I cannot rave enough about my visit at Progressions Salon. From the front of house hospitality to the friendliness and talent of my stylist I was truly blown away. I do not get my hair done more than once every 4 years, but I will certainly be back for a nail appointment before then, and will be recommending this salon to all of my friends. My appointment was at 8am and I was given a generously full cup of hot coffee while I waited for my stylist to settle in. I was given a little tour of the salon and impressed with how much space they have, how modern all the equipment is, and that they even have a kids room! I currently struggle to find time to get my nails done as a mom, and at Progressions I could bring my kid and get some self-love time too. They also have a vegan polish line which fits with my lifestyle. Molly was my stylist and we talked the whole appointment! She is so friendly and I loved getting to know her and sharing some of my life with her. She started by preparing my hair for a hair donation. I found Progressions Salon because they are one of the few businesses that accept hair donations. Molly was able to cut three braided donations off and then pamper me at the hair washing station. Progressions Salon has a chair that massages both your back and your butt during the hair wash and shampoo stage of the appointment. It was the best shampoo experience of my life. After the hair washing Molly gave me a very cute layered bob that complimented my curls. It is hard to find a stylist knowledgeable about cutting curly hair and she nailed it! After the cut she styled my hair and I was set to meet my friends for brunch. I recently visited Progressions Salon for my 9 AM appointment, and unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, I was informed by my stylist that she had limited experience with my specific hair type. While I appreciated her honesty, her lack of trying to come up with an alternative made me uneasy about the interaction. I inquired about the possibility of consulting another stylist, but the response I received felt dismissive. The stylist suggested I wait while she spoke to the receptionist, who was occupied on the phone. Ultimately, it seemed like no other stylist would be available to assist me at that time based on the response of this stylist. She even did not want me to wait to speak with the receptionist which was very odd. She told me that there was no one and she would explain to the receptionist. I went to walk out and even turned back around because I was going to ask and she questioned what I wanted to ask the receptionist further causing me to feel like this was not a space for me or my natural hair. I found this encounter disappointing. I expected a more accommodating response to my specific hair care needs. I hope that Progressions can address these issues to improve the experience for future clients. As someone who previously heard great things about the salon and the support that they provided to a nonprofit that I am associated with, I expected better. read more

