Overall good service (especially from the owner, Larry. Any problems, talk to him - he'll make it right). Yes, they are a bit pricy. But they take care of you. They'll even drive you to work while they're working on your car, and pick you up when it's ready. They don't look for "extra work" to perform, just make recommendations. Honest shop. On one occasion they replaced my radiator, and they replaced it pronto, no problem, no extra charge. Quality shop - if you can afford them, they're worth every penny. I took my car into Pro 1 Automotive at the referral of my Father in Law. The first mechanic said I needed a new transmission but things were not adding up of what he was telling me. I know I am not an expert on cars but I do know when I am getting swindle, I do some minor repairs on my own. Pro 1 Automotive did an excellent job. They took the time to listen to all the issues were brought to them and they agreed that the first mechanic story didn't add up since we were having problems but the check engine light was not on. After the testing they did they found out the alternator was the source to all the problems. Going with them saved alot of hassle and $3000. I will be going with them from now on. Traveling from WA to Yosemite hauling a 25-foot travel trailer and had an issue with the car. Although this shop was backed up 1-2 weeks they got our car on the rack within 30 minutes to diagnose the problem. Owner of the shop made calls around town until he found a muffler shop that could get us in right away. And only changed us for 30-minutes labor instead of the hour minimum. THANKS! My now wife used Pro-1 Automotive for a car we shared before marriage, and had had a water pump fixed with an "after market" (I believe used) part. Now Pro-1 Automotive is heavily advertising on a radio station I listen to, and I cringe every time I hear their ads, due to what they did to me. Basically, I think this used part, although supposedly warrantied, would never be paid for if it broke. I'm pretty sure that if a water pump fails, the engine will overheat. Yet the engine overheated, I took it to my wife's shop, and they charged me for a new water pump (I believe the overheating was in Fall 2012). When I researched my wife's record, I found out about the water pump repair, and called to ask for compensation. However, the manager refused, saying the engine could have overheated and broke the water pump instead of the other way around. I'm only OK with car problems, but am expert at logic, and what he is saying is that they'll never honor a warranty claim on that after-market part, because if it breaks down and causes the engine to overheat, they won't consider it the fault of the part just in case the engine could have overheated for some other reason, causing the water pump to be broken even if the water pump being broken was the only other problem with the car. In any case, I'm pretty sure that we got cheated by Pro-1. If Ricky S wants to research this, he can make a note. I'll check it in a few weeks and several weeks and call the shop with identity information, different from what they names are now. read more

We took our pickup in for an oil leak. We were told we needed Ball joints, steering stablizer and shocks. The estimated amount to repair was $1800+. I always use Shepards Brake & Alignment for such work so we took it there. They examined the truck and told me there was nothing in need of repair. Get a second opinion. read more

When I came in for a smog check, the kind gentlemen took my keys and I told him I was there for a diesel smog and where I parked my truck. They way he walked fast outside, I assumed I was next in line. There were several people in the nice, clean waiting room. Lucky for me i read the comments that it takes longer for diesel, so when others came after me and left before me I wasn't upset. Kind staff, excellent service! My coworker highly recommended Pro 1 so I thought I would try it out. I took my '99 Corvette into Champion Chevrolet for some transmission work and when I got it back the acutuater for the heater no longer worked. They gave me a quote for $3,000 for replacing who knows what for something that worked fine before I brought it in. I took it to Pro 1 and the problem was fixed for under $100. I've never been impressed with an auto shop before, but Pro 1 managed to do that. I recenlty made an appointment for repairs and unlike other auto shops that keep your car hostage for days or weeks, they looked at my vehicle the same day. Parts were overnighted so I didn't have to wait a week, and they called me as soon as the repairs were done so I had more time to bribe a coworker to give me a ride to the shop. Larry even did a follow up call to see if everything was done to my liking. I definitely will continue to patronize Pro 1...the only auto repair shop in Reno that won't make you leave feeling cheated and/or angry! read more

O.k., like many folks, I dont trust repair shops, I feel they're out to squeeze the maximum dollar out of everyone who walks through the door, and admittedly, prior to a chance visit to pro 1 i would have never gone into such a place, but i had some problem ATV tires that, 1st an actual tire shop couldn't mount after "trying" for 3+ hours (they sold me the tires) and 2nd, an ATV specialty shop was reluctant to attempt, they sent me across the street to pro one, and after a couple of pretty ingenious attempts and a mechanic who was unwilling to just give up, got them on the wheel and inflated. , so it only took about 20 minutes, but at one point 3 guys were working on them and when i went to the counter to settle up my bill there was NO CHARGE, i mean free, period. can you believe that? i cant thank them enough and feel that i know at least one shop in town isn't out for maximum dollar over simple customer service, They're great! read more

