Beautiful restaurant that's in an old renovated mansion. They have outdoor seating for a few people in the front porch area and plenty of dining indoors. The main dining area is very traditional, they kept it very intimate with the dim lighting and old Italian music. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly, and they have a delicious menu with a large variety of pasta dishes. I got the fusilli pasta and it was very tasty, could have used more spices but I didn't mind because I was able to add as much pepper and salt as I wanted. The portion size was also great! I couldn't finish my plate even though it doesn't look like much in the photo, the amount was enough for two people to split. We shared the cheesecake for desert and I will say it was a nice light desert but it tasted more like a light milk mousse cake than cheesecake. I loved this place for the fact that the pasta and sauce tasted very homemade, and of course the historic exterior look of the building. The food was very good but what prompted my five stars was the fine extremely friendly service right to the end and to the door. (Except for my personal water refill - I was skipped 2x on water refills and that's all I drank so my glass was empty). The wine was refilled more than was needed. Our waiter was excellent and knowledgable of the menu choices. We ordered a large variety of items. The mozzarella w tomato and peppers was presented nicely. The gnocchi were good. The black squid ink pasta seafood dish was good but drowned in a lot of sauce and shellfish so hard to taste the black ink. The portions were large. I left the area years ago, but have family who remain nearby (Mahopac). I'd never been to Primavera, as most of my family hadn't. We had our Easter ('19) family lunch here on the recommendation of my sister's family, who dine here monthly. It was an excellent experience! For a very busy afternoon, and our seating at 2pm, which I presume was their first of the day, Primavera's staff was incredible--attentive, thorough, accommodating, and gracious. Overall the food was fantastic. Our meal--from apps to dessert--was served in a timely fashion without us ever feeling rushed from course-to-course, which sometimes happens on holidays when they've scheduled multiple seatings throughout the day. Each of our dishes were served spot on with regard to a few specific asks by members of our party, and piping hot. Our main courses and desserts stole the show by far--delicious. The Chicken Giambota, Chicken Scarpariello, and stuff double-cut veal chop were AMAZING. My one knock, albeit small, is that their appetizers were mediocre by comparison to the rest of the dishes--your typical red sauce Italian-American fare, but so-so quality to the rest. The fried calamari and hot antipasto were both underwhelming, and the mussels were bland. For an area over-saturated with Italian restaurants, delis, and pizzerias, Primavera is definitely a standout from the stale masses. read more

We went out to Primavera on a saturday night with some friends who used to live down the street. What a beautiful looking restaurant. We did not make a reservation so we seated at the bar and waited for a table for 4. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance inside and out. The menu was impressive and there were many specials they had that night, a bit on the pricey side but well worth it. Cooking dessert in front of the tables, i had not seen since I was a child eating dinner out with my family is Italian restaurants in manhattan. A little dated but people seem to enjoy it. I ordered the rack of lamb special, my husband had the chilean Sea bass. Both were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back with my parents. I glanced at the wine list which was full of an abundance of different types of very good wines. My father is a wine expert and a bit of a collector, so next time they come up for a visit, we will be suggesting Primavera. I highly recommend to anyone. read more

