It was time to remove a hot tub that needed to be repaired and was not being used. After having it removed we realized how bad our patio had gotten over the years. We went to PROFICIENT PATIOS & BACKYARD DESIGNS and met with Nena Reyes. She was very personable and knowledgeable in the products she was showing us. She helped us get an appointment with Joshua Wolf. He came out and measured and explained how everything was going to be done after we chose a stamped concrete look and color. About a week later we had an appointment for the installers. The crew that was sent out were very hard workers and also very knowledgeable how to apply the stamped concrete and stains and lastly the coating. Proficient Patios finished our project a few weeks ago. I took some time to process everything before posting because I want to do my best to set emotion aside and just give facts. Having said that, this was an awful experience. We hired them to add a lattice patio cover to one part of our yard, and where we'd had an existing cover, to put on a solid roof and screen it in to give is a screened-in seating area. From day one, we weren't happy. There is so much wrong that I'm just going to try to give it in a nutshell, but whatever I put here-it will not come close to listing all that went wrong. The first part of the project was a crew extending the pavers to give us more patio area. The guys were careless with our things and treated our yard as a trash can. They tore a grill mat, snagged and ruined a rug, tossed our grill accessories out into the yard, and left their own trash all over-including food. There had been a dumpster in front of our house for this part of the job and when the dumpster had been picked up, the company left large pieces of plywood, traffic cones, dirt, and large rocks in the street. We waited nearly two weeks for them to come take care of it and ended up cleaning it up ourselves to not aggravate our HOA. The pavers were also haphazardly put in, and they barely used any sand. After it was all done, my husband had to go buy sand and fix the pavers himself. The lattice patio cover, and the frame for the screen look passable. But if you look close, you can see they cut corners. The lattice cover looked unfinished. We had to fix this ourselves. Usually, you would put caulk around where the beams meet the stucco of the house. They did not do this, leaving big gaps. When they removed the lattice cover from where it originally was against our house, it left marks in the stucco. They refused to fix this because it wasn't in the contract. We don't do this for a living. We had no idea those marks would be there when changing out roofs. How would we know to put that in the contract? We had to fix this ourselves. The guys who put the frame up did it wrong so when the screen guys came to install the screens, it caused the frame to bow outward. The screen guy admitted to us later that he knew the frame was wrong. So why did he install the screen then? Until we complained, no one ever said anything. I think they were hoping we wouldn't notice. They had to pull out screens, fix the frame (which still isn't quite right), and then install new screens. Last were the doors for the room. They're super cheap quality and they don't set right in the frame. I had them fix it and they supposedly did, but they didn't actually. The doors are still messed up. There were also big gaps in the frame that made having a screen room pointless. I had to ask them to please caulk these gaps because they hadn't planned to. My husband had to fix all of that too. And while they installed the patio cover and the framing for the screen room, they cut all materials in our yard. So, aluminum was everywhere. It has been weeks since they left and I'm still cleaning it up. We have both large, jagged shards around the yard, and small, fine sprinkles that look like glitter. I had hoped they planned on cleaning it up but they never did. They also never cleaned the patio before setting up the frame for the screen room. They just set up the base on aluminum shards, leaves and dirt. This company has zero attention to detail, they don't even try to present you with a polished finished project. Most companies clean everything up so that when you see the final project it is pretty and ready to use. Not Proficient Patios. They just hand you a mess. I feel like I paid them a fat stack of cash for them to come destroy my property and leave a mess in my yard. We had to clean up so much after them, and fix so many of their mistakes that I'm not sure what we even paid them for. And we're still finding problems, including a few that we found today since it is raining. I've never worked with a contractor where the main person didn't show up at end of project to walk through the project with you and point out all the things they did. Usually when this happens the person is super proud of what they're handing off to you. This did not happen at all with Proficient Patios. No one came to see the end result. But I guess that makes sense since what they handed off to us should be an embarrassment to them. read more

I am having work done in my backyard and I needed to have hundreds of pavers removed along with Flagstone. I'm also having a patio slab and cover put up. The demo and prep crew were great! Saul, Bernardo, and Omar worked so hard digging up everything, loading it up on wheelbarrows and took loads to the dumpster out in the front yard. Wish we shopped around before having projects done with them. They did our balcony and enclosed part of our backyard to make into a sunroom and did a lousy job. When it rained hard weeks ago, it got flooded. Told them to fix/reseal it but there was no sense of urgency to schedule for them to fix. Project costed us $20k just the sunroom enclosure plus extra 15k I think for balcony. Guess what? It rained hard again today and once again, it flooded. The gutter drain installed by the balcony just on top of the sunroom is too short where it brings the water down the pillar. This caused water fall down the wall and splashing on the walls that were recently installed. We asked to get the gutter extended to the side so it diverts the water off the balcony and to the sides so it doesnt water fall down the new walls downstairs. Water was leaking from under the wall and into the room. We would need to get the wall sealed from the inside and outside. They ordered the part for the gutter and when it came, no sense of urgency. They should refund part of our money. We don't feel valued as a customer. Go somewhere else and I would NOT recommend to anyone! read more

