This was our second time at this restaurant, and it was not like the first. Two years ago we visited and had an amazing dinner for 5, with great sidecars and amazing steak. The vibe was peppery with conversation at all the tables. Two weeks ago, we were gravely disappointed in mostly everything thing, except the mashed potatoes and steak. The lamb was an obvious rare, when it was ordered medium. Who eats lamb that rare? The calamari was meh. The drinks meh. Nothing exciting. As entrees ordered lobster ravioli with shrimps DELICIOUS. Also, ordered veal w breadcrumbs with arugula salad and cherry tomatoes atop.. this was simply delicious. After looking at the menu decided on one dish then listened to the specials, which there were quite a few to select from. I went with the Surf and Turf it was more food than I expected with a lower price then expected also. The decor is nice with a very open space feel and the service was attentive and very present. A co worker recommended me to try this place out. I am always willing to try different venues. The staff was very attentive. Our waiter was very detailed in explaining the food items, and all the specials for the night. I enjoyed all the food from the soup of the night (Lobster Bisque), to the Seafood Platter for two as an appetizer. I even tried Duck for the first time, and it was enjoyable. We came here with clients and the whole gang for a celebratory dinner. They actually kept the place open a little later than usual as we were running late. I had the scallop main course which was great. They had some good wines. And the desserts were quite good and generous. Everyone was satisfied except for our accountant. Have been here twice since NYE 2020. First time party of 2, second time party of 8. Neither time was I of other disappointed. Personally ordered to Ribeye both times and was not let down the second time after thoroughly enjoying the first time. Octopus salad for an app was amazing. After visiting, I can see why this place has very mixed reviews. My wife and I came here, looking for a local date night. It was really nice, so we sat outside. The service for the most part was good, although it got pretty busy and here was only 2 servers outside. I asked for a wine menu and he only had the bottled menu, so he rattled off the wines by glass. I had a glass of rosé which was nice. For our appetizer, we shared the fried calamari, which was lacking flavor, the portion was very small, and a quarter of it was fried zucchini! I ordered the gnocchi in the lamb ragu for my main which was the only saving grace of this visit. My wife ordered the scallops. The scallops were just disappointing! They had a fishy smell and had a odd soapy smell. Since we sent back the scallops, she opted for dessert, a chocolate soufflé cake served with gelato. Like when you think soufflé, you think light, delicate, this was not at all. This establishment is not a place I would plan of visiting again. read more

The Steak served to me was low grade and mediocre quality. Definitely one of the worst steaks that I've had in my entire life! Words of advice to the owner and Chef-you must serve a product that you would proudly serve to your family!! The Steak I was served was sub par beef, it was veiny, tough and just a miserable piece of meat. I spent $120 and was totally disappointed. I should have been reimbursed for my meal. Had been dying to try this place for the longest time and decided that Hudson Valley Restaurant Week would be a great time. I loved the decor- dark woods, beautifully textured and antiqued walls which hold gold ornate mirrors and large framed paintings of Tuscany. Lovely. But I have had much better food, especially for the price. My buffalo mozzarella starter had unripe tomatoes, my hanger steak was an unfortunate presentation of bland chunks of meat ontop of a bed of soggy, wet, flavorless carmelized onions, which was surpsing since this is supposed be a steakhouse. The shoestring fries were also cold, limp, soggy and underseasoned. My husband's spinach salad app was actually delicious - the best part of the meal. His goat cheese ravioli was also underseasoned, swimming in sauce and lukewarm. Both desserts tasted as if they were not really fresh, more like something defrosted or microwaved and again - the one that had chocolate sauce was doused in it, overwhelming the dish completely. We had no issues with the service, but there were only a few other diners at the time and we both enjoyed our wine-by-the-glass selections. We were very disappointed. I am so sorry to rate this restaurant a 3 star, because the food is outstanding and I live within five miles and like to support out local businesses But, for three people, our bill was $300 plus the tip and we only had 5 drinks between us and no desserts. I do not understand all the "hype" about this place. First, we went on a Saturday during HV restaurant week and found out that they do not honor their HV restaurant menu on Saturday. We decided to stay and dine anyway. While we were waiting for our food to arrive ... 2 ANTS were found to be crawling on the white tablecloth. We immediately called the waiter over, who blamed it on the unsweetened ice tea that my friend had ordered. He then proceeded to pick up the ants with his hand and walk away with NO APOLOGY whatsoever. He was extremely rude throughout the entire evening. Plus one more ant showed up while we were waiting for dessert. I called several days later and spoke to the owner/manager. I had Filet Mignon steak with brandy peppercorn sauce and it was cooked to perfection! Husband had Grilled octopus that was delicious also! Just went there for lunch. Had the squid ink fettuccine with mushrooms and lobster in a red sauce and also an arugula salad for an appetizer. The fettuccine was absolutely fantastic here is probably the best pasta dish I've had in the last 10 years. Very generous portions of lobster and wild mushrooms. The red sauce itself was also very well done. The arugula salad was simple but not overdone with balsamic vinegar and had some nice shavings of Parmesan cheese in it. Very tasty. read more

