Took a 1999 Lexus RX 300 to these guys 3 years ago to get their take on what the dealer described as a "dead transmission." PI flushed everything and performed a few other services and the vehicle ran like a gem for 3 more years before finally succumbing to the deficiencies of the well known Lexus transmission problem. Took my truck in for brakes. I knew in advance it needed them. Asked them to look over front/back. Was told front needed replacement, could get another 15 to 20K on backs. Found that refreshing. I did pay full price as to what other garages would charge for a brake job - so cost savings isn't necessarily what you look for here - but found you get what you pay for here. Drove it off the lot, and was immediately concerned with softness of the pedal. Drove it back in. The owner threw it up on the rack, bled the brakes again, and found air in the lines. He was very apologetic - but mistakes happen. All was well. They stayed late to do this for me, didn't tell me to come back the next day, or we have to keep it overnight, etc. Refreshingly good service. I'll be back. read more

More expensive than the dealership for routine jobs like oil changes (about 44% higher for a synthetic oil change), but you get the amazing workmanship quality and the benefit of having a qualified mechanic specifically look over your car and spot any potential problems before they get big. (Larger shops usually have inexperienced/unskilled new hires that only know the bare minimums perform the oil changes while a shop foreman looks over a bunch of them, hence why they can charge less for an oil change.) As they are a small shop with limited staff, if you are waiting, you may have to wait longer than what you've come to expect from a qwik-e-lube chain or dealership to get your car serviced. So realistically the question is: do you mind paying more and waiting longer than at the dealership so your car gets looked at by top of the line qualified, senior mechanics that know what they are doing? read more

The Lady's VW had a check engine light, and took it to the dealer to get it checked out. When they quoted me a price to fix the thermostat and coolant temperature sensor, I thanked them for their time and left as quickly as possible. I called around to a few shops and Steve at Precision Import gave me what I felt was a reasonable quote. I dropped the car off just after the shop opened, and was back in the driver's seat by 4:30pm. Steve was friendly and took the time to explain what they did to the car. I mentioned I used to drive a Subaru, and we talked about their head gasket issues for a while. Friendly, local service for about 40% less than the dealer. They also have a Facebook page, and some great coupons on their website. These guys are what service is all about. The guys at this shop are honest and never try to up sell you anything. I brought in my car and they spent the whole day looking at it and at the end we concluded that the dealer would have to reprogram a module. Instead of still charging me for the service and labor he waived all fees and said since we didn't resolve it I shouldn't charge ya. I was very pleased with quality of service that I received for my BMW. I knew better than to take my car to the dealership. Then when I was told what the repair would cost at Precision Import, I had no reason to mention that I first went to AutoScandia (closer to where I live), and they quoted me a much higher price, over $3,100 more to do the same exact repair! Plus, they charged me $100 to test the system! However, I knew what the going rate for this repair would be after reading the Bimmer Forum online, and that I wasn't going to pay more than I should. Nonetheless, I appreciated the honesty at Precision Import Service, and this is a good example of how it always pays to be an educated consumer, and get a second opinion, too! Also, when I was paying the bill, and after I asked for a discount, I was also given a choice--a senior discount or Yelp discount. Thank you Precision Import Service! The METRO is located walking distance from Precision Import Service, too, which makes leaving one's car there for the day very convenient. Although, PIS does have a shuttle service to the METRO. The manager was cordial and the office area was very organized and neat. They were efficient, and I was able to make an appointment within a couple days. I have a fleet of 17 cars and trucks. I use two shops in the area to have the repairs done and I can honestly say Steve and Don have never let me down. I am always in a rush as I need these vehicles on the road. Not once have I had to take one back for the same issue. and on several occasions I have been told it was just a dirty battery cable or the brakes do squeak but they just needed to be adjusted. Had serious transmission issues pop up on my 2011 Lexus (140K miles) and, having used Precision previously, got in touch with Steve (owner) for diagnosis and repair. Steve and his team recommended a lower cost option (drain/flush/fill fluid) rather than replacing the trans. They also looked for replacement transmission options for me in case I wanted to go that route. I also asked him to look at the front suspension since I've been hearing a little noise and though he easily could have found something to repair, he told me there is nothing excessively worn or in need of replacement. Got the car back in a couple days for the estimated price and it's running great. I go to Precision because I trust that Steve will give it to me straight and not sell me unnecessary repairs and this was no exception. I have nothing but good things to say about precision. Took my car here based on the reviews and I'm so glad I did. I am a 24 year old female and often struggle with finding a shop who doesn't take advantage of the fact that I am clueless when it comes to the runnings of a vehicle. These gentleman gave me a fair price (literally 100's less than the other 3 shops I visited) and were happy to break the price down for my husband and I (part, labor, etc.) When they noticed other issues, they were understanding when I told them I couldn't afford to everything at once (I'm expecting!) and offered to break down everything by urgency and price so that I can have my car ready and safe for my baby when it arrives. I took my wife's Beetle in this morning for a turn signal issue. I knew what was wrong and knew the replacement switch online was $52. This switch is not the flasher of yesteryear but a combo emergency/turn signal block that requires Torx screw drivers and such for removal. In about an hour they diagnosed the issue as a bad switch. So about 2 pm they called and said it was fixed. They charged me $57 for the switch and $22 for labor. Total was a little over $80 with taxes. You can't get your windows cleaned for that with the dealers in Virginia and Michigan. read more

