What a cool place! I've never been to a taphouse that has so many beers cider and wines to choose from. I was in heaven! They gave you this really cool wristband and all you have to do is tap it to whatever beer you wanna try and then you can pour as much as you want! They have upstairs and downstairs seating, board games, shuffleboard, darts, and TVs spread throughout if you want to catch the game. It's a great place to hang out! The pizza was sooo good! It's Detroit style with a crispy buttery crust. We got the Sizzlin' Sweet Pie which had pineapple, ricotta, bacon, and jalapeños. Delicious! Don't sleep on the fries though! Those things were cooked to perfection, crispy but fluffy on the inside and though they don't look like they are seasoned, they are seasoned perfectly! Perfect Date night with tons of variety and options. I am someone who does not love beer but I do occasionally like to taste some beers to see if it is something in my flavor profile that I can like. Paying just for the amount of ounces poured instead of a whole glass was right up my alley. I was able to sample, beer, cider, and wine all in the same night without feeling like I overindulged. This was by far my favorite experience in rapid city. On top of the selection of beer the food was amazing. We tried one of the pizzas ( prosciutto, arugula and fig)and the flavor profiles were amazing.'perfect compliment to the wine I had poured. Nice place in downtown Rapid City. We were looking for a place on Friday night which is always a problem and most were busy, Pour 54 was not so busy and has multiple floors as needed. It is a simple deal, nice beer selection for sampling and mini-deep dish pizzas that are quite good and filling. The 6" square pizza is perfect for most people so easy to get multiple types to share. In Rapid City, one of the most highly rated options is Pour 54 Taphouse in the quaint downtown. Pour 54 is the only self-serve taphouse around, and it's the first I've ever visited. Briefly, every patron is given a wristband, which they press up to any draught sign to initiate a pour of their desired volume. Drinks are subsequently charged by the ounce. The opportunity to seamlessly try many local beers seemed like a reason enough to pay Pour 54 a visit; the signature Detroit-style pizzas were icing on the cake. Pour 54 doesn't particularly pop against the well-manicured brick buildings along Main St, but you can easily find it right across the street from the can't-miss Firehouse Brewing. Enter into the wide-open, industrial space. The brick and wood-slatted walls are minimally decorated. Sturdy wood-and-metal tables and chairs are organized close to the entrance, while the accent-lit line of draughts is pressed toward the back. The pressed tin ceilings are sky-high; you wouldn't guess that Pour 54 has a full third floor, equipped with a shuffleboard table, another limited draught wall, and a lounge room. Contemporary music plays lightly in the background. We arrived for an early weekend dinner, and plenty of tables were available. A staff member explained the self-pour draught format, and we placed our order for food. Sampling each and every interesting-sounding drink was a breeze; no need to commit to a whole pint. Across the countless varieties, my favorite was the tart B. Nektar Zombie Killer cherry mead. For food, I was most impressed by Pour 54's Detroit Style Pizza; of the size options, definitely opt for the small (6x6) pies, which have a higher proportion of addictively crispy, cheesy crust. My favorite variety was the Art Alley, a decadent riff on spinach and artichoke dip that never felt sloppy or heavy. I didn't mind the Main Street Detroit Style Pizza, although the overcooked pepperoni felt overpowered by the sweet red sauce, and the overall pie didn't feel greasy enough. In contrast to the Detroit pizzas, our Hand Toss round pie was a dud. We opted for the Sizzlin' Sweet Pie in this style, and the ingredients felt chaotic rather than cohesive, while the crust was only a half step above Domino's. Lastly, the Chopped Cucumber Caprese Board was wholly standard. Each ingredient felt like something that could be purchased at Trader Joe's, but the combination was easy to eat and share among the party. Service was helpful and attentive (folks were quick to bring carafes of water and bus dirty dishes). Beer got a tad pricey, but the food charges were reasonable (each pie was under $15). Nothing at Pour 54 will knock your socks off, but the taphouse exceeded my tempered expectations of South Dakota. Just be sure to stick with the Detroit pies, and nothing will be a true dud. read more