Really nonplussed about this place. My folks had a gift certificate to burn through and I'm not one to say no to free food - so the three of us went on Saturday for dinner. 6:00 - the place is absolutely dead. We're lead into a dining room, where we are the only diners. Weird. No music, so its eerily quiet. Isn't this how horror movies start? Our server was friendly enough. But the food...meh. We started with fried calamari. The calamari was delicate and not over done - but needed some more seasoning. The marinara it was served with was really thin. Not impressed. I had the hangar steak, medium rare. While cooked correctly it had visibly been sitting under the heat lights for a smidge too long. It was served on top of caramelized onions and some au jus steak sauce stuff. Tasted canned. The sauce had started to congeal by the time it hit the table. Not pretty. French fries, while delicious were COLD. The chocolate decadence dessert which we split (recommended by both server & busboy alike) was nothing to write home about. You can taste good chocolate. This was not it. Honestly, the frozen chocolate flourless cake from Trader Joe's pretty much one upped this dessert. By the time we left, there were other diners - so at least it wasn't creepily quiet anymore. But with no music, I could hear the detail of every conversation in the room. Including the yappy lady behind us who was yammering on and on about her new leather boots. Exciting stuff. All in all? Meh. All the food was edible and not bad. It just wasn't really good either. This was hands down a very disappointing dining experience. Our waiter was pleasant but incredibly unknowledgeable about the drink and dinner menu. The roll given to each person is absolutely horrible. It's obviously a frozen product, and had zero flavor. The house salad was soggy, and made with cheap lettuce. My friend's steak was ok, not great. Mine was almost inedible. A bone-in rib eye should be lush and sexy. This steak was grizzle, not cooked to requested temperature at all, and I had a hard time cutting it. The swiss chard side dish was overcooked and not salted. Our waiter had to juggle five tables at the same time, yet was hardly in the dining room. VERY frustrating. I'm writing this review because this is not a cheap dinner. Bedford Falls. That's what Fishkill, NY reminds me of. I don't remember a Sapore Steak House in Bedford Falls. This place is just plain good. Now, I believe that in a place like this, I can ask the wait staff for a suggestion and go with it. So, I got the Half Roasted Long Island Duck. The port reduction sauce was delicious and the sun dried cherries added just the right amount of tart to balance against the sweet of the reduction. Dinner came with a house salad that was excellent too. I LOVE salad. Yes, you read that right. It came with a light dressing (basically a vinegar and oil) and a bowl of bleu cheese. The salad was fresh and full of stuff (cucumber, tomato, onion, olive and at least two lettuces). This is clearly an elegant, old house that was converted to a restaurant. The decoration is not over-the-top, just stately. You feel like you're eating in a very nice place. I, though, walked in on a Monday evening, no reservations, sporting a pair of jeans and basically a sweatshirt (collared). I fit in. There was enough business going on in the dining room and bar to give me the confidence to take a seat. The service didn't disappoint. I think the prices are lower than what I'd expect for this quality and at a place that looks like this inside. This is a good place for a business dinner or a date. I saw both around me. This place is recommended. Finally, the duck. If you're still reading this and you know anything about duck, tell me, is it supposed to taste like beef? Seriously. I had duck once in my life prior. I was 10, I'd gotten a duckling from school, raised it to adult, then my dad turned it into Easter dinner. Yep. My little sisters were out of the loop. Anyway, I don't recall much from 2006 much less when I was 10, but I don't remember it tasting like a round steak. Here's the thing, when she asked me if I wanted it done rare or medium-rare, I was perplexed. Let's get this out in the open...this is a fowl, right? Like, say, a ... chicken or a turkey. You don't get those guys done anything but,.... well, well done (enough to kill the crap that'll kill you). Right? Please help me. I think I like duck now that I know what it is. Although, if this was good duck, I think it's OK, but I wouldn't get it again. But if this could be improved like a round steak can be improved, I will have to go on a duck "hunt" over my future travels to see how good this can get. We came up from NYC to visit a dear friend who moved to Fishkill. The company was superb, the food was not. We walked into Sapore with high hopes. The room is cozy and cute. The appetizers were good, but very small. We were excited when we got an unexpected salad with blue cheese. Service was eehh. We weren't happy with Gunther, our waiter. He seemed a touch condescending. We are all almost 30, but look younger. We felt he was looking down on us as foolish kids or something. Also, a bus boy reached over my friend to fill a water class, almost elbowing her in the face. It took our entrees about an hour to come out. We were surprised by how little food 40$ a plate got us. My lamb chops, for example, had two small pieces of lamb and a few halves of baby potatoes. They were also more fat then meat. All of our food was extremely salty as well. My friend got the cornish hen, which was overcooked and dry. The other two members of our party got the venison. It was cold, and one piece was so undercooked it was almost raw. Our guess was one piece fell on the floor and the rushed to cook another one. We voiced our complaints to Gunther, who offered nothing in return. Other restaurants tend to offer a free drink or desert to dissatisfied customers, but no offer was made. Also, three of us paid with a card and one left a 50$ bill. The server took and kept the cash without offering change. Kind of presumptuous, consider every other restaurant asks if you want change or does not take the cash unit the receipts are signed. To top to all off, we all had some degree of stomach discomfort at the end of the night. read more

