We've been going here for years now, so this is not a first impression/experience post. From a 5 star to a 2 star I am afraid. Prep used to be the #1 spot in Tucson for breakfast, but we just didn't feel the love, since so many changes have been made. The OG staff is gone now. No more, as friendly, attentive, committed team that took ownership over their roles and chipped in to help each other make the customer experience special; made you feel like you were the only one, a family member, there to enjoy a meal. The new team is nice, but something is just missing now.. We learned that the OG pastry chef is no longer there. She put prep on the map. The dishes and pastries have lost something without her. Shame. And then the big sign, they bombed the grilled cheese. Don't mess with the classics. It is a sad day when you send back a grilled cheese sandwich. Good for the 1 timers, not so good for the regulars; missing the love. Bummer. Time will tell... read more

First time here and one of my favorite places now. New to Tucson from Cali and definitely a "foodie" with a twist; major food allergies. Our waitress was very nice but she got my order wrong. I told the server that brought us our food. He was a guy w dark hair and a pony tail and glasses. He didn't say "sorry" or anything. Just picked my plate up like I was an inconvenience to him. No update on when my food would be done either. Would have been nice considering the others in my party had their food. The service at this place has really gone down, the food isn't that great and it's a bit overpriced. read more

I had very high hopes for this place based on the reviews. Last time I was in town I attempted to get into Campbell store but it was an hour wait. Fast forward today and we head over for brunch. The wait was only 20 minutes and when we were seated the chairs were wet and table was wet. Not starting off great. I asked for extra napkins to wipe things down and figured no big deal. I ordered the Bloody Mary and steak sandwich. The Bloody was really tasty and came with a shot of coffee stout. 2 thumbs up on the drink. The sandwich was very underwhelming. It looked delicious but the bialy was super greasy. Like 3 napkins needed greasy. The egg and arugula had zero flavor and the meat was full of fat. The only redeeming thing on the sandwich was the tomato jam. The BF got the burger and my sister ordered the spinach salad and a biscuit on the side. They both said the food was good but not memorable. Based on reviews and the Bloody Mary, I'm going to give this place a second try. But they need to step it up to impress me. read more

I've heard great things over the years. So I finally went to check it out today. Their Bloody Mary is fire! I had the Pork & Poblano Benedict which was delicious. My boyfriend got the club sandwich. He is lactose intolerant, we told our waiter this, and asked for no aioli. The sandwich came with butter slathered on top. A member of the staff, Deanna, was very helpful and rectified the situation quickly. She even brought him extra guac! All in all, we enjoyed the food and friendly service. read more

This restaurant is modern, inviting, quirky, clean, and bright! The aesthetics, from the sleek glass pastry display case, to the cool gray planked floors, to the vibrant herringbone tile accents on the walls, left nothing lacking. I'll also note the restroom was nice, clean, and family friendly with a changing table inside. The food was also good. I got the simple breakfast with turkey sausage. I enjoyed everything. The jam for my toast was quite interesting and reminded me of strawberry icecream in a good way :) However, I wish their menu had noted there was an option to get a side salad instead of fries with a sandwich. My husband and I went here last week for breakfast! It was super tasty. The food was well portioned and was really filling. Their bacon was like no other. If more than five stars existed, Prep and Pastry would get them. From the hostess, to the servers, to the delicious food and carefully picked out menu this place is now one of my favorites. We ordered The Salmon Bene, an eggs Benedict dish served on a cheddar biscuit with spinach and hollandsise. The potatoes that accompanied the Benedict were perfectly crispy on the outside and very tender and creamy on the inside. I would say these potatoes are better than mine even. We also ordered the French toast special made with pumpkin bread topped with strawberry candies walnuts and whipped cream. Absolutely delicious. I can't wait to try lunch. Went at 1pm on a Saturday and it was remarkably quiet and we were seated immediately. Sat outside and service was good. Bloody Mary's were ok but not worth $11. We all ordered something different and each had the same reaction...not good. The servers were talking about personal dating problems loudly that actually made us chuckle...still the conversation was not appropriate for kids and certainly unprofessional at any age. read more

This was not the day to go to this place. Very slow! But, I don't hold that against them. A lot of people would be very negative. Ok, so they had a bad day just like the rest of us. Yes, service was slow but they were understaffed. It happens! Never had a bad meal here, always top notch. I wanted the salmon Beni but it is no longer on the menu. So, I ordered the Harissa Shakshuka and my wife ordered a 1/2 order of the biscuits and gravy with a side of chicken. We started out with bloody Mary's and they are great. Comes with a side of beer. Even though they were backed up, the food was great as was the service. John, the manager, kept telling he was sorry. We told him no big deal. Food is always great as is the service. One bad day like we all have. A definite place to go to for breakfast, or brunch. You can't beat them. Top of my list. BTW, you can get a half order of most things on their menu. We are continuously wowed by P&P (East). We simply have never had a bad experience and have tried numerous menu items. We usually go weekend breakfast so the crowd and wait time can be lengthy. After learning about the pre check-in on the app we don't worry about that anymore. Just pick your time to arrive and they keep you updated to length of wait time. Cool No reason to highlight individual staff because they are ALL excellent. Again, never had a bad experience. read more

