I came to Poway Auto Repair on a whim and they were able to help me right away. They took out the rat, cleaned and deodorized and replaced the air filter - all for a reasonable price. An update. Well they did their research and figured out who I was. Kudos to that :) Second Kudos, was calling my hubby (a motorhead) and finding out more about what happened. The machine probably was inaccurate, and my stepson was in a hurry to get to work. Bottom line after this follow up: I'd give them another shot. They refunded the smog test we failed, offered us a free oil change and apologized. And simply the fact that they followed up on this, to me, is huge. Incredibly happy with Jose and Scotty and the help they gave today. After my car broke down late yesterday I got it towed home. Started looking for a mechanic today after having recently moved to town (not my favorite way to spend a Saturday). Poway Auto Repair was the first place I called and the price for a diagnostic was right on. I had charged my battery overnight, it lasted to within almost a mile of the shop. When I called Jose to let him know it had died again, he sent one of his guys over to tow it to the shop. Within a few minutes they had it diagnosed as the alternator. This was about 11:30 on Saturday morning. Scotty told me they'd probably have it done today. I noticed after getting home they closed at 1:00 on Saturdays, so I figured they didn't have enough time and I'd get a call on Monday to pick it up, no big deal. Imagine my surprise when Scotty called around 2:30 and told me it would be ready in 40 minutes. These guys stayed late to get my car finished up. Yes, the parts (alternator) are more expensive than I'd be able to get online. Absolutely worth it to me to have it done this fast, with no hassle. I very much hate writing bad reviews but unfortunately this one is needed. I used to bring my cars here all the time, I'm not sure what happend but this place has become one of those car shops you hate going to because you know you are going to get taken advantage of. I brought my car in for a simple, small issue. Apparently just to find the problem (which took the other shop I went to after I left here due to bad service and rip off pricing about 2 minutes to find) I was supposed to pay 200. Then to fix a tiny issue (the other shop fixed in under an hour and charged 140) I was expected to pay 800 and up!!!! And when I simply asked to explain the pricing, am I paying for labor, parts, etc? And what exactly is being fixed just so we're on the same page and I can see where my money is going, I get talked to like I'm an idiot for asking questions and told an even higher price than the beginning which I can only assume is because I upset the owner by asking for specifics ( the original price was between 350-1000 which is also insane, but after asking questions was a definite 800 and up, I know makes total sense). Then I guess he got so upset he told me he refused to work on my car altogether, which I was very glad to go pick it up and get far away from there. I went to another shop where the other owner was extremely kind, amazing service, very simply explained exactly what was wrong and what was needed to fix it. Instead of paying 800 I paid 140!!! Not only was this shop charging me over 600 extra but I just don't understand how you would think it's ok have such terrible service towards customers. Anyone coming to get their car fixed is usually hesitant as we all know there are many car shops out there that overprice, but to add the dishonesty and just plain rudeness is beyond me. I called a few other shops before going to the one I did and every single one was 1000x kinder than the owner was here. Not one had any difficulty explaining what I'm paying for or what's wrong with my vehicle. I'm so glad I learned early on so that I never, ever come back here but I had to write this and warn others because it's just very disheartening and I would hate for anyone else to deal with this and waste 100s and probably 1000s of dollars! read more

These guys are crooks, dishonest and totally incompetent. Took my Nissan Xterra for a smog diagnosis. 1. They broke the O2 sensor connector on one of the sensors. Didn't tell me it had been broken. Charged me $180 for the "diagnosis". 2. Were going to replace the 4 sensors and bill me for the parts and labor - $1,400.00. Instead I took the car elsewhere. I was told the problem was a ground wire and controller fuse. It was fixed for $127.00 DO NOT use Poway Auto Repair unless you want to get ripped off! read more

Poway Auto Repair is the best! I had an emergency with one of my tires 30 minutes before they closed one day. I happened to be nearby, called, and when I pulled in, they immediately took it back. Not only did they offer to put on my spare for me, but they were actually able to fix it entirely and get me back on my way. They fixed it in record time--they were like a NASCAR pit crew! Honest! Amazing! And Quick! Been coming here since my Toyota Highlander hit 120k miles, now I'm at 200k, and it just keeps going. They do a great job keeping me up on the maintenance, warning me about what's coming and when. They even warned me about my battery, I said it's probably low because I just jumped my truck, not even a month later, it didn't start, I jumped it, called them and had a new battery within 30 mins. They also replaced all my fuel injectors on my Ford F-250 Diesel when my brother put regular gas in it. Needless to say he doesn't get to borrow the truck anymore. read more