Spendy, yes. Quality product though, delivered in a very nice space, with attentive, near-doting service. Where Sapore falls short is outside of its primary wheelhouse, which is delivering excellent cuts of meat prepared simply and well. The appetizers, sides, and desserts are unexciting, under-seasoned, and generally underwhelming. From crabcake to caprese salad to cheesecake, that is the motif. That being said - where else are you going to see Elk and Buffalo on the menu around here? We had both, and they were both excellent. Tasting steaks from around the table elicited a similar, extremely positive experience. So, is it a 5-star steakhouse? No, not really. But not because of the meat...because of the trimmings. read more

My husband and I have been patronizing Sapore since it's inception. We had not been there in almost two years for some of the reasons described in the previously posted reviews. We returned last night on a whim and were very pleasantly surprised by the changes. The new manager has made a difference in the attitude of the service and the quality of the food. We ordered oysters and grilled calamari for appetizers and elk medallions and bison sirloin for entrees. All were expertly prepared and served. My husband and I have dietary restrictions and thus have difficulty finding restaurants that can accommodate us. Sapore's menu offers many options for "clean" eating. We'll be back. read more

Here's my problem with Sapore. The first thing I had there was so good, I haven't been able to try anything else off the menu. Each time I pore over the descriptions, listen to the specials, weigh this option with that -- and without fail order the Grilled Wild Alaskan Salmon Finished in a Light Mustard Crust & Served over Garlic mashed Potatoes...with a side of Asparagus. It is to die for. As a sad result, I cannot comment on the delicious-smelling steaks, exotic game, decadent seafood cocktail platters, or pasta selections. However, my disappointment always melts away with the first bite of the large, well-cooked filet. I like salmon so I've had it many times, but I've never tried anything that complements the fish as well as this baked on, subtly spicy layer of crunch. An honorable mention of the Sapore experience: the chopped salad. A homestyle bowl with tomato, cukes and kalamata olives appears at the table unbidden, with crumbled bleu cheese to top off the light oil dressing. This place is a cut above your average establishment in terms of atmosphere, cuisine...and price. For my limited money, it's worth it on a special occasion. When I hit it big, you'll see me in the Benz on Tuesday, the 'Bach on Wednesday, and Fridays I might tie a Thoroughbred to a tree out back. But even then I doubt I'll be able to resist that freakin' salmon. read more

I'll preface my review by saying that I was here for a pharmacy rep dinner. Sometimes we aren't given the full menu, but were this time Having been here several times now (always for a rep dinner), I can say that this is a good steakhouse, but not one that I would elevate higher. For me, it comes down to price and getting what you pay for. If you're going to order a steak (which, of course I recommend at a steakhouse), expect to pay between $30-$40 for it. This is not uncommon for high quality places, but if you've been to others of this type in Manhattan (Keens, etc.) you'll be able to tell the difference immediately. Sure, it's not a fair comparison but for a region void of high end steakhouses, I'd expect this one to be better. I typically order a T-Bone medium/rare but on this particular occasion it was a bit on the dry side (more so than usual) and I feel that it was overcooked. I didn't have any sides, but I usually find them to be quite good (cream spinach, etc.) unfortunately none were ordered this time. My wife (a vegetarian) had their ravioli. Now, the last time she had it she became quite ill from eating it, but we weren't sure if it was attributed to this or not. So she gave them another chance yesterday and experienced the same outcome... We will be calling them today to investigate what they put into the ravioli that may be causing her to have this reaction, but as a steakhouse, vegetarian options are quite limited so I'm not sure she will be excited about the next dinner hosted here. If you're looking for a cheap steak, by all means go to your chains (outback, etc.) but if you want something that is a cut above, but not quite the status of NYC Steakhouses, check out Sapore in Fishkill. read more

