Feels more like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant complete with loud chatter. Seating: plenty but can be cramped. Staff: nice but stretched to thin. Need maybe one more person in the register. Parking: tough on a Saturday Food: eh. Chicken sandwich I had was to plain for my taste. The chips lacked flavor and had the consistency of a bag of chips that was left open for a week. Soft chips? Came here last Sunday for their pre-opening/free sandwich day! Proposition Chicken is located right next door to Peet's. Parking can be a bit tough depending on the time of day that you stop in. I got the fried sandwich and it was pretty tasty. The bread is nice and soft, although I wish it was a bit more toasted. The chicken was crispy and surprisingly juicy for being chicken breast. The slaw also added a nice crunch. Definitely use the hot sauce on the tables--it adds such a nice tang and kick to the sandwich! Not sure if the samples were the actual size of the sandwich, but most likely not as they were free; the chicken was a bit sparse considering each sandwich is regularly priced at $13. I have always been eyeing this restaurant since I live so close here. So we tried their bbq chicken wings and I loved it. I like that it's not too saucy and has the right amount of flavor added. 3.7 star joint. Very very busy lunch spot. Call ahead to pick up! I ordered when I got there and it took a while. Took about 25-30 min to get my order. They were fast considering how busy they were. The cute bagger dude was cool but didn't seem to like people asking for extra ketchup. Food: fries are dry but seasoned well and the dipping sauce is okay, reminded me of artichokes for some reason. Since it opened I think I have eaten at Proposition Chicken only three, maybe four times, which is sad considering I live within walking distance. Okay so it is a very long hard mostly uphill walk but still it can be done. I am pretty sure the first time I went I got a chicken sandwich, the second time was wings, and while the blue cheese mousse was lost on me I did enjoy the wings. I know I have had the matzo ball soup, either stealing from my fiance or on my own and while it is really good... nothing will ever be as good at the memories of my Grammies matzo ball soup, so there. Well yesterday my fiance and I wander in and I get a fried chicken meal for lunch. I knew it would be good because their food is always good. What I didn't know was the the next morning to piece of chicken I didn't eat at lunch would still be earth-shatteringly crispy after spending all night in the fridge. I am a big fan of cold fried chicken for breakfast, lunch, dinner and honestly I have never had cold fried chicken that was still so crispy. I really wanted to try a new chicken sandwich instead of going with my my usual Bakesale Betty or 10th & Wood. After hitting up Yelp for something new, I landed on Proposition Chicken. I try to keep an open mind about new stuff but it's safe to say that PC won't be replacing any of my usuals or joining my rotation. Fired chicken sandwich with the homemade chips are the go to! They tend to hold quality even to go. The slaw is also good even tho I'm generally not a fan of slaw elsewhere. I used to live across from a market that made the best rotisserie chicken and each week my fiancé and I would pick one up for a weekday dinner. Since moving to Oakland, we've been having difficulty finding ANY rotisserie chicken...the market was always out and we didn't have luck with any restaurants...until we tried here! This place HIT THE SPOT! My fiancé and I each got the flipped chicken entree and it was the perfect portion. It came with a half breast, thigh and leg and was so moist and flavorful on the inside and perfectly crisp on the exterior! It came with a nice side of tomatoes and cucumbers and a cornbread biscuit that is soooo good. My kids were hungry after school. And my daughter with a gluten allergy said she wanted fried chicken. Then, I remembered hearing about this spot having gluten free fried chicken! So, I decided to fulfill my daughter's craving! I got my daughter the Fried Chicken Entree. Gluten Free. So this automatically substitutes the biscuit for the hand cut fries. I also got an order of chicken strips with a side of potato wedges. The staff was super friendly. And my order came out fairly quick. They called my name and walked it out to me with a warm smile. The bag had each item in separate containers and neatly labeled. This was the greatest take out presentation I had ever seen... Such great service! The entree was HUGE! Three pieces of chicken. An overflow of fries. And a cucumber & tomato salad in a small plastic container. My daughter LOVED her gluten free meal. She let me taste, and you wouldn't be able to tell it was gluten free at all! Which makes this meal super awesome for my daughter, who didn't feel like she's modifying her meal in any way! The hand cut fries were more like steak fries. You can taste a hint of herb. But that didn't stop my toddler from enjoying. The potato wedges look heavily seasoned. My son thought they'd be spicy. But, it wasn't. Couldn't tell that it's supposed to be a garlic thyme flavor. But, the wedges are thick and cooked perfectly. My son was in heaven with the chicken strips. With his first bite, he exclaimed, "Oh my god! This is SOOOOO good!" He mentioned that these were better than KFC or Popeyes, so I guess I'll never be able to take the kids to those type of fast food joints again. Friendly and quick service when I walked in despite the obvious large number of to go orders in progress. Told 10-15 it would be a 10-15 minute wait and it was probably less than