Walked in and was hit with the most amazing smell -- definitely had me excited. Sadly, the food didn't match the aroma. I ordered the Prima salad and a pizza, half plain half sausage. I asked for dressing on the side for my salad, but it came drenched anyway. Unfortunately, it lacked the crunch I love. The pizza was just okay -- your standard New Jersey slice. Not bad, but nothing to drive out of the way for.

9/16/25 - We pre-gamed tonight at Prima Pizza Kitchen in Somerville, NJ. I've had mixed experiences at the pizzerias of that area so my expectations were pretty low. But tonight I was pleasantly surprised. Prima Pizza Kitchen definitely specializes in thin crust pizzas. There's not a great selection in the slice case up front, but I was able to spot a sausage slice to go with my plain slice for testing purposes. The plain slice had a super delicious sauce. Whoever made the sauce has a heavy hand when it comes to the Italian spices especially the oregano. And I certainly have no complaints about that. The cheese is a wonderful premium mozzarella and has great flavor. I loved the thin, crispy and crunchy crust. The knock on this one is it's a bit limp. The toppings don't slide off but you definitely have to get underneath it to take a bite. The sausage slice has all those same delicious attributes but the slices of premium sausage add wonderful flavor. Again, this slice is a bit limp but like its plain cousin, there's no toppings sliding off. Most importantly, both slices are top-ranked when it comes to flavor. Garlic knots were just what you'd want. Slightly crispy on the outside. And chewy, moist and doughy on the inside. Each had a wonderful garlic flavor inside and out--- and with each bite. The front counter guy wasn't the warmest fellow I ever encountered but he was efficient and served the slices and the garlic knots quickly. And all the food was served hot. Overall Rating: A-

I promised I'd come in my next review for Prima. I opened the door and the heavenly smell of cooking pizza filled my lungs. Wonderful fast service. I got the same cauliflower pizza with onion peppers & sausage. Completely NOT in my diet . But it's Friday. And I happen to be in the neighborhood. Come in or order delivery

This is the biggest hidden pizza gem in all of Jersey. Top 3 slices I've ever had arguably the best plain slice I've ever had. Depends on what type of style I'm in the mood for Very very very New York style pizza. Owner is a super nice dude that my brother in law is friends with from the gym. Always kept telling him to come on down and I'm sure as hell happy he decided to. The sauce has a great savory flavor, cheese isn't overpowering that the crust?? Oh my god

Really enjoyed trying out Prima Pizza Kitchen! As followers of the One Bite from Barstool we knew we needed to try out their pizza because of the high ratings, and just as promised the pizza did not disappoint! It was thin crust with a healthy amount of cheese, and it was neatly made without it being sloppy. So definitely enjoyed. What I liked better however was the tuna hoagie. The lettuce and tomato were fresh, the seasoning was great, and the roll was fresh. The tuna salad itself was also wonderfully seasoned, and just like the pizza was neatly made. Highly recommend!

This is my go-to spot for pizza. I tried it for the first time when I had out-of-state friends in town last summer since it made it on one of those Best of lists. And now I've ordered it pretty much every week since. Always great food. The pizzas are always packed with toppings and flavor. While I've tried a bunch of different pizzas from their menu the absolute best is the eggplant marinara. It's very saucy and some find it spicy but it's the best.

Ordered the Portnoy thin crust. The pizza was horrible! It tasted like your everyday local chain plain pizza. Not to mention, the crust was from the prior day because it was stale and the crust falling apart when you ate it like it was chaulkey. It was not fresh dough and not worth $19. This will be the last time I come here. Their food is always hit or miss. I only came here because my typical spot Delucias was a 3 hour wait and wanted to give the Portnoy pizza a shot because it was rated an 8.1. My best guess is they made a special pizza just for him because they will never recreate it for anyone else! I guess I'll have to wait to get a good pizza at Delucias! IL Forno in Raritan even has a better pizza than this! I'm highly disappointed!! I would have eaten the whole pie if it was good. I had to at least fill my stomach because i was not going to buy another meal! I'll tell you where the rest of the pizza is going! Take a good frekin guess!!! It honestly tasted like they gave me a plain pie that was sitting out for walk-ins that they didn't sell!

