Prince Umbertos in Franklin Square... Tucked in a busy shopping center next to eastern meat farms I've eaten here probably about 5 million times and they are probably responsible for a few of my overweight pounds. Haha. They have the BEST regular round slice in Nassau county. No reason to get a slice with macaroni and cheese or taco guts at this place, you know why? They make the best PIZZA! I grew up around the corner and have had everything on the menu. Always familiar faces in this fine establishment. The dining room has been recently renovated and is a nice little area to share a meal with a small group or decent size party. Their vodka Square slice is pretty good as well! I know it may not seem like it given my last few Yelp reviews, but I honestly don't take pleasure in writing a bad review because reviews can make or break a business. But I ordered takeout from this restaurant and it was probably the worst Italian food I've ever had. The chicken parm was burnt, rubbery and full of gristle....like it was fake chicken. The "parm" tasted like Kraft cheese slices. The sauce tasted store bought. And my husband said his meatball parm hero was so bad that he tossed out the meatball and just ate the bread, cheese and sauce. Working in the immediate area I have started frequenting this establishment within the last few weeks. As per many reviews the first slice I tried was the chicken penne vodka slice. Although others rave about it, I didn't think it was anything too spectacular. The slice tasted mushy. Although the flavors were good, I couldn't get over the soggy texture of the overall slice. The regular plain slice was just that, plain. The sauce was bland and desperately needed seasoning. Luckily, this spot does have hot sauce so with a few dashes of hot sauce the plain slices are doable. The pepperoni pin wheels are really good. They're soft but not too soft. The pepperoni has a pit of spice to it, and it's a fair portion for $1.75. The Caesar salad is essentially romain lettuce, 3 croutons, and a slice of Parmesan cheese. They tell you to grab the dressing from the fridge. All and all, it's a decent place to stop for food if you're in the immediate area, but compared to pizza in Brooklyn and queens, it just doesn't stack up. read more

I'm still a fan. Although I will fall short of a four star rating as they just don't give a showstopping effort. I stopped in here last week one night (its literally around the corner from where I live) on Friday night at 630. I ordered chicken parm and a salad to stay. There were 25 people crammed in there picking up food, 40 orders waiting to be picked up, yet I still got a perfect chicken cutlet parm in just under 15 minutes. It was delicious, filling, and I was happy as I always am. I still refrain from buying any of their single serve items when you walk in, for some reason they don't hold well, or maybe they just don't get much walk-in business. Who knows, who cares, just order to pick up whole pies and whatever else you want and you won't be disappointed. The Sicilian, Vodka, Grandpa, and Grandma Pies are my favorites! I wouldn't recommend thinking of this place as a sit down destination, it is strictly a take out place for me, my stopping in was just a fluke. As always though, to each their own. read more

Not good. Which i'm shocked they get the service they do, I suppose people either don't have taste buds or go out of habit. My margarita pizza had no flavor and the sauce definitely tasted store bought (if not, step up your flavors)! My white slice had a very strange chemical smell (probably from the oven) and I did not eat it. I wasted my 30 minute lunch and my money coming here. If you don't have a taste for seasoning and like bland food which has been clearly sitting then this is the place to go. read more

Prince Umberto is a small Italian restaurant in Valley Stream. I went recently with a larger group (majority were much older than me) and despite the restaurant expecting us, the food and service left a lot to be desired. While nothing was horrible, the place is merely "okay" at best. You won't leave going "wow, that food was great." You'll leave going "today, I ate food." Then you'll move on with your life...quickly. I think the rating is fairly accurate. if i could, I would give 3 1/2 stars in my rating as they tend over more than under ok. The best thing about this place is the gluten free menu. They make most entrees gluten free including the parmigiana dishes. This is hard to find at any other restaurant and my celiac wife loves all the choices. she liked the eggplant parm she ordered last week. I thought the pizza was good, but the slices were not that big and I felt they could give more. I love the rice balls and these are very inexpensive, so you can indulge on a bunch of them without breaking the bank. Best cheap spot in the immediate vicinity to eat. I worked closeby x5 years and this would be where I would go if I forgot lunch! The pizza is standard here. I do like the buffalo chicken slices, very hearty for the price. Garlic knots are hella cheap. Be sure to ask for marinara sauce on the side! I never venture in the restaurant portion.... But you can still order entree items in the pizza shop and dine in. I like their penne ala vodka. It's a big portion! I had their tortellini in soup once and I was rather plain. All the staff, and I mean all of them, are extremely nice. It's a family owned restaurant and they treat you as such! It's not super cheap here but standard pricing for a full belly. Don't go here late on a Sunday. I ate it because I was hungry. I ordered something basic pepperoni slice & pinwheel. The pizza is thin and flops as soon as you pick it up. The pin wheel was dry as dirt and has way too much bread for the 5 slices of pepperoni in it. This place had decent reviews and it's surprising they win local awards. It could be that they do actually make good stuff and just don't put in the effort every day of the week. I tried the pizza here for the first time after I happened to be in the area and someone said they are highly recommended. I got regular slices,a grandma slice and a slice with pepperoni and sausage and each one of them was very over cooked,burnt and dry. It looked like the pizza was sitting there for hours and was just heated up. My 8 year old refused to eat it saying it looked disgusting. Pizza is okay :/ Their minestrone soup is exceptionally savory and the alfredo sauce tortellini was delicious and had melted cheese that really set it apart. I first came across this place because one of my brothers worked around there. He has always mentioned how great their food is here, so one day when I picked him up from work we came to eat here. My brother has introduced me to one of the best places in New York! Absolutely one of the best pizza spots I have ever been to. I'm from Queens and I would gladly drive 20-25 minutes to come here just for some good pizza and pasta! The staff is incredibly friendly. This place definitely is what an Italian Pizzeria should be. Their pizza slices are yummy! Let me not get started on their pasta! As a matter of fact, let me emphasize how great their spaghetti with tomato sauce is! Their tomato sauce totally makes their pastas! Super delicious and so good! We even brought some pasta sauces which they sell in the front! So worth it! The few times I've actually eaten here, we ordered our spaghettis and they would tell us to sit down and they will bring the pasta to you. They treat you like a house guest, and the woman (who I assume is the person who created their signature sauces) came out and brought us our plates. Such a sweet lady! A disappointment. We went here last week because they offered a Groupon, and the reviews were generally quite favorable. I had only known this place as a pizza parlor, and found the pizza to be among the better in the area. The restaurant itself was a pleasant surprise, in terms of the ambiance. Who knew that this nice room lurked behind the pizza parlor. The appetizers and soups were good, nothing to complain about. I ordered one of the specials, listed as pork osso buco off the bone, over fettuccine. It was, to say the least, a huge disappointment. I had expected a nice piece of pork accompanied by a a bed of fettuccince. What I got was shreds of pork meat mixed into fettuccine in a tomato cream sauce. I felt like I was eating nothing more than a piece of bracciole mixed into the pasta, rather than osso buco. The service was adequate. The waitress seemed more pre-occupied with trying out different drinks (non-alcoholic type) at the bar, than checking on whether the customers were doing ok. However, I must compliment the young man with the earring working as a busboy. He seemed to be doing everything in the dining room, and was very helpful. I'll stick with the pizza. read more

Every time I come home from school my family gets a nice margarita pie. The vodka slices are a real treat, the rice balls are delicious, and people there are very friendly and always remember me.