that. Food was good. I forgot to ask fir the dressing in the side do I got it as is. Not too much dressing, but definitely there. Stop by if you're looking for some bomb chicken. This place is an over the counter service, quick and easy. I came Saturday around noon and there was no wait, my food came out in 5 minutes. Service was also great. They have a build your own menu, where you can do a salad, sandwich, or entree. I ordered the sandwich with fried chicken and it was BOMB. They had Crispy, juicy and tender chicken. I loved how big and thick the chicken cuts were. Only downside was the bun was okay and the fries were subpar, so minus 1 star for that. Gluten warning: I was excited that this place has gluten-free fried chicken, as well as gluten-free sandwich buns! But then all of their mayonnaise is... MALTED mayonnaise, meaning that it's made from malt vinegar (which is barley, which is gluten!). WHY? Listen, I respect the fact that every restaurant menu isn't going to be entirely gluten-free! Super oily chicken with minimal seasoning. I can't lie, I've had my countless share of Banquet TV dinners as a kid and I used to choose the fried chicken one because the little brownie served in between the corn and mashed potato sides. This is EXACTLY like that. I don't care about the prices, they use Mary's chicken which is great-ish. This place has been sitting in my places to go for way too long, finally we made it! Got the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Flipped Chicken Sandwich so we could compare. This was like a kids meal . In my opinion they're weighing and stretching the chicken. Definitely you could see where they sliced the breast in 1/2 or 1/3 of a real breast . Asked for the manager and they said he:she isn't available , A supervisor with purple eyelids told me to contact owner . Well where is the owner ? For 16.26$, so uncool ! I'm lowering my rating to 2 stars because management just doesn't seem to care about their customers OR employees. I shared my frustrations (professionally) with management 6 months ago about how their counter is chaos for pickups but nothing has changed. When I picked up my 4 sandwiches on Fri night at 6pm there were 7 guys ordering and 3 of us waiting for our pickups...and *one* poor hardworking cashier. 10min later he finally found the time to reach back and hand me my bag (of now cold sandwiches) that was 3 feet behind him. Does Proposition Chicken management actually care? It's such a terrible customer experience, and an even worse employee experience. It's actually not that hard to fix but they have to WANT to make their customers happy, and reward their employees for all their hard work, but unfortunately that just doesn't seem to be the case. #Sigh read more

The fried tofu sandwich was delicious. Even with our delayed pickup of this takeout, the tofu was crispy and the toppings and sauce added moistness and tang. Large enough to feed two so I had half for lunch th he next day. The seasoned fries dill dipping sauce was gmbetter than the garlic sauce served with regular fries. I've been wanting to try Proposition Chicken since I saw a pic on Instagram and finally we were able to go grab a sandwich before our movie last night. OMG the fricken chicken sandwich was the bomb cluckety cluck cluck :-) We got the flipped rotisserie style which was tender and had an exceptional seasoned flavor. The spicy slaw had the perfect amount of spiciness and was a nice added touch. The roll was soft and had an herb like flavor to it. They would have got a 5 star but the potato wedges were not fully cooked throughout but they had good flavor. The staff was very friendly and the service was fairly quick which was nice since we had a movie to get to and there was a constant line of people ordering or picking up food for takeout. Came here for the first time since before the pandemic and four years after my initial review in which I expressed bewilderment at the chopped up chicken in the fried chicken sandwich. Turns out four years later they are still chopping up the chicken instead of giving you a single fried chicken breast. There also seems to still be no quality control over the pieces of chicken that go in the sandwich. Half of my sandwich was inedible dried fried crust with no actual meat in it. I would've asked them to make another one, but I was going to a movie at Grand Lake Theater and didn't have time. I don't understand why this place can't figure out how to fry and serve a single large chicken breast like Hotbird, Hotboys, Kowbird, and even Super Duper Burger and Popeye's for clucks sake. At this price the chicken should not be chopped up like baby food and doused in wet coleslaw to hide the fact that you're getting about half a chicken breast for $13. Shameful and especially frustrating since on rare occasions I've gotten lucky and had sandwiches here that would be 5 star worthy. I wish Dave's Hot Chicken would open a shop on Lakeshore, we would all be better off for it. read more

We've ordered a few times on Caviar and have been impressed. The chicken tenders are real chicken, three to an order and good sized. The spicy dipping sauce is very tasty. My wife enjoys the chicken sandwich. Sides have been better than "just OK. Definitely acceptable but not mindblowing. The chicken is the star and it travels well. Ordered with coworkers, food delivered fast, I had the chicken strips, other people had the chicken salad. The chicken strips were very tasty and not dried. Their batter is super light and not greasy at all. It had a nice little kick to it and the dipping sauce made it all the better. My coworkers enjoyed their salads, will have to try another time.