We tried here last night (Halloween) after a lot of positive reviews from folks around Somerville. We called ahead of time and we're able to get through after multiple attempts. It was clear they were extremely busy. We were able to put an order in and they told us an hour and half for pick up. Totally fine. It was Halloween. We waited the hour and a half and went to go pick it up. Unfortunately when we got there, the food was not ready. We had to wait an additional thirty minutes or so. Ended up being little over two hours. The pizza was awesome! We got half grandma and half drummed grandma. Really good flavor. I bit into and instantly said: "this is the best pizza thus far in the Somerville area" since we moved here recently. The only thing we were a bit unhappy about were the wings. Not because they tasted bad. I feel they could be good. It's just that they were cold when we got home. I guess maybe they were made prior to the pizza. The pizza was completely warm. The wings were not. We heated them up in the oven and they ended up tasting wrought I want to point out, I can't fault them too much. They were working extremely hard in there and it was a holiday night. They were bound to be extremely busy. The only thing thing we minded was the wings. But mistakes happen. That's why we're going four stars on this one. I want to try them again. But probably not on a night like Halloween. Overall - pizza was amazing.

Ordered from their catering menu for wings and pizza during super bowl. Called a few days in advance and it was ready for pick up. The food was hot and ready to go before I even arrived, wings were saucy and flavorful, my only complaint was that it was soggy by the time my party enjoyed them. Pizza was great. I wish the prices on their website reflected their actual prices because the lady on the phone told me that those weren't right and had to keep checking what they were so I knew what I was paying.

Prima Pizza Kitchen is a delightful neighborhood pizzeria located in Somerville NJ. The staff was very friendly and inviting and service was quick. I went with a plain slice and a Margherita slice. The plain had a lovely, thin, crust. The cheese was pleasantly toasted and, though it was on the greasy side, really tasted great. The sauce was also notably good. This is a great standard slice. The Margherita slice featured a really great sauce and fresh garlic which packed the slice full of flavor. It also had the same thin-crust as the plain with a nice, smokey flavored crust. I enjoyed Prima and believe it's a good example of a decent neighborhood pizzeria. read more

I really like their pizza pies, but Friday's wait time is almost 2 hrs.. As long as you avoid ordering on Friday and Saturday evenings, you won't be disappointed, otherwise pick another place around - plenty of good choices within 5-minutes drive. read more

My friends and I were in the mood for pizza and we stumbled upon this place. I love it. The guys are super nice in there. The first time that we went I got the sausage and pepper slice and the eggplant pizza. The eggplant pizza is firrreeeee. I never thought that I would like eggplant on a pizza but this is a must try comibination. When we got it straight out of the oven there was a little bit of water accumulation from the eggplant, but it was still good and the edges of the crust were still crispy. If you want to try it make sure you go in before the lunch rush. If you call ahead they will put you a piece to the side as well. The crust is crispy and airy, the sauce is perfect. I you are a pizza person I definitely suggest that you try this spot! you will not regret it! I wish that I had a piece of that eggplant pie right now. LOL. read more

Wow. My family and I ordered from here for a pizza party through Grubhub. I scheduled the order a couple of days in advance and the pizza was delivered exactly on the dot! Soo impressive! The grandma was unreal. So full of flavor. I mean this is one of the best pizzas I've had in New Jersey to be honest. We also ordered pepp and onion (my go to) and a sausage, mushroom, and jalapeño. The pepperonis cup and are slightly crispy on the edges. The pies are loaded with the toppings. Such good hot, fresh, and salty pizza! Yum. Can't finish the review without mentioning their garlic Parmesan wings. Wow. Best garlic Parmesan wings I ever had. The family couldn't stop taking about how good they were and I wish id ordered two of these instead one of the Buffalo (also good). I'm so glad I discovered this spot and even though my parents live farther than we'd drive for a local pizza shop, it is worth it!!! I'll be coming here again whenever I am back home. I wish I took photos but was too busy enjoying. read more

Gave Prima Pizza Kitchen in Somerville a try tonight. Went with the Sicilian and a large 1/2 plain 1/2 pepperoni (requested thin crust). Both were nice pies. The Sicilian was not the typical thick crust Sicilian, more like a grandma pie crust. Light sauce and cheese, and next time I think I'd order it not as well done, but it was very tasty. The large pie was also good, and they delivered on the thin crust request. Very friendly staff as well! read more

