We had a very disappointing experience with this business. My son is in college at UNR and was having issues with a car he had just purchased. Pro1 completed the pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle. Between Pro1 being familiar with the vehicle and their excellent reviews, we decided to have our son take it back for diagnostic. My son was charged the diagnostic fee, but no diagnosis was ever made. He was gaffed off over and over about the intermittent check engine light and the symptoms he felt the car was experiencing. He was told to come back when the car was actively being symptomatic. Then when he did, he was told they were busy and to make an appointment. My son did this for 3 weeks. We finally took the car elsewhere. Shop #2 was able to tell us within hours that everything related back to a transmission issue. Just to be thorough we then brought the vehicle to Subaru who confirmed that everything was related to the failing transmission. Not sure what is more disappointing. One, that they gave this car a clean bill of health or two, they refused to provide a diagnosis when something went wrong. The service manager went as far as to tell me that the noises and symptoms were in my son's head. When I expressed my concern that my son was being treated like this because he was young, I was told I was incorrect and that "he would even help a woman". Every conversation has been patronizing and with total lack of respect. I asked Pro1 to refund my son's money due to the lack of providing the service he was charged for. They refused and the poor treatment just continued. I sent an email that was never replied to. I would like to give this shop the benefit of the doubt that this situation just went bad. However, I feel like people should also be cautioned. read more

Previously to coming to Pro-1 Automotive I had been taking my truck and previous cars to another shop. However, due to a bad experience I decided to look elsewhere to take my truck. This shop is close to my work so I figured I would bring my truck in to service an issue I was having with my front suspension. I spoke with Paul on the phone and met him at the shop. First off, extremely kind and that made me feel comfortable bringing my truck in. I was able to bring my truck in first thing in the morning and they gave me a ride to work! Only took a few minutes to hand my keys over and I really appreciated Paul listening to what issue I was having with the truck, especially since sometimes I have a hard time speaking/getting the words out. Paul called me later in the day to update me with what they found and was able to give me a quote (which didn't change when I paid). The experience of bringing in my truck in the morning, getting a ride to work, dealing with friendly staff, and having the issue fixed before I even got off work was a successful and good experience as a customer. I will most definitely make this my routine place to get automotive work done. read more

Yes they are a 5 star shop but be forewarned, they are busy! I always take that as a good sign, if they werent good no one would want to go to them. But because they are such a good shop they have a wait list on just looking at your car. Its worth the wait. So to the actual review. My wife and I both have diesel vehicles. We bounced around a few shops and never really found a place we felt confident in. We happened on Pro1 based on a suggestion/recommendation from a family member, and we couldnt be happier. They have taken care of my Excursion that had been sitting for about 10 months. It runs perfectly and is so reliable I have no issues taking my kids in it. My wifes F250 has had new fuel injectors and now almost the complete front end is being redone. Pro1 has also fixed issues another shop claimed to, and has had zero issues prioritizing repairs based on my budget (ie. Dont drive it until this is done, this is ok to drive for a bit but will need to be done, and keep an eye on this eventually it will need to be fixed). They also were willing to hold onto my wifes truck until we could afford the repairs. No pressure or making us feel bad, just allowing us to make payments and having it ready to roll when we finally paid off the balance and were ready to take it home. If you can handle the wait to get into them, you likely will not regret it. Its a shop that has integrity and takes care of their customers. I can not recommend them enough. read more

I took my car in for and oil change and my AC to get fixed. They had my car for 3 days and never personally gave me a diagnosis call; I had to call them to get updates, otherwise I wouldn't have heard from them at all. Even with the lack of communication, they told me my car would be ready for pickup on Friday at 4:30. I couldn't make this time so I called ahead to get payment taken care of over the phone and have them park my car in the lot, ready for pickup. We had two separate phone conversations that day discussing the fact that the car needed to be left outside for pickup. When I showed up to get my car that afternoon, my car was locked away for the entire weekend in their garage. Apparently they had made several mistakes in my oil change, causing my car to leak. This was explained to me Monday morning. This tells me that I dropped my car off Wednesday, and it was not worked on until late Friday afternoon. Well instead of staying late and fixing their mistakes, they charged my card anyways and didn't even bother to call. So Pro1 hung me out to dry with no car for the whole weekend, and no explanation as to why. Very frustrating! Monday morning rolled around and I was given no apologies and no efforts to make up for their terrible customer service I had received over the past 5/6 days they had my car. The entire pro1 automotive process was completely unprofessional, wildly inconvenient, and an unapologetically terrible experience. There are several other shops in the Reno area that I will visit before I ever come back to Pro1. read more

