Well, Yelpers, it has been a manic year, to say the least, and due to this, I have been unusually quiet on Yelp! However, whilst stuffed to the gills and still drooling from the flavor, I have found reason to get back on board... Preacher's Smokehouse. Hubby has been following Preacher's for years on social media (altho never mentioned it to me) and today he finally decided was the day to try it and try we did. I had the pork sandwich with a side of tater salad, he had the 3 meats PLUS ribs and 2 sides because he couldn't make up his mind. His choice was the ribs, burnt ends, smoked sausage, and pulled pork, also with tater salad (is there such a thing as BBQ without??) and Baked Beans. As a 'side' note, the sides are huge and easily shareable for two. I have to say that the pork with the seasonings alone before the sauce is added was simply lip-smackin scrumptious. Hubs still can't decide which he liked best on his plate, I can tell you he finished the lot! It truly was good, stuffed as we are, we still added the banana puddin' - to go! We stopped in right at open on a Saturday morning at 11am. Everyone was so friendly from the second we walked up until the moment we left. We were checked on twice while we ate to see if we needed anything. You walk up to order at the window and then go inside to the dining area to eat. We ordered the chili cheese fries to share. These were delicious! The fries were well seasoned and crispy and the chili on top was flavorful abs hot. Would definitely order again. I got the one meat combo with pulled pork. For my sides I got the Mac and cheese and the potato salad. The pork was tender and tasty. The 3 sauces on the table were hot, original and sweet. My favorites were the hot and original. I wouldn't have minded a little more heat in the hot. The Mac and cheese was hot and fresh. Added a little salt and pepper and it was great! The potato salad was great too. My friend got 2 meats with the pulled pork and smoked sausage. I tried the sausage and loved it!! Her sides were Mac and cheese and baked beans. She said the baked beans were amazing. Smoky and sweet. Perfect balance. She also ended with the banana pudding and said it was satisfying as well. We went based on the great reviews and found the food to be just OK. The lady who waited on us was very nice and the prices were good. I just expected above average food which did not turn out to be true. Not going include review of the french fries because it isn't fair to review fries that were eaten 10 minutes later and as take out. Amazing, off the beaten path, beyond friendly staff and owner. Loved the homey feel of mom and pop roadside food stops that I remembered as a kid. We tried a bit of everything, the ribs and burnt ends where a table favorite. Chili and baked beans were delicious. We really wanted to love this place...we just didn't. Ordered brisket with mac and cheese and ordered burnt ends with potato salad. We didn't really like any of it. The brisket is shredded beef and we did not like the seasoning. Typically brisket has a heavy bark when smoked and this was more like pot roast. The mac and cheese was like a bad box mix. Burnt ends were ok, nothing to write home about. Again, really wanted to love it. We are locals and live here and love to support local businesses. Wanted to try a new local business out and this is what I picked. My sister and I both loved the pulled pork and Mac & cheese. Baked beans were good as well. I didn't really care for the chicken, as I thought it would of came with some kind of seasoning on it besides the bbq sauce on the side. My sister liked the fries as well. I didn't enjoy the burnt ends but everyone's taste buds are different. I didn't like the taste of them, with or without the bbq sauce. The bbq was excellent (we got pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs and brisket). The ribs were by far the best, our whole party agreed. The Mac n cheese and cole slaw were both outstanding, too. The only side we weren't a fan of was the green beans, which lacked flavor. But otherwise, was a great meal and the boys enjoyed playing with their trucks in the dirt under the dining tent. Their sauces are great they have traditional BBQ, hot BBQ, and cola BBQ. The only bad part was the coleslaw which is almost a purée which wasn't great. I am picky about bbq. We were in town for my teen son's birthday, and he asked for "good barbecue" for dinner. I looked around the area, and many places had mixed reviews. We asked a local, and they said Preacher's was the best and worth the drive. Let me tell you...it's some of the best I have EVER had. Rib meat falling off the bone, perfect pulled brisket, and amazing burnt ends. Nothing we ordered was any less than amazing. Our local source was right. Take the drive. It's about 20min outside Pigeon Forge and worth every minute. Far better than anything you can get on the main drag. My son and his friends were happy. And so was this guy. We are visiting out of town and we're recommended by the Ziplining guide that we HAVE to come here. It's not in the touristy area, which is great! It's a small, hole in the wall which is also a plus. Spots like this usually have the best food ;) Staff was incredible and so friendly. Thankfully we got there 10 minutes before closing and they still had some meats left. We were hungry & prepared to EAT. We ordered full slab of ribs, burnt ends, mac and cheese, potato salad, slaw AND chili cheese fries. Ribs were delish, fall off the bone. We loved the sauces too. Burnt ends were amazing. I think the ribs were more pricey than normal but they were pretty big. You get what you pay for. Sides we're pretty basic and still yummy - but we're really focusing on the meats. Chili cheese fries were good and I love that you can taste the smoked flavor in the chili.