The space is much larger than it looks from the outside and very nicely designed. Larger tables plus cozy two person spaces to enjoy a more intimate conversation and a drink. Huge space upstairs that looks like you could rent for large parties. We went for a family dinner and I appreciated the self pour as I wanted to try a few but only wanted a few ounces of each. Pizzas were very good! Probably the best we've had in Rapid. I had the bbq chicken and others had the pepperoni and meat and all enjoyed. So.. it's gone down hill quite a bit; we've written it off as a consideration when we meet friends. It pains me to state this because, at the beginning, it was the best pizza in town! They have the highest tap beer prices in the Black Hills and the "robotic taps" work poorly, you'll end up paying full price for a glass foam. Oh, they'll agree to remove the charge and have "someone look at the keg issues" but they never do. Just take a look at your receipt. I question how often they clean the tap lines. They're also stingy with pizza ingredients. I don't recall the price but I requested an additional topping of pepperoni, which meant one single slice of pepperoni per pizza slice. Those of you that read this and have experience working in a kitchen will understand when I say their ingredients taste "old." This is my new favorite restaurant in Rapid City! The selection of beers, ciders and wines is astonishing! The pizza is amazing! I am definitely coming back whenever I'm in Rapid. It's a multi-level self-serve taphouse with offerings on every floor. You get a wristband when you arrive and can try as many and as much of the brews as you want, and pay for it all when you leave. I love hard ciders and there are more here than anywhere I've ever seen. Now the food: lots of different starters (but I didn't try any). Ordering a few of these would probably make a nice meal. Their main offerings are pizzas, both "Detroit style" and hand-thrown. I never heard of Detroit style before, but now I'm a believer. It's a thick-crust, square pan pizza, loaded with toppings and baked to perfection with crispy, caramelized edges. The 6"x6" size is just right for one person. This place is all about the beer! Let me start by explaining the mechanics of this place. You get a special bracelet allowing you to pour any of their dozens of beers on tap freely. You get charged by the 1/10th ounce, so feel free to sample before committing to a full glass. I suggest that even after "committing," stick with half glasses because you can enjoy even more beers. They serve tasty food that is, more appropriately, well suited to absorbing the beer you're drinking. The staff was also friendly and helpful. I imagine a large part of the friendliness was not having to lug drinks to their customers. This is a great concept and an excellent place for beer lovers to gather. Okay so this was a unique experience for us, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. So I've been to breweries and taprooms where you can have a flight of smaller beers to try more of a variety but I've never seen self serve charge by the ounce machines. We got to try like 20+ types of beers; many of them local to south dekota and the Midwest, and we were charged only for the amount we poured! The service there was good, they explained to us how things worked in detail; they gave us wristbands and you use those bands to activate the machine to pour your drink, the whole time you see how many ounces is being added up, kind of like a gas pump meter as it's tallying up your total and you can stop at any time. Loved the raw straightforward taproom vibe with over 50 varieties of beers, wine and cider. I would definitely come back here again if I were to ever return to south dekota. read more

Never been to a pour your own brew tap house before and the awesome lady at the register got all us checked in (scanned IDs, started a tab, gave us wristbands) and then took us on a mini tour. She showed us the tap wall, (including wine, seltzer and cider!) and how the system works. She also noted to grab fresh glasses each pour and where to put dirty ones. You can also pour your own water! The spot has 3 floors. The night we came they had Bingo on the 3rd floor- how fun! Don't sleep on the food either-- the Detroit style pizzas were fire. Loved the Black Tie Piggy and Sizzling Sweetie. The 10-75 was spicy, but not unbearable. Also really enjoyed the fried green beans and meatballs. A find in downtown RC. There are a bunch of tourist traps here and the Italian place gave us the sad smile and said sorry we are booked for a private party tonight. So off we went. Whoever was the gal at the front of the house deserves a raise! We walked in and she explained you get a bracelet to operate the tap to pour as much as you want of the beer, cider and wine. But, we asked, what about food? You order via an app. But what food do you have, we said. She said pizza. We paused. But, she said, it's really really great pizza!! So in we went. She sold us. The beer was an ok selection, would have expected more variety. The only Pilsner was lime flavored and vaguely smelled like a cleaning solution. A lot of flavored beers and not all that many classics but there was a red ale that was decent. Didn't really like the ciders and the wines were meh. So what did we like? The place has a chic industrial clean design which we loved. And the menu, although limited, was great with beer. Mini Detroit style pizza was awesome with that crispy burnt cheese edge. The meatballs were great and decent pretzels with dip although they could have salted the outside of the pretzels. Ordering was simple and service was fast and warm. Our server was really helpful and friendly. So a really nice casual dinner in a cool location with a warm and attentive staff. If they upped the beer game, I'd give them a 5 because this is a welcome change in this downtown dining scene. read more

This is a nice place for meeting up with friends as the Taphouse has a drink for everyone, wines and ciders are options too. A group of 9 of us went to Rapid City to work an event. So each night was constantly trying to figure out a way to find a place ahead of time. It was a larger event, so everyone was out and about trying to eat at the same time. We were actually waiting way longer than said for a table across the street. We saw this place and decided to go have a beer while waiting. As soon as we walked in, we were really impressed. 3 floors full of tables, beers, wine, seltzers, etc. We were greeted very kindly and they smoothly explained how everything worked. It was so easy and we found a table for all of us upstairs immediately. We ended up staying here and eating too. And wow, were we all just thrilled at how great the food was. There aren't many options, but that was ok because it was so good. The pizza was super legit. Everything was, honestly. I was just loving how easy it was to order and pay from your phone too. Believe it or not, here is too much self service. :) The beer and wine I get because that's the point. But from finding a table to even getting your own water, or needing a napkin you're on your own. Waitstaff (if you can find them) should feel guilty for asking for a tip there so much self service here. There are 3 sets of stairs and I didn't see an elevator so if you need help with that check on it before you come in. The day I was in the wifi was down and no one was concerned about it. But in a place where all of you services like the menu and payment are done on a phone that should be a priority. Plus it's on the website. Food was great. It's a nice place to socialize. Though it was very noisy. The really high ceilings allow sound to travel. Good mix of ages. If you are into masks for COVID safety ON ONE is masked, and some of the clientele "know their rights."
