Best cafe de olla around! Had the mole. It was really good. The service was good, but I mainly came on here to brag about the cafe de olla!

Craving pozole on a chilly Sunday morning. Came to Potzoldencano on a whim. This place is great. There was a long like in front. So if you come on the weekend, expect to wait a minimum of 45 min. The staff definitely tries to move the parties along as efficiently as possible. I highly recommend cafe de olla. Hot coffee with a robust cinnamon flavor and lightly sweetened. As simple as it is, I could drink this allday. Served with a complimentary birote and butter. Chiliquiles with an option of red or green sauce and are amazing! A cup or small size of pozole was actually quite a lot and comes with a mini set of condiments. Service was quick and friendly. Perfect for the whole family! read more

My primo suggested this place to me to check out since I love pozole. It's a quaint little hole in the wall with not too much seating, and authentic as it can get (seeing as how it's in Santa Ana). The broth tasted very clean and flavorful. The tortilla chips with all the different sides was pretty decent too. I have to admit though that I'm rather more of a fan of the dirty red pozole like how it's usually made. The waitress was nice and the waiter was very attentive to our needs. We alway come here and the food is always good but lately their service has been really bad ! They told they only had the patio available so we said that we didn't mind to sit out there, well they forgot we there and waited for 20 mins so we left and when we left I hear one of the servers tell the other that she forgot we were out there, they need to improve their service and remember when they have people outside in the patio !!! read more

This place is straight up fire. My bf and I were craving Mexican and I had been to Potzoldencano a few times previously and was craving their chicken pozole. It is a really small location in Santa Ana. Like tiny tiny, so expect a wait, every time I show up its a battle trying to find parking here, so keep that in mind as well. Their small lot is shared with other businesses and there are spots you can't park in as other businesses have claimed them. We got lucky this time around and parked right in the front. We showed up around 2pm (I was thinking we could miss the lunch rush) but there was still a 30-40 min wait. After waiting a bit we were called & sat inside. They have an outdoor patio section with heat but it was still cold AF so we were stoked to be sitting inside. I'd also suggest bringing a coat on a cold day because it gets cold inside from the server going in and out of the patio section. Alright now for the comida. I ordered the Medium Chicken Pozole, my BF ordered the Enchiladas Verdes w Pork. We also got this BOOOMB molletes. IDK the type of bread they use, but its refried beans & hella cheese. I mean, I am salivating at the thought of it. The pozole is bomb, plenty of chicken & hominy. They give you al the fixings for it too. & be careful, this Latina can handle her spicy & that red sauce they give you for your pozole is not to be messed with. Plenty of fixings & lots of options on how you want to have your pozole taste. Honestly, the medium is the way to go if you want to fill up. My bf enjoyed his enchiladas, the sauce is so good. I tried a bit of his dish & it was super good. Its big plate, and super filling. This place is not one to sleep on, trust. I have had their Cafe De Olla and its super super good. Piping hot coffee. They also have Agua Fresca, and a good variety. Be patient with service as this is a small location. I happened to be in the area for an appointment and I was craving Chilaquiles, and this is where Yelp led me to! The photos on Yelp looked amazing so I decided to stop by. They're in a small strip mall located in the corner. It's easy to miss if you don't look for it closely. There is parking available, although it's a shared lot with the other businesses. I arrived around 9am on a Thurs morning, and most of the tables were filled inside, although they still had seats open in the attached outdoor patio with heaters. I was able to snag a table inside, although it was still quite cold in there. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables. By the time I left, there were people waiting to get in. Since I came there for the Chilaquiles, that's what I ordered. On the menu it's called "El Favorito". I got mine with roja (red) sauce and carne asada. It came with beans, coffee and OJ. The coffee was sweet - I believe it's a special kind of coffee. It was good, but too sweet for my taste. The Chilaquiles came out fairly quickly. I thought it would be a bigger portion based on the Yelp photos, but I was able to finish it all in one sitting. The chips were crunchy (not soggy) and the red sauce had a nice kick to it, but not too spicy. I didn't care for the onions on top, but maybe that's how authentic Chilaquiles is made? The carne asada was a generous portion and it was tasty and cooked perfectly. The dish came together well. It wasn't the "best" I've ever had, but it was good. Next time I go, I'd probably try their enchiladas. The service was good in the beginning and waned in the end. I had to ask for the bill, as they didn't check on me after they delivered my Chilaquiles. I would stop by again if I were in the area. The food is 4 stars and the service is 3.5 stars. The Chilaquiles dish is on the expensive side ($16.00), but the other dishes seemed to be more reasonable in price. read more