That's when you know you are at Vinnies of Carroll Gardens - Brooklyn. Primavera? Meh at most. Butane gas flavored filet mignon, factory level penne ala vodka, a forced valet parking lot option. Nice idea but definitely not in the right neighborhood. This restaurant appears to have plateaued as the precious restaurants that also capitalized and closed in the same location. If there is any areas of improvement to immediately identify I would promote events such as wine and music, discovery of Hudson Valley Wine night, painting and vino. Anything that would warmly welcome in new promoters. Give this business sone breath of life to evolve and stand out among every other restaurant in the area. SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE!! My wife had to stand up and wave to get a rserver to come to our table. FYI only 2 other tables had diners when we were waiting for service. Then at the end of the meal when I am looking over the bill they start stripping the table to set it up for the next guest despite the fact that they hd at least 15 empty tables!!! Hubby and I ate here about 1 1/2 years ago, shortly after we moved into this area. We weren't impressed then but after hearing some friends talk about the restaurant recently, we decided to give it another try. Again, not impressed. Appetizer of Mozzarella en carozza was nothing more than a grilled cheese sandwich with a side of sauce. The only flavor my main entree of the Gamberi Scampi had was the extra lemon I asked for. The risotta it came with was absolutely tasteless. I honestly thought there was something wrong with my taste buds and asked hubby to sample. Hubby's entree of the rack of lamb was better but the fried potatoes both dishes came with were just that...chunks of potatoes deep fried with no seasoning whatsoever. This place was awful. We waited 45 minutes for the waiter to come outside (he was inside at the bar watching television). He only came out after my husband went inside to look. This should have been a warning aide. We ordered 2 drinks, 2 entrees, and an appetizer. When I got my wine, I took one sip and could tell the wine was old. It tasted like vinegar. Then, I go to take another sip and look in my glass to fine the flies pictured. One of the bus boys took the wine back and said he would speak to the manager. No one came out. Finally, our food came out. The pasta was awful. It was so overcooked that it was a big lump of spaghetti. While eating, we asked if that manager was coming out. We were told by 2 people that he wasn't here and the third said he would get him for us. The manager was so rude. I guess rolling up in his white Mercedes for the evening was enough work for him. He was rude and tried to say that the flies happened because we were outside. He offered no help. We still paid $66 even though we sent everything back. This place was awful. Met a friend for pre-theater dinner. She highly recommended it from past experience. Tonight, not so much! The lobster bisque tasted off and had somewhat of a skin on the top. It was taken back with no problem and replaced with fabulous oysters. My entree was supposed to be mussels in white wine with feta (I ordered it because it seemed different with the feta). What I got was a plate of overcooked, over salted mussels with no feta and big chunks of garlic in almost no broth. The waiter said he would send the manager over but instead came over with a menu to prove that it did not say feta. He also very condescendingly called me sweetheart. I could be his grandma. Dined at Primavera on Saturday evening, Feb. 12 for an anniversary celebration. Although a reservation was made requesting an end table, our party of four was seated in the center of the dining room with virtually no air to breathe since the area was packed with fellow diners. Young waitress took our orders within a few minutes, yet we had to wait over an hour to be served. A $49 steak ordered well done finally arrived that was raw in the middle. My flounder was prepared beautifully but for $31, the plate should have come with something more than six tiny pieces of soggy vegetables. My colleague's shrimp was palatable, but his wife's clam and pasta dish arrived 10 minutes later with the apology: "The pasta is being cooked!" Desert was nothing special either. Primavera is located in a beautiful setting but the waitstaff could use some training when it comes to greeting customers, serving the public and even saying 'thank you!' We have no intention of returning anytime soon. read more

Dined here for the first time last month. I was a little taken aback by the mandatory valet parking, but the valet was such a sweet guy that his demeanor quickly calmed my initial shock. Our server was Joe. He was a very nice man, but he came by the table way too often...except at the end, when we really needed him. Then we had to work on catching his attention for almost 10 minutes. Interestingly, we realized towards the end that our water was never offered to be refilled during any of those visits. The food was okay. I had checked out the menu online before our visit, so I already knew what I wanted. Apparently the online menu prices are outdated because everything we ordered was a few dollars more than what was quoted online (drinks & food). I ordered the sea scallops & to my surprise, it arrived in almost a kind of brown gravy. I didn't think that's what "champagne sauce" meant...? I was hungry so I decided to give it a try anyway. The gravy definitely detracted from the taste of the scallops, but It wasn't horrible. I wasn't able to finish my plate so I had the leftovers packed up to go and I forgot the bag at the restaurant. I called maybe 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant to see if I could go back to retrieve the bag & was told it had already been thrown away!!!!!!!! All in all, the place was beautiful but my experience was not. I don't think I'll be returning. read more

Was up here to meet an insider entertainment legend. The legend picked us up at the train station. This legend was born during the Hoover administration, probably prior the the 60mph speed limit or so. Not that he looked at the speed limit signs as we were driving around looking speedily for another restaurant yet found this wonderful spot. So, parked right out and entering this place I was worried. It was empty for lunch. No matter, they sat us on the porch and we had such a wonderful meal. First came the small complimentary salumi plate with some amazing bread. Then the fried calamari that was terrific. I had amazing Dover sole and my friend the shrimp parm and the legend a branzino. All just great. This with some white wine and conversations and stories about a performance in front of King Hussein, LBJ to taking trains through the USSR during the cold war. Then some espresso, biscotti and gelato. It cannot get better then that and on a beautiful day in upstate NY. This is a place for great food, great times but bring your own legend. read more