I gave 5 stars rating base on everything. The first thing surprised me was about the business hours. I was happened to tired of my long hair, and sitting and looking on the phone trying to do some changes on Saturday morning. And it was pop up that Progressions Salon opens at 8am on Saturday morning. OMG! I booked the appointment right away. The place is super neat and clean, staffs were very friendly and attentive. I think the clientele is middle age to older women, so I'm sure they'd have piece of mind that this is a safe space to get beautiful. I had a wonderful experience, from booking to hair cut, with Progressions. First, I booked an appointment online, which was seamless and easy to do. Based on photos in Yelp, I somewhat randomly picked a stylist. I commented in the notes that stylists typically have to do a lot of dry cutting for my thick, wavy hair and wanted to be sure that 45 minutes would be enough time for this, since I hadn't had a haircut in 18 months (thanks COVID). Progressions first texted and suggested a later time for the first stylist so that she wouldn't be rushed to the next appointment. Then, they suggested a different stylist who was experienced with thick, wavy hair. My appointment was rescheduled and confirmed, in less than 2 minutes, via text. Perfect. I started out with a wonderful shampoo from Sandra, who I have to return to tip better because I didn't have enough singles. [Side note: Progressions can't make change, but you can tip with a card. I prefer to leave cash tips, so be prepared unlike me!]. Next, my stylist, Ligia, was FANTASTIC. She asked questions, checked a few times to be sure she understood what I wanted, made a few suggestions, then tackled the job. She was done in under an hour and did a tremendous amount of shaping and cutting to get it just right. I have had so many stylists over the years rush the finishing touches that my hair seems to need to look right, and I've also had stylists take 90 minutes to get it right, but I always feel terrible because I know it's cutting into their other appointments and tips. I feel like Progressions took the time and care to make sure I'd get a great haircut, from booking to finish, and made sure to match me with a stylist who could do the job without having to sacrifice their own appointment slots. Really bad management- After scheduling my appointment by phone and expressly indicating to the representative that I did not want to exceed a budget of $250 (my hair is noticeably short) for highlights and a cut, I was taken in for a $421 dollar ride! First, I was initially scheduled to see Evelyn, then was assigned to a noticeably young lady with no experience. The manager, realizing that it was not going to work for me, called a different stylist, and lo and behold I had to wait 45 minutes for my turn - so much for scheduling an appointment! After much back and forth between two stylists to accommodate me, and 3 hours later, I was faced with a $421 dollar bill. And this is after a $30 dollar discount for the "inconvenience". The receipt shows an overprice of ......$120 dollars for a haircut on someone whose hair is already truly short and thin, $179 for partial highlights and $170 for a base color that never happened. I don't patronize shops where the proprietor lies to me. I was looking for a hair moisturizing treatment that was cruelty-free (not tested on animals). When I asked the proprietor if they offered any, she says "yes" and showed me the bottle. I'd never heard of the company so checked them online. "Not cruelty-free" said my source. I showed her the listing. "Cruelty-free," she insisted. I pointed out the exact words to her. "Cruelty-free" she insisted again. Maybe she couldn't read. Maybe she thought she could intimidate me. I go regularly for Ligia's services, she always make me look beautiful and makes recommendations for my hair as well as products. I've also had Spa services, massage, facials and eye brows treatments. I have been pretty satisfied with what I've received. I look forward to my visits because it is so relaxing, the girls at the front desk are always so helpful and pleasant which sets the tone. I've gotten familiar with Vanessa and Gabby who pretty much knows what my needs are. It helps that they occasionally offer specials for their products and services which makes it affordable for me. I've been taking advantage of their packages which is a good deal! Although they're taking precautions during COVID, I can't wait for things to get back to them fully operational. This review has been long over due. I've been a regular here for the last year and a half-ish. I have dense, curly hair and Sandra is a hair magician! I have reached a comfort level with her that I can blindly trust her with my tresses. Maryam is my go to person for facials and extractions. Very gentle and through with cleaning my skin. She recommended that I follow a daily face cleaning routine of my own and I felt the difference in 2 weeks! The best thing about progressions is they don't try to sell you products you don't need. I have not experienced that awkward conversation with any of their staff in the last 2 years. Good, professional and very busy salon. Just a heads up - they are closed on Sundays since the new year so it's a good idea to book you appointments way in advance. I've been debating whether or not to review but because Megan doesn't seem to have any reviews I feel its important to review to save someone else from potentially having this disaster as well. If you have a bad experience with them prepare to be majorly gaslit. I went in with blonde hair with dirty blonde roots and wanted highlights to go back to a more platinum blonde which is how I have been coloring my hair for the last 4+ years and walked out with brownish/purplish/grey hair and $350 less in my pocket. I felt pretty disappointed at the salon but had already been there for 5 hours and needed to get home to my husband and two babies, plus Megan kept saying it looked "so blonde" and I was hoping that I just couldn't really see with my mask and it getting darker outside. I get home and my husband doesn't say anything which is unusual but we we're running late to dinner so I ignored it. I get to my brothers house and the first thing he says is what happened to your hair?? At this point I have confirmed that it doesn't look good and so I text a couple hairstylists a picture to see what they think. The basic consensus was that she left the toner on for too long and did a subpar job at the highlights. The next morning when I wake up it looks even worse so I call progressions and Cindy answers. I tell her that I think the toner has been left on for too long-- do they have any safe recommendations for getting it out? She asks me to send pictures and she will call back. An hour later she calls me back and tells me that Megan saw the pictures and said that it will wash out over the next 2-3 weeks and look how I wanted it too. I have literally never left a salon where they've told me that it'll take weeks to look correct, so I start asking more questions along the lines of why I was not told this yesterday and she tells me that she will talk to Julia the master colorist and they will get back to me. I will try to sum this up briefly but basically I am told that it "doesn't look bad", that my "inspiration picture" (which was a photo of my hair 1 year ago mind you) was unrealistic for my hair type, that it would take months to achieve what I asked for etc BUT that they want me to be happy so they can have me come in and see what can be done. I mention that none of this was said to me during my appointment and I would have asked for something different if that was the case and they continue to defend Megans work. After going round in circles, I agree to meet with Julia, but she doesn't have any openings until 6 days later. After washing it twice not only has the toner not started come out, but I now have orange brassy roots at my part and at this point am needing to wear a baseball hat in public because my hair looks that bad. I wait the 6 days only to be called 5 hours before my appointment and told that they need to cancel because Julia is sick (understandable) but they have another colorist who can work on my hair on Saturday (where has she been the last 6 days ??) or I can wait until Monday night. At this point I'm feeling pretty frustrated, so I tell them that I am going to go to another salon. They tell me they don't recommend me doing that as it could be damaging to my hair, as if what they've already done isn't damaging to both my hair and self esteem. More gaslighting occurs. Now I'm being told that it's my fault because my hormones have changed, my hair was too porous and pulled the toner too much (why was she not checking??) and that covid has caused people's hair to change. Again its a bunch of excuses as to what I did wrong and zero accountability on Megan and Progressions as a whole. I was a loyal customer throughout my teenage/ early 20s then moved out of state and was excited to make progressions my go to salon again. Bottom line: accidents happen and how you handle them speaks volumes about your integrity. I genuinely wanted to give Progressions/ Megan the benefit of the doubt, but after 10 days and numerous conversations, I have lost all confidence in Progressions as a salon and have decided to go elsewhere to correct this. read more

