Very convenient Prêt à Manger store near Rockefeller Center and the Broadway theater area. Prices slightly higher than at other stores. Soups and sandwiches were delicious, as well as the guava lemonade. Service was spotty, some cashiers didn't know that they serve quiches (they do). I'm familiar with Pret since I used to frequent them weekly when I lived in London. Pret in America has sandwiches that are (obviously) for the American palate. The one thing I wish: please have a "no mayo" sandwich like you do in the UK!!! Not every American likes their sandwich smothered in mayo or some mayo-based spread. I can't eat any sandwich at Pret, unfortunately, but do like their hot wraps and their tea. Oh yes! They brew a good breakfast tea, which is what I namely frequented this location for. Pret has consistently been your old stand by for a quick, yummy, and rather pleasant overall experience. Most notably, service used to be so wonderfully welcoming. Every Pret used to have such friendly service that it made the food taste that much better. Yet, something happened a few years ago. I don't know what changed, but service just went down hill. The food is still fits the bill, and you can still find reasonably healthy options. But, I really miss the old Pret that was flavored with a smile. Oh well. Is it fair to say... "you go to 1 Pret, you've been to all Pret"? Well... in my case, comparing to the one in midtown west by my old job; pretty much the same through out. The service is friendly. Food item offerings; almost identical... 99.9%... and the wait for lattes... yes, inconsistent. Sometimes fast. Sometimes... not sure where it went. I'd like to think Pret A Manger is a lunch "safe bet". Especially when you don't have enough time and you just need a quick bite; this is your go-to. Why? Because the food is consistent. Bread is delicious. Sandwiches are better than their salad. Is it amazing? Not really. But not a bad choice for Manhattan prices (ranges of $7 - $12 lunches). Poor service. I walked in to Pret this morning to get my favorite oatmeal and topping. Two staff members behind the counter. They see me, but don't say a word, not even "good morning". One is preparing coffee, not sure what the other is doing, so I wait. Meanwhile a line is forming behind me. Another staff member walks out to the counter and greets the person behind me and takes their order. Wtf! Am I invisible? I lnstead of causing a commotion , I leave everything in the counter and walk out. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to me at this location. Nor is it the second or third time. I live in the same building as this Pret, so it is very convenient for me, but the service is just inexcusable. I grabbed lunch there yesterday and was surprised and disappointed with the COVID precautions. As every Pret-eater knows, most of the food is wrapped but self-service -- customers can touch everything they want and then pull out the item they select. Pre-COVID, this was efficient. Post-COVID, I'm worried that everyone has touched my food, and this establishment didn't create any new rules or precautious to prevent people from breathing all over the items. How many times have you taken a sandwich, inspected it through the transparent wrapping ... and returned it to get a better specimen? Yeah, me too. And post-COVID, I don't like thinking about all the customers before me. Also, the cashier did not have gloves. She was friendly and asked if I wanted a bag for my premade chicken avocado sandwich, a spoon for my (tasty) "Little Bit of Goodness" yoghurt and some napkins. I said yes, and the cashier provided. The "no gloves" policy may be ok, but part of the dining experience is the confidence knowing that the food is clean. The Super Green: Malted Wholegrain Bread + Avocado + Kale & Spinach Mix + Red Peppers + Toasted Almonds + Pret Seasoning Half a freshly sliced avocado and a dollop of kale dressing (blended with wild mushrooms, lemon juice and tofu). Topped with red pepper rings and toasted flaked almonds. It was f*cking delicious. Kind of gnarly at first like when you first start choking down a kale juice, but then the hints of avocado and the crunch of the sweet almonds came through and I was like wow, this beats that chicken club any day of the week. This sandwich was awesome and was the perfect light bite I needed; not too filling, but very satisfying. Okay, so it's pre-made to-go food under fluorescent lighting, but you guys, it's GOOD to-go food. Fresh, thoughtfully prepared and balanced flavors make Pret a Manger by far my preferred method of fast food-ish dining, especially sine their locations are always spotlessly clean and the staff friendly and helpful rather than just this side of frightening. Pret started in London, and while the English aren't exactly renowned for their cuisine, this is an ingenious idea and one I am glad to see make it across the pond. Fresh sandwiches, soups, ask ads and fruits with a line of tasty chips and drinks to compliment. Do yourself a favor and skip the disgusting burger joints, sodium-laden "burritos" and e-coli laced salads and head to Pret. Their almond croissant is amazing. It has a nice flakey consistency and a sweet almond filling. They also have a lot of healthy options for breakfast when you don't wanna eat 500 calories at 9 am. They do oatmeal and a bunch of other parfaits and muesli type things. For lunch the wraps and sandwiches are pretty good. They're pre made and a little on the small side but they are all relatively healthy if you pick the right things like avocado chicken sandwich or the cilantro shrimp wrap.