Met a friend for lunch here today. He was told that a great steak was on the special for the day... filet mignon. He ordered it, it came out... two thin slices with gravy over it. My friend asked that he have this dish without gravy, they apparently brought it back to the kitchen and ran it underwater and brought it back out, it was barely room temperature and had no taste. I tried a bite and he tried a bite. We brought it to the attention of the server who had the manager come out to review our comments. The end result was a charge of $47 for two bites of cold thin meat that was returned to the kitchen, no discount or comp of anything. I'll never go there again! read more

I went here with a lady friend of mine on Valentine's day a few years back (before Yelp was on my radar). The food was pretty good, but was very much overpriced. What made me NEVER want to go back to this restaurant was the way we were treated. We were the only diners there under the age of 40, and were treated like 19th class citizens because of it. Despite the fact that we were seated before at least four other parties of 2, we were served last at every possible moment; Drinks, appetizers, main course, dessert, and even to finally get the check. On multiple occasions, multiple servers ignored us, and finally I had to flag down bus boys to get our meal moving along. Three of the other couples were finished with all courses before we even received our main course. When our horrible experience was finally "over" and we were grabbing our coats from the coat room, the most shocking part of my visit occurred. When the maitre' d asked us how our meal went, I expressed all that I just laid out to you. He had the nerve to say that we must have been mistaken because their wait staff would never do such a thing. REALLY? That's how you treat your guests? I refuse to ever step foot into this restaurant again and any time I have the chance to discourage someone from giving them business I do so. Beautiful ambiance and wonderful service but we were disappointed with the food. I judge an Italian restaurant on two things: penne ala vodka and eggplant parm. Unfortunately neither did anything for my taste buds. And, I swear, I didn't fill up on the bread! Something has to be noted about the service--now that deserves 5 stars. A lovely place with available dining in or out. Food was delicious but pricey. I understand the pandemic they must've needed to raise their prices. The main problem was the service. It was almost laughable how many times different staff all seeming to have a different job came to the table. Orders mixed up. One of the drinks that was ordered and never delivered when inquired about, another staff member said we can't make that But they never came back to tell us and offer or offer something else. Long time when no one came to our table. Finally the maître d' came over to take our order. We waited over an hour for the entrees and no one came over to apologize or explain. My pan seared scallops with crabmeat risotto and asparagus were mush. Tiny pieces of asparagus were mixed in the risotto. When I confronted the manager/owner he said they were sautéed. The menu clearly said grilled. The fact that he argued with me and refused to do anything for a table of six spending $600 and I sent back my entree was unbelievable. We showed up 30 minutes before opening right off the highway and we're welcomed in and served like if was dinner time on Saturday night. The food was as delicious and freshly homemade tasting as my grandmother used to make on holidays, and the house it operates in it just as warm and pleasent. Frequent Primavera every New Years day with my entire family. While I realize a private party of over 20 people will receive more attention from the wait staff, I have been extremely impressed with the service, not only from the attentiveness of the staff, but also from their knowledge of the menu. While the menu items are always good, I always try to sample their specials. From the Osso Bucco to the Branzino, everything I have tried there has been wonderful. I do understand that I have only eaten there under certain circumstances (large parties, New Years day) so I don't know how the restaurant runs on a day to day basis, but I have been very impressed with everything Primavera has offered up to me. read more

Have been going to Primavera for years for birthday dinners and special occasions and would typically give this place 5 stars but based on Valentine's day dinner alone - this place should get 0 stars. Everything on that night was SO bad that it completely negates every other good experience I've had there. I had been there before for Valentine's day in 2011 and it was a wonderful experience. But by 2013 everything had changed. I noticed something was off when I heard the noise coming from the dining room. We were guided like cattle into the dining room - which was way overcrowded. It was like cruise ship style dining. Tables were situated less than a foot apart and you could hear peoples conversations effortlessly. Next, it was a prixe fixed menu. 2011 there was not. Ok fine, I get the chef can get overwhelmed with having such a large group come in so I didnt mind and the selections seemed great. Key word seemed. Our salads came out before the appetizer. Then, a member of the kitchen brought our entrees out while we were still eating our appetizers. Only to be put back under the heating lamp it came from for the next 20 minutes. We got the stuff red snapper, it was gross by the time we got it. The quality was of that from a 2 star restaurant, maybe. To top it off, our waiter was horrible. We had to ask for water and bread 10 minutes after we sat. He didn't come check on us at all to see how the food was because he was too busy on his phone in the corner. Not planning on going back.
