All estimates from wait times to cost, was fair and accurate. I especially appreciated my caring vet, Dr. Venhuizen for discussing a few different treatment options with me with the risks as well as the benefits. I have been here with my dogs 4 times and always had a good experience until this time, Oct 30,2024. My vet wasn't available so I called Premier stating that I needed to euthanize my dog. He is an American Eskimo and he's over 15 years old. Going blind and deaf with arthritis in his hips and back legs. We live on the second floor and he couldn't make it up or down the steps because his depth perception was gone so he would stand there and shake on each step. Then he would jump again cuz he couldn't see well and end up hitting his back legs on the cement steps. He was having a hard time getting up from laying. Anyway, we get there and I paid the 390 for euthanasia, they take him to the back and put us in the death room. 5 minutes later the nurse comes in asking why I want to put him down, so I explain everything to her and she leaves. Comes back 5 minutes later and says the doctor wants to know if you're sure you want to put him down. I was like wtf it's not an easy decision to make and no i don't want to but I believe he is in pain and suffering. I don't want him to suffer. She leaves and comes back 5 minutes later and says the doctor would like to do a full exam so another 215.00 so at this point I said fine tell her to do it. 20 minutes later she comes to the room and says I'm going to have you wait in the lobby until the doctor can come talk to you. Two hours later they put us in a room, the doctor Emily S comes in and asks why I want to euthanize him AGAIN I explained everything. She says let's try pain meds and anti-inflammatory meds. I tried telling her we have tried everything, he's on 4 different supplements along with a shot every month. So I tell her that's just a bandaid. He still can't see and will keep jumping down the steps and hurting his legs. She says that since she has no relationship with my dog she doesn't know him to know he's suffering so she cannot put him down and be able to sleep at night. At this point we had been there almost 4 hours of going back n forth so I lost it completely and I'm not proud of this but I was emotionally done and lost it and started screaming and swearing at her. I told her to go get my dog. Took him back home. Called my vet the next morning and he was put down peacefully with great care and compassion. Rest in peace Icy! F you Dr. Emily read more

I had to take my dog Bruno in for seizures. Like any dog mom I was scared to leave my dog the curbside service had my anxiety on high. From the moment I called to let them know we will be taking threw out my whole experience from calling to speaking to doctors and staff . Everyone was extract nice very helpful when it came to answering any questions and concerns with my dog when I was informed I had to leave him overnight for observation. The doctor took her time with explaining the situation extremely knowledgeable and made me feel so comforting that I was Leaving him in good hands. Our dog was having pain in the early morning and the Veterinarian was able to diagnose and explain clearly to us what was causing his pain. I appreciate her and the staff so much because my dog is feeling better! Cost was explained and we were able to easily reduce any services we didn't think were needed at the time, with the Vet's recommendation. My 16 yo cat broke her right rear leg. I assumed my likely option would be to amputate her leg. I took her to PVG for a surgical consult, and Dr. Jankovits thought she would be an excellent candidate for surgery. He was entirely forthcoming in telling me the most challenging part of the process would be keeping her confined for 8 weeks following surgery. Dr. Jankovits' surgery was truly remarkable. He was able to put my cat's leg back together in its original position. My personal vet marveled at Dr. Jankovits' skill. My cat was walking within the first week following surgery and her recovery was magical. I cannot recommend Dr. Jankovits and his surgical staff (Keri, in particular) more highly! read more

