Was fortunate enough to place our order before they ran out of chicken at approximately 545pm on opening day. This place reminds me of a cross between Nando's Peri Peri and Chicken Campero oddly enough. We ordered the fried chicken which was tender but was not breaded like what is seen in the photos for some reason. It still had a crispy outer skin and was nicely seasoned. My kids felt the best part of the meal were the biscuits though. They tasted like a lighter cornbread muffin with a hint of honey. This place has no accountability for customer service. The manager has no idea how to correct issues and actually no desire to do so. I have ordered from this place quite consistently since they opened and in my last 3 delivery orders, they have messed it up. The chips served with the sandwich were oily and bland, as well. I don't even think they put salt on them. And if you order in store, you typically will wait around 30 + min for you order. Wanted to update the review. Got an email from management and they gave me a coupon to go back and give the restaurant another chance. I've been back four times now. Everything I've ordered since I've gone back has been very well cooked. Kudos for the fried chicken salad; it's great. Service is on point for everyone except the woman I originally had an issue with. She's still rude and acts like she can't be bothered and if it weren't for the other people who man the register [shoutout all the boys who have great customer service, are always professional and welcoming and SMILE like they appreciate the business] I likely would never go back. Don't bother. Totally overpriced for what you get. Cheap wonder bread type bread. All it is, is lettuce, mayonnaise and chicken and that's it. I ordered the flipped and my husband ordered the fried I thought with the flipped I was going to at least get a whole chicken breast but I got diced up little pieces of chicken which just fell apart when you ate it. The only way this sandwich would be acceptable is if it cost two dollars at Jack-in-the-Box they are selling Jack-in-the-Box quality stuff for $10 that should cost two dollars. I was excited when Proposition Chicken came to Oakland! I was pleasantly surprised by the kind employees who always smile when taking your order. They are pretty quick in preparing the food but it's probably better to order in advance or hop over to trader Joe's while you wait. The fried chicken is delicious. My friend wanted to try this place so we went. It reminded me of what would happen if KFC and a gastropub had a baby. It had the feel of a fast food restaurant with overpriced "gourmet" food items. It's a chicken place so that's what we each got. I got the Buffalo Wings and a side of the Brown Sugar Brussel Sprouts. The wings were flavorful but SO tiny I thought they came from baby chicks. I'm glad I'm a fan of Brussel Sprouts and don't, normally, find them bitter because the only ones with the brown sugar flavor were directly on top of the pile. My friend got the chicken strips and hand-cut fries and while she ate everything, again because the portion size wasn't large, I don't think it was anything to write home about. I saw folks from all backgrounds walk through the door, which is a good sign that the food isn't just hype. The prices are decent, the space is both beautiful and clean, the neon lights are subtly reminiscent of an era where food and entertainment were more culturally intertwined. The music is good, and above all, it seems that the folks who work here are genuine. Not overly friendly or off-putting and pretentious, not too engaged that makes it seemed force, just real. Now let me tell you what I ate. I waited in line, which moved quicker than expected (shout outs again to the folks who work here) and ordered a salad with bbq tofu and the potato wedges. May seem boring, but this was a wise pick on my end. A day with potato wedges is a day you made one good decision. Lowkey, an older white woman tried to move my stuff from her desired seat (my seat!) while I was waiting, but I gave her a "no" nod which resolved that very quickly. Better than most other chicken spots in Oakland because there seems to be a low probability of other patrons willing to fight you over petty things like seats, or fries, or the Warriors crushing defeat after a 3-1 lead last year. Fuck, the salad was amazing and very large! Definitely filling! Not all iceberg lettuce, which is already 2 stars in my book (hello, Ethiopian restaurants, I'm talking about you). The tofu was crispy but not overdone, with the perfect amount of bbq sauce to meld nicely into the dressing if you're into that sauce mixing life like I am. The chicken was so over fried, it was like jerky on the edges. The meat was dry and had almost no flavor. The batter was mediocre. The bun was small and soggy. The only thing that we really liked, was the chicken; It had a really excellent flavor. The barbecue tofu, barely had enough barbecue sauce. It's as if they have a never tried any other barbecue tofu recipes. The potato wedges tasted undercooked; we ordered two servings, but found it difficult to finish them. IF we order from here again, we will be sure to stick with the chicken and try the fries next time. Also, the biscuit was really good, but I am thankful that I waited until the end of the meal to eat it, because it is more like sweet corn bread or dessert.
