For fairly no-frills Indian, the Preet Palace consistently delivers. Try their lunch buffet--great deal though it isn't too extensive. Their dinners are great. We usually do the chicken korma or rogan josh, and they easily customize to spice level. Their rice is incredibly tender and fragrant--the best rice I've had at any Indian place. They often put a cinnamon stick in for extra flavor. Service is iffy sometimes, and can be and is quite slow at times, and the place is always empty. read more

Skip this place $50 barely fed my 6yr old, 8yr old, husband and myself! Sadly the food was underwhelming as well. The nan was bland (supposed to be garlic) and I ordered two but received one large piece. The butter chicken was almost sour in taste which was a surprise to me since I've eaten my share of Indian food. Went for Sunday Brunch (until 3pm on weekends!). The service in this place was pretty awful (we had to ask for large plates; someone else asked for spoons; there weren't enough bowls; no condiment cups for the chutneys; my used plates stacked up; one of the waitresses was kind of spazzy; one of the waiters was kind of spacey; some other tables were left dirty for longer than I would prefer)... BUT The food was pretty good. It might be because I've been to Minerva too many times (and I think a lot of their food is too spicy; naan's too chewy; have to bet on what the ONE dessert option will be) but I REALLY liked more than a few of Preet Palace's offerings: 1) PALAK PANEER. My favorite. And the paneer at this place is especially cheesy. Mmm. 2) THREE desserts. Gulab jamun (strong cardamom flavor... my fave!), kheer (with 2 types of raisins, not too sweet, with cashews), and what I call fried funnel sugar (the crispy, candy-like, funnel cake-resembling sweet). 3) Lamb!!! 4) I usually think tandoori chicken is eh, but here--very nicely spiced and insanely tender and juicy. 5) Neverending naan! They bring it hot, to your table. Love it. Butter chicken's really good (although it's still the best at Minerva, in my opinion), they offer a fish curry (but it's too fried and smelly for my tastes), and if you want a lot of fruit for dessert, they don't have it (but I mean, 3 INDIAN desserts. I would sacrifice orange wedges for gulab jamun, come on.) Oh, also, my sister's vegetarian and she was pretty much able to eat everything save a couple dishes. read more

*This rating is based on delivery experience as a whole only. I have never eaten at the restaurant and this is not my go-to for sit down (another Indian restaurant won my heart long ago for that experience). But food itself is solid 3 stars for the area* I order delivery from here once a month on average. I have to say they get it right more than they get it wrong. It's not perfect, it's not a D.C. premiere spot ya know- so I'm rating it all things considered. When I order it's for the whole FAM, consistently 4-7 dishes. What I can say is the portions are generous, the food is hot when delivered, they've not once mixed an order up, and delivery personnel are always very friendly. Delivery will take about an hour as stated so no surprise there. There have been a handful of times when I thought "eh the quality of this dish isn't as good usual" or "eh the meat in this dish isn't as good as usual". But "as usual" is the key. Not amused upon entering when right before they set us they doused our table in Windex! Now this is my first time here, and first impressions are really lasting. The waiter in the baseball cap that is mentioned in yelp reviews looked pissed off when we told him we needed to sit at the next table because of the smell.. Strike one! The food choices at buffet are mediocre, the bins that the food were in were fairly empty. The flavors we're okay, not the best I've had. After waiting over 25 minutes I went to waiter and asked him if my girlfriend and I could switch over to the buffet since the butter chicken was taking so long. He rudely said "No". A little background: I met my husband while I lived (and am from) Culpeper, Va. He is from the Fairfax area and has traveled all over the US on his own and the world with his family. He insisted Indian was delicious and that I'd love it. I had never experienced anything this ethnic before and was SO SO SO surprised and LOVED it! My first dish was flavorful and very comforting, and now that I have been able to sample other Indian establishments (along with other middle eastern and east Asian places), I can say this is my favorite in the area. Every time we eat from Preet Palace (frequently.. probably 2-3 times per month), it's great. We sometimes get delivery and sometimes eat in or take out. When you eat in, though, portions are a little small for the price. When you take out or get delivery, portions are much larger and make sense for the prices you're paying. The last person that delivered was SO nice and talked to me at my door for about 5 mins about the incoming snow, which I was more than happy to do. Food quality is great. Consistent (which is important). Service is so-so when you dine in. If you're in more of a hurry, I'd suggest Rasoi of India across the street in the shopping center where Grand Mart and Advanced Auto is, but this Preet Palace has the quality.. their Naan has always been hot and fluffy and they offer a variety of different naan and stuffed breads (Rasoi has what seems like greasy and very quickly cooked naan which results in less flavor and poor mouth feel/taste). In a quest to try different foods, I order 2 different Naan or breads every order I make and have not been disappointed once. I personally suggest (especially if you're an Indian food rookie, like I was the first time) the Rogan Josh. The meat is super fresh and tender tasting and the sauce you can order as mild, medium, or HOT! I always get medium. Hubby always gets HOT! no matter what he orders but usually gets the Lamb Vindaloo, which even I love as HOT! haha. I love this place.. You'll be put off by the dated decor in the joint and the lack of patrons, but we have always had amazing food no matter when we go (mid week, first of the week, or weekends)... but again, I suggest delivery (for portion to cost ratio reasons.. you can always have leftovers!). read more