This solo venture into Tucson's Brunch scene offered friendly staff, fresh coffee, Amazing pancakes, and dreamy well dressed staff that stepped up an already outstanding customer service experience by comping my meal due to an excessive wait time; which this NPR nerd didn't notice but, is forever grateful. We drove down to Tucson for a day adventure. The ending for said adventure was Prep & Pastry. ...little did we know that was actually the beginning of one hell of a food exploration (and the drinks weren't bad either!) Flavors like you can't believe. Delicious bites intertwined with savory and sweet. It was perfection. The green chile french toast would have been the best thing since sliced... bread. Except that I tried bites of my wife's grilled cheese. Holy tiny baby jesus. That will forever be the grilled cheese of my life. A note to the owner: Please, PLEASE, open a location in Phoenix. We just bought a house, I can't move to Tucson. But I will drive down monthly until you can make this happen! read more

Great menu, delicious flavors, exceptional service, light bright rooms. We ordered the special French toast of the day which was a "churro" version with cinnamon sugar. It was divine - moist inside, well browned and buttery from the butter on the grill and the buttery bread and almost crispy from the cinnamon sugar. A side of sweet glazed thick bacon was tasty but not quite rendered enough for me. It could have used a couple more minutes on the grill. My duck confit skillet was really, really good. Served in an 8" cast iron skillet literally the only thing it needed was a slice of toast. The duck morsels were not greasy, the herbed goat cheese dollops were tasty and the roasted crispy and yet soft super buttery potatoes were amazing. Two over medium eggs on top were another reason this dish needs a some bread included...maybe they were going for a GF designation I did not notice if that was case on the menu. The toast I ordered was one thick slide of a light wheat bread cut into two pointy half wedges. It was served dry but they offered butter. It came with fresh macerated strawberries. Since it was our first visit they said we get a free pastry. We took home the Vanilla Bourbon Doussant (donut/croissant combo). It was tasty but a bit dry by 9 pm when we tasted it. Pretty good food and service. Be warned it gets extremely packed very quickly. Average wait time is about 45-55 mins. So try to go in on a weekday rather than a weekend. Food has always been great, drinks always look adorable & tasty and the servers are quirky and sweet. Great place for brunch with your friends and family. It's the obsessive attention to detail. When I mean obsessive attention to detail, it's not just towards the food, but it's also the focus of every staff member of this restaurant. This alone took my experience to a new level. As I watched a staff member setting the table with care and precision to the exact placement of every piece silverware and napkin, I knew the food was going to exceed high standards and expectations. The price is beyond affordable for the quality and attention to detail that is put into every dish and pastry made here. The coffee had a robust flavor that paired well with sweetness of my croissant donut. The golden brown potatoes, crispy yet soft well complimented by the rosemary. The bacon had a playfully subtle and sweet character while maintaining a crisp exterior. The classic french toast wasn't just any french toast: they managed to take a simple food and make it the main masterpiece of my meal all accented with fresh berries and granola pieces. This all happened with a gorgeous view of the mountains as I reveled in the flavor of the food and a sublime mountainous view. From the moment I was greeted at the door, to the service of my waiter, the main attraction; the food, and to every observation I keyed on, this place exceeds a high standard. The few times I've been there it hasn't been stellar or anything but the food is so die for. Be sure to make a reservation though. This isn't a place you would want walk up on. The worst dining experience I've had in many years. First off is the problem of a large open space of hard flat walls & the way noise bounces all around the room (First Watch is like this too). There was a large group of 10 women having raucous fun at the expense of everyone other diner. Luckily I could take my hearing aids off although it really didn't help much. They hadn't been served yet & we expected there to be a wait (and there was). The food arrived & my wife's french toast was cold. She asked to have it heated & was told that they were not able to do that but could redo her order which she declined due to the already longer than usual wait. Mine was HARISSA SHAKSHUKA - a roasted red pepper based paste topped with 2 fried eggs & garnish. It was warm & heavily spiced which I like as long as there is something to cut the heat - bread, rice, potatoes, etc. It came in an 8" cast iron pan with about an inch of the paste. It was good but only came with one slice on nice bread that was cut diagonally to make each piece appear long. Once the bread was gone the heat built up & the was no relief. The coffee was more expensive than most places but good. The waitress never made an appearance with a refill. There is also the strange issue of the pastries. My wife was looking forward to some since the word pastry IS in the name of the place. Under poastries on the menu it states "DAILY FRESH BAKED GOODIES (IN LIMITED QUANTITIES). There was a very small 3-shelved pastry case off to the side. Only two shelves had any pastry & my wife was disappointed to report that what was there didn't look any better than what you see in the supermarket. (PS: Bread And Beyond has great pastries & is not even in the name!) In their defense, we were not charged for the cold french toast nor the coffee. But we did something that we'd NEVER done before - we did not leave a tip. read more

This is the first time my husband and I have eaten here. We were seated right away. It took a little while to order since we didn't know the menu. Once we ordered the food it came quickly and it was very delicious! The staff was very professional. They were always helpful and watchful. (But not annoying). They paid attention if you were done and then came over to wrap the leftovers up. I think I counted three different people helping us and check on us. All of them top notch. I love it when the staff seem genuinely happy working at a place. Creates a positive foundation for food to be prepared, served, and consumed in a way that leaves you charged up as a meal should. This place ticked all the boxes. Menu full of interesting items. Fresh ingredients and in house made staples. Stopped in for brunch and I had an amazing experience-- just as I always do at their Campbell location. They have the same awesome menu and today I learned a new tip: you can order almost any of their entrees in a half size if you aren't feeling as hungry! I had The Cure mimosa, which was just as sweet as promised, The Beni, and I ordered a chicken and toast to go to bring home to the hungry boyfriend at home. We were both very satisfied with our meals! The Beni came with their potatoes that were sooo good, my friend ordered a side of it to go with her meal. Overall, the same great experience with the same great attentive staff at this new location. We will be back again soon!! read more
