My boyfriend and I always sit at the bar for dinner. We return for the atmosphere. Do you want to step back in time? A throwback to the yesteryear of Jazz. Ensconced in maroon chairs upon dark wood floors, a black ceiling, filmy cream colored sheer curtains, while jazz trickles through the space and the patrons are shrouded in just enough darkness and candles to relax even the weariest of travelers, then this is the place. The clients are many and the regulars aplenty. It's like watching a play unfold on any given night. That is why I have returned. The service is great to terrible, the furniture has stains, and the bar seat I sat in one night had a nail pushing up into my back end, I let the owner know on the down-low so he could remove it, the food is good, never great, and the prime rib, which was purchased twice, once was very good and the second, absolutely tough and unpalatable. I would have continued to enjoy this restaurant for all that is good even with its shortcomings, until last night. We took my 79-year-old mother, my boyfriend's 90-year-old mother, and my sister there, for what should have been a lovely Thanksgiving. I made reservations for a party of 4 on November 2nd. On November 24th at 505pm I called Prime 82 and asked if it were possible to change our 4 person reservation to 5? The girl looked up my last name, spelled it, and confirmed it was at 6 pm for 4. She said it was not a problem and changed it to 5 people. My mom and sister arrived at 550pm and they couldn't find the reservation. My poor sister was a bit panicked however they were able to "accommodate us". The waiter came to the table before the rest of the party arrived and said there might be no turkey dinners left. Imagine that? (There ended up being turkey still available) My boyfriend, myself and his mother arrived at 6 pm. Our waiter was very pleasant, took our drink orders while we all looked over the menu. We ordered a french onion soup appetizer, 3 turkey dinners, 1 jumbo stuffed shrimp, and 1 rigatoni vodka. The onion soup was very good. When dinner arrived, the three turkey dinners came out first. We had to wait a few moments and then they brought out the other two dishes. The three turkey dinners were lukewarm, the inside stuffing which should be hottest at the center was cold, as were the sweet potatoes. My shrimp was lukewarm and my sister's pasta was barely lukewarm. No one came back to check on us. Mind you the restaurant was not even remotely buzzing, we were surrounded by empty tables, everyone was spread out and it seemed like the rush had been much earlier in the day. We were all very disappointed and quite hungry as we had saved our appetites for the occasion. When no one came back to check on us after a very fair amount of time, I walked to where the owner was chatting against the bar. I politely and quietly told him what had happened while reinforcing that our waiter was very kind. He mumbled and said something like that shouldn't happen. I told him he might want to find out why our food obviously sat in the back. I went back to our table and the waiter who had made a beeline for our table when he saw me talking to the manager, kept apologizing and said our food was brought right out to us, which I kindly stated that the food runners could not have brought it straight out, as the temperature was far too cold on all five plates. We told him we weren't upset with him but it was an upsetting situation. He went to talk to the owner. ****The owner never came to our table and apologized or tried to see what could make it right. Our waiter came back and said the owner would only authorize a ten percent discount. We finished our wines, beer, and ice teas and packed up one meal for the 90-year-old mom who refused to waste the food. The rest of us sent half-eaten plates to the trash. We were still hungry and frustrated. My boyfriend paid $156 plus gave the waiter a $30 tip. The discount was a mere $16, not even the price of one meal. As we exited, the 90-year-old who walks assisted with a cane was moving slowly and our waiter suggested we use the side entrance with only a few steps down. We agreed. We passed by the back of the bar where the owner still stood nonchalantly, he watched us all exit through a curtained doorway that had a few steps down. I tripped but caught my balance, my foot was on one of the too-long drapes. The rod came flying down and landed on the neck and shoulders of my sister! She was in shock. The bartender and our waiter were there and asked if she was okay. She didn't even answer because she was standing there with the rod still on her as they took it off. The owner did not intervene. Then the waiter said, yeah that happened to me earlier today. What??? You sent a 90-year-old and a 79-year-old through an area where the rod had already fallen?? It was like a shower curtain rod. Happy customers = Past tense. Epic fail in customer service by an owner. read more