I had a decent idea what my problem was, and these gents confirmed my suspicions. What was really nice was the fact that they gave me ideas on how to avoid bringing it in at all. How is that for helpful? I had already tried these, so a part replacement was necessary. They made the repair, and I paid about what I expected. Parts were at a fair price, and they also offered to take the car in to an inspection station if I had any problems getting it through emissions. I absolutely love this place. The first time I started going to them (about 10 years ago), I was sitting next to another waiting customer who told me he had been bringing his cars there for a long time - from Silver Spring!? (to merrifield!) I knew then, that Precision was a good mechanic. I have never had a problem with them, and that is even since they changed hands. I can take my car once and never have to worry about it after that. They fix it right the first time with factory parts only. Honesty is what gets these guys so many 5-star ratings. I love that they don't try to upsell you, and they tell me in advance of when I'll have to invest in my car - like, you're going to need brakes in about 6 mos. or so. As others have mentioned, I have found the guys at Precision to be very knowledgeable and honest. I drove my car back and forth across the country for work that had me in Cali for a few months. When I got back to VA, I was going to go to my Lexus service center, for an oil change and to make sure that there wasn't anything else that needed work, since I hadn't taken her in for servicing in a while. I expected that they would "scare" me into having a bunch of unnecessary work done and didn't feel like dealing with them after such a long trip. Based on the reviews, I decided to give Precision a try. I held my breath, but they told me that all I needed was an oil change and that everything else (including the tires) looked good. I couldn't believe it. Then, a few months later, there was this weird sound coming from my center console. It started when I got a new radio a few years ago, and has come and gone, but this time it was louder and constant. It wasn't the radio, and I started to worry that it was a wiring problem (potentially a fire hazard). I took my car to Precision. Within seconds, my guy figured out that it was a blocked air vent, which he was able to fix immediately. Most shops would require me to leave my car and take hours to get back to me, likely saying it was something more serious that required more time/money. Not Precision. 30 seconds and $0 later, I was on my way. I will never go anywhere else! read more

I was recently vacationing in the DC area during one of the hottest weeks when our AC decided to flake out about 4 hours into the trip. I found these guys via the web and brought my car in. They fully tested the AC system and after 2 days of running the car and driving it, they couldn't replicate the problem. They thought I might have a bad AC compressor clutch but couldn't be 100% sure. They gave me the option of installing a new AC compressor but advised against it. I took their advice. At the end of this, they only charged me for the gas they had to put into my car to run it while testing. I'm sure I would not have gotten the same treatment with another mechanic or dealer. I only wish these guys were in RI. I'd become a lifelong customer. read more

