They will also keep the original hem on any denim alterations. You can either pay cash when you pick it up or pay by check when you drop your order. read more

I came in with a suit for a wedding that needed the pants finished and the jacket sleeves let out. They finished the job when they said they would for a fair price. Best thing though, was that it was perfect. I was worried about having to get it re-done after trying it on, but it was spot-on. I will be coming back for my future tailoring needs. read more

Great place for alterations, repairs and embellishment. Both of the embroidery shops I have worked for in the Poway/Mira Mesa area have used Poway Alterations Center for work that we can't do in our shops. Kim is an expert seamstress, her work is amazing, prices are great and she always has our stuff ready when she says it will be done, plus she is super nice! This is the best place in poway and her prices are reasonable. When I was little she made all of my pageant outfits(have been using her for over 20 years). She also helped with my wedding dress. Last time I was in the shop there were a couple of customers waiting to be fitted and the dresses she brought out were absolutely beautiful. She is honest and will turn away customers if she is too busy because she doesn't want to rush and have the quality of her work comprised. The Poway High School Choral Boosters were looking for an alteration shop to assist with maintaining the performance wear, including gowns and tuxedos, used by the choir students. I met with Kim to discuss our needs and found her to be friendly and very experienced. She understood exactly what our needs would be. I took my wedding gown here to get altered. I was quoted $600 by another alterations spot in town and thought that was crazy so I took it down the street and got a much more reasonable price. My dress was all lace so I was a little nervous but they did such a wonderful job. I had 5 or 6 appointments to make sure it was perfect. I've been coming here for my alterations for years! Very friendly and they always do a good job for a fair price and on time!

Affordable prices and very friendly service! I used to take my designer jeans to a shop on MIramar Road to get hemming with the original hem but I found their work to be sloppy. They would leave a wide flap of material inside the hem which would cause the pant leg to flip upward. Poway Alteration's work does not include the flap and my pant legs have never flipped upward. The seamstress also ensured all of the stray threads were neatly trimmed before handing over the jeans. read more

I've lived in Poway for 20 years and grew up with my mom entrusting all of our alterations to Kim. I probably will never move away from the area because a seamstress this good is nearly impossible to find! She is the best around, provides quality tailoring and alterations at a VERY reasonable price, always a quick turn-around (even during Prom and Graduation season!!), and consistent customer service. I can't believe the reviews of this business describing the owner Kim as "friendly; courteous; plus she has a great personality; and prices astonishing reasonable". I went into this business today with four shifts that needed the armholes taken in because I lost weight and you could see my bra under my arms. There wasn't anything special about these shifts, just regular items I paid about $14.99 each on sale last year. There were two female customers ahead of me who were obviously friends with the owner, and the male employee was working on both of these women; one elderly woman needing her new white pants hemmed, and the other female wanting the couple of T-shirts shortened around the waist and taken in. Another elderly female came in to pick up her skirt or jacket, and the male rushed to get her item. She left a check for $6.00 on the counter and I thought "oh wow, pretty decent prices here!" The male was frustrated because he was doing all the work upfront, so he spoke either Korean or Vietnamese in a sharp tone to whomever was working in the back. I had entered the dressing room as instructed by the male to wait for the person he called up front to help him. When I stepped out of the dressing room, the female employee's first words out of her mouth to me were rude, commenting "too much work!". I asked her about adjusting the armholes and showed her I had four shifts I needed done. I asked her what it would cost, and without looking, said $20.00 apiece. I commented, "$20.00?, these shifts didn't even cost that much to buy." It was so obvious she didn't want to do the work, so she knew if she quoted an outrageous price, I would be crazy to spend that amount on each shift, and she could go back to whatever she was doing. I looked over at the male employee, who was now standing behind the counter, embarrassed. I later read the comments on this business, and someone wrote "she will turn away customers if she is too busy." Ok, fair enough, but how about being honest to new customers that you don't want their business, and don't be rude either!! So, comments that she is "friendly, courteous, she has a great personality, looking for value," are a bunch of bull. The positive reviews obviously apply only to her customers whom she's known for many years, especially the "$6 lady". I left and immediately looked up another alteration shop three blocks away on Poway Rd, "CAM'S Alterations and Weaving". I took my 4 shift dresses there, was met by a VERY FRIENDLY and PROFESSIONAL family owned husband and wife business, who was also Asian. Difference was, they didn't have nasty attitudes like Kim. I'm 66 years old, born and raised in San Diego, and treat others with respect, dignity and manners. I guess I expected the same from Poway Alterations, but instead was disappointed that this place thinks they are it, especially Kim! Well, word of mouth goes a long way, so I will definitely pass along the rude treatment, etc, I experienced at Poway Alterations to others. If I could rate this place less than zero, I would. Kim needs a definite attitude adjustment. Just hope she stays in business with her customer "friends", and her so called "reasonable prices." read more