Okay, so. I just came home with my dog Bondi who was treated extensively for pyometra. Pyometra means infected uterus, so they needed to complete emergency surgery to remove her uterus and ovaries. That said, I had an overall positive experience with the vet and staff that attended to my dog. Due to being Memorial Day (and also in the middle of a pandemic), there was a long wait but were extremely responsive to my updates via the phone since we had to wait in the parking lot. The staff were extremely thorough in their reports and made sure I understood everything when I took her home. I would DEFINITELY recommend them if you have an emergency with your pet. My one piece of feedback would be around money. Many people have mentioned that in their reviews that this established is 'money hungry' (or something along those lines). My dog was very very sick, and I found out that they did not start her on fluids or really do anything treatmen- wise until after I gave them a hefty deposit. I understand both sides of this, but I was hoping they would have been a little bit more understanding of the urgency around starting her treatment. I did feel as though money was #1. Bondi really should have been. I also understand this wasn't the direct staff fault, probably corporate. Again, everyone I spoke to at the hospital was great and handled everything professionally. Thank you for saving mg baby girl. She feels a ton better :) EDIT: Its been three days since she had her surgery, and she's acting like a puppy. She is definitely relieved to be feeling better. My dog was brought in because he was suddenly shaking uncontrollably and making loud noises as if he was struggling to breathe. They brought him back immediately and proceeded to take X-rays assuming he may have ingested something that may have gotten stuck or irritated his esophagus. However, they failed to take X-rays of his esophagus. Instead, took X-rays of his stomach. They later discharged him as he calmed down and there was nothing apparently wrong with him. They sent him home with antacids which- at the time of panic and just hearing "he'll be fine", made sense. He calmed down from making the loud noises which sounded like dry heaving even though he would still have episodes every 10-15 minutes. Anyway, I still watched him closely as I had a feeling something was still not right. He would only drink water from my hand as drinking water from his bowl seemed to cause discomfort. Forget about eating. Later that night, around 10:00 PM, he threw up. Proceeded to throw up 7 times after that within an hour. My mind started racing- what if he was poisoned? I rushed him to MedVet on California Ave where they requested the X-rays from this place, which took them about 2.5-3 hours to send to the doctor who personally called and asked for them. The doctor at MedVet then took X-rays of his esophagus which showed inflammation and irritation from something he swallowed. She said he was in pain because of it. She prescribed him two additional medications, as well as an injection to help with the nausea. +$3,000 later, Premier did nothing but take my money. I would have paid half of that if the doctor that saw him at Premier knew what she was doing. Instead, I had to rush him to another veterinary ER. Also, "Bear is ready for discharge" as soon as I hand over my card to pay?!?! Get out of here with that. What if someone comes in without the money to pay and are desperate for help? Are you going to hold their pet hostage and/or turn them away?!?! That shows a lot. 0 stars if I could. Cold staff and incompetent doctors. Go elsewhere, for your pet's sake and your sanity. read more

I I took my cat for the emergency room. They didn't do nothing , and they charge me for regular check over $400. including pain medicine and that's it they said oh we don't have any Doctor Who is gonna do surgery on your cat. You need to take it to a different place I'm like really but the life of my cat is more important than the money. No one likes to take their pets to the vet (and I'm sure the pets don't like it either) but we needed to come here to have our dog evaluated by an internal medicine specialist. My only real issue with Premier was the wait-time for an appointment. I called in early July for an ultrasound appointment with consultation and they weren't able to get us in until August 4. Our dog was preliminary diagnosed with cushing's disease but our vet insisted we pay extra to have him evaluated by an internist. We spent another month of waiting while our dog feels kind of crappy and keeps peeing all over the house (cushing's makes dogs thirsty so they drink a ton and just start peeing everywhere). Upon arrival, my husband called and someone came out right away to take our dog inside. The exam started fairly quickly and the hour that was quoted was accurate. Everyone was very nice and enjoyed our dog - they talked about how nice he was and how much they liked petting him. It felt good to have people care for our dog in that way, especially since we've never been here and he's basically blind, so he was probably disoriented and confused. Dr. Simpson was very professional and we appreciated her advice about our dog. He's old so she was very upfront about the risks of potential surgery and fully rationalized her treatment plan for our dog. They could stand to get some medication samples (or sell in their own store) since we now have to pay $95/month for our dog's medication but he's the best so we'll buy it. Overall, I liked Premier. With the exception of their very limited scheduling, everything was great and we are happy with the service we received for our dog. read more