Brought my car here to get new suspension bushings and exhaust hangers installed, and to get the brakes flushed. After dropping it off, I got a call a few hours later with prices for all the work. The quote on the suspension was a bit more than I was willing to pay, so I declined that repair, but they were extremely courteous, got the other work done extremely rapidly, and did an excellent job. They have great customer service, are very communicative, and keep one of the cleanest shops I've ever seen. In addition, they're next door to an Alfa Romeo mechanic (to whom they rent a bay), so if you're fond of old roadsters, there are a lot of amazing cars to check out in their parking lot. I actually first came here just to look at the Alfas, and it wasn't until over a year later that I actually came here for repairs. I wish I had done so sooner, as they are head and shoulders above the other local shops. I've trusted these guys with our vehicles for 23 years, both under the ownership of Pete Van der Vate and the present ownership of Steve Wynkoop and Don Brown. They've done everything from regular maintenance (oil, coolant, transmission and brake fluid changes) to electrical diagnostics to really tough jobs like clutch and water pump replacement on a vehicle that can be a real bear to work on. I only give this place 4 stars because I didn't end up fixing my car here, I would give 5 stars otherwise. I am reviewing for their superb customer service. I went to this establishment after seeing the good reviews in yelp also because it's just about 5 minutes walk from where I live. I took my car in the morning for a diagnose and turned out I need major work on my front and rear brakes. I did more research and I was able to find a cheaper quote (At a place where my family have been going to for years, although I have to drive all the way to Maryland it's worth the price cut). So I called Steve back and told him I was taking my car somewhere else but I offered to pay for the labor cost for the diagnosis. I came back to his shop to get my car and he told me there was no need to pay for the diagnosis labor, on top of that he gave me a detailed list of the issues with my car including cost for each parts and labor, also helpful advise. No bitterness because I didn't end up using their service whatsoever. If you are looking for a guaranteed good service in the area, I would recommend this place. read more

This shop is the most honest and helpful shop I have ever dealt with. I have been going to them, for my most troublesome repair issues on four different vehicles, for over a decade and they continue to give the very best service at the most reasonable and fair prices. When my wife's car would not start, they were willing to talk with me on the phone about what was (and, more importantly, wasn't) happening to help me diagnose the issue. They gave me solid, reasonable, and truthful advice on how I could fix it myself if I was so inclined. The Volvo Dealership quoted me a price over $1000 for the diagnostics and repair (not including any parts) and not including the basic oil change the car needed as well. Don at P.I.S. not only gave me some excellent web based resources for if I wanted to attempt the repair myself, but their quoted price for the same repair, INCLUDING, the parts and the oil change service was over $300 LESS than the Dealerships quote for just the repair. I went to these guys because of the good reviews, and I'd like to confirm those reviews. They are just some of the nicest and most honest guys you'd ever want to meet. I took in both of my cars within the past few weeks, one of which needed so much work, they asked me to take some time to think about if I wanted to do the repairs or take some other action (it was a cheap car, and the value of the repairs probably exceeded the value of the car). In the end, I decided to take the car home and sell it as-is, and make no repairs. They gave me a detailed print-out of everything which was wrong and a bill for $0. I told them I was happy to pay for their time during diagnosis and they said they did free evaluations and wouldn't charge me. Because of that, they've won me over as a customer for life. Plus, they're very friendly. If you need further proof of how nice these guys are, 20 years ago a stray kitten walked in to their shop...and they're still taking care of it. Also, don't let the exterior fool you. They're located behind the Maaco, and the shop front has no windows and does not look like a flashy dealership. There's a few dying cars in the lot which don't give the best first impression, but they belong to the Maaco folks, not these guys. Rest assured, go inside and this place is top notch. read more

This is the best mechanic I've been to. We have brought all of our cars here for years. They are extremely trustworthy and fair. Today our 2009 CRV wouldn't start and we brought it in and they checked the electrical and ignition system. Nothing was wrong with the car and that's what they told us. They said it might be the key. I brought my Infiniti G37x in and they diagnosed it correctly. It turns out it was an electronic malfunction that Infiniti needs to correct that prevented the car from starting every now and then. I was worried it was the starter that needed to be replaced. But they saved me $750 from installing a new starter by pointing out something even the Infiniti techs didn't catch.