If you were raised in an Asian family you will eventually need a tailor, because your parent will train you to wear clothes that are 2 sizes to big for you. The husband is no exception, and that's why we brought a dozen pieces for Kim to fix. We have never been to a tailor before and was not sure how everything worked, but Kim was very friendly (and direct) and explained everything so we can understand. $12/shirt was a bit expensive we thought, but much better than buying new shirts! Gave it a try and was very happy with the results. This lady is good. It's no wonder, because she's been doing this for 30 years. She spends a few minutes with you after you try on each garment needing to be altered and off you go. The alterations were completed within a reasonable amount of time and we were very happy with the overall experience. This week we brought a few more things back. Think we found our tailor! read more

This is THE BEST place for alterations in the North County area, hands down. Kim, the owner, and her crew are miracle workers. My mom found this place. Mom is 4'10", and has to have everything altered. My daughter is 5'0", and also has everything altered. My daughter has thin legs, so pants must be altered not only in length, but from the knee down they need to be taken in. As for me, I had a quickie wedding, and had bought my dress 2 weeks before the wedding. The real kicker was that I needed the dress hemmed and taken in, and needed it done in 1 week (we were going out of town for the ceremony). Kim pulled it off, and only charged $45. Recently, my mother in law passed away. Her 'final' outfit needed to be altered. I took the skirt to Kim. Unfortunately, the next day, my mother in law died. I needed the outfit back from Kim before the mortuary arrived (giving Kim only 5 hours). Even with the time constraint, Kim was able to get the outfit completed, and did it graciously. If you have anything that needs altering, you HAVE to bring it to Kim. read more

I get a lot of patches sewn on my boys' and husband's scout uniforms. I'm now at the point of having them moved to new uniforms and I find the prices astonishingly reasonable. Like "are you sure you don't want to charge me more?" reasonable. they always know where to put the patches so I don't have to do any of the homework myself. I'm always recommending her to the other moms. And the thing is I sew. But it's worth it to me to not have to lug out the machine for one patch at a time. read more

After being told to change, I stood waiting 15 minutes shoeless facing a mirror for measurement of pant waist reduction. Three workers were there. Asked twice but they said they were busy finishing sewing for another customer, but I was only one there. I could tell they didn't care. Like I'm bothering them. Finally left and they could have cared less. read more

I am so incredibly happy to give glowing reviews for Kim and all the staff at Poway Alteration Center. I went to Kim to alter my wedding dress based on a recommendation from a friend. My friend and her boyfriend have used Kim for years. I bought my dress online, and I wanted quite a bit of alterations... obvious hemming & bustle, but also sides taken in, straps adjusted, and back opened & lowered. The dress was lace/beading, and it looked 100% (or more) better than when I first received it from the online company. The price was very reasonable, and even during her busiest prom season she was able to get my dressed done within a couple months before the wedding. I have been getting pants hemmed and shirt sleeves shortened for almost a decade. I had an incident about 6 years ago where they did not keep the original hem at the bottom of each pant leg. I was leaving for the east-coast the next day and got very upset. She remained professional and was able to fix the pants and was kind enough to let bygones be bygones and let me continue to come back. I actually am about to get three new pairs of pants hemmed soon and wanted to double check the hours of operation. read more

This place is AMAZING!!!!! I happened to find this place one day. I took a bridesmaids dress here because it needed to be fixed BADLY. I brought it in, she did all the measurments and saw what was wrong. Got it back in 1 week for a fantastic price and it fit perfectly!! So, when I got married I took my wedding dress in.
