Our work family went to Prego for dinner yesterday and we had a great time. Food and drinks were delicious. Two of us are vegetarian and the chef created a tasty dish from the ingredients we choose, now that's what I call culinary art. Ugo the chef was out in the dining area mingling and interacting with us and his other guests in the later part of the evening. He made the atmosphere very funny ,friendly and welcoming. He is Italian and a gem of person. Nancy was our server and she did a fantastic job attending to a group of 7. Very knowledgeable about the dishes and good listener. She gathered what her guest wanted and made accurate recommendations. I am very impressed with Nancy, she is awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant for date nights to celebrating parties, everything in between. read more

Oh My Gosh! We decided to try Prego to celebrate my birthday. Ugo the executive chef greeted us at the door, we made a reservation on OpenTable. We were sat at a beautiful table, we ordered a few items to start. The Sun Dried Tomato Hummus & Caesar Salad. The hummus was so delicious with house made pita bread. The Caesar salad was probably the best I've had in a long time. Dressing wasn't too fishy and had a great lemon taste. Victor the chef came out at took our order, he suggested gnocchi with salmon. My boyfriend wasn't sure if he would like it so, Victor went out of his way and made him two types of Gnocchi. Salmon & one with Sausage. He made him a dual plated entree. I ordered the Australian Lamb Chops with mashed potatoes & asparagus. This was the best lamb I've had in past 5 years. It was so juicy and tender. The mashed potatoes were light and creamy. The asparagus was sautéed perfectly with a little crunch still. The dessert they brought out for my birthday was delicious & the presentation was beautiful. The lemon tart was perfect combination of tarts and crust being so buttery. The service we received was excellent. The servers we so attentive and so kind. We haven't had such great customer service experience in years. Prego surpassed any expectations or Yelp review we ever had read. We definitely will tell all of our friends, neighbor, and anyone looking for a delicious dinner . Thank you for making my birthday so special. We were excited to have Prego come to the District and had eaten there a couple times and enjoyed the food before we made a decision to host our company holiday gathering at the facility. We made arrangements to use a private room in the back of the facility and chose Prego both for the quality of food and the sizing of the room we were going to be in with the privacy. In the prior five years we had booked private rooms at Zov's or Il Fornaio with great success and excellent experiences. To our significant disappointment, when we showed up for the night of our event, we found they cut our room in half and put up a thin curtain to separate the rooms to put two parties in one private room. Worse, the group on the other side was particularly in the holiday spirit (loud), which I don't begrudge them for that, but it made our experience miserable. I typically stand up to share few words about the year, to thank the significant others of our team and talk about accomplishments but this was abbreviated by the sheer noise level of the event. I was yelling to be heard. No one was winning in that scenario. I would give this a one star, but for the fact that the food is good. But when it comes to event management and honest dealings, we felt betrayed. Worse, there was very little follow up from the facility short of a brief email. We will never do a company event again at Prego, and I urge anyone planning for an event and looking to book the private room to put in the agreement that you have exclusive access to that room. Sadly, I also feel compelled to boycott the establishment as a result of their treatment on this matter, so we won't be eating there again. read more

I met my wife for a quick lunch at Prego. We walked straight back to the bar and were immediately welcomed by Miguel. He made us feel welcome, and suggested Meomi Pinot Noir to start. My wife ordered crab cakes and I had meatballs as an appetizer. The crab cakes were delicious, no need for the tartar sauce. The meatalls were served with a great Marinara sauce, and were of such a large portion, that I could not order anything else. Except for a second glass of Meomi. So it was my first time coming into this place....I got in about 4:15ish, last Friday after work. When I got there, I decided to sit in a booth in the bar area as I waited for my better half. I was greeted by the bartender and she gave me a happy hour menu to look at. I decided on getting a 7&7 cocktail (Canadian Club 7 & 7-Up) and a Cabernet for my lady. Then I ordered a couple of appetizers to munch on for us both.... I got the- 1) Meatballs 2) Fried Calamari 3) Lasagna.... Now for the food critiquing.... The meatballs were nice and juicy! It had lots of flavor.... You could taste all the balanced spices in the meat! The lasagna was great! It was cheesy and flavorful; and had a little spice to it too (which I liked!) The pasta was soft and chewy! As for the Calamari, it was still a little more rubbery texture then we wanted! We asked the bartender if we could get it more fried (even the fried green beans that was on the plate); and she granted our request with a new fried Calamari appetizer which was sooooo much better!! read more

