Unpleasant experience every time till I eventually stop going there! I used to go this place pick up wines whenever I went to see friends who live a few of blocks from this store. But I never felt comfortable with their service. The staff are ignorant to me most of the time , reluctant to answer questions . But I managed not to be bothered until last time , which was about half year ago, after I picked up 4 bottles of wine , which in total about $130, and ready to pay at the cashier , the guy ( I guess he was the owner or manager )behind the cashier refused to take my 100 dollar bill , saying that they don't accept big bills like that . So I had to pay it with my credit card. As he put four bottles in two bags I asked if he can double bag one of them because I need to carry that one back home which is quite a walk( one bag for the friend I was about to visit who lived a few blocks away so I don't need to worry about the bag gets broke) . But the guy was unhappy with my request and told me his bag was designed to carry two bottles at a time ! As much as I wanted to return all the wines back right there but I just quietly left and told myself never step my foot into that shop. I was quite shocked by that, come on ! This is not a 99 cent store , this is a wine store with sales up to thousands daily ! Afterwards I asked my friend who also goes there from time to time, he said he had paid with a 100s bills before. Wonderful set up inside the store. Great and varied selection with really knowledgeable staff. The customer service is great. I have really loved every bottle I've ever gotten here. That being said, however, I understand that the customer service, convenient location and nice store deserves a slight mark up but I've found $18-20 here $12-13 elsewhere in New York. You should shop here for wine because... - there's an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff - they have a small but high quality selection, making this shop less dizzying & intimidating than many others - they have a unique organizing scheme -- they group wines by characteristics (e.g., "bold", "velvety") and pairing suggestions rather than by region, so you don't end up staring at aisles and aisles of wines which seem identical to you because you have not dedicated your life to oenophila and the close study of terroir - they print up little notes for most of their wines, describing the wine's tasting notes and background - they're not too snooty to sell a few of the better box wines - they have a very flexible wine club/subscription--you can get 2 or more wines, delivered once a month, at a price point of your choosing, and they take care to tailor the selections to whatever you want--like if you want only California reds, they'll probably do that. On the down side... - this place is a bit pricier than others, maybe? - delivery is a little annoying -- they use a delivery model like food delivery, where you're expected to be there and tip the deliverer. I'm never home, so my doorman accepts the delivery--he ends up confused and the deliverer gets nothing. (UPDATE: If you ask the the folks at the store, they'll tack on your tip to the bill, so that makes this easy.) read more

I love, love, love this shop. It's small but very welcoming and they typically have wine tastings in the center of the store complete with flavors that are new and exciting for the palate. They've got tons of great wines at reasonable prices (in fact I've found a few that are only $10-15) and the staff is super friendly, never pushy, and great with suggestions. Also, they have simple but well-written descriptions of each wine that reflect pretty much what you're going to get. One of my favorite aspects is that they keep a list of all the bottles you've purchased on a database, so if you buy something that you loved but were too toasty to remember the label, just give them your last name and they'll help you figure it out. I was horrified by the rudeness of the man working here tonight. I have never complained about an establishment before, but this was too much. I walked into the store and saw the young man working there and another man drinking wine. I said, "Oh, are you tasting?". The man pouring---very tall, wandering eye (I am describing him so that you know who I mean. He should be fired)--was extremely dismissive. He clearly didn't want to pour for me. Eventually he asked me what I which one I wanted to taste. I asked about the red wine. I didn't recognize the name of a grape and said "what is ....". He responded, "A GRAPE". After that, I decided to try the rose. He poured it right on top of the red that was in the glass and said, "you won't be able to taste it after the red." He was rude and condescending. I didn't choose to mention that I have worked in the food business for 25 years, so I know how to have a conversation about wine. What a creep. I don't know whether he was being sexist (I am a woman) or judging my looks, but I was shocked. I live in the neighborhood and have purchased at your store before. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Walked in to buy bottle of wine. Didn't realize they closed at 930 ( it was 935) but door was open. 2 people at register. I say hi. Person at register says we closed 5 minutes ago ( but door unlocked with no sign stating they were closed) snaps at me and tells me to be quick. I work as a retail manager and understand when a store is closing and your trying to close but it seems as though you have nothing to do but close the register. So... great customer service. Pour is owned by people who really enjoy wine and have fun with it. I'm pretty ignorant about wine, but I've rarely if ever been disappointed by my Pour purchases. They keep a record of what you've bought (if you want them to, obviously), so then if you forget the name of something you liked they can help you figure it out. These guys are really nice. When I want something slightly more expensive than Best Cellars (aka Best Bottles) on Broadway to bring somewhere or pour down my gullet, I come here. It's definitely more of a boutique vs the calmer/more pedestrian options of Best Bottles or the massive overwhelmingness of Beacon, so I'd say come here if you want something interesting. They nicely have a loyalty program where they can track what you bought if you have as forgetful of a palate as I do, but if you're not into that whole NSA thing, you can just shop and run. read more

