I like them better than some of the other Mexican places in Pedro. More flavor and less heat. They have a great offer on taco Tuesday for a three street taco plate with rice and beans for about 14 bucks. We tried the El Pastor taco, Carnitas taco, and the Carne Asada taco. My son really enjoyed the taco plate, and made a point to tell me how much she liked it. In my opinion, the Carne Asada was very well done as it was real chunks of steak, not diced. He said the same thing. The meat was tender, salty and good quality, no gristle. I will definitely go back for the Carne Asada tacos. We were in port for the day and it was too far to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant in LA (El Cholo) so we went to Maria's and we were not disappointed. The fiesta platter was a great start, but the real standout was the cheese enchilada's. The rich, slightly bitter sauce was absolutely perfect. This is the way enchiladas have been service in Southern California since the 1920s, and it's wonderful to see the tradition carried on here. Service was so very nice and friendly. There is a shortage of good Mexican restaurants in the South Bay. I have asked quite a few of my Mexican friends, and they agreed. One of my friends mentioned Maria's. It's a hole in the wall with about 10 tables. The salsa is very tasty, slight amount of heat. I pour it over whatever I order. Usually my wife and I split the Carne Asada Tostada. I got the shrimp enchiladas, the shrimp wasn't seasoned and the enchilada was stuffed with fajita peppers. There were only 4 shrimp per enchilada. Perhaps they're rationing? I don't know. Rice and beans were good. Chips and salsa were good. Guacamole was expensive as hell but good. I tried a green chicken enchilada and can say that the shredded chicken had more flavor than my shrimp. This is the kind of place that caucasians from the Midwest would rave about but Mexican Americans would say, "aw hell nahhh". Good beer selection (tap & bottle). Trying to support local mom and pop establishments during COVID, so last week I ordered a campechana and a coronita (corona + margarita) to go. The campechana was so good and refreshing. Packed with so much seafood. I actually couldn't even finish it all and had the rest the next day for lunch. My coronita was really good and paired wonderfully with the campechana during the hot day. I had never been here before and only heard of them through a local FB group that was promoting eating local. Worst pozole I've ever had. 1-It was full of fat 2-little meat. It literally had 3 small pieces of pork. 3- expensive for a quart container with 1/3 of hominy, 3 pieces of meat and one of those pieces was pure fat. It is so difficult for me to find quality Mexican food not only because my mother was a restaurant owner and her food is still delicious, but I also cook Mexican food and this was absolutely terrible.