This restaurant needs a major makeover. I do not refer to the building but the FOOD. I recently Dined with friends on a weekend Night and none of the food tasted good. I've traveled the world and consider myself a foodie. I won't go into details but if Prego is going to survive they must take a serious look at the menu ,go out to eat at one of the many Italian restaurants in Southern California to see how they can improve. I'd eaten at Prego Beverly Hills years ago and thought the food was an authentic dinner venue. Opted for indoor seating due to large bridal party on the patio. Service was nice. We order lump crab cake appetizer which was good and then a chopped salad and pasta with tiger shrimp. The salad was minced rather than chopped and definitely over-dressed. Maybe it made the presentation easier, but there was no taste. The pasta was fresh and tasty, the tiger shrimp were questionable. Sometimes shrimp is wonderful, other times it's bland. This was the latter, hidden in an unremarkable sauce. We left half the salad and half the pasta, maybe more. We don't complain; just don't go back. read more

I recently had my first experience with dining at Prego. I thoroughly enjoyed the asparagus fries as a starter and ribeye for my meal. The food was delicious. I was impressed by how friendly all of the staff were and how they were there to make my evening more enjoyable. It appears to be an enjoyable family atmosphere. Enjoyed a lovely lunch today with my daughter at Prego. We started off our meal with perfectly cooked calamari and Aperol Spritz. The pizza San Daniele with it's fresh burrata and prosciutto was delicious; the best pizza dough as well, cooked to perfection. Food was mediocre - frozen dishes rather fresh food, shrimp was watery, canoli was bland, tiramisu tasted watery like it was frozen and thawed, and the turkey tastes like it came from a hungryman dinner. The hospitality in this place is impeccable. The food is delicious. The ambiance is beautiful. Extremely kid friendly. Their staff is so helpful and considerate. I used to eat at Prego when it was located among the commercial buildings in Irvine and their food was always excellent. I just had dinner at Prego's new location (5 years) in Tustin District and it's just as good! My grilled fish with roasted potatoes,carrots and green bean was excellent. My hubby and son ordered Shrimp Pasta and said it was scrumptious. Tiramisu & ice cream was a generous portion and very delicious. We will be eating at Prego's again very soon. read more