Great location (I love stopping by after work, especially if it's a day that deserves a bottle of wine...) and great staff make this store awesome. The staff is friendly and super knowledgeable, which is great for a wine dope like me. They've recommended some fantastic bubbly wines--and I love that they keep track of what I buy so I know I'll get more of what I want! The way the store is arranged is also great, as said previously. Pour's organization and approach to wine lends it a great charm that you can't help but like. The wine is organized by food, not by region, so all the wine for seafood goes in a section, all the wine for beef goes in a section, etc. There are great little cards that accompany the wine and help the buyer remember the details about the wine. The customer service is outstanding, and the wine tasting selections are usually pretty good. It's definitely my favorite wine shop in NYC. read more

Great shop owned and operated by people who really know wine. I was glad to see that Pour has arranged their merchandise into sections. "Bubbly," "Velvety," etc. are some of the titles you see clearly written above the sections, along with food pairings (i.e,, hors d'ouvres, cheese.) Under each wine, you will find the year, organic/biodynamic status, and a brief but comprehensive description of the product. Fun to read, and you can easily tell which wines are the staff favorites. They definitely have a sense of humor. I picked up a fabulous unfiltered, organic wine and a biodynamic sparkling named "You are so bubbly." This is my neighborhood wine store, Pour never lets me down. Why is it so great? Here is why: 1. It is reasonable. You think if you go to a wine store that a lot of the inventory is going to comprise of more expensive wine, like $50 and up. At Pour you won't find a bottle over $40, and they're few and far between. You can get a great bottle of wine for $15. That is something special, and not enough props can be given for that. 2. The service is super. If I need a recommendation, the owner always gives me a superb recommendation at my price point. I would drink anything he recommended at this point. 3. You get a lot for your money. I've never had a bottle of wine here and thought, "this wasn't worth it." 4. They have a rewards program, so if you buy a certain amount of wine, you get a little off your next purchase. At an already fair price. I'm very devoted to Pour, and would highly recommend it to anyone. read more

The man (who I'm assuming was the owner) who helped me find a wine was incredibly nice. I told him what I liked (Riesling), and he pointed me to three not Rieslings that he thought would remind me of the sweetness that I like. I ended up picking a Gewurztraminer, and I don't think I would have ever run into this type of wine without his suggestion. The free wine tasting was also helpful and very enthusiastic! However, the man administering it was not at all helpful. He was pretentious and kind of condescending. From what I understand, he didn't work at the store but was there because his product was one of the new ones being showcased. My only only caveat with this store is that it is more expensive than others. That said, you're paying for both location (Upper West Side) and amazing service. I think I'll probably come here once in awhile to find something new, but I can't afford to come here for every new bottle (keep in mind, I'm a student, so my budget is low). Also they have a great loyalty program. It was something like buy 6 or 10 bottles and get $15 credit to the store. Great wine shop right near 72nd street on the UWS. Its a small shop, but great selection with a cute atmosphere. The selection under $12 was kind of small, but plenty in the $15 range. The staff was helpful, but didn't follow you around judging your selections. This place is an amazing little wine shop in the upper west side. This great place for all people interested in wine, whether you're new to wine or you've been drinking wine for a while. The store is well organized based flavor profiles for each wine and well and detailed fact sheet describing various things like pairings. Also to note that the wines are not too expensive, the most expensive wine was $35. And they have a loyalty rewards program? WHAT!? So when you buy enough wine you get $15 store credit... that's awesome. The store staff was also very helpful, very knowledgeable and friendly. Wine tastings throughout the week too. This place sells really high quality wines at great prices, and has a loyalty points system. You get a point for every bottle you buy and the points kind of equal a dollar. So you get to accumulate them, laugh at how many points you have and then use that to get free bottles. They also do tastings all the time- it's a great spot. read more