The waitress seemed annoyed the entire time. Sons burger was bland. The New York strip steak was less than impressive and also cooked wrong twice but I wasnt waiting for a third time. Nor were the sides flavorful. The wife's salmon tasted great but was drastically overpriced for such a cheap piece of salmon. Next time I'll just go to Long Horn Steakhouse. It was not the valentines day dinner we expected!!! We celebrated our anniversary here last night to stay close to home. We hadn't been here for a few years after some.poor experiences with service. So glad we gave them another chance! It was starting to get busy when we arrived but we were promptly seated and brought our drinks. The specials all sounded amazing, but I had seafood, shrimp especially, on my mind.. so we started with calamari which was very lightly coated and tossed with just the right amount of banana peppers. Perfect for me. I hate heavy crispy breading so that you don't taste the calamari. Tonight's was nicely done and arrived quickly! Just about the time we finished devouring our warm dinner rolls with butter melting all over them... We both ordered baked stuffed shrimp. I wanted to see if they would be overdone or nice and juicy. Definitely juicy and flavorful still. The seafood stuffing was nice although nothing special. The drawn butter on the side rather than shrimp swimming in a pool.of butter was a nice touch. I opted for the risotto of the night My husband the baked potato. Baked potato was quite generous and the risotto was nicely complemented with spinach and cheese. Asparagus.was great and not woody... a feat in the fall! Although we were full, we left just enough room to split tiramisu. A generous portion that was very tasty. We watched some delicious looking steaks be delivered to tables near us: thick and looked yum! And the mixed seafood dish also looked quite appealing. My husband and I ordered the Delmonico steaks , mine medium rare his medium. My steak was medium, his was well , almost half of his was fat and gristle, my was a little less but not quite half . The steaks were supposed to be 16oz for 38.00 each . We sent it back for the chef to see . When are waitress came back with our check I asked did you show the chef and she said yes and she said the owner buys the meat and the chef has to prepare what there is . We paid our check and left her 20.00 . We will not be going back , very sad because it looked like a very nice restaurant, and no salad unless we want to pay a extra 3.00 dollars. read more

In a peculiar location and much bigger inside than it appears from out, this establishment has a fun vibe inside. The night I went, I was solo and the place was packed. I sat at the bar and had a glass of wine while I got takeout. The hostess greeted me and was very friendly. The manager came up and showed me to my seat at the bar. The bartenders were all gregarious and quick. I ordered chicken Marsala and opted for double veggies instead of a vegetable with a potato. Besides the fact that when you walk in it feels like you traveled back to 1986 , we had a great time. Highly recommend the seafood bruschetta. The bartender, who was great but I didn't get her name, assured us it was delicious and it was. Also had the caprese salad which was a good size portion with delicious fresh mozzarella. Great value with a bottle of Pinot Noir that was excellent and only like $30. (Another recommendation from bartender) Finished off with the tiramisu which was good but the least favorite of the 3. My husband and I are very picky eaters. I ordered the chicken and broccoli Alfredo and he ordered the porterhouse steak. When I tell you everything was cooked to perfection it was absolutely amazing. It is a bit pricey but it is delicious. I did not get a kids menu for my daughter but she usually eats off of us but it would be nice to have. The bread was a bit hard but I just love really soft buttery bread. Nice white cloths on the table, candle lit room, nice quiet bar. I definitely recommend. read more

We waited 45 minutes for an appetizer. It was burnt. I complained and the waitress did nothing. Waitress never came to refill drinks. I had to ask her. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes and still no main dish. We got up and paid for our sodas and they still made me pay for the burnt appetizer. We rented a house in Norwich for my bachelorette weekend and came here one night for dinner. We didn't have very high expectations; this is kind of a sleepy town and there aren't many restaurants around. We were pleasantly surprised and absolutely loved our meals here! There were 5 of us and everyone was thrilled. A few of us got steaks and they were all cooked to perfection. We were treated to dinner by friend to celebrate my birthday. We were a party of 4. Our food was very good, however, service was below par. Our waitress offered refills only once. The other times we had to ask. We had to ask for bread 3 times before we got it. The server bringing our food didn't speak English so we didn't know what he was bringing out. We had to take a guess. We waited over 5 minutes for stake knives after asking 3 times from 2 different servers. It was obvious we needed steak knives since we ordered steak and weren't touching our food. Ours server was not around. There was another server that constantly sat at a table where she had friends dining. After we spoke to the manager about the poor service and her visiting with friends, she went back to visit with them and made fun of us. Manager said he would speak to his servers. We didn't expect him to do it while we were still there. She confronted us with excuses why she served us the way she did. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I've got to say this one missed the mark Ordered the Prime garlic bread, Fish & chips and the Sirloin- well, besides the price hike (merchant website vs. in restaurant) I was thoroughly disappointed by the flavor. Both the fish/chips and the Sirloin were seriously lacking flavor, a little salt & pepper could've made a world of difference. The garlic bread was decent & my drink was solid. What really sealed the deal was the flying insects (had to cover food w napkin while waiting on the staff to check back in) and the staff's choice to seat a single occupant directly next to our table despite only having one other occupied table in the dining room. In a near empty dining area it made no sense to have other patrons seated within arms distance. Special birthday dinner spoiled by the under seasoned steak and poor customer service (lack of consideration, safety). Highly disappointed. read more