First time eating at Prego....guarantee it was the last. What a disappointment..from the food to the ambiance..absolutely terrible. Appetizers: wedge salad was comparable to Dennys...in fact Dennys is better. 2nd app: Foccacia with whipped ricotta...CRAP! Main Courses..there were 4 of them....ALL 4 Flavorless...comparable to Swansons frozen meals. I came here with a big group last night thinking it was going to be a yummy meal but the second I got home nonstop vomiting I was throwing up from 10pm until 6am nonstop nothing I did would stop the vomit. When Prego first opened (years ago) in Irvine it was a dream. The food was made from the freshest ingredients and the service was impeccable and professional. Recently (tonight) the pride coming from the kitchen has disappeared. It's simply just another place with white table clothes and so-so food. Feel kinda sad writing this, but it's true. I had the peppercorn NY Strip on the specials menu. They flat out failed on cooking this piece of meet. It was not seasoned properly and it tasted like the thawing occurred in the oven. Bad, bad, bad......I know what you are thinking; "should've ordered the pasta". It was on the Specials Menu.......thought it would be good. We all agreed that the food was great and that we'd be back. The asparagus fries tasted great, but we all agreed that once you bit into them on the bottom, the fibers are too tough to chew through. Along with the location change, they also decided to put "Mediterranean" on the name, which makes zero sense because this is obviously an Italian restaurant. I was feeling nostalgic and wanted some of that fantastic lasagna that I used to order every time at the old place, so off we went. Middle of the week about 8pm and the place was dead empty. There might have been 2 other tables in there, maybe. This is usually not a good sign. We sat on the patio, which was pretty nice and very quiet since no one else was there. Started off by ordering 2 cocktails for my date and I, hers came out fine and tasted good, mine was not what I ordered. Of course the waitress set the (wrong) drink down and walked away while I was looking puzzled. She finally comes back and I tell her this is not what I ordered and she apologized and got me the correct drink. Not a big deal, mistakes happen and it was fixed quickly. Next we ordered crab cakes and carrot soup appetizers. Soup came out hot and fast and was pretty damn good. Crab Cakes never came. When the mains came out, I asked about the crab cakes and she said "oh, sorry, do you want me to put those in now?"....Well, no, because now I have giant lasagna sitting in front of me. Those crab cakes arent exactly cheap, so the restaurant lost money there and you have a customer who didn't get what they ordered. Not good. Perhaps the most disappointing part of the whole deal was the $19 lasagna that used to be sooo good at the old place. It tasted re-heated, which is fine, I understand how lasagna is made and almost every restaurant is making a big batch and then re-heating as they are ordered. Maybe this was an old batch? I'm just not sure. The real issue was it was so bland. I'm not even sure how you make lasagna that bland? It's meat, sauce, cheese and pasta. That's a winning combination right there. I thought it needed salt and pepper, so I added some, and it didn't have any effect. I ate the whole thing because I was hungry, but man, that was a sad departure from what I remember at the old place. It's almost baffling how little flavor it had. The waitress decided to give us a free desert because of the missed app. Hey, that's nice and I really appreciate that, so sure, why not. We didn't get to "pick" this desert, she just brought us some random one of whatever she was feeling that night I guess. I'm fine with that, it's free so, cool..... What came out was almost-still-frozen cream puffs with under ripe strawberries with chocolate sauce dumped all over everything. Man, don't bring me out junk like that, I don't care if it's "free". That was nasty. They were obviously store-bought frozen cream puffs that they couldn't even bother to thaw out properly. Then some chef back there cuts up strawberries that were hard as a rock and dumps hersey's syrup all over it. That's lazy cooking and not respecting your customers right there. Wasted money, wasted carbs and sad service. For a restaurant that I used to love, it's hard to see how I would ever come back. read more

Very solid four stars. The service was great and staff were all friendly. The pasta and lasagna were tasty. The ravioli didn't hit the mark for me though. The tables were spaced apart with a lot of social distancing and privacy. The bar tender was generous with the pours so your drinks are not diluted. My boyfriend and I stopped by after the gym one night and were not disappointed. We sat on the patio which was so pretty. They have small heaters over tables and a nice fire place with string lights - really relaxing. We ordered the fish tacos to start and they were amazing! For our entrees we go the lobster ravioli and the tortino which was just pasta rolled up with spinach and cream sauce which was so good!!! Their wine selection is good and they also have other drinks. I recommend going on Tuesday when they have tapa Tuesday and have other little items. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. I attended a company party at this restaurant and had my wallet and my guest's purse stolen. When we brought this to the attention of the staff we were told to contact my company and when we called the police to make a report we were kicked off the premises. This was at 2 am and we were 2 women alone kicked out to wait for the police while the manager and coordinator waited inside. The management was not cooperative and they admitted that they had cameras but refused to show the footage. Still waiting for this to be resolved. Update- it's been over a week and there has been zero communication about the video footage the restaurant claims to have and still no cooperation. The only reason the police were there when I was making my review was because I called them myself after which we were kicked off of their premises. Horrible business practices. read more

This Italian restaurant is inside The District shopping center and near the valet parking area. It is one of the more upscale restaurants in The District. I came for happy hour, which ends at 7pm. Wines are $5 and cocktails are $8. Select appetizers are also served during happy hour at a reduced cost. We had the hummus trio, which came with 3 types of hummus. The hummus was unique in that it didn't have as creamy as a texture as typical hummus, but all three were tasty. read more

The prices are a bit steep, but it's understandable, it is, after all, a fancy restaurant. The service is unmatched.