I'm going to make this quick. Just ate here and I'm happy to say the food was pretty good. The atmosphere is very classy, especially in the bar area. I've been curious about this place for about a year and a half and finally decided to check it out despite the mixed Yelp reviews. I had the bone-in ribeye steak with a side order of asparagus, and two diet cokes. The reason I say two diet cokes is because refills are not free. My bill before tip was just shy of $50. I was surprised when I saw it because the steak was $36 ($6 more than what is listed on the web page, as another reviewer noted) and the asparagus was $5 (for five spears.) The diet cokes were $2.50 each, for a 12-ounce (or possibly even 10-ounce) glass that was filled mostly with ice. I finished the first one in about three sips and asked for another one. I guess it's a pet peeve of mine when restaurants charge for refills of soft drinks, especially when they serve 4-6 ounces at a time. The asparagus was delicious, even though the portion was small, and was served lightly coated in butter with some slices of crispy fried garlic. The steak was also very good, although I can see how some people might find the "black and blue" nature of their version of medium rare to be off putting. Rare steaks are supposed to be raw in the middle, medium rare steaks warm and red, medium should be pink. That's exactly how mine came out -- almost uncooked in the center, but it was charred on the outside. That happens to be the way I like it so I was pretty satisfied. And although it wasn't the tenderest ribeye I've ever had, it was quite flavorful and I was pretty satisfied with it. The complimentary salad with vinegar, oil, and blue cheese crumbles that came out first was also delicious. The service was good but not overly attentive or personal. If I were on an expense account I could see coming back to this place, especially for business dinners, but I'm not sure I can justify spending my own money here simply because of the "nickle-and-diming" attitude about the asparagus and the diet cokes. Two or three more spears of asparagus, and a free refill of a fountain drink would go a long way towards making me feel I was getting my money's worth. read more

I have no reason why this place has 3 1/2 stars. It is definitely a "5" star experience. My Grey Goose martini w/blue cheese stuffed olives was ice cold! The family style salad is served at every table. I had the Osso Bucco special with meat that simply fell off the bone. It had marinated 10 hrs b4 and u could tell. A fabulous meal. Went here with my wife and two kids last night. We were greeted by the hostess, who was very nice, and immediately seated. The bread that was brought out was very dry on its own, but was accompanied by some very good butter that made it enjoyable. My wife and I had the porterhouse for two with sautéed mushrooms and roasted red baby potatoes, one son had a sirloin steak and the other filet mignon. We all ordered them medium rare. They all tasted good, but were seared a little too much in my opinion. The outsides were very dark, but the thickest parts of the porterhouse were very rare. Not bad, but at these prices I would expect better. The tab for food, drink and tip was $216. As I said, everything tasted good, but I would expect better than good at these prices. read more

11/13/2017 I've dined at Sapore's in the past but my recent visit for Hudson Valley Restaurant Week left me very disappointed. When I viewed the special menu online, I was impressed so along with 3 other friends, we chose to dine there on Friday, Nov 10th. What a disappointment. We waited at the bar for one friend to arrive and had drinks. $13 for a bloody mary? Seriously?? So our friend arrived and we were seated and placed our orders. I ordered the fried calamari, strip steak and frites and the Kahlua cake for dessert. And I must add that they get zero points for presentation. Imagine my surprise to be served maybe 10 sad little squid rings with a side of marinara for my appetizer. I have to say, the plate looked lonely with such few pieces on it. Next came my steak and frites - I have never seen such a small steak in my life and at best it was maybe a half inch thick (and I'm being generous here). The only normal sized portion was the dessert and by then the damage was done. You would think for HVRW, restaurants would want to put their best foot forward to attract new patrons. If they don't want to make the effort maybe they should consider not being a part of Hudson Valley Restaurant Week read more

Seriously the best steak I've enjoyed at any restaurant ever! Tender, juicy, extremely well flavored. Sides were delicious. My wife's salmon selection was prepared perfectly and was scrumptious. If steak fare isn't your thing, they had pasta , seafood and fowl selections that looked fantastic as they were conveyed by our table. I'm confident that no matter what you might be in the mood for, this place will set you up with something wonderful. The waiter was charming and attentive. His wine pairings were spot on.