So my vet suggested this place as he liked the internal medicine doctor here. I was confused about this place and Medi Vet which is near by. So my dog needed an ultrasound and had fluid in her stomach. At first the technician asks if my doctor called before we came and I said no, well that was a problem. She said we'd have to wait 4-5 hours to be seen, then she couldn't guarantee we'd be seen, then I asked if we could come back if we had to wait that long should we bring the dog back? She replied well your dog was sick for a month so it's not as sick as some of the other dogs here so we can't guarantee that she will have an ultrasound today. I ask when can I make an appt then? 2 months? The tech was so unpleasant that I remembered this is the place that has the awful service three years ago. I proceeded to call My vet to let him know how they reacted about my taking my sick dog there. and he called MediVet and I found nice, compassionate care for my dog Stella. Check MediVet out first. Premier had a chance to redeem themselves. I cannot believe how unhelpful the person was. read more

Trust me, they do not care about your pet, you, or your wishes but they sure do care about racking up a bill. The whole set up is like a used car sales pitch. The staff and vets are Bullies who lie to you, mislead you all while mismanaging your pets care. And in the end killed him but made sure to violate his body before killing him. I was so nervous to come here after reading all of the horrible reviews- but I will give them 5 stars for the care they provided for my dog. I went for an ortho surgery appointment that was scheduled in advance so my experience is different than those who went for an emergency appointment. I was 15 minutes late to my appointment due to traffic and when I arrived I apologized and there was no mention of it, or bitterness towards me from the receptionist and I was walked straight to my dogs room. The receptions was actually quite nice and very calm, opposed to all other reviews. I met two and I have nothing negative to say about them. In the exam room we were greeted by a nurse who was able to recite all of my dogs history and the injury that lead us to come here without using any paperwork. The one thing I will say is she kind of scoffed and laughed when I needed clarification on a word she used to describe something that could have been described with todays language. They do take your animal away from you to the back for the exam, even though you are sitting in an exam room. I haven't had this experience and I prefer they stay in the exam room- but I let them take my dog. The nurse explained that they would only be doing a physical exam and come back before doing anything else. Then the surgeon came back with my dog to talk through everything and answer all my questions and he had a very calm and relaxing presence. Overall, I would say it was a good experience and due to the fact that they have several branches of doctors, I would return here if needed in the future. read more

Now over 3K after todays visit it's still the same diagnosis. Last visit they wanted me to take her to a cardiologist " just because". After I file a formal complaint with the state veterinary review board. If you have absolutely no choice because it is an emergency off hour situation, take them in, get them evaluated, once your primary vet is open GET ALL test results and your pet and go directly to them. So we all love our pets. We all know how expensive emergency vets are. My dog had a possible tear in his ACL. It wasn't an emergency it was something that became noticeable over time. We were going with a home rehab with some meds and constant consult with our own vet. She recommended taking him to an orthopedic vet if he didn't improve. Our vet recommended a couple Ortho vets in the Chicago area. I called Premier Vet because it was closest to our home. They couldn't give us an appointment for a month and a half. Which was fine since our own vet is so great and we were home rehabbing him. Our appointment with Premier was next Monday. He was doing so well I decided to cancel our appointment with Premier on the Thursday before. I spoke to two different people. Neither could even find our appointment. Wow. Really!? So I waited a month and a half for my injured dog to have an appointment with an orthopedic vet and you don't show us having any appointment. So if I had shown up...what? They would tell me "sorry. We can't help you." Even tho we had WAITED A MONTH AND A HALF? Never again. I will NEVER go to this vet practice. CLEARLY they do NOT care about your pet. Clearly. Unbelievable. read more