Our family has been using Poway Auto Repair now for about 10 years I think. The team there has done work on my sons, VW Passat, Toyota 4Runner, Acura TSX and Acura MDX. I purchased a used 2017 GMC Denali just a few weeks back. Car fax was clean and all looked good. I heard a faint brake pad sound from the back and called Poway Auto. Talked with Scotty and brought it in. Scotty was familiar with the motors and trans, same as the Corvette I guess. Well the back bake noise turned out to be discs that were really rusted (the car came from Michigan). They replaced the discs and pads on both the front and rear and the Denali drives and stops like she was supposed to. I am glad I got it in there before more potential damage or brake failure could have occurred. I like the communications from Scotty and Jose there. It is nice to trust the folks working on your car. Poway Auto Repair can do it all (at least my experience so far!), they do it faster, less expensive AND with abundantly more attention to customer service than any dealership I've ever been to. Jose, Albert, Scott and Chelsea are all great. I called Saturday and asked to bring my car in this morning at 8:00 when they opened and they told me to come in at 7:30! Unbelievable customer service. I took my college sons 2015 Jetta in to have it checked out because there various service codes that were popping up. One of which seemed to be affecting the horsepower of the car. Jose (the owner) said they'd run a diagnostic check and let me know. By the way, I had recently had the alternator repaired to address an electrical issue fixed. I left the car at their shop for two days so they could run the diagnostic check on the Jetta. I get a call from Jose to let me know they had reset the computer on the car and that all codes had been cleared. He also said they tested each of the parts impacted by the codes which showed the parts were fine. Bottom line is that when I picked the car up, Jose didn't charge me a dime because he said the car is running fine and technically they didn't fix anything' other than inspecting and resetting the system. Really? I'm sure they spent plenty of time on my sons car but felt there was no need to charge me. Incredible! Five stars are not enough... read more

After doing some research I took my 68 Ford Bronco into Poway Auto Repair. I asked for an oil change and a "once over" to see if they spot any problems. I had mentioned some sporadic leaks so I asked for them to look over the entire vehicle to see if they could find any potential problems. They called me and said they found 3 problems and gave me an estimate. When it was ready they said they needed extra time to find the right seals for my transmission. Back in the day a previous owner had upgraded the tranny so Jose and his guys had some work to find the right seal. They took the time and made the effort and found the correct part number. Other mechanics would have told me they fixed it and taken our money, or would have just said it was too much trouble. But here they took the time to make it right. They also discovered that one of the leaks was coming from a different source and since it involved less labor they knocked $400 off the estimate. Another example of honest people. I will bring my Bronco back and recommend Poway Auto Repair to everyone I know. read more

Wow!!! This place is amazing! Jose the owner knows his stuff. My friend/client referred me me to this awesome place and I'm so glad I went in. I bought a old car and wanted a full inspection to make sure everything was legit. Jose and his team of mechanics took their time and really looked over my whole car and let me know what the condition of everything was . I ended up getting my breaks done and now my car is in tip top shape. They are reasonably priced and weren't purposefully unprofessional, but I have higher standards and they failed to diagnose my hesitation issue. They also fed me a few standard, copy/paste phone responses of "I was just about to call you" after they failed to ever call me at all, and "I'll call you back in 20 minutes", which always ended up with me having to call them 2 hours later. That stuff pisses me off so bad it's unreal. I was never rude to them about it though. I worked in customer service for too long to know you can't attack the messenger. If you decide to drop your car off here I would only let them do specific work and expect to have to be the one to stay on top of them. I dropped my car off at night and no one ever called to let me know they received the keys, or to verify the work. They never called back when they said they would and the ONLY time they called was to let me know they replaced the motor mount, but couldn't figure out the hesitation issue. They said it was "probably" (not a very confident word choice) a bad ignition coil causing hesitations. Um, that was replaced and didn't do anything. Honestly, every time I called I felt like they were bs'ing me about their progress on my car. (Oh the mechanic is working on it right now...really? Has he been working on it for the last 4 days, too?) They had it for a week and kept giving me the same story about what they were doing. Priced well, capable off turning wrench, but I'm not impressed. So 2 stars because, "Meh. I've experienced better." I also usually pay in cash because it saves the business money, but since they irritated me I paid with card. At least I got points out of this. read more

However, we have had two instances where the issues were either so difficult to diagnose or so complex that we went to Poway Auto after finding them on Yelp. Their skills, customer care and integrity are unlike anything I've ever seen! Luckily Poway Auto Repair was open on this Saturday afternoon. They actually stayed open longer because they were so busy. Scotty was very friendly, said to bring the car down. Jose hooked the car up to a computer, & it's relayed that it's a transmission problem, which no one wants.. I was happy to leave the car with them till further diagnosis. Well.. Good news this car has 2 batteries, they needed to be replaced, which was causing the car to not work to its full potential. ( Seats wouldn't go back, mirrors, transmission, computers.) They could have chosen to be unethical, but they were HONEST.