I bought new tires here last November. The price, quality, and service were all excellent! Unfortunately, one of my new tires blew yesterday. I took the car in hoping for a warranty repair. Turned out there was sidewall damage not covered under the warranty. Paul, the service manager, went over and above to replace my tire at NO CHARGE!!! I took my 1997 Dodge diesel truck to these guys to get it smogged. I had done some performance modifications to this truck, and was fully aware I had removed the factory EGR. Knowing this, I called them ahead of time to ensure I was not heading into a test I would surely fail without this part. I gave a gentleman who heads up their diesel smog department, Elvis, my VIN. He ensured me I DID need a catalytic converter, which my truck did indeed have fitted at the time of the test, but DID NOT need the EGR due to my truck's vintage. I was surprised when the emissions tester came back and told me I failed, and that I did in fact need an EGR. I explained my situation, and expected to at least not be charged since I had been told contrary information from one of their employees. I understand the responsibility and burden these certified emissions testers carry, and they risk losing their certifications if they let illegal trucks like mine slide. I do not blame them for going by the book, and failing my truck if it's out of compliance. I am extremely upset, however, they still insisted on taking my money, even after I was told by one of their own I did not need this piece of emissions equipment to pass. Unconscionable ethics - I will not be back. read more

We took my husband's truck in for a diesel smog and ended up with 2 repairs in order to pass the smog. Paul, Dustin and everyone that works there is incredible! They were so busy, but they fixed the truck!! They could have made us tow the truck and figure out how to get it fixed. The waiting room was clean, comfortable, we waitied for 5 hours! I still can't believe they actually fixed it while we were there. Five stars is not enough for Pro 1 Auto! They are the best!!! read more

They allowed me to leave my truck there overnight as I hate late afternoon traffic since retiring. And I really appreciated that. They did an oil change and diesel smog and topped off the def. They found an issue that I will take to the dealer as the vehicle is still under warranty. Even took a photo of the part in question for me to take to the dealer. Bought a used car from a private dealer. Went to pro 1 to get the vehicle smogged before I went to register. Dropped off vehicle and 2 hours later came back to pick it up. Was handed a failed smog due to visible smoke. I contested it explaining that it was 40° outside. The tech handed me my failed smog, a list of shops that could fix the problem ( the list included pro 1) and a paper explaining to me that I couldn't apply for any exemption at DMV because my vehicle had been noted as a "smoking vehicle". I took my vehicle literally 2 miles away to another smog station and passed smog. I'm commenting on this because I hope this will keep other way from this dishonest shop. My in-laws had been using pro 1 for a few years and always had one of their 2 vehicles in and out of the shop. When I suggested a different shop to them, the frequent mechanic visits stopped. read more

I regret my decision to patronize PRO1 automotive. The overabundant PRO1 radio commercials sound great, they are also totally hollow. I was lied to, set up to be overcharged and almost the victim of a PRO1 bait and switch. When questioned, the demenor of these people changes real quick from phony nice to confrontational and defensive. I took my business somewhere else and was treated well and paid significantly less than PRO1's overinflated prices. read more