Our Catalina Awning from Sun Control Retractable Shades (the manufacturer) was extended when a rogue wind gust almost ripped it off my house. I was able to retract it, but it looked like the awning arms were bent. I called the company that installed the awning (Proficient Patios & Backyard Designs of Las Vegas), and explained what happened to their service representative "Anna". I asked if she could send someone out to assess the damage and get it working properly. I texted Anna several pictures and videos of the awning. Anna said she had to explain the issue to her boss and would call me back that day. I didn't get a call back. Next day, I called again and Anna said her boss was in meetings and she would talk with her about the issue after 2PM and then she would get back to me. Four days later, and still no call from Proficient Patios, so I called the manufacturer (Sun Control Retractable Shades), explained my situation, and asked for additional names/contact info of installers/service reps in Las Vegas besides Proficient Patios. They gave me numbers for two other companies, the first was Transitions Window Fashions & Shutters. I called them around 9AM and they were able to dispatch someone (Ryan B.) the same day. Ryan was scheduled to show up at 3PM but arrived 20 minutes early. After assessing the situation, he saw that the adjustment screws were not locked down and the awning just needed to be aligned. The alignment was pretty simple, actually. He adjusted everything while I watched and took the time to explain what he was doing. The alignment alone took less than 30 minutes! He also inspected the awning to ensure there was no damage, and to my surprise there wasn't. And guess what...I still have yet to hear back from Proficient Patios and & Backyard Designs (of Las Vegas, NV). I find value in companies that stand behind their products and services. Customer service is important to me, while customer "no-service" is not. Needless to say, Proficient Patios of Las Vegas is "in my rear view mirror". read more

Had the pleasure working wth Richie (salesperson) on reviewing over Patio Cover options, as at the time I was just exploring options and pricing however, throughout the discussion I had the opportunity to look over project album of the various patio covers with detail and knew that the quality I was reviewing coupled with the specific details that I was looking for in a patio Cover, Proficient Patios and Backyard was the place I wanted to complete my project with. The scheduling was overseen by both Ana and Jess, ensuring the Teams that needed to come out between the prep work, to the patio cover placement, columns/stucco and then lastly tile trimming were completed and met on project schedule. Rafael did an amazing job on the forming of three (3) columns, including stucco texture and lastly color match to the stucco and trimming colors of our house. NOT SO PROFICIENT PATIOS: The ONLY reason this place has any positive rating from me is due to the hard work the ACTUAL contracted workers did. They (the laborors) were awesome, and the company was NOT. WARNING....DO NOT CONTRACT WITH THIS BUSINESS!!!! They bait and switch you on your original design request, then threaten you with a lein on your home when you point out their mistakes, and refuse to pay for the company's mistakes. And trust me, there are TONS of mistakes. Take your hard earned money to an honest and reputable company--one that will work with you to get the perfect design (measurements and all), all issues resolved (colors, textures, code builds, HOA approval), and THEN contract for work to be done. This company is unethical at best, and incompetent when it comes to customer relations/ owner relations. Specifically, I'm talking about Jess and her inability to keep contracts straight and know her job. Here are the MAJOR issues with this company and how it's "run" 1. They develop a generic plan to build your patio, with guestimates of dimensions and square footage 2. They charge you a "change fee" if anything "changes" from the extremely rough guesstimate they initially input into your contract 3. Magically, the guesstimate is wrong, and now there's a "change fee" for the real dimensions and layout (go figure ) 4. Every "mistake" the company made was to THEIR benefit (financially via change fees) 5. Their advert said, "our team will handle EVERY aspect of your outdoor addition." Yet they send you to other contractors (who don't do everything Outdoor Patios says they will) to get aspects like masonry wall and gate installation done. That contractor then says they, "don't do masonry walls" and now you're back asking proficient patios to fix the issue. Their answer? "That will be a change fee of $1800," YHGTBSM. Talk about dishonest. Lack of Integrity much? 6. They send workers out, who constantly have to ask you what you want done, even though you have a supposedly "detailed contract." 7. Rebar is left uncapped (a massive code violation) making it a huge safety liability. 8. As a customer, you try to explain what is wrong with the project, and you get handed off to multiple people. Case in point. Jess, on multiple occasions, said they needed more money to get permits for an entertainment wall for our project, BIG problem Jess.... there was NEVER an entertainment wall requested, contracted for, or EVEN DISCUSSED. Yet this back and forth with her delayed our build by weeks. 9. We contracted for 100 sqft pad, and paid for that, but got a 60 sqft pad due to company "guestimates" and wouldn't you know.... that's, "a change fee" in favor of unproficient patios. We're still "in discussions" about this, but let's just be clear. The company refuses, AT ALL cost, to acknowledge that THEY messed up the dimension calculations. And refuse to fix the costs to reflect actual percentage of work completed. I will NEVER tell anyone to use this company, and at this point, I'm writing up a complaint to the Better Business Bureau for the absolutely horrendous and deceptive business practices of "Proficient Patios" read more