The employees are amazing. The food is great. Can not recommend this place enough. It is the best pizza in Somerville NJ. Sometimes I have to stop myself from ordering from this place twice a week. Typical little pizza place, but they have great sandwiches & their pizzas are so good. Their grandma's Sicilian is amazing. Their special pizzas are so good. Staff is always friendly and orders are always ready when they say they are. Hidden around the corner from Gaston Ave, a little bit off the beaten path but not too far out of town. Prima is our go-to spot for pizza delivery. My husband and I order at least once a week and are never disappointed. We've tried at least 10 different pies but some of our faves are traditional 1/2 pepperoni with extra cheese, the champlain, and the drunken grandma. One of the things I like best is the crust. I hate when pizza has great toppings and a bland crust but theirs has the perfect amount of salt and it's not floppy or too hard (that's what she said). My husband always gets an order of garlic knots which are usually soft and perfectly garlicky. I am OBSESSED with the prima salad (I ate it before I could take a pic sorry!). It's like eating a deconstructed Italian sub - I love how the meats and cheeses are chopped up into bite sized pieces and paired with the sun dried tomatoes and chickpeas. It's just amazeballs. I have to give a shout out to the delivery driver too. I'm so sorry I can't remember his name but he is so timely and professional. Our apartment complex is a little complicated and he always knows exactly where to drop it off & is super friendly. The guys at Prima are great and we love supporting our favorite local pizza place. read more

This is a nice clean mom a pop shop with good pizza. The pizzas at the display look a little overdone but they taste just fine. Good even. It's conveniently located on N. Gaston Rd., in Somerville, though they don't have a road-facing entrance or a sign on the road entrance that there is a pizza place and I can imagine how much business they must be missing out on. Perhaps they should put a sign out by the road. Their 2 Slice Special with Soda for $3.95 is very budget friendly. Almost every other person that walked in ordered it. read more

I have heard great things about Prima for months, was in the area and needed to try. My brother and I went for the Champlain pie, which was hands down a 5/5. The crust was incredible and the marinara sauce they use really brings it over the top. The pie looks like a piece of art. Jerry is a great guy who has mastered his craft, and hope this place gets all the recognition it deserves. I can't wait to go back soon and try the upside down grandma I have heard about, and many more of their special pies. The 2 slice/1 soda deal they offer is so amazing, class act and genuine great people! read more

Quite possibly the best pizza in the area. The drunken grandma pizza is always made with the same elite quality and the staff is super friendly. My wife and I stop by every Friday for their pizza specials and the pizza is always fresh. Highly recommend for anyone swinging by the Somerville area. read more

Food isn't bad but the customer service has a lot to be desired. The gentlemen with the black hair was extremely unfriendly and really turned me off this place. Why patronize a place where the business owners are rude? There are about a dozen pizza places within a mile radius that are friendly and appreciate your business. read more

This is by far my favorite pizza joint in NJ! Back when my boyfriend lived in Somerville we would order from here at least once or even twice a week (that's how much we love it)! A plain Margherita pizza is great here also but we always loved getting the Buffalo Chicken pizza along with Mozzarella Sticks, Fried Calamari, and Garlic Knots! We've even tried the Hawaiian Pizza (I'm a sucker for pineapple on my pizza) and Meat Lovers Pizza -- all fantastic choices!! We would always make sure to order a large so we could have leftovers because even the leftovers from here would taste good! Pizza here overall is amazing and I miss it so much! read more

By far the best pizza I've tasted ever is the Eggplant Marinara pizza at Prima Pizza Kitchen which takes some time, so if your in a hurry, don't order this one. I never ever thought I liked eggplant on pizza until some friends raved about this one! They did not lie...now I'm hooked! I believe they sauté the eggplant to order and it is just seasoned and not breaded! Then they put the prepared eggplant on the pizza and bake the pizza. They finish it with fresh sprigs of basil and then a nice sprinkling of Parmesan Reggiano! Felicimo! Really quite delicious and they crust is gooey yet not raw and tastes superb! Give this one a try if your in Somerville or take a special trip. read more

