Best Alterations Shop in the area. They do a fine job on anything, including removing pleats out of men's suit pants or tuxedo pants. No matter what your alteration needs are, they seem to be able to do it all. I had a few tops that needed to be shortened, and the hemline looks just as good as the original hemline when I bought the items. Very well priced too. Two side notes: They are closed on Sundays and Mondays and they only except check or cash. Highly recommend. read more

Looking for a great seamstress forever that could alter garments to fit my petite silhouette. Found Kim through yelp, i feel so lucky cause she's awesome! The first time I step in her store is for my white by vera wang wedding gown. Another customer in the store told me she had Kim did her wedding gown too. The result came out well so I had my reception gown and another dress I liked a lot but purchased 2 size larger than my regular fitting. She does such a great job, both three dresses fit me like gloves. She is professional, friendly, with VERY reasonable charge. I brought my wedding dress here after making the HUGE mistake of ordering it online. I honestly didn't know what needed to be done to it to get it fixed. It seriously looked like a mess! Like something threw up a bunch of fabric. Anyway, I brought it here. The owner of the shop is so nice and genuinely cares about what the customer wants...and she definitely knows her stuff! I brought in my dress the beginning of December and my wedding was on 1/14/12. She told me that we were going to do a step-by-step and that I would have to return once a week, torward the end it was twice a week, to keep trying it on. There were times that she would fix it, I'd come try it on and SHE didn't like how it looked so she cut the threads and told me that she would re-do it. That only showed me that she isn't the typical "just want to get the job finished" type and really cared about making the client happy. There were times when I didn't know what I wanted and I just asked her opinion because she's obviously been in this business for a very long time. She was always helpful and laced up my dress and undid it for me. I am sooo thrilled that I found this place. I was so pleased with her and her work, even before my dress was entirely done, that I told my bridesmaids. 3 out of 4 took their dresses here to be hemmed and steamed. As much as I hate to admit it, I totally did not get the seamstress/owner's name but she was such a wonderful seamstress to work with. My applique needed to be sown onto my wedding dress and did so perfectly. I came in several times in the course of a couple of weeks and she showed nothing but patience, care and utmost respect for my wishes. Today I had my last fitting, and mind you it was a Monday and they were closed, yet she still allowed me to come in knowing that I had to work all week. I absolutely loved the way my dress turned out and loved the way it fit that I couldnt help hugging her several times because I was so overjoyed. I recently got married and the bridal shop I bought my dress from did not have an in-house seamstress, so I was reluctantly left to find a seamstress who I could trust to alter my dress. Given that my dress was $2500 I was very nervous about finding someone to take it to. I searched Yelp for a couple days and decided to take my dress to Poway Alterations based upon their consistently stellar reviews. I was not disappointed! I called about a month out from my wedding and made an appointment to take my wedding dress in to get altered. For something that may require extensive alterations I believe they prefer you make an appointment because it does take time to prep the dress for the alterations once it is on you and this shop is very busy. Kim is absolutely amazing at what she can do and the time she can do it in! My dress had two layers (lace and crepe) that had to be hemmed up many inches, the sides with beading had to be taken in,and a double bustle had to be added as well. To my surprise Kim took it upon herself to take the extra lace appliqués from the material that was removed and add it to the bottom of the dress around the front so the dress flowed better. I went in for a second fitting 2 weeks prior to my wedding and then a final fitting one week before my wedding. My mother also ended up taking her dress for my wedding here and I took my rehearsal dinner pants here to get them hemmed up a couple inches one week prior to the dinner. Kim and her family went above and beyond my expectations and their prices are beyond reasonable for the quality of work they do. I will definitely be taking more articles of clothing here in the future to get altered. read more

The women here have never failed to disappoint me. Have brought it at least 20 garments here to either get hemmed or taken in and they've all looked great. Brought my wedding dress here. After being quoted $250 dollars at the bridal shop for a hem (that I didn't want because it would mess up the proportions of the dress), taking in of the waist and bustle....I came here. $60 dollars later, I got my dress back which now fit me perfectly, had the bustle, and didn't need a hem (she brought it so it fit higher on my torso). They've also got a quick turnaround too! Most of my garments come back within a week, quicker if I needed it last minute. My wedding dress was done in 2 weeks! Notes: They don't accept credit card. Only personal check (if you pay when you drop off your stuff) and cash (if you pay when you pick up). She said they had issues with people who wrote them bad checks when they picked up. read more

I actually brought my wedding dress here, which needed a lot of alterations (including adding a corset to the back). I bought it second-hand, and didn't feel like taking it to a bridal store where I was sure I'd be ripped off. I can't say I've had many wedding dresses altered, but from what I've heard from friends, I was charged a very fair price for everything I had done. I'll admit that there was a bit of a language barrier, but the seamstress knew exactly what I wanted done after I tried the dress on in front of her. they can sew, but they're absolutely horrific to deal with. took a dress in to be taken in and shortened, and had to have it re-shortened because the lady decided to ignore what I asked and not shorten it. when i showed her what i had originally wanted and asked her to actually do it, she got very judgmental and rude, as if she's my mother and gets to say how short i can or can't get my dress. end product was good, but I had to come in 4 separate times and deal with judgy comments so beware of the bad customer service if you come in. read more

I have been taking my clothes here for alterations for a couple months now. The job they do is okay. Their customer service on the other hand is awful! They do not deserve our business. Today I walked in with several items as I typically do on a weekly basis. I brought in a crib rail cover that needed to be cut in half in a straight line and sewn together in a straight line. A job that would take literally one minute. They wanted to charge me more than they would charge to do a circular him on the bottom of a pair of jeans. I asked if they would deduct five dollars since I had other items in my hand and like I said I come in weekly. The woman made a huge fuss and said she didn't care if she lost my business. So on that note, I took my items and walked out. I go to yelp for most businesses and take reviews seriously. If you do too, find a different alteration business. read more

So far so amazing. I've been working with Kim for about 3 weeks now. I purchased a wedding dress that was about 5 sizes too big. It is lace so I was so nervous bringing it anywhere. We have made an appointment to measure it out after she hems it piece by piece. She has really shown care and spent a good amount of time working on it. I feel like she really cares about it. I prepaid for the work I had done as I knew I would be in a hurry on the day that I picked it up. Everything seemed great during the process. They even called me to check up on something as they were working on my order which I appreciated. However, when I showed up to get the items they demanded more money because they had had to do a different kind of hem on one of them. No apology, just the demand for more money when I had already paid and consulted with them twice. I paid the extra but I won't be back. I prefer to deal with businesses that don't engage in this kind of mildly unethical practice. read more

Altered my bridesmaid dress here a few weeks ago and I'm overall pleased with my experience. To take some material in and to hem I was charged $55 - not so bad. The only thing was that my dress was still a little loose on the sides, but I didn't mind it so much. Don't even know how many years I've been going to Kim at Poway Alteration Center (at least 5), but she and her team are amazing! I've taken Girl Scout patches to be sewn on, hems, hole repairs, clothes to be taken in and out, and a set of sheers for my kitchen sliding door.
