The first time I walked into this place, I saw they had a crepe named after Bryn Mawr, a school that I hate with every fiber in my body (because I went there). A small part of me said "Screw this yuppie joint." but the rest of me was all "No no no let's give it a shot!" Sides, my man likes to eat here. Surely it can't be that bad! Oh well indeed it was that bad! The first time I had chicken with sides that were as boring watching paint dry. Mac and cheese is one of the top ten best foods ever, yet here it reminds me of unhappy noodles with some cheese on top. The meal was boring and could have put me to sleep. We ate here again tonight, and this time I got a burrito with chicken. For the most part the burrito wasn't bad. Poulet/ COOP is a cafeteria that wants to be a music venue. The food is just fair. Sam's Club makes a much better rotisserie Chicken at a third of the cost. And for the music part of this Cafeteria you better have made a reservation for a table a week or two in advance or you won't have a place to sit. They even hold the bar stool for reservations so don't even thing you will get a seat there. Even if you come in two hours early. And this establishment was not designed for acoustics. The bands play way too loud and your ears will be ringing when you leave. Bring ear plugs if you come to this place on a night they have a band. It's too bad Padonia Ale House closed. The salads are wads of lettuce with thin layers of whatever crap you get on top. The crap on top usually tastes like crap, too (roasted vegetables, shrimp, and chicken is what I've had). The roasted vegetable salad tastes like the inside of a slug. The sandwiches are plain Jane with no flavor or anything that make you say a week later "Hey stomach, remember that kick ass sandwich from last week?" Why one star? Funny how the crepes are named after the various private schools in the area. It's those same high schools whose students work at Poulet, eye you up as you go in to place your order and maybe give you your food with a smirk. Besides the less than stellar service is the hit or miss food. My rotisserie turkey was not as juicy as I would have liked as was my friend's chicken. Honestly, you can find much better chicken at the Pennsylvania Dutch Market or dare I say Boston Market. Went back to this place for a refresher because its been a good 5 years + since I've visited and let's say that it was less than what I had remembered. People used to rave about Poulet back in the day and my husband wanted to take me here for lunch but even he wasn't a fan of the food and he's the type that never complains about a meal haha. So yeah, the platter we ordered had one meat and two sides and with the drink tacked on it came to a whopping nearly $15. Good thing we only ordered one platter whew. The pulled pork tasted like it had been leftover from the night before and revived with another batch of barbecue/soy. I don't know what they use in their recipe put it was very salty. I've made a better batch of BBQ with my crockpot and Sweet Baby Ray's. The cornbread stuffing was much too wet for my liking and the flavor was bleh, but the Mac n cheese is what you would expect (reminded me of Boston Market so not bad). We ordered a corn muffin eventually in an attempt to even out the saltiness of the pulled pork but that turned out to be dry and lacking in the flavor department. Honestly, the best part was the fresh brewed tea which tasted "fresh brewed" as stated and a good refresher to our disappointing meal. If I wasn't in good company, I would have probably scrambled out sooner than later. The icing on the cake was the little black hair we found in the cornbread stuffing that my husband refused to let me bring to their attention lol. They really should be wearing hair nets ack! I had really wanted to try their milkshake afterwards because I hear good things about it but after that meal I was a little less enthusiastic about returning to the order line. Stop serving snow cones in styrofoam, please. Besides the environmental strain, the styrofoam cups more easily break apart; I got a small egg custard and the bottom of the cup had a small hole. The syrup leaked out all over me. So now not only do I feel bad about contributing excessive styrofoam to a landfill, only for it to sit for upwards of 500 years, but I have egg custard syrup on my pants. read more

