Sunday breakfast at Frida's Cafe was such a neat start to the day! We ordered the Frida Huevo Rancheros (wish the sauce was a bit thicker), Desayuno Huas Teco (the ham and eggs were yummy), a short stack of pancakes (which were perfectly fluffy), and a side of fresh fruit (nicely arranged)--everything was pretty tasty overall. The restaurant wasn't very busy, so we enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, the prices were reasonable, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The Frida Kahlo-inspired décor was bright, colorful, and fun--it added a unique vibe that made the experience feel special. Overall, a solid choice for a tasty, laid-back breakfast spot in Tucson that didn't seem impossible to get into like some other places on the weekend. This was a cute small cafe. It is seat yourself with indoor and a patio dining options available to choose from. The staff was friendly and recommended some options and substitutes. I ordered the Diego Rivera Sandwich. It was delicious. I was worried it would be too spicy, but that wasn't the case at all. It was very flavorful. I came in with a friend after a hike, so we were a little underdressed, but the whole restaurant is more on the casual side so we felt okay. We sat outside which was shaded and very cute! The menu is very large and we felt slightly overwhelmed but I decided on the Tartine with a side of sausage and my friend got the Veggie Breakfast Burrito. The Tartine says it comes with whole wheat bread or jalapeño corn bread, and after I ordered I realized I forgot to specify which bread I wanted and was never asked. Upon tasting, I think the bread was just regular bread, which was fine but I feel is something that I could have been informed about before hand. However, the presentation of food was beautiful! Everything we ate tasted very fresh, including the freshly squeezed orange juice, which was much more than a "shot". I loved my meal, but I do feel it was a small portion for the price. Though, the breakfast burrito was one of the cheapest things on the menu and was quite substantial. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and my time at Frida's Cafe! My kid and I got right in the nick of time like at 10 or so- after that let's say- 11 on, you'd be waiting outside for your name to be called. You'll find breakfast, brunch, lunch, beer, some alcohol beverages, fresh pressed juices, etc. Expect burritos, tacos and other dishes with names like 'El Gordito Diego' sandwich, 'Hummingbird Omelette', 'Frida & Diego Chilaquiles', etc. My kid liked her cheesy veg omelette with a tasty side of rajas poblanas+corn and my mushroom+provolone omelette was tasty and what took my dish to another level was the side of fresh fruit. The pineapple was sweet, the oranges- heck, there are oranges and then there are oranges- somehow, these were freaking tasty. The single pancake my kid and I shared tasted doughy and was densed. I chose Fridas cafe on Yelp, and it's a nice cozy place with a Mexican them, pretty much everything has chili on or in it. I ordered the Monarca salad with fruit. Although it was good it wasn't great. It came with grilled chicken that had no taste whatsoever, and the poppyseed dressing was also tasteless. I did enjoy the fruit that came with my salad. Not sure if I'd come again if I did I'd get the hamburger, but why come to a Mexican themed restaurant for a burger I can't imagine what that would taste like probably as bland as the grilled chicken, no thank you. This place is a hidden gem! We were looking for a cafe for brunch and stumbled upon it. I love that the cafe embraces Frida with the artwork and menu. We went ahead and tried an item on the breakfast and lunch side. Both were flavorful. The rancheros had a nice little spice to it but wasn't overpowering in anyway. Our waitress was fantastic and informed us of some changes in pricing due to the high cost of eggs. Understandably since egg prices are insane atm. I do appreciate that the business doesn't want to raise the egg prices permanently but need to do to the current market. Can't wait to go back! read more