I went twice and tried the pozole and enchiladas.. the service was so horrible both times that the food didn't matter. The waitress argued with me because I told her she got my order wrong. She was ignoring us we had to get up to get our own napkins and salt etc. the fact she argued with me about how she took my order wrong was the worst part! La comida excelente!! Pero hay 2 cosas que tienen que mejorar. La llave del baño lo tocan los que NO se lavan las manos al salir del baño. Deben de tener un código. O algo más higiénico. el baño también tiene un olor bien feo que sale a las mesas de alrededor. También deben de fijarse en cómo rellenan las tazas de café. Now it is a disappointment of an experience. I used to like this place. But the last time I went the pozole broth was soo bland and the meat (pata) was cold. They gave me a damn teaspoon to eat my pozole with. Also the containers for the trimmings for the pozole were so tiny so when you try to scoop it out it would fall on to the table. The service was okay. I'll never go back. read more

I have been frequenting this place off and on for 5+yrs. I am updating my review and dropping the stars. The lack of staff continues to be an issue. It is Wednesday morning. All 5 of the interior tables and 4 exterior tables are filled. T I counted a total of 4 staff. A woman who was the hostess/server/bus person. She had to handle all of the tables on her own. Ridiculous. She was so nice and tried to be attentive to all. All of the tables had to follow up with all request. Refills, checks, etc. Owner/cook 2 sous chefs. The food is still great, they have greatly improved the outdoor seating area. This has made me frequent less and less. Things/places are already ridiculously slow. Hubby and I were being sorta lazy this weekend...we were both suffering through colds and had to force ourselves to put on pants and leave our zip code. Soup sounded good so we decided to check out Potzoldencano. Be ready for a wait. It's not exactly run like clockwork (possibly understaffed) but your patience will pay off. The first person we encountered didn't speak English but everyone else that helped us later did so don't panic if your Spanish isn't up to par. Food here was amazing. I decided on the pig's feet posole. (It's not everyday and every place you can get this.) AND the enfrijoladas choriceras. Oh and the cafe de olla. Hubby went super carby and got the bisquets and the molletes. Pretty much everything was delicious. The posole comes "white" which doesn't mean it's lacking in flavor. It just doesn't have the spicy for which they give you a little ramekin of flames harvested directly from the depths of Mordor. Needless to say, go easy on this. In my hubris, I threw in three spoonfuls and lived to regret it. I got the enfrijoladas with the panela cheese. In retrospect, I think I would have preferred the version without the chorizo topping. Overall it was a pretty salty dish but also a guilty pleasure. The bisquets were also really good but I preferred the free warm roll they give you. And of course...the coffee. I think we got full on the coffee alone. It seems so simple but yet so delicious. We definitely want to come back, hubby prefers that there isn't a wait but we'll just have to find a way to distract ourselves! read more

As someone who comes from a Mexican family, I know what good and pozole is and what is bad pozole. Though this place has several items on the menu, I only come here during cold days for their pozole because there's tastes authentic. The only thing I don't like about theirs is they use lettuce instead of cabbage so it gets a bit soggy for me. This is specifically to me and I know many people who prefer lettuce over cabbage in theirs. The main reason this place gets a four is due to the small space. I have driven here many times and left after finding out there is a 45+ minute wait simply because they can't fit many people inside or into the tiny patio. Additionally, the parking lot is horrible and almost every time we have to park far down the street or at a neighboring parking lot. So if it isn't busy and you can find parking, I recommend trying it out! read more
