Their prices are "very" reasonable especially given the portions that you receive. Just writing this review is giving me a craving for their food and bread (a must try - garlic butter spread). The food here is some of the best Italian cooking that I have had with an impeccable wait staff. I read the reviews for Pronto Joey's, ordered and picked up our meal, and was impressed with the food we ordered. I ordered a caesar salad for the wife and I to split. The lettuce was crisp, the dressing delicious, and the loaf of bread that came with it was fresh. We also ordered two small pizzas to share with the kids. The curst was crisp and delicious with just the right amount of toppings and not greasy. I would have no problem recommending Pronto Joey's for take out. You won't find better Italian dining in Central New York than Joey's. My family has been coming here for years, and very rarely have we ever left unsatisfied. Then this place is for you. The service is always fantastic, and they have a pretty solid wine list to boot. I was in town with my husband and mom for my convocation at SU, and successfully stayed away from chain restaurants during our visit! My favorite spot was Pronto Joey's. We ended up waiting about half an hour to be seated, because the dining room was small and people had reservations since it was, indeed, graduation weekend. Once we were seated, I was very impressed! Starters were great. The house vinaigrette on my side salad was divine, and ask for an extra loaf of that amazing warm bread with the garlic butter. I ordered off the make your own pasta menu, got angel hair pasta with marinara sauce and mushrooms. Yum! My mom said her chicken marsala was the best she's had in a long time, and my husband, the pizza expert, raved about his personal pizza. This restaurant is in the same building as a sister restaurant with a similar name, and this can be a little confusing. In fact, while I was eating dinner, I saw some people be turned to the other restaurant and someone near my table actually showed the waitress a picture on his phone of a menu item that he wanted from the other restaurant. She told him she could get that for him, which is great customer service, but a little bit weird. I think posting both menus in the shared lobby would be very helpful. My impression is that Pronto Joey's is a more "blue collar" version of the other restaurant. The restaurant is cozy and a little bit diner-like in its decor. The service is fast and friendly. The menu has a wide variety of classic Italian dishes and the prices are reasonable. I ordered scallops, broiled, and they were pretty good. They came with a side of spaghetti and asparagus. Unfortunately, the asparagus was sitting in the butter/wine sauce of the scallops, so it was a little bit mushy. I also received a very large portion of Italian bread with garlic butter. I would say that the food was all good, but pretty basic it's preparation, and very plain in its presentation. I feel like this rated a "3" for my first visit; however, I suspect that, if I had the opportunity to return and explore the menu some more, I would probably find some dishes that could become favorites of mine. I would highly recommend this as a place to try for locals; however, if you're just visiting from out of town, perhaps the restaurant downstairs would be a more special place to try. read more

Wonderful little establishment. I can't believe I've lived in the area my entire life, and never eaten here before this winter! The food is affordable and the portions are pretty large. This is not the usual super acidic canned sauce junk you see at so many other Italian places. The food here really speaks for itself. Everything is so obviously home made, not bought in, it makes you wish it was your Grandmother's cooking! I've had the cannelloni as well as the fisherman's dinner and they were both prepared perfectly. The salads are always fresh and fantastic, not bagged iceburg, the soup is so full of veggies and possibly unicorn dust. Do yourself a favor and save room for the desert. You get a good eyeful of their (home made!) tasty treasures on the way to your table. The're around $5ish a piece I believe, and worth every penny. The desert portions are large enough to share...If you're into that sort of thing :) The staff is fantastic as well. We came in with a very crabby & hungry 2 year old after a very long evening & our server was very kind and friendly. She had our little grump giggling and munching on some (incredibly fantastic) soup within 5 minutes. I was very disappointed in my recent visit to pronto Joeys I admit I haven't been there in a couple years and I won't be back. I wasn't told about the specials I heard about it from other waitresses after I had ordered, I guess I didn't read the menu well enough to realize that you don't get a side of pasta with your entrée but you do get a salad as my waitress said "I'm going to give you a salad "And I ordered the Utica greens, not sure what they were when they came loaded with onions bell peppers and a few straggly pieces of escarole that was tough I couldn't eat it I sent it back. I had the haddock Franceses ,nice lemon butter sauce after all everything is better with butter on it, that's when I realized to order pasta on the side because it didn't come with my dinner and my waitress didn't tell me that. my pasta was very good, so looking forward to going out to dinner and I was so disappointed ,I was there early,5, it was not busy but I still could not get any service throughout my meal. read more