Great place if you are White or Caucasian looking, not so much if you are brown or black or anything else. The owner greets whites with smiles and spends lots of time talking to them at their tables while the non-whites need their water refilled or are needing other service at their tables. I was absolutely disgusted by the racist behavior. They really should have a 'whites' and a 'colored' section that way you can know up front that if you ain't white, you're a second class customer here. Again, great place if you are white, the manager will literally lick your feet. We ordered delivery which they said would take approximately 45 minutes. One & a half hours later, we finally got our delivery. The size of the portions were about 1/4 of what you get in the restaurant. The food was EXTREMELY salty and to really top it off, I found a small metal shaving in one of the dishes. Not their best show. And when I called the restuarant to complain, I was asked, "So what do you want?" I hadn't called to ask for anything, I just thought they should know. A friend of mine and I went here about 5pm and according to the sign, they were open. In fact, I know they were open because the door was open and we could step inside. Spent about 5 minutes standing there, waiting and calling for someone to come out and seat us. Well we weren't sure if we seated ourselves or if they did it, so we waited. And waited. Finally a waiter, who didn't seem entirely happy to be there or terribly excited to see us, came out and stared at us. So I stared back. At this point, I was ready to go to McDonald's but being that I was there, and hungry, and you know staring makes you hungrier for some reason, I asked him if we could sit. He stared and said sure. Okaaay. Aside from that terribly first impression of service, everything else went smoothly. The food was good, nothing to get super excited about but the service was lousy. Ordered delivery last night food was piping hot and very good, it did take all of 45 minutes for it to arrive, but was well worth it. I ordered online and after about 10 minutes of placing my order they called to confirm that everything was correct. Food is pretty good but I wouldn't dine-in. The restaurant is in the back corner so it's difficult to find if you're just doing a drive by. I stopped in one night after work to grab some quick takeout but it wasn't quick at all. It took a very long time to get an order of naan, eggplant and butter chicken. Food was pretty good when I got home to eat it but you should definitely plan on doing some shopping at the Trader Joe's next door to kill some time (felt like a 20 min wait time). I have to say I wasn't very impressed by the decor of the restaurant. On a Friday night, there were maybe 2 couples/families eating there so it was very quiet and not much of an atmosphere. I wouldn't take a date here, not b/c of the food but b/c of the atmosphere (or lack there of). If I come back it'll only be for takeout (with a call-ahead). read more

Mostly empty both times I have gone and the service is truly awful. I figured the first time was an exception and tried again today and NOPE, same experience. Prices are SUPER high for the entrees as well. The rice pudding is watery, the soup was so full of pepper it was barely edible.
