Took the family to Preludes for New Years Day breakfast because my granddaughter wanted to try someplace different from our usual breakfast haunt, First Watch. Pleased to report that the food was delicious, ample and promptly served. However, the coffee was some sort of estoic grind that was overly chicoried. Prices were reasonable but not a bargain. The menu had a printed warning that all checks would be leaved a 6% charge for the kitchen staff. What the hell!! Give your kitchen staff a decent wage! Raise your prices or do what you need to do but to put that statement on the menu is off-putting and doesn't reflect a compassionate owner, just the reverse. It would be more appropriate to post that there is a 3% additional charge to pay with a credit card. read more

We had the dog & they were so happy to accommodate us on the back deck & I think every single staff member came out to pet our pup. He was in Heaven! Prelude now adds 22% service charge to all orders so you don't have to tip, and I think this reflects a bit in the service level. While I love the concept of paying service workers a living wage without forcing them to rely on tips, it seems to impact the hospitality a bit at Prelude. Our server did not check back in on us and when we asked for hot sauce she pointed us to where it was at the server station rather than getting it for us. The inside of the restaurant is cute. It's always busy on a weekend morning but I've never had to wait very long to be sat. My daughter went with the old standby, eggs, potatoes and toast, which for its simplicity still looked really tasty. The music playing just added to the experience, some seemingly smooth indie incantation that added to the pancake rabbit hole I was lost in. The drip coffee with free refills was served in the perfect little clay blue mug, and it delivered. The server was warm yet non intrusive, attentive but not overbearing, and pleasant. The details hit here. I'm going to stop before I annoy myself. You should stop too, and see what all the fuss is about. Worst service I have ever had. I walked in on a day that wasn't busy and the guy didn't look up from the computer. I had to figure out that I needed to scan the QR code for a non existent line. OMG, this place is amazing... I was visiting my baby girl in Fayetteville and she told me we had to get breakfast at Prelude. It is a little hole in the wall that you really need to be looking for to find but it was sooooo worth it. First off they make a great cup of coffee. The service was spot on (everyone was so helpful). I ordered the pig omelette (that is not what they call it but it was ham, sausage, bacon, - you get it, plenty of meat) and it was AWESOME - perhaps one of the best omelettes I have had - no really it was that good. Baby girl hat a flight of pancakes which all 3 were different - the carmel, butter and bacon gets 2 thumbs up - the banana chocolate chip was delicious - the lemon one was really good (a little overpowering but really good) - they keep the coffee coming. This was our second visit to Prelude, the first visit the food was amazing and the service was mediocre at best but we could overlook it because of the food. Unfortunately today both were mediocre. I believe the Owner was there eating w her family and she jumped up to try and help but she wasn't able to take over all tables. We got coffee and while it was poured immediately we didn't get our creamer for 15 min and never was asked if we wanted a refill.
