    Octopus

I'm not certain where these other reviewers ate, but I definitely had a different experience. I had the octopus appetizer that was almost an entree itself. My wife had the carbonara and it was delicious. A little side note about carbonara: many places and people make this incorrectly. My favorite celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, doesn't make it correctly. This place makes it the authentic Italian way with NO CREAM! And they use guanciale instead of bacon or pancetta. Yes, I am a bit of a food snob. I had the skirt steak for my entree and it was beautifully cooked and well seasoned with fingerling potatoes and broccolini. The green sauce was done well with the right amount of seasoning. We also had the artichokes. They were not overly salty as one reviewer posted Our server was very well informed and being from Eastern Europe, I was also impressed with his pronunciation of the Italian names of the dishes. It is a lovely and charming restaurant that is a great spot in downtown Youngstown.

    Lemon sorbet dessert. Refreshing.

Best dinner before the show in a lovely room with a nice bar. This family restaurant hand makes everything. And, yum. Everything tasted wonderfully. We started with wine and Caprese salad, Devils on Horseback dates, and Calamari. All were delicious. The Calamari was lightly fried and included two large shrimps. For entrees I had a fabulous grilled octopus starter called Polpo and some of the Calamari. Others had the Skirt steak that was large with a nice flavor, but was a lot of meat with a side of greens. The lamp chops were not on the menu, but my friend, who's a regular here, asked and received. She really liked the six chops. The evening's special was trout, and it was outstanding, said my husband who orders fish when we dine out. Next time we will try the handmade pasta. Having dessert was worth the extra time. We had lemon sorbet in a hollowed out lemon. The presentation in a martini glass was very creative with the cut lemon end used as the cap. Refreshing!

I ended up taking my meal to-go and ate it later -- absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the bartender completely changed the experience for me. She was a redhead working the bar around 7:30 PM, and from the moment I sat down, she was noticeably unwelcoming. I was literally the only person sitting at the bar, yet she barely checked on me, offered no conversation, and honestly came across with an attitude the entire time. As someone who has worked in the bartending industry myself and who travels often visiting different restaurants and bars, hospitality matters. A bartender sets the tone for the entire experience, especially for solo guests. Sitting alone at a bar can already feel awkward enough, and a warm, welcoming attitude goes a long way. I still tipped her generously despite the experience, because that's just who I am, but management should really pay attention to how guests are being treated behind the bar. It's disappointing because I truly loved the place itself and wanted to give it a full 5 stars. With better customer interaction from the bartender, this place would easily deserve it. The day I was there tonight, which was May 18th 2026. I arrived about 730 and left about 845.

It's a full unreserved recommend highly and take Mom and Pop for lunch too! Seriously, Westside Bowl DOES have great pizza. They got a LOT of off street safe free parking. The people who work there are friendly AND fun to look at. (not being mean, I just like green hair and a smile ) There are regularly scheduled bands. Some of which do cost $20+ to see, but it's a good concert space downstairs with a good vibe. It's not like you're stuffed into "JJ's Cave" or something. Remember Nyanhinghi? Nitabinghi? That bar that had music up on Steel street? Same good vibe. And that's really the point I'm trying to make. The Westside Bowl is an exemplar (ha!) of what could happen when good, ON SITE management means to a venue. Hit this place up for some cool and mellow times, and enjoy your afternoon. Your night. Your health. This place will make you younger, I #### you not

Good food, great bar, fantastic music and a small but nice arcade. The lanes could use a refinishing, but you can't beat the $10 an hour price. I'm definitely going back. You do have to keep your own score, but if you don't know how to, watch a 30 second you tube, it's really easy. I want to go back when they have a band, they have an awesome stage area.