People just love to complain about service businesses. Reading the reviews below, i am shocked to see 1 star reviews for this business. Let me correct that here. I have lived in reno for 41 years (all my life). My dad used to be in the auto parts business back in the day so i never had to worry about finding someone to work on my cars. When he got out of that business and we needed repairs he had me start taking my cars to Pro-1. They have been in business since i have been able to drive and they are still in business today over 20 years later. They dont rip people off, they charge for their work and stand behind it. They also go above and beyond to make sure the cars are safe and well maintained. Pro-1 have performed exploratory service, handled some major issues and also general maintenance for me many times over the years. I have taken them everything from very valuable classic cars (like my '62 cadillac coupe deville), to our modern daily drivers like our Escalade and other cars. They have ALWAYS fixed the cars correctly, taken care of the cars while they are there, explained what they were going to do, and returned the cars clean and void of any sign of service, and have charged me fairly for services performed. I am not a person to bitch about a couple bucks here or there so maybe my perspective is different when it comes to cost, but i feel like they have ALWAYS charged me fairly. The key takeaway here is that this is a non-franchise, locally run, shop owned by a man who has been in this community for over 20 years. His counter guys have too. I trust them with any of my vehicles (old or new), and I recommend them to anyone. read more

Had looked for awhile to find a place to take my GMC diesel instead of the untrustworthy GMC slrship in Reno (VERY BAD/NEVER GOING BACK/kinda place that when you think "i wonder if they actually did this or that, THEY DIDNT and DONT/I caught them on several things that were just checked off the list, no apology, no regard for customer service). Went to the GMC dealership in Carson and highly recommend that place but too far for me to drive for me. So, in Reno, I go looking for a good place and my wife actually finds Pro 1 on the internet. Oct. 9-Had my oil serviced (change, filter, etc.). They also installed an air filter for FREE I had bot online. Very pleased with the service. I got there early on a Sat and was 2-3rd in line but was still out in less than 30 minutes, start to finish. Very good customer service. Prices were less than dealership. I do not recommend this shop. I've been a mechanic for thirty years. I brought my vehicle here to activate my warranty and save a few hundred.my warranty did not cover the repairs.is no fault of pro one. But when I dropped the vehicle off I told them what needed to be changed.they still charged me a 130 dollar inspection fee. They had my vehicle a week and did not call me with any updates or anything.1200 hundred dollars later for what should of only been a few hours of labor. I left with a check engine light on and they didn't do one of the repairs I asked.returned my truck for the check engine light.chuck erased a mass air flow code and immediately said they were no where around the mass air flow when I know they had to remove that stuff to do one of the repairs. I did my own diagnostics and found they had knocked off an indicator. that I had to fish out from the bottom of the engine compartment. In my experienced opinion they lack reasonable customer service. whoever worked on my truck lacks skill, integrity. And the labor charges are twice as high as they should have been. read more

Back in October 2015, My Chevy Silverado diesel went into limp mode while towing my 5th wheel. I took it into Pro 1 and Chuck said they would get an estimate to get it working condition, The next day he called after finding the problem and said it would be a few more days as the part had to be ordered through a dealer after they checked every dealer for 300 miles. After the truck was repaired, I didn't have quite enough money so Chuck worked with me and got me out the door. We left Reno towing our 5th wheel over the Sierras and have not had 1 problem since. I am getting ready to now drive back to Pro 1 to get more service done. I recommend Pro 1 to anyone. Thanks Chuck! read more

26 Jun 2017 I arrived @0800 for my appointment to have my 92 Ford E250 Automatic Transmission Power Flushed. The odometer had 168,570 miles. Fred, the service advisor, took me out into the shop to physically show me the equipment that would be used to Power Flush my tranny & explained the procedure in terms I could understand. My van was ready for my by 0930, the odometer showing 9 more miles than when I took it in which told me someone had my van up on the rack going up & down through the gears for quite a while to insure a thorough flush. 6 July I returned to Reno after having driven a 1780 mile 5-day trip up into Idaho, over into Montana & back to Reno. The tranny shifted up or down through the gears as smooth as ever during the entire trip which took me up & down a lot of grades. From now on I'll take my vehicles to Pro 1 for any & all maintenance. I like that this is a locally owned, family operated business. read more