I love Pour. They offer personalized service, a highly selective selection, and informative wine tastings and wine courses. Additionally, Pour is really the most cutting edge wine store on the UWS. The in-store customer experience is superb; the information architecture of store (the layout, the labeling, the physical organization) is both attractive and helpful. They track your purchasing information to both serve you better and give you special offers; they use email to communicate; they track down wines you lust after and do special orders. I really can't say enough good things about them except that I can't wait for them to expand so I can try to influence more of what they stock. :-) read more

LOVE IT! hard to imagine that a wine shop could be so unique, but "pour" is. The way it is categorized by how wines pair with food is brilliant. and of course they have great wines and so affordable. They also ship to many states so that really saves time and energy for gift giving as well as having a case of sommelier picked wines delivered as gifts. Everyone is super helpful and can make great recommendations because they KNOW their selection. I also love that the store isn't an enormous emporium where you need a PhD to find a good bottle at a good price. Wine selection is decent. I agree that most staff are nice and down to earth, but not all. Equally good, if not better, wine selection can be found a few blocks away. AND customer service can be certainly improved. While the wine selection is decent, I do believe there are better stores literally down the block. The labels do make it simple, but I have to say that for a wine store that sells itself as a boutique wine store...it's customer service is seriously lacking. I've been patronizing this store since it opened, and while Pour seemed to fill a need on the UWS - at that time - for a less overwhelming experience than a larger wine store like Astor or Beacon wines, I've found myself spending my time and my dollars at Beacon and Amsterdam Wines (both 2-5 minute walk from Pour) simply because the service is, well, better. I won't argue that the owners and store managers know about wine, but I do wish they communicate their wine knowledge in a less arrogant way. Brought in a corked bottle of wine and was told it was "against the law" for them to refund the value of the bottle. Since the bottle was sold out, there was nothing they could do. This is the first time I've heard of this law, and while I'm not doubting that this law is actually in place - I have brought back corked wines to other stores and have been refunded money or provided a store credit. To me, this is a form of customer service. It's easy to be 'nice', but the customer service really shows when you see how the business handles harder cases. Trusting the customer in this case would have kept me a patron. They have now lost me to the multiple other wine stores (which also offer 'boutique' wine store experience) that are a few blocks away. read more

I moved into the neighborhood about a year and a half ago and sooo wanted to love this place. They advertise on the window "most wines under $25", which of course leads the consumer to assume it's some type of budget wine store. The problem is that one can now easily look up average prices of wine online or with an app. If you're selling a $14 bottle for $20, sorry, but that's not a money saver. I went once and have not returned. There are better options for price and selection in the 'hood. read more

I hate to do this, b/c it's my local wine store, but the prices at this place are 100 percent out of line - even compared to other, local UWS and NYC wine shops. Take their bottle of Evodia, for example. They charge 16.00 a bottle for this. Just down the block, at the wine shop on 81st and B'way, it's 14 dollars. Up a little farther up (they do free deliveries) at the wine store on 107th and broadway, they charge 11 dollars. This is merely one example. It's so egregious, in fact, that I actually just bought a case of Dolcetto D'Alba (Pour happens to sell my favorite one in the world) from Tribeca Wine Store for 5 dollars less a bottle and free delivery.