The other to in our party got fresh drinks so I'm not sure what she misunderstood. Calamari was great. Oysters Rockefeller were delicious as well. The ribeye special was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bread and oil mixture served with the bread in the beginning was tasty, however lacked some pizazz, aka salt. ... A few months ago I went in for a get together after a funeral. The food was good, the atmosphere was comfortable. Driving home late tonight I decided to stop in for a quick appetizer and a drink. GHEESH was I disappointed. I ordered a beer to go with a cup of clam chowder... The beer came first, the chowder arrived very shortly after and I was off to a good start. BUT I had no napkin :-( The bartender politely dropped off the meal and disappeared. Try eating chowder with out a napkin.... It's not pretty. What's WORSE.... the chowder was at best room temperature. Based on my expectations it seemed almost as cold as a blustery New England winter day and it looked and tasted what was left at the end of a 2 day old pot. Thick, "bumply" and pasty. We were seated promptly (3) and given the bread and butter..awesome. I ordered the seafood bruschetta and the New York sirloin....and OMG. Both of these dishes rocked!! This restaurant where I spent $130+ for my food just today forgot to put the horseradish sauce for both my Delmonico prime steak after waiting an hour to receive it and if you like prime rib the way I do than the horseradish is important. I tracked my delivery driver and it was only a 15 minute drive so he did great which brings me to call the restaurant and speak to the manager. When I had called, the owner of the restaurant picked up and I explained the situation and how upset I was. I asked if he can help me out somehow-- maybe a gift certificate or a free appetizer (which I also never do) and he proceeded to tell me that there was nothing he would do. He also told me to go to the restaurant and pick up the horseradish sauce myself and at this point I was livid. The disrespectful manor and lack of customer service to someone who spends a lot of money at this restaurant was absolutely disgusting and I will never be dining with Prime 82 again. My wife and I love the menu at this restaurant. The food is excellent. Our only issue is for at least the past year dining here we order a bottle of wine off the wine list and when we receive our check the price listed on check is $8.00 more than price listed on wine list. We always have to mention this to bartender and get a corrected check. It's not the money for us it just seems deceptive. We were told the button of cash resister has higher price which doesn't match printed wine list. It seems management doesn't want to print new wine lists with undated prices or correct price in register. In any case this should never happen!! read more

Wow, this place is awesome, I thought the decore was subtle but that was part of it's charm. The service was definitely on point, I only ordered a water with lemon but it seemed like as soon as I finished she was right there to fill my glass. As for my burger, I asked for it medium rare, and that's what it was a warm pink center. I also got sweet potato fries, and those were nice and crispy but not so hard that you break a tooth. Overall we really liked this place... Great interior, nice ambience, awesome music... Timeless jazz, the wait staff was professional and friendly and the food was amazing. However, the television screen in the dining room was tuned to Fox News, and Fox nation with Tucker Carlson came on halfway through the meal. Divisive and biased commentary intended to bring more fear and anger in people's lives is not needed during these times, especially in a rare evening out. Avoid this spot unless you want COVID. Recently went there for takeout. While the servers and bartenders were wearing masks, no customers at the bar or tables were. I would understand removing masks to eat, but this is disrespectful to the servers, the masks are there to prevent the spread of Covid. I was at Prime on 6/8/17 for dinner. I ordered the filet mignon with the sea scallops. The scallops were bad. Scallops should not smell or taste like rotting fish and these scallops did. The waitress took them away and offered me shrimp. I declined as I had a bad taste in my mouth from the rotten scallops. I am very surprised the chef could not smell that before he cooked them. The filet was cooked the way I asked, but hardly worth the 30.00 for the steak. When I put a pat of butter on my mashed potatoes, the butter did not even melt a little bit as the potatoes were cold. I would not recommend this restaurant. It used to be good, but something has changed and I will not go back. read more