Joey's has an upstairs which is casual-dining dining and it downstairs which is more formal with a nice Bar and white cloth tabletop top. Staff was wonderful and the food was excellent. I started off with a blue moon with the orange very fresh. House salad with Italian dressing blue cheese crumble excellent portion. My main course was lasagna with sausage link there was so much I couldn't eat it all. I must say I was quite surprised by the reviews. The food was such a disappointment. The pizza tasted like something I'd make in my toaster oven - the Franciase was so unbelievably tart and bitter. The sauce on the manicotti and pasta side dishes tasted like it came from a can. I suppose I'm used to Italian food from the Bronx and NYC so perhaps upstate NewYork has different standards and taste buds. I am in the Syracuse area for work and Joey's is less than a mile from my hotel. After hearing rave reviews about the bread at Joey's from my co-workers, I ordered some soup and bread to-go for my boyfriend and myself. It was a Friday night and I ordered two bowls of Clam Chowder and some bread. The soup was AMAZING. The reason I am writing this review is the fact that the clam chowder at this restaurant is the best I've ever had. Also, the bread is free, comes in a huge, warm loaf... and is served with a very tasty whipped garlic butter. One bowl of soup was enough to feed both of us and we had the second for lunch the next day. We have eaten clam chowder every Friday night since then! There are 2 restaurants here, this review is for Pronto Joey's upstairs. This place could be great, I can see that. But it falls short in things that could be easily corrected. My date and I went for lunch around 1pm... here is how it went: Got seated at a table that was soaking wet, you need to dry the tables after wipe down. The table was not properly set, no silver ware or napkins but there were 2 small round plates one of which was dirty. It seems that when they clean a table they do not remove any dishes that "look unused" from the previous diner. I move the dirty plate to the table next to us. From there a server moved it to another vacant table and then it landed at its final destination. That's a long ride for a dirty plate. Please clean away all of the items from the previous diners, even if they look unused. That is just being lazy not to. (0 stars for the table) Ordered a garlic pizza for the appetizer. The garlic was good, cheese was good, but the crust is a shell from the Cisco truck. Kind of cooked dark brown on one side, pretty light on the other. It's an italian place, you have to make dough. A shell is too "pizza pizza". It isn't expensive really, maybe that is all you deserve for the price. (2 stars because of the crust) Ordered Fried fish and manicotti. The fish looked great, not very thick, but it was fried to death. It was hard and dry (not greasy though). I think it was fried way too long. Couldn't be cut with a fork and chewy. Too thin a piece for too long a cook time. The manicotti didn't come, stuffed shells did instead. The check confirmed that manicotti was ordered. Bummer. The meatball was big, flavor was ok but the texture was very very fine. The sausage was just ok, might want to invest in Gianelli's for this. A little too much paprika maybe. Wasn't bad, wasn't good. The sauce? Kind of the same, not bad, not good. (Fish 2 stars, Stuffed shells 2 stars, incorrect order 0 stars, meatball 3.5 stars, sausage 3 stars) Wait staff? Three restaurants. One lot. Pronto Joey's is an eclectic, modern, funky little place located above Joey's fine Italian Dining. Two vastly different dining experiences in one building. Plus a great litle pizza joint in an building adjacent. I placed an order to go and picked it up. Baked rigatoni with a meatball, a bowl of greens and beans and a calzone the size of a football. The rigatoni was pretty standard. But the sauce is made in house and it is good. A loose sauce based on crushed tomatoes and basil. The pasta is cooked to order and is al dente. The Meatball is HUGE and it comes with the rigatoni. One could choose a piece of sausage instead. The greens and beans are escarole and white northern beans. It's really a soup. I am disappointed with the bacon in it. It was not sauteed to yummy godness but was just boiled in the liquid. making it kindeof limp. It would be vastly improved if pancetta were used, or at least cook up the bacon before adding. The calzone was gigantic and made to order. It had an even brown crispy crust and the inside was soft and fluffy. Generous fixin's. Served with a side of marinara sauce. In addition to my order, a loaf of fresh warm Italian bread and two cups of garlic butter. They even included several sets of utensils. Score! There's a generous dessert case. Looks delish. I didn't indulge, but I'll be back. Pronto Joey's is an inexpensive, generously portioned, casual Italian place with some good sauce.
