy away from the kimchee fried rice. First off... kimchee at a Chinese restaurant? Secondly, the heavy sodium in it had me refilling my teacup multiple times. Rounding out the fine food was some exceptional service. Our waitress was super spunky and had the most precise Mandarin pronunciation I've ever encountered. It was like she'd taken lessons in enunciation from a midwestern newscaster... that spoke perfect mainland Chinese. I could have listened to her talk all day long! Plus, the prices on all the dishes we ordered were roughly 20-30% lower than what they'd typically cost at virtually any other restaurant in Chicagoland. Not bad, considering we ordered some pricey items like whole steamed fish. Sure, the neighborhood is a bit dodgy, but all said and done, Potsticker House did the trick. This used to be my favorite restaurant in bridgeport. I will miss ordering the cumin lamb with bone. This time my family ordered $140 worth of food. We ordered whole fish with sweet sour. The fish was over cooked and to crispy. Also it was poorly wrapped and placed into aluminum foil. Last time it was delivered in tray. Northern pancake to crispy as well. Dumplings were over cooked. The bok choy was ok. The lotus root was ok. Crispy chicken to spicy. I have also ordered take out alot and it is never ready on time. The usual waitress will tell you just a minute and leave and tend to others while not informing the cooks in back. I feel like at one point this place was a neighborhood staple. I realize and have teied other places and am glad there are other top choices as well. I will sadly not be returning.with my family in the future. read more

The menu features American Chinese and Traditional Mandarin foods so there will be something for everyone. The service was very quick and typical of a Chinese restaurant. The interior isn't fabulous but it does the job. Ordered the Wontons in Chili Oil, Smoked Pork Pancake, Xiao Long Bao, Beef Noodle Soup, and the Tofu with Mixed Vegetables. The Wontons were plentiful and very shareable. It wasn't overly spicy at all, just looked that way. The oil gives the dumplings this buttery texture. The Wonton filling was just okay, nothing really that special. The Smoked Pork Pancake was very filling. The pork slivers inside were flavorful and the dabs of plum sauce gave a nice sweetness to all the salty and spicy. The pancake itself was nice and crispy, it wasn't too oily either. The Xiao Long Baos were the star! They were soooo juicy and the sauces it came with made the flavors even more delicious! The skin wasn't too thick and the filling was flavored just right. The Beef Noodle Soup was very disappointing. The broth was very bland and the noodles were too, they didn't pick up any flavor from the soup at all. Only the beef chunks were tasty here. The Tofu and Mixed Vegetables came with fried tofu, mushrooms, carrots, baby bok Choy, and some other little things here and there. I've only been here a few times over the years, but each time I've had a good time. The food always has been good, the service is good, and the place has a nice ambiance to it. This is probably the only Chinese Restaurant in the neighborhood I would recommend for a nicer date setting. How does this place compare to others? Hard to say. Who has the best food? I'm not a good person to answer. What part of China does this place represent? Way over my head. Wonton with Chili Oil is one of those sublime, simple dishes that is only available in true Sichuan establishments. Once I see that on the menu, and throw in some proper Xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), life is definitely good. These Wonton with Chili Oil were positively swimming in a atomic concoction of Chili Oil and other secret ingredients. The taste was sensational and the spice level was at the perfect sweat and endorphin inducing level many know is the key to life and happiness. The service was friendlier than many similar establishments but somewhat haphazard, as various staff members brought us dishes, forgot silverware, took empty plates when prompted, etc. Finally, the prices are so low that I felt a bit guilty after the whole experience. I took my husband here for dinner tonight. We sat down right away and ordered some appetizers. Food came out pretty quick. I ordered a cold soy milk to try. It wasn't that sweet but not bland. Perfect for me. The long potstickers were crispy on the inside and juicy in the inside. My husband thought it has no flavor but I disagreed because it was very flavorful to me. The wontons in hot chili oil (thought about 5 minutes of I should order or not ) were just ok. I didn't even think it was spicy at all. Not much flavor for me. I should of skipped it. Our favorite was the siu long bao (soup dumplings). I wished there was more juice inside the dumplings. It was still good. The lamb cumin was good. It has a different type of spice to it. This little spot is right next door to my most favorite spot for Korean food in the whole world. Literal whole world. Well. Except for my own kitchen... =] This fave spot of mine was on vacay and closed for a couple weeks. But we had driven all the way from Indiana to eat and so we were gonna eat. Decided on the Potsticker House. The menu is extensive. And overwhelming if you don't know what you want. You can ask for a recommendation but they won't really have one for you. #shrug It was decent. The food was pretty good. Some things were definitely better than others. The Shredded Pork in Garlic Sauce and the Ham & Egg Fried Rice were the winners. Oh. And the Pork Pancake was super delicious. (I do have to note... this was an appetizer but came out after all our entrees had come out. Much after. This bothers me.) The Hot and Sour Soup was average. And the Jajangmyun was terrible. It just didn't come with enough sauce. Not even close. I had to ask for more sauce twice. TWICE. And it was salty. O.o The waiters were... nice. However, they were mumblers. They recently fixed their parking lot and you can enter right on Halsted. The restaurant looks like it was recently updated as well. Service is good. They are super quick and attentive. We opted to get a simple lunch consisting of noodles, dumplings and some scallion pancakes. The noodles were really tasty and the texture was spot on it wasn't over or undercooked. There is a generous portion on both noodles and meat. I