If anyone suffers tire damage anywhere near Bakersfield, do not hesitate to consider Tony's Tires…read moreto get you back on the road. Worth having AAA tow you there instead of other tire places. Easy 5 stars for a that shop got me back on the road in less than 10 minutes and is open late on Sunday (Yelp has wrong hours listed, they are open until 7pm everyday including Sundays!). Anyhow, I was driving along I-5 back up to SF and one of my tires starts making a horrible loud whipping noise along the highway. Turns out my tire had tread separation and fortunately we were safe and did not suffer a tire blowout. Knowing that my car has pretty low profile and is a hard to find size, I look up all the nearby tire stores and only Pep Boys was open. Called them and obviously their tire selection is limited, especially on a Sunday. Considering I'd be paying over $200 for 1 less-than-ideal tire to get me home, I thought that there must be used tire stores in the Bakersfield area. Low and behold, I found Tony's Tires and drove 10+ miles across rural countryside roads and Bakersfield to get there. Once I got there, they were able to direct me immediately and I chose a used tire which was a good condition Bridgestone Runflat for $35 installed and I was on my way back home. Other tires of this size were available for $40 and $45 but honestly, this one was the newest and seemed the best condition to me. They tried to upsell me on a $10 balance but I declined since I knew that the tire was only temporary and turns out there was little vibration on the drive back anyhow. I would assume that anytime a tire is mounted, it is balanced so the trick to upsell me didn't work. Regardless, they are just trying to make a buck and it was a better alternative than purchasing a $200 tire from elsewhere.

I do not recommend this place. I brought in a rim for a minor repair due to a small dent, and it…read moreturned out to be the worst decision. I was told the job would take one day, but it wasn't returned until two weeks later after multiple failed attempts. When I finally got it back, the color did not match the other rims, and I was only given excuses for why it couldn't be done properly. What made it worse was the lack of communication -- I was never updated, and every time I reached out, I was told "tomorrow" or given another excuse. The owner was also very unfriendly. Although I wasn't charged for the service, they ruined a rim worth almost $1,600 by painting it incorrectly and in the wrong color. Update: What this person is saying is completely false. He repainted the rim because the initial job did not come out correctly. He claimed the issue was due to contamination from the tire protectant and mentioned something called "fish eye," which, as I understand, refers to that type of contamination. In my opinion, a skilled painter should be aware of such basic issues and inform the customer of potential problems in advance. Because he was unable to resolve the issue, I had to hire a third person to fix it. Furthermore, he never offered to replace the rim -- that was my own decision. The total cost was not $450 as he stated, but $1,600, which I had to pay due to the poor-quality work he performed.