My fuel line broke when I was driving through Reno. I was disabled 6 hours from home. I looked up diesel mechanics, and Pro 1 was third down due to my location. I called the first two and they could not help me. I spoke to Paul at Pro 1, and he said, "bring it in, we will get you back on the road. I had it towed and it was too late to start the job. Paul said that they'd have it done by 1-2pm the next day as it would be a 4 hour job. The next morning at 11am, Paul called and said it was done. They must have started first thing in the morning. When I got there, the mechanic went over in detail what repairs were done. Everyone I talked to was very friendly, helpful and professional. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I had been going to the Dealer, but lost trust in them over a car problem. I had heard PRO-1 on the radio so I thought I would try them. I am a woman and I took my car in to have the oil changed and the tires rotated. I asked them to check the wind shield wiper motor as well. I decided not to fix the wiper motor as it was over $600 to fix it. They went ahead with the oil change after keeping the car overnight. When I picked it up the next day, the bill for the oil change, oil filter, air filter and tire rotation was $263.00. Yes!! You heard me right. When I asked about the price, the GM, Paul, told me VWs need a SPECIAL oil. I have owned VWs for years. Imagine my surprise when I heard that. He insisted that was right, after all he owns one too. I had someone waiting outside to get the car, so I didn't argue more, just paid the $263 and left. I called back when I got home and he again stood by the price. Said he had given me a great deal was so sorry I was upset. That special oil is expensive! I had called several places, including the service department at Lithia VW and was told there is no special oil for VWS. They charge $89 (including oil filter) and $15.50 for tire rotation. They put the same synthetic oil in all VWS and follow guidelines from VW company. I called back today and Paul told me he felt bad I was unhappy. I said BS. You tried to con me because I'm a woman. He denied of course. I asked for the exact price of each service. He started giving me different numbers, which I told him he was making up as he went. My son was on the line as well. He told Paul to give us the exact prices, which he finally did. He admitted he shouldn't have put the air filter in without asking. After a full five minutes of stalling we finally got the price of $146.07. He said he couldn't do any better than that or he would lose money. So he overcharged me admittedly $118.00. He refunded me $117. So $147.07 for an oil change and rotation. This price was $50 over what other shops charge. This was a blatant gouge job on a woman he thought was stupid. I asked to speak to the owner. He told me I couldn't because he was in the hospital after a surgery. He is a con man. Beware of the shop if you are a female. He thinks we are all stupid. I'm sure he pulls the same crap on men if he thinks he can get away with it. I plan now on taking my car to the VW service Dept. to make sure I have new oil and filters. That is how much I don't trust this shop. Buyer Beware!! read more

TPMS sensor went out on my 84 year old mothers truck. Had her take it to go ahead and have all four sensors replaced since once the batteries are at their life limit you might as well replace them. $466 later she got her sensors. They used NAPA part 9210121RC they charged 90.80 a sensor napa sells them for 44.19. I get that places put a premium on parts but double seems excessive. This was an easy job and they totally took advantage of her to stuff their pockets. SHAME! read more

These guys thrashed my Subaru. I spent $2400 changing out the timing belt and having a major service done on my outback. They used cheap, after market parts including low end brake pads and a cheesy thermostat that left my car running hot the entire winter. It cost me another $1400 to have a Subaru mechanic replace all of the parts, and my car runs fine now. Even if you had a cheesy car, you would take it somewhere cheaper. They should be ashamed. read more

Took my Subaru to them for a 30,000 mile service and an alignment. I made the appointment over a week in advance, and had it to them before the doors even opened at 7:30am. At 4:00 pm I received a call saying that they couldn't do the alignment because I needed a new bolt. It would cost an additional $124 and of course they waited too late in the day so it could not be done that day. And because they don't do repair on Saturdays I had to bring it back on Monday. Not really happy about that, but things happen. So I bring it back Monday and wait around for them to finish installing the bolt (30 mins max) and do the alignment, after 2 hours they inform me that they had a problem with another car and mine was not even on the rack yet. Really?!?!?! Over 4 hours to replace a bolt and do an alignment. read more