would go for the spicy one. It had a little bit more flavor and is not too spicy The scallion pancakes was standard. The Shanghai soup dumplings are ok. The skin was ok and they seemed kind of flat. The soup was ok. They are definitely not the best I had but they are acceptable. Probably one of the better ones in the area. The steamed dumplings are tasty and soft. They have a good flavor and they are nice with hot sauce and some vinegar. Overall good experience. I came here for a quick bite. Also It was the only place in the city that had jianbing on the menu. I find that strange in Chicago but it might be the only one mentioned in the Chinese name on yelp. The jianbing was fine, I didn't think it was too traditional. It definitely needed some spice to it. I also didn't think it needed as much of the fried pieces, the ones that I have had before had crispy pancakes. This was just an egg converted pancake. I had an amazing lunch at Potsticker House. The menu is extensive, so it took a while to formulate our order, but we loved everything. The veggie potstickers were great. The hot and sour soup was also a nice appetizer. The chow mein noodles were so good- they tasted very fresh and homemade (not sure if they are). The sesame chicken was somehow light, yet still satisfying. I also really liked the fresh soybean milk- it's warm and comforting. There was a short, 15 minute wait, which was totally fine considering the popularity of the restaurant. One thing that I really appreciate about this place is the kind hostess, y'all know how spotty Chinese establishments can be on that front. It's BYOB and they didn't charge us a cooking fee (I believe), so we brought two bottles of wine. I love that our money could then be put to more FOOD. They were a bit swamped when we came in but were able to flag down a waiter fairly quickly and he also brought over a wine opener.Not gonna lie, we went a bit excessive on this meal. Between three people, we ordered the following: 1 order Xiao Long Bao (~$7) Nice plump XLB on a slice of carrot so it doesn't rip open on the bamboo steamer. Clearly homemade and the skin is not too thin, but not too thick. Nice chewy consistency. Be careful, these suckers are HOT. The filling is actually not as much as it could be, but the meat aspic "juice" that leaks out of these is quite tasty-- if you don't mind it being a tad on the oilier side. No complaints, must get these when you're at Potsticker House despite the nitpickings. 1 order Beef Noodle Soup (~$10) A nice, large bowl of beef soup (not spicy!) with thin sized strands of noodles. These noodles are not homemade, but taste really good with the pieces of beef shank and beef tendon/bits inside. Yeah, the stock portion is also a bit oily, but that's what makes it taste better IMO. Shareable between three people or a large meal for one. 1 order Sweet and Sour Beef*** (Forgot the Price) The waiter heard us wrong and we were given sweet and sour pork. I only realized this halfway through because I wasn't paying too much attention due to our conversing. The thing is, this dish is delicious and the meat really isn't the star-- in fact, the meat barely has any flavor to it, which made it indistinguishable in the first place. The star is the sweet and sour, thick and crunchy filling that stayed crunchy even with the sauce on it throughout our entire meal. I would get this dish again in its true PORK format, just beware and emphasize the protein if you have dietary or religious restrictions. Decent portion, not big or small. 1 order of Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet (~$12 I think) Big portion, but disappointing because it was bland. Had to do some seasoning at the table with their salt and pepper shakers. Fish meat itself was good, mild taste as it should be. Batter really needs work. Probably the "worst" dish at the table, but still not terrible. 1 order of Cumin Lamb on Bone (~$17) This dish stole the show. It came on a giant long plate, and it was essentially bits of fatty lamb on the bone. Beware if you don't like fatty cuts- you're better off getting the cumin lamb off the bone, it's a different and leaner cut entirely. However, if you're a pork belly connoisseur and looking to try a new fatty cut, GET THIS! It was delicious. So, if you can believe it, 3 girls finished all that food ^^. I'm only giving 3 stars because of the inconsistencies with some of the dishes as well as the service. This meal did not disappoint. The soup dumplings were delicious, hot, and filled with a delicious broth. The pan fried smoked pork cakes were equally delicious. They were a tad on the greasy side, but, nevertheless, tasty. I loved the sauce that was put inside the pancake! The beef stew was flavorful as well! While it definitely seemed simple, the broth was delicious and the noodles were think and filling! Unfortunately, the dish that I was looking forward to the most disappointed me the most. A great place for brunch. So affordable. Fantastic and reasonable prices. Ample portions. Their dim sum menu has all the necessities. But the main reason we came here was for their XLB (soup dumplings). XLB (xiao long bao, soup dumplings): The skin wasn't too thin or too thick, a good median. As for the soup, some dumplings had more than others. Not too salty, and the right flavor. A slice of carrot under the dumplings so that the skin doesn't rip, so ingenious! A staple when coming here. Best when paired with a dash of the soy/vinegar sauce and some chili oil (both come with the dish). Beef Stew Noodle Soup: A classic. The flavors are done right and the soup is tasty. Slightly, spicy but nothing crazy. Had a friend who can't handle spicy food eat this very well. The noodles are firm and the beef is incredibly soft. Very large bowl! Can be shared between 2-3 people. I'm not going to lie, while it wasn't bad per day, this was a bit underwhelming for me and left something to be desired. My friend (who doesn't eat this dish as often) however loved it so take it as you will. Chinese Scallion/Chive Pancake: Ugh these are my favorite. And they absolutely KILLED it here. So. Good. So flakey and a perfect crispy. Not too greasy and just great overall. I def recommend. Youtiao [Char Kway] (long Chinese doughnut/breadstick): Wasn't available when we went on a Tuesday morning, but you def need to try it. Crispy and fluffy bread, whats there not to love!