My Fiance had her car towed to Pro 1 automotive because it would not start. They completely took advantage of her lack of automotive knowledge. They ended up going way over there estimate. They charged her for replacing the intake manifold gaskets and water pump without her consent. It looks like they put a used water pump on(although they over-charged for a new one)if it was changed at all. They broke several vacume hoses and either left them broken or plugged them with old bolts(probably left over from your car lol). They charged for flushing the cooling system but obviously never did. They mixed dex-cool with regular green antifreeze causing corrosion and making the coolant turn brown and thick. That has led to the heater core leaking. Now on the plus side, they did change the fuel pump relay that was the cause of the no-start it was towed in for in the first place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This place was a nightmare. My girlfriend had her timing belt and tensioner replaced. $700, a fair price. Soon after we got it back it began to shake and shimmy. Of course we brought it right back. Pro one told us that it needed a minor tuneup: $761. Right away I told my girlfriend that I would handle it from here and to decline the additional work. I took our car to another place and explained what had happened. Right away, they saw that the timing belt was 2 notches off and the tensioner was either defective or installed incorrectly. Timing belts can slip and tensioners can be defective, but why wouldn't they check the work they had done when we brought it back THE SECOND TIME?!? Especially when everything wrong with it was likely timing (coinciding with the work they had just done). If it wasn't for me thinking the second estimate was questionable, we would have payed an extra $700 for work that DID NOT NEED TO BE DONE. When I asked how they concluded the car needed a tuneup, they replied "we based that off the mileage." So I guess the way they do diagnostics is by looking at the odometer? Nice. They fixed their mistake that we had to catch them on and we got a check for the work done by the other shop, which we had to come back the next day to pick up. Classy. No "sorry," no "our bad," just a smile and a "have a nice day." I had previously written this review and Pro 1 or Yelp took it down. Now I feel like I should be reporting them to the Bureau of Autotive Repair because apparently it's too easy to sweep these complaints under the rug on Yelp. read more

A wheel bearing went out with extensive damage to my Dodge Ram van as I exited Burning Man in Oct 2015. AAA and the tow truck driver recommended Pro 1. Pro 1 was great. I would first like to start by saying that I never give bad reviews. I let the business fix the problem, and use the business again and again. Unfortunately, this has backfired on me. Let's just say, if I could give them negative stars, I would. 1 star is being way too generous. My history with Pro 1 goes back 2 years. I only went back because I felt that I should support my local business, and because my husband insisted that we keep coming back, after all, they always make things right. Except that they did not. I will spare the long stories of problems and share with you the first time I took my vehicle there, and the last time. This last time, I took my dodge diesel in for a cold start problem. As with all car repairs, a person usually has to take time off work, or arrange for transportation. No problem, got the logistics worked out and a few hundred dollars later and the next morning, I'm sitting in my driveway trying to start my truck. Back to the shop it goes. Can you imagine? They found something else wrong, so a few hundred dollars later, I find myself late for work yet again because I can't get my truck to start. I called to get my money back, after two years of returning my vehicle after every time they touched it (yep, every single time I took it in), I am tired of it. But they won't refund my money. They want me to give them the opportunity to fix the problem, which would be fine, except that I can not afford to be late for work again, or even miss any more time from work, and they don't open until 7:30, so giving me a ride to work to get me there by 7 is not an option. That's fine, but refund me the money for the work you didn't do. I want a refund because the problem is now worse then it was before I took the vehicle in, long story short, they made it worse, and now they want to make it even worse and probably charge me more money for it. If this was a one time incident, I wouldn't be writing this, but it's not. The first time I took the truck in for a break problem, told them the truck had trouble stopping on a down hill. They laughed at me and implied that a woman can't drive a truck. I told them to do a test drive, make sure they're on a hill. Sure enough the rotors needed replacement (I had just purchased the vehicle so didn't know about the problem). Several hundred dollars later, I thought I was on my way, well, that was until 4 months later, when the truck wouldn't stop again, so I took it back. Can you believe they asked my husband if I ride the breaks? They were in denial they did the job wrong. Two weeks later after replacing the entire breaking system, they finally found the problem, turned out to be their fault, and I didn't get charged. But that was the only time they didn't charge me, every other time I took it back, they charged me. So that's it in a nutshell. Don't go there. Don't support them, unless of course, you like to spend money, and have a broken vehicle. Then go for it. I for one, will never let them touch my truck again. read more

took my truck to pro one not once but twice for white smoke . the first time they said it was a erg valve cost $800 got it back and it still blew white smoke. 2 days later check engine light came back on, had it checked and the code said erg valve. Took it back and they said it was a fuel pressure sensor $1250 still blowing white smoke .when I picked it up they said it would cost $6000 to fix it right .All together it cost me $2000 and they did not fix a thing read more
