This place is the real deal. Delicious homemade baked breads, croissants, a few ready made breakfast sandwiches , etc. Highly recommend the Almond pastry and chocolate croissant. We went multiple times while in the area and the breads we had were all great and of high quality. More of a "stop in and head out" spot but they do have a small area you could eat quickly. Like any good bakeries they sell out on many items so get there on earlier side even on weekdays. read more

This storefront is relatively tiny, but its small walls hold tons of delicious creations. Came in for the sandwiches, Turkey Chimichurri, and the Veggie. My husband said, "I haven't had many sandwiches where my favourite part of it is the bread!" The veggie sandwich was so fun, something like I've never had before, the "chickpea salad" was tangy and delicious. I thought I wouldn't be full from the sandwich, but it was the perfect portion. The veggie sandwich had some kind of rosemary bread with chickpea salad, apples, carrot ginger slaw, tahini vinaigrette and arugula. Definitely a lighter sandwich which I liked. The apples brought a nice crunch and sweetness and the tahini tied it all together. The bread is definitely the star though! Really soft and pillowy with just the right amount of chew. We found this place at a farmers market. I got a blueberry scone and a morning bun (I think that's what they were called) they were so delicious I went back for more but the market just closed. So we looked online and saw they had a store. Was so happy they did and it was on the way home. We stopped and got 4 more morning buns and some cookies for our trip back to Arizona. What a yummy place! The sandwiches are awesome. Just thinking about the Ham & Gruyere and Turkey Chimichurri is making my mouth water! It was the perfect amount of smoked ham, cheese and mustard in the Ham & Gruyere and the house-made chimichurri was spot on for the Turkey Chimichurri. The pistachio honey semolina cake tasted sooo good! I loved the texture and it was not overly sweet. The chocolate croissant was very flaky but I did wish it had a tad bit more chocolate in it. We also got a loaf of the sesame sourdough which was moist and definitely not too dry. Can't wait to cut up slices of it and make more sandwiches! Actually the best French baguette I have ever had. Actually. Found it on a stroll to Encinitas and bought a side of butter with it. Was kinda mad I had to buy a side of butter but after I had my first bite, my annoyance disappeared instantly. I picked up several on my morning visit: butter croissants, morning buns, and almonds croissant all reasonably priced. All the pastries were terrific. The butter croissant was butter and flaky, just right for a warm cup of coffee. The almond croissant came with not only thinly sliced almonds a top, but a terrific almond paste inside. The morning bun offered a soft texture full of a a great cinnamon flavor. In addition to pastries, they bake baguettes, loaves, cookies, and scones! Those beautiful scones! The staff members were all very nice and welcoming. Here's a tip, "the early bird gets the worm." So, get there early if you want all the good stuff! read more

It's great to see all the support for businesses in downtown Encinitas. The foot and vehicle traffic was heavy along Hwy 101 during my visit to Prager Brothers. I was able to find curbside parking on one of the alphabet letter cross streets before walking over to the shop. Unfortunately, since I came so late in the day, much of their inventory had already been sold out. As mentioned by another reviewer, it would be helpful if their products had labels with prices to them since no menu board existed. The last of their remaining sourdough breads was the Spelt variety. It's an ancient hulled wheat that is supposedly more nutritious than standard whole wheat. While the bread was good, the loaf became dry and hard after only one day despite the fact that I kept it tightly wrapped in the brown paper bag. The other items I bought were a Fig Walnut Bar and a slice of Coffee Cake. The first was made up of fig and walnut caramel with a buttery shortbread crust. This was indeed a sweet treat. The second contained cinnamon swirl cake with a streusel topping. Based on the limited choices I tried, for now I gave this place a 3.5 star rating. The list of sandwiches looks intriguing so that will be the target at a future stop. read more

I was excited to hear about this new location closer to where I live. This location is on Highway 101, where many other stores reside. We ordered an Italian Sandwich, Turkey Chimichurri sandwich, and an almond croissant. The sandwiches were cheaper than I thought they'd be and they were great for the price. The bread is delicious as expected. I love the flavors of both but preferred the Italian sandwich just out of preference for the meat. The almond croissant was flakey, delicious, and not too sweet. Not from Encinitas so I did a look up for the best sandwiches and it said that this place was the place to go did not go here for sandwiches. They have four premade sandwiches. You cannot special order anything and you have to like one of the four premade sandwiches this is not a sandwich shop. He's only park in the back and walk around the entire building when I'm not supposed to be out in the sun only to find out that they don't have sandwiches except they're for sandwiches to their taste and you cannot get them specially made example. Your turkey has chimichurri sauce on it if you want don't want that on there you can't make that change there ham sandwich it only has mustard on it you don't want mustard on it tough. Everyone in SD knows Prager Bro's make great bread so this review is for some of their fall specials only! I was eyeing some of their fall menus which included loaf cakes (pumpkin, applesauce, gingerbread), corn muffins and scones. Visited in the morning and I was lucky to get the last corn muffin they had but they were out of applesauce bread. The corn muffin tasted great with solid corn flavor. It reminded me of a corn biscuit except softer and fluffier. The only downside was that it was pretty smaller than I thought it would be. I imagined it to be a 'regular' muffin or cupcake size but it was the size of the mini cupcakes you see at grocery stores for a pack of 12. But maybe the smaller muffin size is better for my waist line lol. They had a fresh loaf of pumpkin bread come right out when I asked for it so it was so moist and fresh when I ate it. It had colorful vibrant flavors bursting with everything you can imagine for fall. With pumpkin seeds topped over it, I was swoon. The gingerbread was a bit denser, smaller and drier than the pumpkin bread. It tasted exactly like a molasses bread though, which I didn't mind because I love molasses, but if you're expecting something like ginger-cinnamon-nutmegy notes you won't find that with this one.