My dog had a swollen face and an increasingly bad respiratory issue that got so bad he could no longer walk up the stairs. After spending $1000 and visiting my primary vet twice, who couldn't figure out the cause, he recommended me to either Premier or Medvet. My initial experience with Premier was a call at 10pm on a Friday. The woman who answered my call explained what to look for in respiratory distress (blue gums, pacing, and that an animal in respiratory distress wouldn't be able to lay comfortably which mine was doing at the time), so I felt comfortable waiting to bring him in the next morning. The woman, Maggie (I think), who told me she wasn't a doctor but has been in the industry for years, explained more to me in a clearer way than my primary vet did. I brought him in the next am around 10. He was taken immediately with zero wait. As my dog was in back, the ER vet tech Colette, took me into a room and asked numerous questions about his history and condition. She asked all the right questions, ones that I wished my primary vet did. A short time later, Dr. Herppich came and walked me through the possible scenarios based on her initial examination. I knew from after visiting my vet twice that they were most likely going to need to do numerous tests to try and pinpoint what the issue was. She walked me through everything, answered my questions multiple times, and was super thorough. I agreed to her exploratory treatment plan. Shortly after, Colette came back and pulled up a detailed estimate for the services. It came to a range of $1400-$1850. They told me the tests would take over an hour, so they gave me the option to go home vs. waiting there. I opted to go home to wait for all the tests to be completed. A couple hours later I received an update, a detailed explanation from Dr. Herppich directly on the status and appropriate next steps. She told me she was still waiting for a couple test results to come in and would call me in 1-2 hours when they did. She called about 1.5 hours later and I went back to pick up my dog. Upon arrival as I waited for my dog to be released, I checked out. The final estimate came in less than the lower end of the initial estimate by about $60, which was great as I need to follow up with a cardiologist (so more $), which Dr. Herppich called around and found an appt for me 1.5 days later. After I was done checking out, Dr. Herppich came out and talked to me directly on the final analysis and ensured that I understood everything before we left the facility. My car was parked in a tight spot, so I asked if they could walk my dog out as I moved my car. Colette directed me to a side door, walked him out, walked with me and him to ensure he relieved himself before getting in the car. She then asked me if I had a blanket for the backseat of my car, which I said I forgot, and she quickly said no problem, I'll get one and promptly did so, and picked him up herself and laid him in the backseat (he's 60 lbs and sometimes tough for me to pick up). I am very surprised by the awful reviews of this place as I received nothing but impeccable treatment. In hindsight, I should've taken him here initially, as I basically wasted $1000 at my primary vet for nothing when I could've got way more information on his condition with just $300 more here. I would also ignore those reviews who complain about the pricing and how they explain the estimates to you. 1. it's an emergency vet in the city, of course it's going to be pricy 2. clearly the pets being brought here are in bad condition so it's understandable that these doctors aren't going to always know 100% what is wrong. It's not surprising that multiple tests/procedures have to be conducted. What is surprising that there are so many people who are appalled at the idea of paying for it. (like the one reviewer who said she wasn't paying after she got denied the financing, and then told Premier she wasn't paying for the exam fee when they asked. Shocker that this person got denied for financing). The place was super clean, and all staff I encountered were amazing. Dr. Herppich looked about 25 years younger than my primary vet and one would've thought she has 50 years more experienced based on her questions, thinking, and conversations I had with her. When reading the negative reviews, I suggest you take them with a grain of salt. The facility can't control wait times or pricing. For those who think that Premier purposely does unnecessary procedures to make money, know that Dr. Herppich did less than initially expected as she was able to pull info from my primary vets' tests. I would take my pet here again in a heartbeat and recommend them to every pet owner I know. I was preparing myself for the worst this weekend, but thanks to Dr. Herppich and Colette, I'm slowly starting to see a silver lining with my dog's condition. Fingers crossed read more

Edit/Reply: I was told multiple times there was one person working. Is it customary to have an emergency practice staffed this low? Idk, I know it's expensive but at an average of hundreds per client you'd think it'd be enough to cover two DVMs at 100/hr even if their shifts are 12 hours long as I was informed. My husband and I were in an extremely unexpected situation this weekend with our dog Bam. I am very disappointed with the ER of this hospital. While six years ago they saved my cat's life I think that the quality of services has dropped significantly. Three years ago I took my cat there because he was blocked and couldn't pee. It was the New Year's Eve and they told me that they don't have a doctor on shift because he is celebrating and they referred me to Med Vet where they took in my cat but he was later euthanized. Today I took my new kitten to the ER and they told me that there will be at least one hour wait time because doctors are rounding up the patients and there's no doctor to see him immediately. Seriously? I thought that this is emergency room? Then why do you charge emergency fees if doctors don't seem to be available 24 hours a day? read more