My husband and I stopped here as we were leaving my neurosurgeon's office at Johns Hopkins. The food was decent, but sweetened a bit for my taste. I got bleu cheese stuffed bacon wrapped chicken, but the bacon was glazed, which took away from the otherwise good taste. I also got the cranberry yams (also too sweet but decent flavor) and the creamed spinach, which was good. My husband got chipotle chicken with mashed potatoes and mushrooms, and he liked it all. With our meals, a small salad, and 2 drinks, we paid nearly $30. It was decent, but overpriced in my opinion; no doubt due to its location in this higher end shopping area as well as John's Hopkins. Well when I said I did not want one, and the reason being I like mine with onions and old bay, she looked put out that I would ask such a thing. She proceeded to begin making my wrap when she placed a second scoop of chicken salad on my wrap. The other woman working down the other end of the counter yelled UNO! So she scraped the extra off the wrap, and back into the bin of chicken salad. Ok, so it's supposed to be one scoop...cool. but I ask for onion and old bay...nope we don't have old bay here. We just tried Poulet for the first time. There's A LOT to choose from! They have quick prepared foods to pick up and go like sandwiches and wraps, then there's the hot grill options and hot prepared options. We weren't sure what to get and the staff was super helpful, even letting us try a few things before we ordered an entire platter combo with something. Definitely ask them what they'd recommend if you're stuck in a state of food awe like we were. The bourbon chicken was probably my favorite out of everything we ordered. I'd definitely get it again! The platter combo was more than enough food for me. Not sure if I'd go with the mushrooms again as that was a ton of mushrooms for a side portion. Met my mushroom quota for the month! Usually I only have nice things to say about this establishment, but I will unfortunately NEVER return back. I have a son with a physical and mental disability and when I was hoping to have a nice evening instead of leaving Im tears. I saw and heard one female employee and one male employee mocking and making fun of my son. The whole time I was being "helped" they seemed like they just wanted to rush me out so they could get back to mocking a disabled man and continue their conversation. I will be sharing this with all my fellow friends who visit frequent and hopefully they terminate those despicable employees. The employees name was Emily. She should be fired. She should be ashamed. The catered food from Poulet that sits around after a long meeting.....is still better than some restaurants......I could'nt believe it. The roasted chicken was as flavorful as I have ever tasted. It wasn't salty but very full bodied.....the skin had a nice glaze/caramelization... rich with flavors The grilled salmon tasted great..even after sitting for an hour....* I got to the meeting late*...the outside was still crunchy from grilling...but the center was still moist and tender...was not tough at all. The green beans were flavored with fried onions....garlic....wonderful side dish There was a cucumber tomato salad that was refreshing to eat on such a hot day...... The cookies......are just like home made. I hate it when a restaurant plays price games. When you start to order you food at the counter, the main course is to the right and the logical procession is right to left. So you order you food, and they fill your plate. And it's only when you get to the left side of the counter that you see the prices. But you already have your food and proceed to the check out and get overcharged! I got overcharged because my wife and I ordered 3 chicken quarters. These 3 chicken quarters were more than a whole chicken by over 3 bucks! And two ADULTS at the cash register didn't say one word, except cluck you! If their pricing was better organized and had better presentation, I would have saved my 3 bucks and had a good serving of chicken for lunch the next day. My coworkers were raving about this place for lunch. I tried the grilled salmon platter with green beans and cranberry yams and squash. The salmon was very greasy. The green beans were good. The cranberry yams and squash were SUPER sweet. But I enjoyed the ice cream. Had birthday cake and espresso fudge I think. A nice treat that I never typically have for lunch. Great food in an open environment that kid friendly. The staff was extremely kind and helpful. Additionally, if you have any dietary restrictions this is a great place for gluten free/nut allergy/etc. options. Overall I would rate them a 4/5 star minimum, but felt the need for a 5 based on some of the unfair 1 star reviews received. I am surprised by the sporadic low ratings, but noticed they are all associated with price. I believe the food is worth what you are paying for, which has gratuity built into it basically (you are getting a restaurant like experience, but ordering as if you are going through a cafeteria). If you are headed into or out of downtown via 83, it's easy off on Falls at the exit. Parking is always challenging at Greenspring Station, but if you can't park in their lot, street parking works. Just watch for cars pulling out. My go-to has been the Chicken Jambalaya, with yuimmy Italian Sausage (not real andouille but it;'s got excellent texture) and a great sauce over rice. A couple of times I have gotten the Chicken Bellagio which is supposed to be based on a Cheesecake Factory fave. It's creamy like alfredo with enough basil to be pesto-like. Chicken chunks in that sauce is awesome. It's the best cream spinach, and the other sides are good too. It's an easy set up and you can eat there or take it to your office. One suggestion to make it great: take Discover, it seems strange you pay to take AMEX but not that. Maybe it's a Greenspring Valley snobbery thing.... (Shrug) read more

Let me preface this by saying that I really, really wanted to like this place. It's right near my work so I have frequently seen people at work with food from here that looks and smells delicious. I finally got the chance to go a while ago and we decided to get a few different things we could try because everything looked and smelled awesome. The crepes are named after various private schools in the area. We got the the Gerstell Academy crepe (bourbon chicken, fresh tomatos, and mozzarella) along with some stuffing, caesar salad, and one of the homemade brownies. The homemade brownie was really good... and unfortunately, the only thing I bothered to take more than one bite of. The crepe was horrible, the stuffing was incredibly bland, and the caesar salad was past its prime. This was not a pleasant visit but everything looked and smelled sooo good so I may have to give it another chance soon. read more

(04/23/2012) Stopped by on the way back from Greenspring Station. It's a quick place to grab lunch; the set up is pretty much cafeteria-style. Tried the eponymous poulet: leg quarter rotisserie chicken with 2 sides. Overall, everything was lowest common denominator, salty, cheesy, creamy, lubricious. Creamed spinach was green enough (not overcooked to grey), in a bechamel with touch of parmesan and hint of nutmeg; scalloped potatoes were sliced from fresh, tender to disintegration, layered with what seemed to be American cheese and muenster, so melty and stringy at the same time. The chicken was not really quite like what I expected from a rotisserie chicken; it was very juicy, very salted, skin was bronzed, but not necessarily crisped. If I had to say, it looked like it was brined and baked or rotisseried and heat-lamped or held until steamed. Lots of offerings, pseudo-Chinese, sandiwiches, wraps, sushi (?!). Interesting draw, they make their own ice cream in-house. Would be a convenient place if you work nearby (quick, lots of options), a little pricey for what it is, but locally owned and worth a stop. read more

Let me start out by saying that I live less than a mile from poulet and have been there many times. Let's start out with the negatives: The price-three to four dollars more expensive then it should be per meal. The other negative is the crepes named after the baltimore prep schools... the crepes are the worst part of the menu but the names make them the most enticing item. do not fall for them. On the other hand The sides are all amazing the bourbon chicken is good the chicken tenders are good (all the platters i highly reccommend) The creamed spinach never disappoints the ice cream is great and if you go midday, you can get burgers and pit beef right off of the grill that will not disappoint. So if you are willing to spend three to four dollars more than the place should be charging, avoid the crepes, and try the creamed spinach, this restaurant does have quite a lot of flavor. I always get the Bourbon Chicken platter, with mashed potatoes...and it's amazing. The chicken is fantastic. It gets kind you full fast as the bourbon sauce can be kind of heavy. There's lots to choose from here though...and if you don't want Chicken, they have wraps and salads as well. Everything sold at Poulet is over-priced. The sides are served lukewarm. Lots of flies on the food being served behind the counter.