Gem alert! My partner and I were up early and looking for place open early for breakfast. We found Frida's at Craycroft and Grant. We arrived at 6:15am and were greeted and seated by a friendly server. Frida's, of course, has multiple pictures of Frida Kahlo, but the decor isn't fussy. It's clean and comfortable with indoor and patio seating. On to the menu...there are many options from pancakes, to omelets, to Mexitartine. They also have early bird specials available from 6-8am. I opted for the Tartine, and my partner got The Dream omelette. Our food arrived quickly and was beautifully presented in the plate. I selected jalapeño bread for my Tartine, and it was a perfect match for the rich poached egg, oranges, avocado, and micro green salad. It is served with a freshly squeezed glass of orange juice, which also was delicious. My partner enjoyed his Dream omelette that was filled with tomatoes, elote, onion, and queso. He tried both the fresh green and red salsas on it and loved the heat in the red one. He choose swirl rye toast to accompany the eggs and appreciated that it wasn't covered in butter. A couple that came in much after us ate and left before we were finished with breakfast. Our drinks were never refilled, which was extra irritating when my bitter iced tea was $4.50. Food was fine. This is class food. Take a look at the menu, amazing flavor/ingredient combinations! I had the Mexitartine--delightful! They must make their own cornbread-like loaf bread. It was served on a toasted slice of this jalapeño cornbread. The sauce had good flavor without being overbearing. Every flavor works with each other. I also had one vanilla bean pancake. Nice twist on the ol' pancake theme. The Mexitartine comes with a small glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. It was SO good, I ordered another full glass. In both glasses, I spit out a seed and a chunk of pulp. That's not a negative, that's a plus. Shows it really is freshly squeezed. And it was delicious. My server's name was Genesis. She was smiley and pleasant the whole time. A couple of other waitresses were not so much. She was great. Portrait of the artist Frida all over the walls. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Frida's is a cool breakfast /brunch/ lunch spot at the corner of Grant and Craycroft in Tucson. They serve an eclectic variety of American/Mexican dishes, all home-made by the owner/head chef. The owner likes to make sure you know that "Everything is home made and fresh". Just looking at all of the 5-star reviews here on Yelp tells you everything you need to know. From the ample friendly and engaging staff, to the wonderful fare of delightful dishes, you can't help but want to visit this place for a nice morning breakfast or lunch. I have had both breakfast and lunch here, and all my meals were excellent. The prices are very reasonable and the presentation of each meal was picture-worthy. I love what they do with the blending of both regular American classics that include a Mexican flare. Their salads are all fresh Spring Mix lettuces (no iceberg here) with a variety of veggies, and include one of 2 fresh made house dressings. Both dressings are excellent. They have a good variety of proteins available as well for bigger appetites, including salmon. Their breakfasts include a wide variety of the standard Mexican fare including Buritos, Rancheros and Chilaquiles dishes and a wonderful array of omletts to choose from. Came in mid morning on MLK holiday, and still had open tables. It is a small cafe in the Chuze Fitness plaza with Frida Kahlo decorations and bright tablecloths. Seat yourself and order a freshly squeezed juice. There are daily specials on the board or order from the menu. The server came quickly to bring us water and menus. The food was really good. I think Frida's has a lot of potential but needs some polish to truly shine. Had lunch there today with a large party. The breadth of the menu is impressive for a breakfast/lunch place. Interior screams strip mall diner with stark white walls and random Frida-themed art. The brunch menu features several Mexican standards like Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles as well as a Mextartine with rajas. I ordered the chilaquiles but drooled over my friends dish. Other items are themed twists on diner classics, the Reubencito with provalone and a BLT with grilled jalapeños. I really enjoyed my dish and quite large blended mango margaritas. Other dishes had mixed reviews but overall it was good. The servers were nice, but they need some polish. One server spilled an entire glass of ice water down one of the ladies' backs. There were lots of banging and clangs when plates were set down, glasses refilled with the wrong beverages, just little things that made the experience less polished. Took a drive to the east side and it was worth it! I had the Chilaquiles and it was super fresh, a little spicy, a little crunchy, and way filling. Eggs were light and fluffy, green sauce had some kick and the red sauce was warm and tasty just the way I like it. Mom had the French toast and sausage and she cleaned her entire plate (which never happens). The seating area was extremely clean with bright clean sarape blankets for tablecloths, the waitress was very efficient and friendly, and the food was delicious! Coffee was hot and fresh brewed. Hours on the sign were 6:00 to 2:00 and we were there about 7:30 with hardly anyone else. Would love to eat there again, maybe next trip down. read more