So one thing is certain, and I am peripherally associated with the restaurant business, this place is excellent. Really first class. Forget the goofy reviews, and even Fox News, those are alternative facts. This place is great. There is cooking, and there is talent. These people have talent. Just walk in and look at the place. People clean, facility clean, pizza in the case looks like art. You can't make a wrong decision, so many things are great, one pizza better then the next. read more

Placed a catering order from here and did not disappoint. Had some issues placing the order over the phone earlier (might have been during a busier time) but managed to get a hold of someone later on and placed the order by messaging them. Food was very good...penne vodka, eggplant parm, chicken francese, buffalo pie, grandma's pie. Standard Italian fare but done well and reasonably priced. Will definitely come back for pizza in the future. read more

We ordered a pizza tonight before 5:00 pm and not only did the pizza arrive over one and a half hours later it was ice cold! all the delivery driver said when I questioned him was "Sorry "! We only live two blocks from the shop, why was it cold!! The only explanation I received fro JERRY at the pizzeria was that it's Saturday night and they are busy. We contacted SLICE who graciously refunded our entire purchase. Love SLICE but will not be patronizing PRIMA PIZZA again. Horrible customer service! read more

Highly recommend! I was torn between deciding on a baked ziti pie and a grandma pie, and luckily they were able to accommodate half and half so I could have both (see picture). The entire meal felt as if I was in heaven. High quality ingredients and both options are what I consider to be some of the best pizza I have ever had! My boyfriend ordered the chicken parm and raved about how the red sauce was one of the best he has ever had. If my wallet and waistline allowed me to order every day, I would! read more

A+ pizza! Came in today for a half plain half pepperoni pie and it was delicious. Best around in my opinion and I have been to just about every pizza joint in the area! My 11 year only son said it was the best pizza he ever had! Sauce was sweet and tangy, pepperoni was sweet and had a nice bite whiteout being too spicy. Staff was friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. To top it off the prices were very reasonable. This just may be our new favorite pizza spot. Looking forward to our next visit! read more

In town visiting for the holidays, and we wanted to get some tasty NY style slices -- Prima Pizza did not disappoint. 2 slices of cheese pizza + soda for $3.95?! SOLD (that price will barely get you one measly slice in SF). We tried a few different slices, but their cheese pizza was my favorite. You can tell a lot about a pizza establishment by their cheese pizza. Simplicity trumps everything. Their crust was perfectly crispy & thin while keeping the slightest bit of chewiness, and the tomato sauce + cheese ratio was spot on. It was so delicious. I'll be thinking about them for days, months, and years to come. read more

When I picked up my pie, we ate our first slices outside. The pizza was warm, and I wish it was scolding hot. This was phone order that we picked up in 25 minutes. So I don't know if this pie was one that was already made. The pie was well done. I like my pie with some white mozzarella cheese still on the pie. The pie was kinda orange when you look at the pictures I posted. Some of the crust and slice underneath was burnt. Plus when you look at the pie, it was not a perfect circle. One slice was out of place. As for the pizza slice, it was a bit on the salty side. The pizza base crust was a little on the heavy side. It was not thinner or on the lighter side. This reminded me of the way Vermont pizza is made, well done. The pizza was ok, and people's opinion is very subjective. What one person thinks is a 9.4 out of 10, could be an 8.4 by another. I couldn't test if the crust held up the cheese and sauce since I picked it up warm. From what I gathered with the underside crust, I would not flop since the crust was on the heavy side. Overall, I would try it out again and eat in so I get the great experience of the pizza pie coming right out of the oven!

I think this place has gained popularity in the area recently and it definitely has some really good pizza. We've gotten their famous Champlain pizza several times and it's really delicious with the thin crust. The sauce is definitely very unique and flavor, it almost has a smoky taste. My only issue with the sauce is that it is a bit too salty. We've tried a few other things off the menu, and the quality is always great and consistent. Definitely recommend that you give this place a shot and try the famous pizza! read more

I would give them no stars. The pizza was cold and tasteless. The manager could care less about my complaints. The place was dirty and smelled like rotten eggs. If you are in Somerville area and want good pizza you should try somewhere else. I have been to several other pizza places in the area and they are so much better. read more