4/2022 5* My daughter needed a vet hospital in a hurry. Unfortunately, there was very little they could do to help. It was too late. But they helped her with a room, and treated her dog right away. Kept us updated, etc. In the end, we needed them to help with the worst think a pet owner can do and that is to have to say goodbye to a long time companion, friend, and family member. The staff was amazing! How helpful. The quiet room was available to use for everything. Dimmed lights, soft comfy chair and small sofa. Places to lounge with our family as we were saying goodbye for the last time. Hearing the soft birds chirping in the background helped distract things as well. They allowed us to bring our other dog in so they could say their own type of goodbye was very helpful. A better experience for the "entire" family. They made us a believer in their services. And hoping to never need a pet hospital again in life. But if we or any friends do. We know exactly where to go or recommend. Thanks for a "great" time in a sad circumstance. read more

I was worried about my 13 year old pup, as her breathing rate was escalated. She has a lot of medical issues. Went to their online booking and scheduled an ER appt. But I also called to be sure it wasn't considered something needing immediate attention. They said just bring her in and let the nurse take her vitals. We were seen immediately and after checking her vitals, the tech said all was normal particularly her heart rate. I was there for 15 minutes. I went to the front desk to pay and they said "NO CHARGE FOR TODAY." Doesn't get better than that. And that's how to run a business with kindness. My elderly dog came down with pneumonia and had to be hospitalized here for two and a half days. The doctors, nurses, and front desk staff couldn't have been kinder, more empathetic, or more knowledgable from the time we arrived to the time I came to pick her up yesterday afternoon. They've also very patiently taken my numerous calls in the 24-hours since that time, inquiring about shallow breathing - a common symptom when recovering from pneumonia, but a terrifying one if you're the dog mom. I can't thank Premier enough. They saved my dog, and they made me feel so much better in a very scary time. (For what it's worth, I called MedVet first because they are 10 minutes closer to my home and I wanted to ask about their current emergency room wait time. The operator there rudely told me I couldn't ask that question, I just had to come in. my dog was really not feeling well for the first time ever and at the worst financial time. we were just moving and had all these moving costs that came out when she had fallen I'll. I brought my dog there and they quoted me upwards of $1000 just for testing, of which I couldn't afford, so they made an assumption of dehydration and gave her a nausea pill and we went home. my dog got worse, and overnight passed away. they sent her home. they just sent her home. When I called back to say she was worse and what could I do. And it was just like she needs help find a place where you can afford to get her help. It just is the worse. Not to mention I just looked and they use care credit and scratch pay and never even mentioned it! I may be very upset and screamed but I called back and was very nice and the lady hung up on me. We took our pittie here for an injured paw, she was bleeding nonstop, they told us that she had a puncture wound, & what needed to be done to stop the bleeding & get her well again. Well they fixed her up, & even refunded us because it wasn't as complicated as originally quoted. We have never had to take her to a an emergency vet, but now we know where we would be going if the need presents itself. They are honest. Wonderful & attentive staff. Horrible experience for urgent situations. We attempted to bring our dog here early in the morning after not being able to get into our normal vet. After explaining the symptoms, they advised that he needed to be seen today. Because they were busy, they recommended we go home and wait rather than hanging around in the waiting room with an ill animal. The estimated wait time was 4 hours, but they said they would call us when they were ready. After 8 hours and no update, we reached out to see what was going on. They adjusted the wait time to another hour due to longer than expected wait times. We waited another 4 hours and no update. After 12+ hours, the only explanation they could provide was to continue to wait and that they were experiencing a high volume. An entire day was lost trying to get care for a sick animal, who in the end was left unseen. You feel helpless in these situations where you have no control and cannot find care in a timely manner. read more