Progressions salon is truly family. I have been going to their salon for over thirty (30) years and they continue to amaze me. Their front staff is always so welcoming, outgoing and helpful. I have seen Julia and Alice for color who are both sensational. I can't say enough about their incredible staff! Cindy, the owner, always greets me with a kind hello and continues to support me outside of the salon as I have worked for a number of non profits. Progressions and Cindy are always the first ones to donate, participate and give to The Children's Inn at NIH and the OI Foundation. The person who did my hair was very nice and skilled, just not enough for me, so it is difficult for me to write this review of how unsatisfied I am. My hair color is not what I requested, but it was communicated what would be done, and I agreed, so I would be OK with that if my haircut was at least acceptable, but it is not, it amazes me how much is unnoticed when they blow out your hair and it is not until you wash it that the truth comes out on how poorly it was done. I kind of had a feeling but hoped I was wrong because who really gets anything out driving so far, paying so much and writing a review of unsatisfation to wear their hair tied back because the haircut doesn't work...especially when we are all supposed to be spreading positivity. It's a terrible situation. The service in general that day was lacking, which was unusual from my previous experience. From the first call, I knew that Progressions would be a great, professional experience. They asked me what my budget was and clued me in on their tiered pricing/stylists. Once I got there, there were plenty of receptionists to greet and she took me on a tour around the salon (never had THAT at a salon before). And, on a morning weekday, the salon was pretty packed. Onto the tour. There's a kid's room with a tv and toys (what?!), an area where you can get free juice and snacks (what?!?!) and then hidden in the back is a spa (okkkkkkay) and a nail salon (how'd you hide that?!). I was already sold at the snacks :) Navan was really easygoing, and asked me what I was looking for and my routine. He suggested some products for me without trying to sell it, and only highly recommended one product rather than everything he was using. He handed me a new client packet, which also gave me an immediate discount to the cut and products. I was really pleased with the quality of the cut and time it took--not too long, not too quick. The receptionist booked me my next appointment and added it to my online account, which is nice addition to joining this salon--you can get texted your appointments and manage it online. And, the cute tips slot was convenient for me to drop in with ease. I will definitely be back...a comfortable salon with great customer service. read more

I hate to do this but I value and rely on the reviews on Yelp. This was one of the worst haircuts I have ever received, so bad I left mid-cut. I was not asking for anything complicated and I even showed pictures showing exactly what I wanted (pictures of me with the desired cut). Not only was there a complete lack of skill with the equipment (she used clippers used to trim neck hair for my ENTIRE HEAD), but there was her constantly telling me the way I need to be styling my hair. Do not go here for a men's haircut. Sports Clips or Great Clips would be better, not joking. read more

I highly recommend her if you are looking for a modern and current look. Like my wife, my only qualm is with the prices. $50 + tip for a men's cut is a bit pricey, especially when it takes less than 30 min, but like Starbucks, you are paying extra for the experience -- which is always superb! UPDATE: After a not-so-happy time at the local Cartoon Cuts, I brought my 1-year-old son Jude to see Trinh. Everyone at the salon was really nice and the hair-cut couldn't have been easier. So, as you can see from the response of the owner, she was going to contact me. It has never happened. The customer service here is getting bad. Last time when I got my haircut, the front desk person spent 35 minutes trying to take the payment. I was leaving tip in cash, but it took her so much time and 3 (three!!!) credit cards to take the payment. None of my credit cards was declined, it's just something was not right with that person. First, she charged me $135 instead of 150, then asked for another credit card, charged wrong amount again and asked for the card again. I was running late for my work meetings. Finally, their manager came. I think her name was Meghan, but I may be wrong. She wasn't warm or trying to make that experience pleasant and rolled her eyes (seriously?) when I asked to give me her business card and copies of all receipts, so I can monitor the charges on all credit cards. A few weeks ago, due to work emergency (going through some reorganization), I had to cancel my same day appointment. I called them as early as the salon opened. Now they want me to pay $75 cancellation fee. I've never been told about this fee before. The person on the phone told me to check my confirmation messages. NOWHERE in the texts they have sent me is said about $75 fee. I also don't schedule appointments online. I called the salon to discuss and been promised that the manager will call me. It's been four days, and nobody has even bothered to contact me. I am done with this place. Bottom line - great stylists, more than horrible customer service. read more

Best Haircut of My Life! I've been going here since I moved down to the area and have had several different hairstylists during that time. All have been fabulous and better each time. Current, the hairstylist I see gives me the best haircuts of my life! Even 6 months later, it looks like it is still fresh and healthy. Definitely worth every penny! Also, I get my brows done there by their excellent spa staff. I need to check out their other spa services someday too.
